Reverie in the Moonlight is scheduled to launch digitally on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on November 19, 2026. You can preorder it from Nintendo eShop on either console or from Nintendo.com while signed in to the Nintendo Account linked to your console. Choose the regular Nintendo Switch version, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or—if you already own the base game—the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack.
Nintendo will not process a preorder payment until no earlier than seven days before release. When payment is processed, the game can preload; it becomes playable on launch day after the release update is installed. Nintendo allows cancellation until payment is processed and preloading begins.

Which Reverie in the Moonlight edition should you preorder?
The correct purchase depends on the console you use, whether you already own the game, and whether enhanced Switch 2 performance matters to you. Nintendo’s currently published details are:
Recommended Free Tools
| Option | Console compatibility | Enhancements | Who should choose it | Published details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch version | Nintendo Switch; Nintendo’s Canada listing marks it Supported on Nintendo Switch 2 | Standard version; no Switch 2-specific enhancements listed | Someone buying the game for an original Switch, or a Switch 2 owner who wants the standard release | Digital download; single-system play; estimated size 550 MB; release date November 19, 2026 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Nintendo Switch 2 | Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support and an improved frame rate; Nintendo says game content does not differ from the Switch version | A Switch 2 owner who wants the enhanced controls and smoother performance | Digital download; release date November 19, 2026 |
| Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack | For the Nintendo Switch game on Nintendo Switch 2 | Converts the owned base game to the Switch 2 Edition | Someone who already owns the Nintendo Switch version and does not want to buy the game again | The base game is required; release date November 19, 2026; upgrade price not stated in the published information |
If you already own the Switch version, do not purchase the complete game again before checking whether the upgrade-pack listing is available for your account. Nintendo describes the pack as an upgrade to the existing game, so the base game remains a requirement.

What you need before starting a preorder
A Nintendo Account linked to the right console
For a console purchase, sign in to the Nintendo Account that you intend to use for playing the game. A web purchase is delivered to the console associated with that account, so using a different account can leave the title unavailable on the profile you expected to use.
A payment method or correctly matched eShop credit
Have an accepted Nintendo Account payment method ready before checkout. If you use a Nintendo eShop gift card, its currency and region must match the Nintendo Account’s eShop region. Check the card’s regional restrictions before redeeming it; credit intended for another country’s store may not be usable.
Enough console storage
Nintendo lists an estimated download size of 550 MB for the Switch version. Keep at least that much free space on the target console or microSD card, and leave additional room for the release update and any later patches. The final download can differ from an estimate shown before launch.

Stable internet access
Preordering, downloading the preload, and installing the release update all require an internet connection. If your connection is metered or unreliable, plan the download for a time when the console can remain connected and powered.
How to preorder in Nintendo eShop on Switch 2 or Switch
- Open Nintendo eShop. Start eShop from the HOME Menu on your Switch 2 or Switch and select the Nintendo Account that should own the purchase.
- Search for the title. Use the search field and enter Reverie in the Moonlight. Nintendo’s support guidance says selected unreleased Switch and Switch 2 games can be preordered in eShop; the preorder button appears only when the listing is enabled for your account and region.
- Inspect the edition label. Read the product title carefully before continuing. Select Reverie in the Moonlight for the regular Switch release, Reverie in the Moonlight – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition for the enhanced version, or the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack if your account already owns the base game.
- Verify compatibility and ownership. If you are using an original Switch, the standard version is the relevant purchase. If you are using Switch 2, decide whether you want the standard compatible release or the enhanced Edition. If the page offers an upgrade pack, confirm that the base game is listed as owned on the same Nintendo Account.
- Review checkout details. Confirm the edition, account, region, displayed price, and payment source. Nintendo’s currently published information does not establish a final price, so rely on the amount shown in your live eShop checkout rather than an older listing or third-party estimate.
- Accept the preorder terms and complete checkout. Follow the on-screen payment prompts. A successful checkout places the title in your account’s purchase history; it does not make the game playable before launch.
- Leave the console ready for the preload. Nintendo processes payment no earlier than seven days before release. Once processing occurs, the console can download the preorder automatically or allow you to start the preload, depending on its settings and available storage.
How to preorder from Nintendo.com
- Open Nintendo.com and sign in to the Nintendo Account you use on the target Switch console.
- Search for Reverie in the Moonlight and open the official product page.
- Select the exact edition: Nintendo Switch version, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or the Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for an account that owns the base game.
- Check the displayed console designation, account, region, price, and payment method, then complete checkout.
- Keep the target console linked to that Nintendo Account and connected to the internet. Nintendo says the web purchase is delivered to the linked console, where it can download when the preorder becomes eligible for preloading.
If the web page shows more than one product, do not assume the first result is the correct one. Switch and Switch 2 products can have similar names, while the upgrade pack is intended only for existing owners.
When Nintendo charges a preorder
Nintendo Support states that payment for an eShop preorder is processed “at earliest, 7 days before the game is released.” For this title, that means the charge is not expected before the seven-day window leading up to launch. The exact processing moment can depend on Nintendo’s account and store systems, so keep the payment method valid throughout that period.

Payment processing is the point at which Nintendo starts the preload process. Before that event, the preorder is a reservation in your account; after it, the game can download to the console. Make sure your payment method has sufficient funds and has not expired when the processing window arrives.

Can you cancel the preorder?
Yes. Nintendo’s FAQ says you can cancel an eShop preorder any time before payment is processed and the game is preloaded on your console. In practical terms, cancellation is available during the period before Nintendo begins the charge and preload, which may be as late as seven days before release.
Once payment has been processed and preloading has started, the normal preorder-cancellation window has ended. If you no longer want the game, review the purchase status in your Nintendo Account as soon as possible rather than waiting for launch day.
What happens on release day?
The download that arrives during preloading is not necessarily the final step. Nintendo says the game becomes playable on the release date after the release update is installed. Keep the console online and allow the update to finish before attempting to start the game.
If the title appears on your HOME Menu but will not open immediately at launch, check that the console has the latest update, that the Nintendo Account used for purchase is present, and that the system clock is set automatically. Do not delete the game merely because it is locked before the official release time; a preorder remains unavailable until Nintendo’s release authorization is applied.

Choose the Nintendo Switch version when
- You play primarily on an original Nintendo Switch.
- You want the version Nintendo lists as compatible with Switch 2 but do not need the Switch 2-specific control or performance improvements.
- You prefer to buy the base game now and decide about the upgrade pack later, subject to the upgrade pack’s availability and price.
Choose the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition when
- Your main console is Switch 2 and you want Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support.
- You value the improved frame rate Nintendo advertises for smoother gameplay and visuals.
- You are buying the game for the first time and want the enhanced edition without relying on a later upgrade purchase.
Choose the upgrade pack when
- Your Nintendo Account already owns the Switch version.
- You are moving to Switch 2 and want the enhanced Edition.
- You want to avoid purchasing the complete game again. The base game must remain associated with the account.
Nintendo says the two full editions contain the same game content. The meaningful distinction is the hardware-specific presentation and control support, not a different story, level set, or item catalog.

What is known about the game itself
Nintendo describes Reverie in the Moonlight as an action game in which monsters attack night after night and plushies defend the protagonist. Nintendo’s 2026 product listing advertises 40 types of plushies, more than 100 items, and more than 20 costumes. Those figures are publisher descriptions, not an independently verified count.
The listing identifies single-system play for the Switch version. No multiplayer requirement is stated in the published details, so plan on playing locally on one console unless a later product update says otherwise.
Price, physical copies, and preorder bonuses
The official information currently available does not establish a final digital price for any edition or the upgrade pack. Check the amount displayed in Nintendo eShop or Nintendo.com immediately before confirming payment; store prices can change before launch and can vary by region.
The published listings also do not establish a physical cartridge edition, retailer inventory, or a preorder bonus. Do not assume that a cartridge, special edition, early-access period, or bonus item exists unless Nintendo or an authorized retailer adds those details to a live listing.

The game does not appear in search
Confirm that you are searching the exact title and that your Nintendo Account is connected to the intended regional eShop. Nintendo enables preorder listings individually, so an unreleased title may not be visible in every region or on every account at the same time. Try the official Nintendo.com listing while signed in if eShop search returns no result.
You see the wrong edition
Back out of checkout and read the complete product name again. The regular Switch version, Switch 2 Edition, and upgrade pack are separate listings. If you already own the base game, open the game’s related products or search specifically for “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack” rather than purchasing the full Edition a second time.

The preorder button is missing
Not every unreleased game is preorderable in every storefront. Check that the product page identifies the game as unreleased, that your account region is supported, and that the listing is not temporarily unavailable. Nintendo’s support guidance applies to selected games, not every future release.
Payment fails during processing
Update the Nintendo Account payment method or add sufficient matching-region eShop balance before Nintendo retries the charge. A preorder is not safely funded merely because checkout succeeded weeks earlier; verify that the payment source will still work when the processing window begins.
The preload will not start
Check free storage against Nintendo’s 550 MB estimate, connect the console to the internet, and verify that automatic software downloads are enabled if you expect an unattended preload. You can also open the game’s HOME Menu options and check for an available software update. Additional space may be required for the release update.
The game is still locked on launch day
Install any pending system or game update, connect to the internet, and confirm that you are using the Nintendo Account that completed the purchase. If the console downloaded only preorder data, it may need to contact Nintendo’s servers once the release authorization is active.
A practical preorder checklist
- Confirm the target console: original Switch or Switch 2.
- Decide whether you need the standard version, Switch 2 Edition, or upgrade pack.
- If using the upgrade pack, verify that the base game is owned on the same Nintendo Account.
- Check the live product page for the current price and edition label.
- Match any eShop gift card currency and region to the Nintendo Account.
- Free at least 550 MB, plus room for updates.
- Keep the payment method valid through the seven-day processing window.
- Leave the console connected so the preload can download.
- Install the release update before trying to play on launch day.
For most first-time Switch 2 buyers, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is the straightforward choice because it includes the advertised Joy-Con 2 mouse-sensor support and improved frame rate. For an existing owner, the upgrade pack is the route Nintendo provides to obtain those enhancements without buying the base game again. Switch owners can preorder the standard digital version, which Nintendo lists as supported on Switch 2 as well.
