Before deploying for an ARC Raiders quest, read its exact objective, decide what you truly need to bring, and plan how you will extract. Treat custom-loadout gear and carried quest items as at risk if you are eliminated; use a Safe Pocket for an item you need to protect when the current game rules allow it. A Free Loadout can limit the value exposed on some runs, but it has less inventory space and, according to Epic’s guide, no Safe Pocket.

Start with the objective, not your usual loadout

Quest requirements vary. Some ask you to visit a place, interact with an object, collect something during a raid and extract with it, or defeat an ARC machine. The wording determines whether you need to bring an item, search for one, or prepare for a fight. Check the active in-game quest description before you deploy rather than assuming an older quest list reflects the current objective.

For a dated overview of missions, Rory Norris’s PC Gamer quest list was updated May 1, 2026. Use it as a reference, not as a substitute for the live objective shown in your game.

  • Visit: Identify the destination and whether the task requires anything beyond reaching it.
  • Interact: Check whether the object can be used as-is or requires a carried item.
  • Find and extract: Work out where the required item might be found and whether the quest only counts if you leave with it.
  • Defeat: Bring only the equipment you consider necessary for the expected combat, or decide whether you can avoid the fight.

Choose what you are willing to risk

Epic’s ARC Raiders survival guide says custom-loadout equipment is lost on elimination, except for items placed in Safe Pocket slots. In practical terms, assume gear and materials you carry into a raid are exposed unless the game’s current rules specifically protect them.

Use a custom loadout when the objective calls for it

If the quest depends on combat capability or a specific carried item, bring what the objective needs rather than loading up for every possible encounter. Before confirming, consider whether you would accept losing each piece of equipment if the run ends before extraction.

Consider Free Loadout for lower-stakes runs

Epic describes Free Loadout as lower-tier equipment with fewer inventory slots and no Safe Pocket, making it a possible choice for quick resource-gathering runs when you do not want to expose higher-tier gear. It is not a universal solution: less space can constrain what you carry, and the option’s availability can depend on the active map condition.

Embark Studios’ Live Update 1.33.0, published June 16, 2026, temporarily disabled Free Loadout for Night Raid and Close Scrutiny for a three-week test. Embark said the change was intended to raise the entry barrier so players would commit to appropriate risk and reward in those better-loot scenarios. That was a time-limited change, not confirmation of the rules in October 2026; check the current map-condition screen before relying on Free Loadout.

Protect the item that matters most

When a quest requires you to carry something valuable, check whether it can go in a Safe Pocket and whether the current game rules protect that item there. Epic’s guide identifies Safe Pocket contents as the exception to losing custom-loadout equipment on elimination. Do not assume protection applies to other slots or item types unless the game explicitly says so.

For example, PC Gamer’s February 23, 2026 Eyes on the Prize walkthrough describes an objective in Buried City that requires three wires to interact with a broken solar panel. The walkthrough says the wires can be scavenged during the match or brought in. Bringing them saves the search, but exposes them to the risk of a failed extraction. Choose based on whether saving time is worth carrying the materials through the raid.

Plan the extraction before taking detours

Extraction is where a raid’s carried loot is secured. Embark’s event rules, for example, state that relic merits are claimed only by successfully extracting with a relic in hand. The same basic planning principle applies to a quest run: a completed interaction or found item does not help if the objective requires you to leave with it and you do not make it out.

Before heading toward the objective, note the extraction options and weigh how each fits the run. Epic’s guide says regular extraction controls can sound an alarm and attract human and ARC enemies. Raider Hatches are described as quieter, hassle-free escapes, but require a key. No route is guaranteed safe; choose one whose requirements and likely exposure make sense for what you are carrying.

Spend time and make noise only when it is worthwhile

Opening containers takes several seconds and makes noise, according to Epic’s guide. That creates a trade-off: extra searches may turn up useful supplies or quest materials, but they also cost time and draw attention. On a focused quest run, search when the likely benefit justifies the delay and added exposure, rather than looting every container by habit.

A quick pre-deployment check

  1. Read the live quest text. Identify the destination, interaction, required item, extraction condition, or combat task.
  2. Decide what must come with you. If a required item can be found topside, compare the search risk with the risk of bringing it in.
  3. Set an acceptable loss. Choose a custom or Free Loadout based on the task, the gear you are willing to expose, and Free Loadout’s current availability and limitations.
  4. Use protection deliberately. Put a priority item in a Safe Pocket only if the active rules confirm that it is eligible and protected there.
  5. Choose an extraction plan. Account for route convenience, any Raider Hatch key, alarms, and potential enemy attention before you take optional detours.
  6. Keep the objective in view. Avoid unnecessary searches and fights when they add risk without helping complete or extract the quest objective.
