Before installing an OriginOS update, back up important data, connect to stable Wi-Fi, and check for the update through your phone’s Settings > System update screen. Confirm that the release is offered for your specific phone and region. Use manual firmware instructions only if Vivo provides them for your exact model.
Before you start: protect your data and connection
Back up important data
Save important files and other data to a separate, accessible storage location before updating. Vivo recommends backing up before a system upgrade. Its OriginOS 6 Preview announcement also advised a comprehensive, effective backup even though that particular preview was not expected to erase data. That assurance applies to the preview described in the announcement, not every OriginOS update.
Vivo’s general update guidance does not specify a particular backup device or service. If you plan to use external storage, check that your phone supports the connection and storage device; extra storage is not an update requirement.
Connect to stable Wi-Fi
Use stable Wi-Fi for the update. Vivo recommends Wi-Fi because system updates can consume substantial data, and its OriginOS 6 Preview instructions specifically call for a stable connection. The cited guidance does not state a universal download size or installation duration.

Check whether your phone has an update
- Connect to Wi-Fi, or enable mobile data if Wi-Fi is unavailable.
- Open Settings and tap System update.
- Let the phone check for an available release. If it offers an update, follow the on-screen instructions for that device.
The precise menu wording may vary by model or software version. Availability is not the same for every Vivo phone: rollout can depend on the device and region. Check the update screen and local Vivo support information rather than assuming a release date or eligibility based on another phone.
Choose the correct installation route
| Route | When it applies | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary system update (OTA) | Your phone offers an update in its system-update screen. | Use Settings > System update and follow the phone’s instructions. Wi-Fi is recommended to limit mobile-data use. |
| Manual firmware installation | Vivo provides a firmware package and instructions for your exact model and situation. | Follow the applicable Vivo instructions for that package; do not treat manual installation as a required step for an ordinary OTA update. |
Vivo’s firmware tutorial describes a separate manual process: download the package that matches the phone, leave it compressed, place it in the root of phone storage or on an SD card, then use the specified local-upgrade route. Do not use a package for a different model or follow these steps unless Vivo’s instructions apply to your device.

- EXPAND YOUR STORAGE. Easily move files off your device, freeing up valuable space so you can store your favorite photos, movies, music, games, and more.
- Say goodbye to emailing photos between devices. Once they’re on your SanDisk Phone Drive, read speeds up to 100MB/s let you transfer files fast. (1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors. USB Type-C port with USB 3.2 Gen 1 support required.)
- AUTOMATIC BACKUP. Automatically back up your latest photos, videos, music, documents, and contacts with the SanDisk Memory Zone app. (Download and installation required. Set up automatic backup within app settings. See official SanDisk website for Memory Zone details.)
- DATA RECOVERY. Recover deleted files with the included RescuePRO Deluxe software.(Registration and download required; terms and conditions apply. See RescuePRO page on SanDisk site.)
- CONVENIENT DESIGN. Attach your drive to your keyring to help keep it secure so you can have storage wherever you are, whenever you need it.
Battery guidance depends on the installation method
Vivo’s manual firmware-installation tutorial recommends battery capacity above 30%. That figure belongs to the tutorial’s package-installation process; the cited OriginOS preview instructions do not state a battery threshold, and the available guidance does not establish a universal minimum for every OTA update. Follow any battery instructions shown on your phone or in the official instructions for your specific update.

Follow any post-update directions shown for your release. In the X200 Pro OriginOS preview announcement, Vivo told participants to update apps through Google Play after upgrading. That was guidance for that preview program, not a universal requirement for all OriginOS releases.
