The most reliable way to handle an unsolicited iCloud Calendar invitation is to report the event as junk on iCloud.com/calendar. Apple says this deletes the event from every device signed in to the same Apple Account. You can also choose whether future iCloud invitations arrive as Calendar notifications or email, but that preference changes delivery rather than blocking invitations. If the unwanted entries come from a subscribed calendar, unsubscribe from that calendar on a Mac and use the option to report the subscription as junk.
Identify what is actually arriving
Apple uses different controls for three situations that look similar in the Calendar app. Choosing the wrong remedy can leave the source untouched, so classify the nuisance before changing settings.
A single event invitation
This is an invitation to one event, usually showing an organizer, event title, date and response choices. For an iCloud event that looks like spam, Apple provides a Report Junk action on iCloud.com. Reporting is different from declining or ignoring the invitation.

A shared-calendar invitation asks you to join another person’s calendar. Once you are a participant, update emails may arrive when events change. Apple documents separate controls for stopping calendar sharing, unsubscribing from a shared calendar on Mac and turning off shared-calendar update emails on iCloud.com.

Entries supplied by a subscribed calendar
A subscription adds a calendar feed whose events appear together. If every unwanted entry comes from the same feed, remove that subscription instead of reporting each event individually. Apple’s documented unsubscribe-and-report workflow is on Mac.
Which account sent it
The steps below are specifically for iCloud Calendar. An iPhone or iPad can display calendars from several providers, including Google or Exchange. Apple’s cited instructions do not establish one Apple-wide block for invitations from those services. If the invitation is not an iCloud event, use the controls supplied by the account provider rather than assuming the iCloud procedure will apply.
Change how iCloud invitations are delivered
iCloud Calendar lets you select one of two delivery methods for invitations: in-app notifications or email. This is useful when you want to keep invitations out of Calendar alerts, or when you prefer to process them in an inbox, but Apple does not describe either option as a spam-blocking switch.
On an iPhone or iPad
These instructions apply to devices running iOS 17 or later and iPadOS 17 or later.
- Open Settings.
- Tap [your name] at the top of Settings.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap Show All if the complete list of iCloud apps is not visible.
- Tap iCloud Calendar.
- Tap Send & Receive.
- Under Receiving, choose Notifications or Email.
Apple says this preference applies to devices signed in to that Apple Account with iCloud Calendar enabled, including a Mac. Selecting Notifications keeps invitations in the Calendar notification flow. Selecting Email sends them to the email addresses configured for iCloud Calendar, where your mail service may provide its own filtering and reporting tools. Neither choice prevents someone from sending an invitation.
On iCloud.com
Use a tablet or computer for this workflow; Apple’s iCloud.com instructions do not describe it as an iPhone-browser procedure.
- Sign in to iCloud.com/calendar.
- Open the Actions menu.
- Choose Settings, then Account.
- For each email address used with iCloud Calendar, select either in-app notifications or email.
Review every listed address. A change made for one address does not necessarily represent the preference for another address shown in the account settings.
What this setting can and cannot do
- It can: determine whether iCloud invitations are delivered through Calendar notifications or email.
- It cannot be treated as: a documented block list for unsolicited senders.
- It does not remove: an event that is already present in your calendar. Handle an existing junk event with Report Junk.
Report a junk iCloud event invitation
For an individual iCloud invitation that you believe is junk or spam, use Apple’s reporting workflow rather than merely declining it.
- On a tablet or computer, sign in to iCloud.com/calendar.
- Open the unwanted event.
- Choose Report Junk.
Apple states that the event is automatically deleted from your calendar on all devices where you are signed in to the same Apple Account. This is the specific event-level action Apple documents for an unwanted iCloud invitation.

Why declining is not the same action
Calendar’s reply controls let you respond to an invitation. Apple’s instructions distinguish replying from the Report Junk workflow, so do not tell readers that declining an event reports the sender or trains the service. If the event is unwanted and appears in iCloud Calendar, open it on iCloud.com and use Report Junk.
If the event remains on another device
- Confirm that the device is signed in to the same Apple Account.
- Confirm that iCloud Calendar is enabled on that device.
- Allow synchronization to complete, then check the calendar again.
Apple’s deletion statement covers devices signed in to the same Apple Account with the relevant iCloud calendar; it does not promise removal from a different account or from a separate provider’s calendar.
Remove a calendar subscription that is generating unwanted entries
If the nuisance consists of a stream of events from one subscribed calendar, remove the subscription. Reporting one event will not remove the underlying feed.
Unsubscribe on a Mac
- Open the Calendar app on your Mac.
- In the calendar list, locate the unwanted subscribed calendar.
- Control-click the calendar name.
- Choose Unsubscribe.
- When offered, choose the option to report the subscription as junk.
Apple says that reporting a junk subscription helps Calendar better identify junk subscriptions. The report concerns the subscription itself, which is why this route is appropriate for a feed rather than a single event invitation.
Do not confuse a subscription with an invitation
An invitation normally concerns one event or a request to join a shared calendar. A subscription is a calendar source that can add many events over time. If removing the subscription makes the entries disappear, you have addressed the source. If the entries continue, look for a separate invitation or another account supplying a calendar.
Limits of the documented route
Apple’s cited materials document this unsubscribe-and-report flow on Mac. They do not establish an equivalent iPhone or iPad subscription-junk path. If you only have an iPhone or iPad, use a Mac for the documented reporting step or remove the subscription using the controls available for the specific provider, without assuming that an iOS menu has the same option.
Handle shared-calendar invitations and update emails
A shared calendar has participants and sharing permissions, so its controls differ from those for an ordinary event invitation.
If you were invited to join a shared calendar
Decide whether you want to remain a participant. Apple’s personal-safety guidance explains how to unsubscribe from a shared calendar on Mac. Removing your participation addresses the shared calendar itself rather than each event displayed from it.
If you own or manage the shared calendar
Apple documents participant-management controls on iPhone and iPad. Review the people listed for the shared calendar and remove access that should no longer exist. The exact action depends on whether you are the calendar owner or a participant, so use the sharing controls associated with that role.

Stop update emails
If the problem is email whenever a shared calendar changes, Apple says you can stop those update messages by changing a Calendar setting on iCloud.com. This affects update-email delivery; it is separate from reporting an individual event as junk and from removing a participant.

Joining a shared calendar can expose its events to you, while sharing your own calendar can expose your events to other participants. Treat those as separate decisions. Unsubscribing from someone else’s calendar does not by itself change the sharing permissions on a calendar you own.
Use the right remedy for the symptom
| What you see | Most appropriate documented action | Where to perform it |
|---|---|---|
| One iCloud event that looks like spam | Open the event and choose Report Junk | iCloud.com/calendar on a tablet or computer |
| New iCloud invitations are too disruptive | Choose Notifications or Email under the receiving preference | iPhone or iPad with iOS 17/iPadOS 17 or later, or iCloud.com on a tablet or computer |
| Many events arrive from one subscribed calendar | Control-click the calendar, choose Unsubscribe, and report it as junk when offered | Calendar on Mac |
| Messages announce changes to a shared calendar | Change the shared-calendar update-email setting | iCloud.com |
| Invitation belongs to Google, Exchange or another provider | Identify that provider and use its invitation or calendar controls | The provider’s own account interface |
The table separates delivery preferences from removal and reporting. Changing where an invitation arrives does not perform the same operation as deleting a junk event, and deleting an event does not unsubscribe you from a calendar feed.
A quick decision path before you act
- Count the pattern. One isolated event points to an individual invitation. A repeating stream of similarly themed entries points more strongly to a subscription or shared calendar.
- Check the calendar source. Determine whether the item is in iCloud Calendar or another account. An iPhone can show several accounts in one Calendar app, so the app alone does not prove that iCloud sent the invitation.
- Choose the matching interface. Use iPhone or iPad Settings for the iCloud receiving preference, iCloud.com on a tablet or computer for Report Junk and shared-calendar email settings, and a Mac for the documented subscription report.
- Remove the source, not just a symptom. Report an individual junk event, unsubscribe from a junk feed, or leave/manage a shared calendar. Changing notification delivery only changes where future invitations appear.
- Check other devices afterward. Cross-device deletion applies to devices using the same Apple Account with iCloud Calendar enabled. It does not reach a different Apple Account or a separate provider account.
This sequence prevents a common mistake: treating every unwanted calendar item as if it were the same kind of invitation. The delivery channel, calendar source and device available determine which Apple control is relevant.
What happens after you report or unsubscribe
Report Junk is an event-level action. Apple says the event is automatically deleted from calendars on devices signed in to the same Apple Account. It is not described as a permanent block on the organizer, and it does not remove unrelated events from another calendar account.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Unsubscribe is a calendar-level action. It removes the feed that supplies its events, and Apple provides an option to report that subscription as junk on Mac. If a second feed, shared calendar or provider account is also adding entries, those items can remain until their own source is addressed.
Changing Notifications to Email, or the reverse, is a delivery-level action. It changes how iCloud invitations reach you and applies to devices signed in to the Apple Account with iCloud Calendar enabled. It does not delete an event already on a calendar and does not stop a non-iCloud provider from sending its own invitations.
Troubleshoot when invitations keep appearing
You changed to email but still see Calendar alerts
First verify that you changed the iCloud Calendar receiving preference for the correct Apple Account and email address. The setting applies to devices signed in to that account with iCloud Calendar enabled. If the alert is generated by a non-iCloud account, the iCloud preference cannot be expected to control it.
You reported an event but similar events continue
Report Junk handles the event you opened. Repeated entries may come from a subscribed calendar, a shared calendar, or another account. Classify the new entries again rather than repeatedly reporting isolated events from a continuing feed.

You cannot find Report Junk
Apple’s documented path places the action on iCloud.com/calendar and specifies a tablet or computer. If you are looking only in the iPhone or iPad Calendar app, move to the iCloud.com workflow. Also verify that the event is an iCloud event rather than one supplied by another provider.
Unsubscribing did not solve the problem
Check whether the entries are actually generated by a different subscription or by invitations sent directly to another calendar account. Removing one feed does not remove unrelated sources. Shared-calendar updates also require their own setting or participation change.
You use more than one Apple device
Use the same Apple Account when reporting the event, then check the other devices after synchronization. Apple’s cross-device deletion statement is tied to devices signed in to that same account and using iCloud Calendar.
You changed one email address but still receive another copy
On iCloud.com, the receiving choice can be selected for each email address used with iCloud Calendar. Review every address listed under the account settings. A preference changed for one address does not automatically prove that every other address has the same selection.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYou only have an iPhone
The iPhone and iPad settings provide the iCloud delivery choice, but Apple’s documented event-reporting path uses iCloud.com on a tablet or computer. The subscription report is documented for Calendar on Mac. If you cannot access those interfaces, identify the source account and use the provider’s available controls rather than assuming the mobile app exposes every action.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Apple’s controls do not establish
Apple’s instructions provide a practical workflow for iCloud Calendar, but they do not promise a universal “block all unsolicited invitations” switch. They also do not establish one cross-provider control covering Google, Exchange and other calendar services. Avoid treating the iCloud receiving preference as a sender block, and avoid applying iCloud.com steps to an invitation that belongs to another provider without checking that provider’s documentation.
No prevalence or effectiveness percentage is established for unsolicited Apple Calendar invitations in Apple’s cited guidance. The useful, documented outcomes are operational: selecting a delivery channel, reporting a junk iCloud event, removing a junk subscription on Mac and managing shared-calendar participation or update emails.
A practical prevention checklist
- Classify the item as an individual event, shared-calendar invitation/update or subscribed-calendar entry.
- Identify whether the supplying account is iCloud or another provider.
- For a junk iCloud event, use Report Junk on iCloud.com/calendar from a tablet or computer.
- For a recurring feed, unsubscribe from the calendar on Mac and report the subscription as junk when the option appears.
- For shared-calendar activity, unsubscribe, adjust participants or turn off update emails according to the situation.
- Use Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Show All > iCloud Calendar > Send & Receive to choose notifications or email for iCloud invitations.
- Do not assume that declining an event reports it as junk.
- For Google, Exchange or another provider, follow that provider’s controls instead of applying an iCloud-specific expectation.
Bottom line for iPhone and iPad users
If you want fewer interruptions, change the iCloud invitation delivery preference. If you want an unwanted iCloud event removed and reported, use Report Junk on iCloud.com. If a calendar feed is responsible, unsubscribe and report the subscription on Mac. Shared calendars require sharing or update-email controls, and invitations from non-iCloud accounts require provider-specific handling.

How do I report a spam calendar invite on an iPhone?
For an iCloud event, sign in to iCloud.com/calendar on a tablet or computer, open the event and choose Report Junk. Apple says the event is deleted from devices using the same Apple Account with iCloud Calendar enabled.
Does declining an invitation report it as spam?
No. Apple distinguishes replying to an invitation from the Report Junk workflow. Use Report Junk for an unwanted iCloud event instead of relying on Decline.
What if spam events keep coming after I report one?
The repeated entries may come from a subscribed calendar, shared calendar or another account. Classify the source again. Unsubscribe from a junk feed on Mac, leave or manage a shared calendar, or use the other provider’s controls.

The Bottom Line
Match the fix to the source: report a junk iCloud event on iCloud.com, change invitation delivery under iCloud Calendar settings, unsubscribe from a junk feed on Mac, and manage shared-calendar updates separately. Google, Exchange and other providers require their own controls.
