Before you queue in WoW: Forever, set one clear rank or gear goal, check the season journey for weekly tasks that support it, and note your current Rank Points in the Character Pane’s PvP tab. Plan Honor and Rank Points separately: Honor buys PvP gear, while Rank Points advance your rank and unlock rank rewards. The official progression guide does not establish a weekly Rank Point cap, reset time, or the most efficient activity, so build your routine around the tasks and play time you can actually confirm in game.
A useful weekly plan is not a promise to play a certain number of matches or hours. It is a short checklist: know which track matters most, choose tasks that fit the play you want to do, and check what changed when you finish. That approach keeps the grind focused without importing rules from another version of World of Warcraft.
Understand what your session is meant to progress
A PvP session can move two different tracks forward. Keeping them distinct makes it easier to decide what to do and whether your time met the goal you set. Before queueing, decide whether you are primarily trying to build an Honor balance for gear, move toward another rank, complete seasonal tasks, or make progress on more than one of those goals. The answer affects what you watch during the session and what you check afterward.
Honor is the gear currency
Blizzard describes Honor as a currency earned through PvP content. You can spend it on two sets of PvP gear: one blue-quality and one epic-quality. Honor does not substitute for Rank Points, and earning Rank Points does not mean you have the Honor needed to buy an item. Treat Honor as a balance to plan and spend, not as a measurement of rank progress.

If gear is your priority, identify the purchase you are working toward and keep your Honor spending connected to that goal. The relevant question is whether your current balance and later Honor earnings move you toward that purchase. The guide does not provide item costs, individual earning rates, or a recommended order for buying gear, so use the in-game information available to your character rather than assuming a particular item is affordable or optimal. Avoid treating a rise in rank as proof that you have enough currency, or treating a large Honor balance as proof that your rank has advanced.
Rank Points advance rank and unlock rewards
Rank Points are progression toward your next rank. Rank, in turn, determines access to staged rewards. Blizzard’s official progression guide describes 14 ranks, with rewards including a tabard at Rank 1, a PvP trinket at Rank 2, cloaks at Rank 3, a necklace at Rank 4, combat potions at Rank 5, a battle standard at Rank 7, and epic weapons at Rank 14. Higher milestones also include epic armor upgrade rewards and a mount.
The examples show that rewards are staged rather than all available at once. A player interested in a specific milestone should check the current in-game rank and reward list to see what is within reach and what comes later. The list is not a reason to chase every reward: a tabard, trinket, cloak, necklace, potion, standard, mount, armor upgrade, or weapon may matter differently depending on what you want for your character. The practical target is the next reward that is relevant to you, not an abstract attempt to progress as quickly as possible.

Set a realistic target before you queue
A weekly grind is easier to manage when you decide in advance what counts as a successful session. Avoid setting a target that depends on an unverified cap, reset schedule, or number of matches. Instead, choose a goal visible in the game and suited to the time you have. A useful target is specific enough to check afterward, but flexible enough not to depend on a rate or schedule the official guide does not give.
- Rank goal: Record your current rank and Rank Points, then focus on a rank milestone or on making progress toward the next rank. You can check the same values again after playing rather than relying on memory.
- Gear goal: Identify a PvP item or gear set you want to work toward and keep Honor spending connected to that purchase. Check the cost and your balance in game; the guide does not list item prices.
- Task goal: Select season-journey tasks that fit the activities you already plan to do, rather than changing your whole session for a task you do not want to pursue.
- Bounded session goal: If your play time is limited, decide which task or progression track matters most for that session. Do not assume every queue advances both tracks at the same rate.
- Combined goal: If you want to work on rank, Honor, and tasks together, first check whether the tasks match activities you are willing to play. Keep separate notes for each outcome so that progress on one does not obscure what happened on another.
There is no official numeric rate comparison in the progression guide for battlegrounds, quests, or player combat. It therefore cannot support a claim that one is always the fastest way to farm Honor or Rank Points. Your practical choice should reflect the task requirements, the time available, and the PvP activity you prefer. If no activity clearly matches a task or priority, choose based on what you are willing to play and verify your progress in game instead of relying on an assumed efficiency ranking.

Check the season journey and choose tasks
Weekly seasonal tasks award Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks each season also award a Legacy Point. Review the season journey before queueing so you know which tasks are available and whether their objectives match your plan. Tasks can help connect a weekly session to both progression tracks, but they do not remove the need to track Honor and Rank Points separately.

- Pick tasks that align with the battlegrounds, relevant PvP quests, or player-versus-player activities you intended to play anyway. A match between task and planned activity makes the task easier to include without rebuilding the whole session around it.
- Set a manageable task target for the session. If a task does not fit your available time or preferred activity, decide whether to leave it for later rather than treating it as mandatory.
- After playing, check the journey again to confirm what completed and what remains. This gives you a concrete next step for the next time you play.
Blizzard says seasonal tasks remain available to complete in future seasons because they are tied to the Legacy System. A missed task is not necessarily a permanently lost opportunity: consult the journey in a later season rather than assuming the task has disappeared. The guide does not specify how every task appears across seasons, so use the in-game journey to verify your own outstanding tasks. This flexibility can make it easier to plan around real availability: you do not have to turn every session into an attempt to clear every task immediately.
Three tasks each season award a Legacy Point in addition to the Honor and Rank Points awarded for completing seasonal tasks. If that Legacy Point is relevant to your goals, check which tasks qualify in the journey rather than assuming every task has the extra reward. The key number is three tasks per season, not three tasks every week. Completing tasks over time can therefore be part of a longer plan, while the PvP tab remains the place to check your current rank progress.
Use the PvP tab as your progress check
At the start of a session, open the Character Pane with the default C hotkey and select the PvP tab. Review your current rank, Rank Points, and the rewards available for purchase at your current rank. This is the clearest starting snapshot provided by the official guide, and it helps turn a vague plan into something you can inspect.
Make a quick note of the relevant starting point—either the rank progression you want to advance or the Honor item you are working toward. After playing, revisit the tab and check the result. This simple before-and-after check helps keep rank progress, reward eligibility, and currency spending from becoming a single vague “PvP progress” measure.

For a rank-focused session, record the current rank and Rank Points, then use those same indicators when you check back. For a gear-focused session, keep the Honor balance and target purchase in view as well. The PvP tab lists rank, Rank Points, and rank rewards currently available for purchase; do not assume the tab alone provides every item price or every detail needed for a purchase. Confirm the actual in-game information relevant to the gear you want.

This check also helps with planning the following week. If Rank Points moved but you are still working toward a reward, keep the rank target visible. If Honor increased but you have not reached the planned purchase, continue tracking that separate balance. If a task remains unfinished, look at its objective and whether it is still available before deciding whether to carry it forward.
Choose activities based on tasks and availability
Blizzard identifies defeating other players, completing battlegrounds, and finishing relevant PvP quests as ways to earn Honor. During highlighted battleground holiday weeks, those battlegrounds grant increased Honor. The official guide gives no numerical rates, time estimates, or queue-order recommendation, so treat the highlighted week as an opportunity—not proof that a particular battleground is the best activity for every player.

Compare those options by four practical factors: whether the activity matches a current task, whether it fits your available play time, whether you prefer doing it, and whether a highlighted battleground is active. These are planning considerations, not a published efficiency ranking. A task match may make one activity a natural choice for you, while another player may have a different available task or preference. Use the details in your own season journey and the current in-game indicators to make the choice.
If a highlighted battleground is active, it is reasonable to consider it as an Honor opportunity because Blizzard says it grants increased Honor. That does not establish how large the increase is, how it compares with other activities, or how much Honor a session will yield. Do not build a fixed time estimate around it. Likewise, the fact that player kills, battleground completion, and relevant PvP quests can earn Honor does not establish that all three pay at the same rate, apply to every encounter, or advance rank identically.
The best choice for your week depends on the task match, your available time, and the activity you are willing to play. Without published rates, there is no sound basis for promising a universal optimal rotation or a fixed number of hours to reach a milestone.
Follow a repeatable weekly routine
- Check your starting point. Open Character Pane (C) > PvP, then review rank, Rank Points, and currently available rank rewards. If a gear purchase is your focus, also note the Honor balance and the item you are working toward.
- Choose one primary outcome. Decide whether this session is mainly for rank progression, an Honor-funded gear goal, or season-journey task completion. You can pursue more than one, but naming a primary outcome makes it easier to judge whether the session met your aim.
- Review the season journey. Identify weekly tasks that fit the activity you expect to play, and note any task you may want to revisit later. Check which tasks carry the seasonal Legacy Point reward if that is part of your longer-term plan.
- Choose an activity using what you can verify. Match tasks to battlegrounds, relevant PvP quests, or player-versus-player activities you intended to do. Consider available play time and personal preference, and check whether a highlighted battleground holiday week is active.
- Play the activities that fit. Earn Honor through player kills, battleground completion, and relevant PvP quests as appropriate. If a highlighted battleground holiday week is active, factor in its increased Honor without assuming a specific rate.
- Check task completion. Reopen the season journey and confirm which objectives completed. Keep any unfinished task visible as a possible later target rather than assuming you must finish it in the same session.
- Check progress before spending. Revisit your PvP tab and keep Rank Points distinct from your Honor balance. Confirm reward eligibility and the in-game purchase information before deciding whether to spend Honor.
- Leave a useful note for next time. Record the task or progression target still in progress. If a weekly task was missed, check the journey again in a later season.
This routine works whether you have a short session or a longer one because it does not depend on an invented match count. The opening check defines a starting point; the journey check tells you what tasks are available; the activity choice reflects your actual options; and the closing check tells you what to carry forward. If a session ends before a target is complete, the result is still useful information for planning the next one.

Avoid importing rules from other WoW versions
WoW: Forever’s official progression description uses Honor and Rank Points. Do not plan this routine around Retail WoW’s Conquest or Arena caps, or around Classic’s historical honor ladder: those are not the system described by the Forever guide.
