You can play together online in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, but it does not offer split-screen or a shared co-op campaign. Its multiplayer is competitive racing: invite friends to race in an online party, while the story campaign is a solo experience.
What “co-op” means in Star Wars: Galactic Racer
If by co-op you mean progressing through the campaign together, that is not a documented feature. Official descriptions present the campaign as single-player and multiplayer as PvP racing. You can race with friends online, including in online podracer-focused events, but the game does not turn its story into a cooperative campaign. The official game site describes the available modes.

Can you play split-screen on one console?
No. The developer FAQ says split-screen multiplayer is unsupported, so two people sharing a console should not expect to race each other on the same screen. To race together, each player needs to join online multiplayer from their own supported platform and game setup. Secret Mode’s FAQ is the source for this feature and the online party rules.

How many friends can join a race?
Keep the party limit separate from the total race capacity: the FAQ currently lists a maximum party of three players, while the race can include additional opponents. Its displayed launch-era information says standard speeder races hold up to 12 racers and podracer races up to eight. Empty slots can be filled by AI racers. These are race totals, not the number of friends you can bring in your party. Check the FAQ for current party and race limits; the party limit is subject to change.

The FAQ also says the team planned to raise the party limit to six within the first few weeks after launch. That was a stated target, not confirmation that the increase has shipped, so do not assume six is available unless the current FAQ or in-game interface confirms it.
Does Galactic Racer support cross-play?
Yes. The developer FAQ says PC-console cross-play is enabled by default and can be disabled. Steam and Xbox listings also identify cross-platform multiplayer support. That means players on PC and consoles can race together when cross-play is enabled; check the current game or platform settings if you have switched it off. How online matchmaking works with a group
The FAQ describes matchmaking behavior, but does not document a precise sequence of buttons for inviting someone. Use the game’s multiplayer or social interface and your platform’s friend system rather than relying on an unverified menu path.
- When a suitable race is underway: matchmaking may place your group into it. In Multiplayer Tour or Podracer Tour, late arrivals can spectate and join the next race.
- When no suitable race is open: a new Tour or Quick Race requires another unique player searching, in addition to your searching group. A party of two may therefore wait for a third player who is not in that party.
- When the next race begins: the game supplies resources intended to help late joiners avoid falling behind.
- When matching players: matchmaking prioritizes your region, then may look across regions if needed. AI racers fill unoccupied race slots.
These rules can explain why a group might wait or enter a race as spectators instead of starting immediately. The developer FAQ details matchmaking and race filling.

Choose live races or an asynchronous challenge
For direct competition, use online multiplayer races. The official game site also describes Arcade mode as a way to jump into podracing. A launch review reported that Multiplayer Tour ran through five races and a season decider, with bots filling gaps, and that friends could try to beat Arcade time challenges. Those are reviewer observations, not a guarantee that every playlist or challenge works the same way. Creative Bloq’s launch review describes what its reviewer encountered.

Requirements depend on platform and may change. Xbox currently says console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. For PlayStation, check the game’s current PlayStation Store page for the applicable online-play requirement rather than assuming it matches Xbox. Xbox’s game listing.
