Frozen Trail update 2.0 went live on October 8, 2026. The practical preparation is to build a flexible loadout around Pendola Pass’s documented hazards: flash freezes, aggressive ARC, hostile Raiders and a close-quarters Frigate challenge. Bring ammunition for a deliberate ranged weapon or a heavy revolver, carry movement or control gadgets that fit your route, and use the Outpost and Research Workstation to develop amplified weapons as you progress.
There is no officially established “best” build, exact cold countermeasure or tested weapon ranking. Embark’s preview and update notes describe item roles and systems, but they do not publish freeze damage, timing, map rotations or comparative performance tests. Treat the setups below as practical starting points rather than mandatory recipes.
What Frozen Trail adds to your preparation
Frozen Trail changes the decisions you make before entering a match because Pendola Pass combines a new environment with several different kinds of pressure. The map is an old Italian village that once served as an Exodus transport hub beyond the Rust Belt. Embark specifically warns that brutal flash freezes cut through the valley. The official material does not state how much damage a freeze causes, how long one lasts or which item cancels it, so preparation should emphasize flexibility and awareness rather than a supposed single-purpose cold solution.
The update also introduces the Frigate, a demanding interior challenge. You must navigate passageways, unlock routes and deal with ARC and other Raiders at close range. That is a different engagement pattern from a long sightline across the village, so carrying only a distance-focused option can leave you uncomfortable when a route funnels you indoors.
#1 Best Overall
- ARC Raiders Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the following content: The Wanderer Set, including the following cosmetic items: “Valente” Outfit" “Pathfinder” Backpack,“Blanket Roll” Backpack Attachment.
- Plus: Character Cosmetic, Finger Gun Rapid Fire Emote, Cowboy Scrappy Body Type and Skin, 2 400 Raider Tokens.
Several named threats shape the encounter mix:
- Bully: Embark describes this ARC as aggressive and fast-moving. The official advice is to use cover, time your response and land your shots.
- Skulker: It stalks players and attacks when they are distracted, making attention management important during looting, traversal and fights with other enemies.
- Hydra: The live update post identifies it as a squad threat protecting the Emperor and the Frigate.
- Other Raiders: The Frigate preview emphasizes competing Raiders in confined spaces, where movement choices and target selection matter as much as weapon reach.
The update adds 22 quests, giving you additional progression objectives, but the number of quests is not a reason to fill every stash slot with speculative equipment. Prepare for the next drop you can actually describe: a village traversal, a Frigate attempt, a quest objective or a return trip to develop your gear.
As the ARC Raiders Team put it in the October 8 update notes, “The cold has arrived, and it’s brought a lot with it.” That is a useful preparation principle: account for more than the weather effect alone.
Start with an inventory plan, not a copied “meta” build
Use the stash as a planning tool
The maximum stash size is 328 slots without Expedition bonuses, according to Embark’s 2026 update notes. That is an inventory limit, not a recommendation to reserve a particular number of slots for ammunition, gadgets or weapons. It does mean that preparation should be deliberate. Keep enough options for the objectives you intend to run, while avoiding a pile of duplicate items that you are not ready to deploy.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Separate the ammunition you use for your selected primary and secondary weapons before queueing.
- Keep at least one route option in mind: a movement gadget for reaching or escaping positions, or a control gadget for creating space.
- Leave room for quest items and recovered loot instead of filling the stash with every possible alternative.
- Recheck the inventory after each run; a successful extraction can change what the next objective requires.
Nothing in the official sources establishes a universal quantity of rounds, healing items or spare gadgets. Those amounts depend on your route, squad and willingness to fight, so avoid treating an invented number as an update requirement.
Choose a job for each slot
Before you deploy, describe what each carried item is meant to do. A weapon can provide deliberate ranged pressure, close-range stopping power or a backup option. A gadget can move you, connect positions, root a target or pull a target. This simple role check prevents a loadout in which every slot does the same thing and leaves no answer when the map changes from open village streets to Frigate passageways.
A five-minute pre-drop checklist
- Set the objective. Decide whether the run is primarily for a quest, Pendola Pass exploration, a Frigate attempt or extraction with recovered materials.
- Select an ammunition family. The Stiletto uses light ammunition; the Bantam uses heavy ammunition. Confirm that your stash supports the weapon you are carrying rather than assuming the ammo will appear when needed.
- Add one movement or control answer. The Grapple Hook, Tether Launcher and Yank Grenade have different functions. Select the one that matches your route and intended engagements.
- Review skill choices. The revamped tree contains branches that can lock in choices after investment. Know which branch decision you are approaching before spending points casually.
- Check progression work. If you are pursuing amplified weapons, make sure your Outpost project and Research Workstation objectives are clear before the drop.
Weapons: Stiletto or Bantam?
Frozen Trail’s two documented weapons offer a clear role comparison, but the official notes do not provide damage tests, time-to-kill measurements or a ranking. Choose according to the engagement you expect rather than calling one universally superior.
| Weapon | Ammunition | Documented role | Preparation implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stiletto | Light ammunition | Light-ammo battle rifle; positioned as an early-game alternative to the Renegade and intended for steady, deliberate shots at range. | Carry light ammunition and plan to make controlled ranged shots. It is a sensible starting point when your route offers sightlines, but it does not remove the need for a close-quarters answer inside the Frigate. |
| Bantam | Heavy ammunition | Heavy-ammo snub-nosed revolver; Embark says it is effective against ARC and Raiders and has a hip-fire capability. | Carry heavy ammunition and expect a weapon that can be used when an encounter becomes immediate. The official description does not establish a damage ranking or guarantee that hip fire is best in every situation. |
When the Stiletto makes sense
Embark presents the Stiletto as an early-game alternative to the Renegade and recommends steady, deliberate shots at range. That wording points to a measured approach: identify a target, use available cover and avoid turning every encounter into uncontrolled ammunition expenditure. On a village route with room to observe, its light-ammo role can fit a player who prefers deliberate engagements.
Rank #2
Do not convert that role description into a claim that the Stiletto is the strongest rifle in the update. The sources do not report comparative recoil, damage, accuracy or performance against each named threat. If a route is likely to force you into interior passageways, pair the Stiletto with a plan for disengagement or a secondary tool rather than assuming range will always be available.
When the Bantam makes sense
The Bantam is a snub-nosed revolver using heavy ammunition. Embark explicitly describes it as effective against ARC and Raiders and notes a hip-fire capability. Those details make it a natural candidate for players expecting sudden contact or wanting a sidearm that can be brought into an encounter without committing to a long sight picture.
That does not prove that the Bantam outperforms the Stiletto, nor does it establish a universal hip-fire distance. It simply gives you a documented role to build around. Check that your heavy-ammo supply supports the number of fights you are willing to take, especially if the Frigate is your destination.
How to decide without a ranking
- Choose the Stiletto when your immediate plan emphasizes observation and deliberate ranged shots.
- Choose the Bantam when you want the documented revolver role against ARC and Raiders and value a hip-fire option.
- If the route includes both open village movement and a Frigate push, decide which phase is most dangerous for your squad and use the other slots to cover the remaining phase.
- After a run, change one variable at a time. Swapping weapon and gadget together makes it difficult to identify what actually improved your survival or extraction.
Gadgets: movement, tethers and control
Embark’s launch announcement advises players to stock up on Tethers and the Grapple Hook. That is developer guidance, not proof that either item is required for every Pendola Pass run. The items solve different problems, so understand their functions before spending stash space.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →| Gadget | Documented function | Preparation question |
|---|---|---|
| Grapple Hook | Traversal: reaching high spots, rappelling and crossing gaps. | Does your planned route benefit from vertical access or gap crossing? If yes, reserve one for movement rather than treating it as a combat damage item. |
| Tether Launcher | Control tool that connects points and can root targets. | Are you preparing to limit movement or hold a position? Its value is control, not a published damage number. |
| Yank Grenade | Control tool that can pull targets. | Would pulling a target change the spacing of an encounter? Use it for that control purpose instead of assuming it is interchangeable with a Grapple Hook. |
| Snap Hook | Burst mobility; distinct from the newly added Grapple Hook. | Can you afford its updated power and durability costs for the route? The shorter range and higher consumption make resource planning relevant. |
Grapple Hook preparation
The Grapple Hook is the update’s clearly documented traversal gadget. It can reach high spots, support rappelling and cross gaps. Those uses matter in a village built around vertical structures and in an area where a direct route may be blocked. It is still a movement tool: the official materials do not establish a damage effect, a guaranteed escape from every threat or a requirement to carry one.
Use it when the route you intend to run has a known vertical or gap-crossing objective. If your plan is a short interior Frigate attempt, compare the value of movement with the value of a control tool before consuming a slot.
Tethers and the Yank Grenade
The Tether Launcher and Yank Grenade belong to the control side of preparation. The update description associates tether items with connecting points, rooting targets and pulling targets. These functions can help shape an encounter, but the source does not specify exact durations, ranges or guaranteed effects against every ARC type. Plan around the function you need—restricting movement or changing distance—without assuming a particular target will always respond identically.
Rank #3
Snap Hook after the balance changes
The 2.0 notes change the Snap Hook in several measurable ways:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Range decreases from 20 m to 18 m.
- Durability consumption increases from 2% to 4% per use.
- Power cost increases from 50 to 60.
Embark frames the Snap Hook as burst mobility and distinguishes it from the new Grapple Hook. Therefore, do not plan a route around the old 20 m reach or old resource costs. If you rely on repeated movement bursts, reserve enough power and durability for the revised values. The notes do not say that the Snap Hook is better or worse overall than the Grapple Hook; they describe two different mobility tools.
Preparing for Pendola Pass’s threat mix
Flash freezes: prepare for uncertainty
Flash freezes are the defining environmental warning in the official Pendola Pass preview. No official figure in the supplied materials states their damage, duration, frequency or a specific item that negates them. Consequently, do not label a weapon, shield or consumable as a confirmed cold countermeasure.
A sensible preparation response is procedural: avoid committing every resource before you understand the current condition, keep a route to cover in mind and be ready to change direction. These are general risk-management steps, not claims about an undocumented freeze mechanic. Patch notes and in-game observations may later clarify the effect, but the launch material alone does not.
Handling the Bully
Embark’s advice for the Bully is explicit: use cover, time your response and land your shots. Before deploying, identify which carried weapon you can use while maintaining that discipline. The Stiletto’s deliberate ranged role may fit a player who can preserve distance; the Bantam’s revolver role may fit a player expecting a faster, closer response. Neither choice is validated as a universal counter.
Staying alert for the Skulker
The Skulker stalks and attacks when players are distracted. That description makes situational awareness part of loadout preparation. Avoid planning a route that requires you to focus on looting, a quest interaction and a second threat without a disengagement option. A Grapple Hook can provide movement where a gap or high spot is available; a control gadget can change spacing when a target is approaching. The source does not promise that either item automatically defeats a Skulker.
Hydra, the Emperor and the Frigate
The live update post describes Hydra as a squad threat protecting the Emperor and the Frigate. Treat that as a warning that the objective may involve more than one enemy at once. The Frigate itself requires internal navigation, path unlocking and close-quarters fights with ARC and other Raiders. Carry a weapon and gadget combination that you can operate in confined spaces, and do not assume that a long-range plan will remain comfortable after you cross the threshold.

Unlock the Outpost and use the Research Workstation
Amplified weapons are tied to the Outpost and its Research Workstation. The documented progression is straightforward: complete the Outpost project to unlock the Outpost, then use the station to access weapon research and customization systems. The official notes do not publish a complete research tree, exact material costs or a single optimal amplification path.
Progression steps
- Identify the Outpost project. Confirm which project objective is active before you spend resources elsewhere.
- Complete the project. The Outpost is unlocked by completing its project, not merely by entering Pendola Pass.
- Open the Research Workstation. Once available, use the station for the weapon research and customization systems described in the update.
- Match research to your role. If you are using the Stiletto, investigate options that support the deliberate ranged role you actually play. If you are using the Bantam, prioritize research decisions that fit your revolver-centered plan. The notes do not state which choices are numerically best.
- Revisit after new quests. With 22 new quests in the update, your objectives may change. Reassess your next research action instead of treating the first choice as permanent proof of a best build.
Amplified weapon progression is a system to work toward, not a reason to postpone every drop until the Outpost is complete. Use the equipment roles already available while progressing, then apply the Workstation when the relevant access is unlocked.
Plan around the revamped Skill Tree
Frozen Trail revises the Skill Tree to make choice and expression more central. The official notes describe two specific decision structures:
- The middle branch presents a binary choice.
- At the end of a branch, after meeting the required point investment, you can select up to two of three skills.
Because the source does not list a universally correct skill combination for Pendola Pass, prepare by deciding what your current loadout needs. A player who relies on deliberate ranged shots may value a different branch path from one who expects close-quarters Frigate fights or repeated traversal. Spend points with the next objective in mind and read the branch requirements before committing.
The stated design goal is to replace or modify under-performing skills while making choice a more core feature of the tree. That means your build should express a playstyle rather than imitate an unsupported ranking. If your squad changes roles, review the tree and adjust future investments instead of assuming the same choices fit every mission.

The update notes include two changes that affect preparation but do not establish a best shield or mobility build.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Item or system | Previous value | Frozen Trail 2.0 value | What it means for planning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy Shield movement penalty | 15% | 10% | Movement is penalized less than before, but the notes do not rank the Heavy Shield against other defenses. |
| Heavy Shield durability decay | 0.20 | 0.15 | The decay value is lower in the update notes; do not turn that change into a claim that the shield is mandatory. |
| Snap Hook range | 20 m | 18 m | Plan for the shorter reach. |
| Snap Hook durability consumption | 2% per use | 4% per use | Repeated use consumes durability faster than before. |
| Snap Hook power cost | 50 | 60 | Reserve more power for the same burst-mobility pattern. |
These are balance-note facts, not a verdict on which item to equip. The Heavy Shield’s lower movement penalty may change how it feels, while the Snap Hook’s higher costs may change how often you can use it. Test your own route and resource tolerance rather than inferring a complete build from one changed number.

Three practical starting loadout patterns
The following patterns assemble documented roles into coherent starting points. They are not official templates, tested rankings or guarantees against any named enemy.
Deliberate village advance
- Primary role: Stiletto with light ammunition.
- Movement option: Grapple Hook if the route includes high spots, rappelling or gaps.
- Control option: Tether Launcher or Yank Grenade if restricting or pulling a target is more important than additional movement.
- Use case: A route where you can observe targets and take steady, deliberate shots before entering a confined area.
This pattern follows the Stiletto’s documented role without claiming that range solves every problem. Before attempting the Frigate, decide whether your secondary equipment can compensate for the loss of open sightlines.
Close-quarters Frigate attempt
- Primary role: Bantam with heavy ammunition.
- Control option: Tether Launcher or Yank Grenade to influence spacing.
- Mobility option: Grapple Hook or Snap Hook, selected according to whether you need the Grapple Hook’s documented traversal functions or the Snap Hook’s burst mobility.
- Use case: Passageways, path unlocking and fights with ARC and Raiders at close range.
This setup responds to the Frigate’s documented environment, but it does not prove that the Bantam is the best close-range weapon. Keep the updated Snap Hook costs visible in your resource plan if you choose it.

- Weapon: Choose either the Stiletto or Bantam based on the objective’s expected engagement distance.
- Gadget: Carry the opposite capability from your weapon plan: movement if your weapon is most comfortable at range, or control if you expect to fight while space is limited.
- Progression focus: Bring whatever quest materials or objective requirements advance the Outpost project or your 22 new quests.
- Use case: A first reconnaissance run when you do not yet know whether the route will remain outside or enter the Frigate.
The value of this pattern is adaptability, not maximum damage. It gives each slot a different job while leaving room to learn the route.
A run-by-run preparation workflow
Before the first Pendola Pass drop
- Read the current official notes and confirm that you are playing Frozen Trail update 2.0, live from October 8, 2026.
- Choose a weapon role and stage the matching light or heavy ammunition.
- Select one gadget for the route’s main problem: vertical traversal, gap crossing, rooting, connecting points or pulling targets.
- Check whether your next progression step is the Outpost project, Research Workstation access, a quest or a skill-point decision.
- Leave stash capacity for what you intend to extract; the 328-slot maximum without Expedition bonuses is a limit, not a target.
During reconnaissance
- Observe whether flash freezes are affecting your route, without assuming an undocumented duration or damage value.
- Identify cover and escape directions before engaging an aggressive Bully.
- Stay attentive while looting or interacting so a Skulker cannot exploit the distraction described by Embark.
- When approaching the Frigate, reassess your spacing and gadget choice because passageways and competing Raiders change the engagement problem.
- Use traversal gadgets for traversal and control gadgets for control; do not spend a Grapple Hook merely because it is available.
After extraction or failure
- Record which ammunition type you actually used and adjust the next staging decision.
- Note whether the route required vertical movement, a gap crossing, target restraint or a pull.
- Review Snap Hook durability and power consumption against the updated 4% and 60 values if you carried it.
- Apply skill points only after considering the next objective and the binary or end-branch choices ahead.
- Use the Outpost and Research Workstation when unlocked, selecting research that supports the role you are continuing to play rather than chasing an unverified ranking.
What the official material does not establish
Several details players may search for are not supplied in the launch preview or 2.0 notes covered here:
- No exact flash-freeze damage, duration, rotation schedule or confirmed counter-item is published in these materials.
- No laboratory comparison ranks the Stiletto against the Bantam or any other weapon.
- No tested PvE or PvP loadout is identified as universally best.
- No complete amplification path, research cost list or optimal Skill Tree allocation is provided.
- No map-condition timetable for Pendola Pass is stated.
Game balance and schedules can change. For those details, check the latest official patch notes and in-game information before relying on an older preparation plan. Until numerical testing or further documentation exists, the safest claims are the role-based ones: Stiletto for deliberate light-ammo ranged shots, Bantam as a heavy-ammo revolver effective against ARC and Raiders, Grapple Hook for traversal and tether tools for control.
Quick Recap
Final preparation checklist
- Confirm the update is Frozen Trail 2.0, live October 8, 2026.
- Expect Pendola Pass to combine an old Italian village, Exodus infrastructure and flash freezes.
- Plan for the Frigate’s passageways, unlocked routes and close-quarters ARC and Raider encounters.
- Stage light ammunition for the Stiletto or heavy ammunition for the Bantam according to the role you intend to play.
- Carry a Grapple Hook when vertical traversal, rappelling or gaps justify it; treat Embark’s advice to stock up as guidance, not a universal requirement.
- Use Tether Launcher and Yank Grenade for their documented connection, rooting or pulling functions.
- Account for the Snap Hook’s 18 m range, 4% durability consumption and 60 power cost.
- Use cover and timed shots against the Bully, remain alert for the Skulker and expect Hydra to protect the Emperor and Frigate.
- Complete the Outpost project, then use the Research Workstation for weapon research and customization.
- Spend Skill Tree points with the binary middle choice and end-branch limit of up to two of three skills in mind.
- Keep your stash plan realistic within 328 slots without Expedition bonuses, leaving room for quest and extracted items.
