For the level-45 story gate into the Abyss, the guides cited here report a requirement of character level 45 and item level 1000. That is separate from Draupnir Expedition/Conquest: current guides for the global route report an entry threshold of 700, so you may be able to use Draupnir as a gear source before reaching 1000. Check the entry window in your game, since requirements can differ by mode or version.
Why you cannot enter the Abyss Base
The level-45 story route described in the guides requires both character level 45 and item level 1000. Item level measures your equipped gear progression; being level 45 by itself does not satisfy the gear gate. The figures below come from third-party guides, not official game documentation, so treat the live in-game entry window as authoritative.
Do not confuse that story requirement with Draupnir’s entry requirement. AllThings.How and Daeva Guides report a 700 item-level gate for Draupnir Expedition/Conquest on the routes they describe. This makes Draupnir a possible earlier gear source, rather than a dungeon that universally requires 1000.

Build item level toward 1000
1. Equip your best gear and identify weak slots
Check your item level in the character interface, then compare the pieces you have equipped. AllThings.How uses 20 gear slots at item level 45 to illustrate a base score of 900. That is simplified arithmetic from the guide, not a promise that every character’s displayed score will equal 900; use your in-game total to track progress.

2. Complete Regional quests that improve your gear
Prioritize Regional quest rewards that replace weaker equipment. AllThings.How specifically points to Liberator gear based on item-level-43 pieces. These quests also provide Daevanion Crystals and Theostones, so they can advance more than one part of your character’s progression.
3. Use Draupnir if your entry window allows it
If the current entry window shows you meet the requirement, Draupnir Expedition/Conquest offers another route to equipment before the story gate. The guides report a 700 threshold for the global route; confirm the requirement shown for your mode and region. AllThings.How also describes a later one-time pity chest that can award a Bakarma Breastplate with a level-54 base. That is a guide-reported reward, not a guaranteed drop on every run.

4. Improve your equipment and distribute upgrades
AllThings.How describes enhancement as adding item level one-for-one and advises spreading upgrades across gear rather than overinvesting in a single piece. It also describes socketing armor and weapons with Manastones, and jewelry with Soulstones. Choose upgrades that address your weakest slots and use materials according to your needs and the current game version.

AllThings.How advises saving Theostones for the Spiritforged weapon and Guard from the Episode quest chain. 6. Spend Daevanion Crystals on nodes that raise item level
According to AllThings.How, white Daevanion Board nodes add 1 item level each and orange corner nodes add 3. Blue skill nodes and green passive nodes add gear score but do not increase item level. The guide names Sealed Dungeons and unfinished Regional quests as sources of additional crystals.
7. Add the remaining progression activities
Daeva Guides’ global-version route also recommends completing the main story, clearing map-marked Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds, spending Daevanion Crystals, and improving the belt and amulet through enhancement and Substance Morph. These are additional avenues to check as you build your score; the guides do not establish a single fastest route for every character.

Choose activities by what your character still needs
The guides provide no comparable time-per-score measurements, so there is no evidence-based universal “fastest” activity. Prioritize based on access, likely slot improvement, and any limited attempts or resources involved.

Draupnir may remain locked until you meet the threshold shown in your entry window.
- At or above the displayed Draupnir threshold, but below 1000: Consider Draupnir for gear if its rewards could improve a weak slot, alongside quests, Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and Daevanion progression.
- Close to 1000: Check which available equipment or node upgrades will move your displayed item level, rather than spending materials on blue skill or green passive Daevanion nodes solely to cross an item-level gate.
Where Forgotten Commander ends
Forgotten Commander is described as a level-45 Asmodian Episode quest. The walkthrough’s chain runs through Menrik, Kiara, and Ivar in Altgard/Draupnir. After meeting the item-level requirement and entering Chaotic Lower Reshanta, the final turn-in is to Koro at the Asmodian Abyss Base. If you are looking for Koro in Altgard, you are looking in the wrong place.

The walkthrough lists the quest rewards as 54,000 bound Kina, a Spiritforged Guard, a bound Resurrection Spiritstone, five bound Lesser Manastones, and five bound Lesser Soulstones. Forgotten Commander should not be presented as an Elyos quest: the cited walkthrough covers the Asmodian chain. AllThings.How mentions a corresponding Elyos Draupnir story route, but the detailed turn-in information here is for Asmodians.
