There is no definitive English pronunciation list for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the Nintendo sources cited here. English-language fan discussions include competing spellings and pronunciations. For example, a community thread offers “high-rool” for Hyrule and “ko-keery” for Kokiri. Such respellings can help readers picture a sound, but they are neither standardized nor endorsed by Nintendo.

Another approach is to approximate a name from its Japanese spelling. That can produce a different result from a familiar English fan reading, and the sources cited here do not establish which approach Nintendo intends English speakers to use. Choose the version that feels clear and consistent for your conversation or gameplay.
What do Nintendo’s sources actually establish?
Nintendo’s US Ocarina of Time instruction manual names Zelda, Hyrule, Goron, Zora, and Kokiri, and gives context for their roles, but its retrieved text does not include phonetic pronunciations. In an official Iwata Asks interview, developer Yoshiaki Koizumi explained, “Navi – from ‘navigation’.” In a separate interview, he said, “Epona is the goddess of horses and fertility in Celtic mythology, so I used that.” These statements explain name origins, not how to pronounce the names in English. A 2017 interview with producer Eiji Aonuma also mentions Goron, Zora, Sheik, and Epona without giving phonetic guidance.

Accordingly, none of the English readings in this guide should be presented as Nintendo-confirmed. A definitive official English pronunciation would require a direct Nintendo pronunciation source or audio that clearly establishes how the name is said.
