If you receive a message saying your Revolut-related information was exposed, do three things first: verify the notice through Revolut’s in-app chat, inspect your account for activity you do not recognize, and change your app passcode if anyone else may have seen or used it. Freeze a card only when its details may be compromised, and report any unauthorized transaction immediately.
An exposure notice is not automatically proof that Revolut itself was breached, that somebody signed in to your account, or that your card number was revealed. The safe response depends on what information may have been exposed and whether there is evidence of account or device access.
What a data-breach notice does—and does not—tell you
“Your details were leaked” can describe several different situations. A company that handled your name, email address, phone number or other personal information may have suffered an incident. That does not, by itself, demonstrate that Revolut’s systems were breached or that an attacker obtained your login, passcode, card number or funds.

Use the evidence to choose the response

1. Verify the notice without using its contact details
Do not authenticate a breach message by clicking its link or calling the number printed in it. Open the Revolut app yourself, or type the official Revolut address into your browser rather than following the message. Start a conversation with support through the in-app chat and ask whether the notice is genuine, which data category is involved, and whether your account is affected.
- Stop interacting with the unexpected message. Do not reply, open attachments, install software or enter details into a linked page.
- Open Revolut independently. Use the app already installed on your phone or a browser address you entered yourself.
- Contact support in the app. Describe when you received the notice, the sender’s address or number, and any transaction or security warning you saw. Do not forward secrets such as your passcode or verification code.
- Ask for the scope. Request confirmation of whether the notice concerns Revolut, a third-party service, or a particular account record. Ask which information may have been exposed and what protective action Revolut recommends in your market.
Revolut’s US suspicious-contact guidance says it will never ask customers to make a payment or share verification or security codes over the phone, and that a call should be booked and confirmed in advance. A message that pressures you to act immediately, move money, disclose a code or “verify” through an unsolicited link is inconsistent with that guidance.
2. Check for account access before changing anything else
Once you have verified the notice through a trusted channel, inspect the account for evidence of use. Look for transfers, card payments, cash withdrawals, new beneficiaries, profile changes or other activity you did not initiate. Review the dates and amounts, not just the merchant name: an unfamiliar small transaction can be as important as a large one.
Change the app passcode when access is possible
If someone may have seen your Revolut app passcode, or you suspect another person used an unlocked phone, change it promptly in the app’s security or passcode settings. Make the new code different from the old one and from codes you have disclosed to anyone. If you cannot sign in, do not disclose the old code to a caller; use the official recovery or lost-device route and in-app support when access is restored.
Record what you find
Save the transaction date, amount, merchant or beneficiary, notification time and any case number shown by support. Keep screenshots only in a secure place that other people cannot access. This record helps support identify the event and lets you follow the same case in chat without repeatedly explaining the timeline.
Check for quiet account changes
Not every compromise begins with a large payment. Review newly added beneficiaries, changed personal details, unfamiliar linked devices, unexpected card-state changes and alerts about sign-ins or verification attempts. A change you do not recognize is worth reporting even if your balance is unchanged. Do not approve a login, device pairing or payment simply to make an alert disappear; cancel it and ask support to investigate.
3. Should you freeze your Revolut card?
Freeze a card when its details may have been exposed or when you see a suspicious card attempt. A general personal-data notice does not mean every card must be frozen. Freezing is a reversible containment step while you establish what happened.

Freeze and unfreeze from the card controls
- Open Revolut in the app or web app.
- Open the card controls and select the affected card.
- Choose Freeze and confirm.
- Check with in-app support whether the card should remain frozen, be replaced or receive another restriction.
Revolut’s card guidance states that attempted card payments fail while the card is frozen. The same controls provide the option to unfreeze it when you are satisfied that the card is safe. A freeze does not investigate an already completed transfer or payment, so report those separately.
When replacement is a support decision
Do not order a replacement solely because an unrelated notice mentions your personal information. Tell support what was exposed, whether the card number or security details were included, and whether any payment attempt is unfamiliar. Revolut can then advise whether continued freezing, replacement or another measure is appropriate for your account and country.
4. Report an unauthorized payment or transfer
If you find activity you did not authorize, report it as soon as possible from the transaction itself. Revolut’s fraud guidance directs customers to the suspicious transaction’s Get help or fraud-reporting path, with in-app chat available for follow-up.
- Open the unfamiliar payment or transfer in your transaction list.
- Tap Get help, or choose the available fraud or unauthorized-transaction option.
- Answer the questions accurately, including whether you still have the card and phone.
- Submit the report and note the case reference or chat thread.
- Follow requests from the fraud team through the in-app conversation. Revolut says it may request additional information, which can include a police report number.
Do not send a verification code to somebody who claims to be investigating the payment. If a person contacts you outside the app, end the conversation and continue through the support chat you opened yourself.

State whether the transaction is a card payment, transfer or cash withdrawal; whether you still possess the physical card; whether your phone was available to anyone else; and when you first noticed the item. Explain any related call, text or email, but do not paste passwords, PINs or one-time codes into the case. If support requests documents or a police reference, submit them only through the authenticated channel it identifies.
5. Secure a lost, stolen or potentially unsafe phone
A compromised phone can expose an active session even when no breach affected Revolut directly. Use the lost-device flow if the phone is missing, stolen, shared with someone you do not trust, or infected with software that could capture activity.
When you can still reach the account
Revolut’s lost-device guidance describes a flow in the app or web app that can sign out linked devices, freeze cards temporarily and change the app passcode. Complete those actions from a device you trust, then contact support through the app to explain what happened.

When you cannot sign in
Use Revolut’s lost-device report and identity-verification process. Do not create a second account to work around the problem or give your passcode to someone offering “recovery” by phone. The purpose of identity verification is to let Revolut confirm ownership without handing control to an unverified contact.
Separate device risk from breach risk
If the phone was lost but there is no sign that the breach notice involved Revolut, the lost-device workflow is still the relevant control. Conversely, if the phone is safe and only personal information was exposed, locking every card may create unnecessary disruption. Match the control to the actual risk.
6. Expect impersonation attempts after personal information is exposed
Follow-on scams often rely on facts that sound private: your name, phone number, recent merchant, approximate balance or a reference to the notice you received. None of those details authenticates the caller. Verify unexpected contact inside Revolut and do not continue a conversation just because the person knows something about you.
- Never disclose your app passcode, card PIN, password or one-time verification code to a caller, text sender or email contact.
- Do not approve a login, payment or device pairing that you did not initiate.
- Do not open an unsolicited “secure your account” link. Navigate to Revolut independently and use in-app support.
- End the contact if the person demands urgency, secrecy, a payment or a transfer to a “safe” account.
- Report the suspicious call, email, link or text through Revolut’s in-app support route.
Revolut’s India fraud-prevention guidance specifically warns against clicking unexpected impersonation links and sharing PINs, passwords or passcodes. Its US guidance likewise directs customers to verify suspicious contact in the app rather than trusting the contact details supplied by the sender.
7. Avoid common response mistakes
- Do not panic-freeze every card. Freeze the card whose details may be at risk; ask support before replacing cards unrelated to the exposure.
- Do not rely on the sender’s “verification” number. A convincing email address, logo or caller ID can be copied. Start the support conversation yourself.
- Do not keep using an exposed passcode. Change it promptly if another person may know it, and never reuse a code shared with a suspected scammer.
- Do not wait for a second transaction. One unrecognized item is enough to open the transaction-help or fraud route.
- Do not treat a freeze as a fraud report. Freezing blocks attempted card payments while active, but completed payments and transfers still need separate investigation.
- Do not publish case details publicly. Keep references, screenshots and identity documents in a private, secure location.
What to do in each common scenario
Only your personal data may be exposed
Verify the notice in-app, ask what fields were involved, and monitor account activity. Stay alert for convincing calls or messages, but do not infer that your card or account was accessed without evidence.

Stop contact with the suspected person, change the app passcode immediately and use in-app support to review the account. Check linked-device activity and recent transactions before responding to any further message.
Your card details may be included

You see an unauthorized transaction
Use that transaction’s Get help or fraud-reporting path, submit the details and keep the case in in-app chat. Be prepared to provide additional information, potentially including a police report number.
Your phone is lost, stolen or unsafe
Run the lost-device flow from the app or web app to sign out linked devices, freeze cards temporarily and change the passcode. If you cannot access the account, use the lost-device report and identity verification.
How to monitor the account after the first response
Keep checking card activity and transfers during the period covered by the notice and while support investigates. Review new notifications as they arrive, and compare each item with receipts, subscriptions and transfers you actually initiated. Preserve support case numbers and dates so a later alert can be connected to the original report.
If support confirms that the exposure involved a third party rather than Revolut, follow the third party’s notification for its own password or identity-protection steps, but continue to treat any Revolut-related contact as untrusted until verified in-app. If support confirms that account credentials or card data were involved, follow its market-specific instructions even if you have already frozen a card or changed the passcode.
Important differences between Revolut markets
Official help pages reviewed for this guidance come from Revolut’s US, Belgium, Brazil and India sites. They describe the same core protections but use different support routes and labels. The app or web app available to you may therefore show different menu names, identity checks or escalation options.
Use the controls visible in your own account, and ask in-app support to confirm any step that is missing. Do not rely on a screenshot, phone number or menu path copied from another country’s help page. The security principles remain consistent: verify independently, protect the passcode, contain a card only when its details may be at risk, report unauthorized activity promptly and use the lost-device process when the phone itself is unsafe.
