To reach the Ancient Vault – Hunter in Enshrouded, finish The Ancient Spires, then accept the Flame quest Hunter Becomes The Hunted. Follow its Find The Hunter marker to the Springlands, east of the Springlands Spire. Inside the sealed Ancient building, work through guards, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing routes and switch puzzles. Find the sleeping survivor, interact with the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel to rescue Athalan Skree, return to your base and use a Summoning Staff. Athalan then becomes a base survivor who supports hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged-oriented equipment.
What you need before traveling
The Hunter vault is not available as an independent early-game destination. Its quest chain has a fixed prerequisite, so traveling to the building before meeting that requirement does not replace the intended unlock sequence.

The Summoning Staff is needed for the final recruitment step, not for entering the building. The route itself is an exploration section with environmental hazards and internal mechanisms.
Complete The Ancient Spires first
Start by checking the Flame’s quest list rather than heading directly to a vault. The Hunter Becomes The Hunted objective requires completion of The Ancient Spires. Once that prerequisite is complete, the objective changes to Find The Hunter and identifies Ancient Vault – Hunter as the destination.

How to verify the prerequisite
- Open the quest or Flame objective screen.
- Confirm that The Ancient Spires is marked complete.
- Activate Hunter Becomes The Hunted, or select its Find The Hunter objective if it is already in your log.
- Open the world map and check that the destination is labeled Ancient Vault – Hunter.
If the vault is visible but the Hunter objective is not active, finish the prerequisite and select the quest before navigating. The quest marker is the reliable destination reference supplied by the game; an unlabeled landmark or a remembered route can lead you to a different Ancient structure.
Find Ancient Vault – Hunter in the Springlands
The vault is in the Springlands, east of the Springlands Spire. The available directions identify the region and relative position rather than a precise coordinate, so use the active quest marker as your primary navigation aid.
Map route
- Open the map with Hunter Becomes The Hunted selected.
- Locate the marker labeled Ancient Vault – Hunter.
- Use the Springlands Spire as your orientation point, then travel east toward the marked destination.
- When the marker and the Ancient structure come into view, confirm that the destination name matches the quest before entering.
The phrase “east of the Springlands Spire” is a regional guide, not a substitute for the marker. If your map view is zoomed out, the marker can appear close to other objectives; zoom in and verify the full destination label.
What the entrance looks like
Ancient Vaults are sealed Ancient buildings. The Hunter location is therefore an enclosed structure rather than an ordinary camp or a free-standing survivor NPC. Once you reach the building, the task becomes an interior traversal challenge: the objective is completed by reaching the survivor and using the Cinder Vessel, not by merely discovering the exterior.
Prepare for the vault’s hazards
The Hunter vault combines combat, movement and mechanism checks. Expect guards, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing routes and switch puzzles. These elements can appear in sequence, so prepare for more than a single fight at the entrance.
Combat readiness
- Equip the weapons and armor you normally rely on for guarded interiors.
- Keep a healing option available before starting a climbing or lava section; falling or taking trap damage can leave you unable to handle the next guard.
- Clear a safe area before studying a mechanism. A guard left behind can interrupt your attempt to inspect a switch or line up a jump.
Movement readiness
- Watch for electric hazards before crossing a narrow route.
- Treat lava gaps as deliberate movement puzzles rather than ordinary floor breaks; look for the intended jumping and climbing path.
- At climbing sections, scan above and across the room for the next route before committing to a drop.
These are preparation practices, not additional quest requirements. The requirement for access is the completed prerequisite quest; the Summoning Staff is required later for recruitment.

Work through the Ancient Vault – Hunter
Enter the building and advance room by room. The vault’s hazards are part of the route to the sleeping survivor, so do not leave after opening an early chest or reaching an intermediate platform.
1. Deal with guarded rooms
Ancient Vault interiors can contain guards. Use the room layout to separate combat from traversal: handle enemies where you have stable footing, then return your attention to the route. A cleared room also gives you time to identify climbable surfaces and switch locations without being forced into a jump.
2. Cross electric traps
Electric traps are one of the hazards in this vault. Pause at the edge of a trapped section and identify the safe path before moving. If a route includes a switch, treat the switch as part of the mechanism you are solving, not as evidence that the entire floor is safe. No universal timing pattern or particular deactivation sequence is established, so avoid relying on a memorized order from another vault.
3. Make the lava jumps
Lava sections require controlled jumps between the available surfaces. Line up each jump from stable ground, look for the next landing point and avoid improvising a longer leap when a climbing route is available. The important navigation principle is to follow the constructed path through the vault; the objective marker does not move to a separate outdoor entrance after you enter.

Climbing sections connect otherwise separated levels. Check walls, ledges and trellis-like surfaces for the next handhold, and look back toward the room if you reach a dead end. Some optional loot routes branch from elevated or outer walkways, so finish the required route to the survivor before spending time searching every ledge.
5. Use switches as progression checks
Switches open internal doors and change which rooms are reachable. When you encounter a mechanism, note the door or barrier it affects, then continue only after confirming that the path ahead has changed. The Hunter vault specifically includes a three-switch door on the ground floor; a gold chest is behind it.

How to solve the three-switch door
The three-switch door is on the ground floor and leads to a gold chest. The number of switches and the reward are known, but no verified activation order has been established. Any guide that presents a fixed sequence as universal is going beyond the established route.
A reliable way to approach it
- Reach the ground-floor door and identify all three switches associated with it.
- Look at the door before activating anything so you can recognize a change in its lock, panels or opening state.
- Activate one switch, then return your view to the door and check what changed.
- Test the remaining switches individually while tracking their positions. If the door opens, enter and collect the gold chest.
- If the door remains closed, inspect the room and nearby level for a switch you may have overlooked, then continue experimenting with the three visible controls rather than assuming an unverified order.
There is no confirmed sequence, and no specific reset behavior is established. For that reason, the safest instruction is to observe the door’s response to each switch and use the room’s actual state as your guide. Do not confuse this optional chest door with the main route to Athalan; the survivor can be rescued without claiming every chest.

Optional chest routes inside the Hunter vault
Several loot branches are present. They are useful for completionists, but none replaces the Cinder Vessel interaction required to rescue the Hunter.

Grapple route from the Hunter’s chamber
After reaching the Hunter’s chamber, look for the grapple point rather than assuming the room is the end of the vault. It leads upward to a room with a silver chest on top of the temple. This branch is a loot opportunity; the required rescue interaction remains at the sleeping survivor’s Cinder Vessel.
Hidden outer door and trellis
On an outer stone walkway, dropping down to the grass reveals a concealed door beside a climbing trellis. The hallway beyond contains another silver chest. Because this route involves leaving the walkway, check your landing before committing to the drop and use the trellis to identify the hidden entrance.
Wooden chest by the temple
A wooden chest is outside the temple, up a ladder. Search the exterior around the temple if you want every chest, but do not mistake this chest for the survivor objective.

Rescue the Hunter and unlock Athalan Skree
Continue through the required route until you reach the sleeping survivor. The rescue interaction is the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel. Interact with that vessel to rescue Athalan Skree.
The rescue interaction
- Find the sleeping survivor at the end of the vault’s progression route.
- Approach the Hunter’s Cinder Vessel.
- Interact with the vessel and wait for the rescue objective to register.
- Leave the vault after the game confirms the rescue; chest collection is optional.
Reaching the chamber without using the vessel does not complete the rescue. The vessel interaction is the point at which Athalan is freed.
Summon her at your base
- Return to your base after the rescue.
- Use a Summoning Staff.
- Summon Athalan Skree at the base.
- Confirm that she is present as a base survivor before attempting to use her crafting support.
The Summoning Staff requirement applies after the vault rescue. If you have rescued Athalan but cannot complete the recruitment step, check that you are attempting the summon at your base and that you have the required staff.
What Athalan Skree unlocks
Athalan Skree is the Hunter survivor. Her role covers hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged-oriented equipment. Once rescued and summoned, she provides the Hunter-focused survivor and crafting support associated with those specialties.

The vault therefore has two separate rewards: immediate exploration loot and a persistent base survivor. Opening a chest does not unlock Athalan; completing the Cinder Vessel rescue and the Summoning Staff step does.

The Hunter quest is not available
Check The Ancient Spires first. Hunter Becomes The Hunted requires that quest to be complete, and its destination is presented through the Find The Hunter objective. If the prerequisite is unfinished, the vault trip is premature.

The map points somewhere unexpected
Select the Hunter quest and verify the full destination label. The correct location is Ancient Vault – Hunter in the Springlands, east of the Springlands Spire. Use the active marker instead of a generic Ancient-building icon or a route remembered from another vault.

The entrance seems blocked
Ancient Vaults are sealed buildings with internal progression. Once inside, look for the route through guards, traps, climbing sections and switches. No separate external key or universal entrance code has been identified, so do not substitute the ground-floor three-switch puzzle for the initial navigation step.
The three-switch door will not open
The door is on the ground floor and protects a gold chest, but the switch order is not established. Recheck that all three switches are associated with the same door, observe the door after each activation and search the immediate room for a missed control. Treat the chest as optional while you continue toward the survivor.
The survivor is not recruited after the rescue
Rescuing Athalan at the Cinder Vessel and summoning her are separate actions. Return to the base and use a Summoning Staff. The Hunter becomes available as a base survivor only after that summon step.
You cannot find the optional chests
Use the route descriptions rather than searching only along the main floor: the gold chest is behind the ground-floor three-switch door; one silver chest is reached by grappling from the Hunter’s chamber; another is behind the hidden outer door beside the trellis after dropping to the grass; and the wooden chest is outside the temple up a ladder.

- Prerequisite: The Ancient Spires is complete.
- Quest: Hunter Becomes The Hunted is active with Find The Hunter selected.
- Navigation: The map marker identifies Ancient Vault – Hunter east of the Springlands Spire.
- Traversal: Guards, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing routes and switches have been cleared.
- Optional loot: The three-switch gold chest, grapple silver chest, hidden-door silver chest and ladder chest have been checked if desired.
- Rescue: The sleeping survivor’s Cinder Vessel has been activated.
- Recruitment: You returned to base and used a Summoning Staff to summon Athalan Skree.
- Result: Athalan appears as the Hunter survivor and supports hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged-oriented equipment.
How this vault fits the Ancient Vault system
Ancient Vaults are sealed Ancient buildings that generally contain one craftsperson. Their interiors can combine guarded rooms, traps and movement challenges. The Hunter vault follows that pattern while adding a survivor-specific objective: the final reward is not simply a chest, but Athalan Skree’s recruitment as a base craftsperson.
When comparing this vault with another survivor vault, use the same practical questions: which region contains it, what quest unlocks it, how the approach is reached, which traversal hazards appear, what switch or movement puzzles block progress, which survivor is rescued and which crafting stations or specialties become available. For the Hunter vault, the established answers are Springlands east of the Springlands Spire; The Ancient Spires followed by Hunter Becomes The Hunted; guards, electric traps, lava jumps, climbing and switches; Athalan Skree; and Hunter-focused support for hunting, tanning, weaving, arrows and ranged equipment. Other vaults require their own verified route and reward details.
