For Best Buy’s U.S. Nintendo Switch 2 launch on June 5, 2025, stores were scheduled to open at 12:01 a.m. ET for preorder pickup and limited walk-in sales. That was a one-time event, not a standing midnight schedule. For a Best Buy preorder, check that your order is marked ready, then bring your government-issued photo ID and order number. Confirm your own store’s instructions before traveling.
Check your pickup order before leaving
Use the retailer’s order page and messages to confirm the selected store, the pickup person, and the order’s status. Best Buy says store-pickup customers should wait for a separate “Ready for pickup” email. Its published instructions ask the collector to bring government-issued photo ID and the order number. Someone else can collect a Best Buy order only if they were designated as the pickup person. These rules apply to Best Buy; follow the instructions attached to an order from another retailer.

- Confirm the order is assigned to the store you plan to visit.
- Wait for the pickup-ready notice rather than relying on a launch announcement alone.
- Bring the required ID and order number; if another person is collecting it, make sure they are listed as the pickup person.

Know the launch-night time and location rules
Best Buy announced that nearly all of its U.S. stores would open at 12:01 a.m. ET on June 5, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2 preorder pickup and walk-in purchases. The equivalent announced times were 11:01 p.m. CT, 10:01 p.m. MT, and 9:01 p.m. PT on June 4. Those times applied to that retailer’s 2025 launch event; they do not establish hours for other retailers, other locations, or future launches.

Best Buy described walk-in inventory as limited, so an announcement of a launch event was not a guarantee that a console would be available to buy without a preorder. Nintendo’s U.S. launch announcement listed the main hardware and setup items included with the console:
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Two Joy-Con 2 controllers, with grip and straps
- Dock
- Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable
- AC adapter and USB-C charging cable
The Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle announced for the U.S. launch included a game download code. Check your order confirmation to verify which edition you bought and what software it includes; your specific order details are the relevant reference.

Set up the console at home
You do not need to buy a replacement power adapter for ordinary first-time setup. Nintendo’s instructions use the supplied AC adapter and USB-C cable for charging, and the supplied adapter and Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable for docked TV setup.

- Plug the AC adapter into a wall outlet, then connect the USB-C end to the console.
- Attach both Joy-Con 2 controllers to the console.
- Follow the on-screen prompts, including language and region, time zone, and Nintendo Account setup. Nintendo says some settings can be configured later.
For TV mode, connect the supplied adapter and Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable as directed in Nintendo’s first-time setup instructions. An original Nintendo Switch AC adapter can connect directly to Switch 2, but its different power output does not support the Switch 2 dock in TV mode.

Nintendo of America announced the June 5, 2025 U.S. launch, the launch editions, U.S. suggested retail prices, and package contents in its April 2, 2025 launch announcement. Its stated suggested retail prices were $449.99 for Nintendo Switch 2 and $499.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle; these are historical U.S. launch prices, not a claim about current pricing. Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa described the system as “the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go based on eight years of play and discovery that began with Nintendo Switch,” a promotional statement in that announcement.
