Pre-order a Secret Lair drop through the official Secret Lair storefront. Open the exact drop page, verify the edition, price, sale status, shipping start date, quantity limit, and regional terms, then complete checkout. Putting an item in your cart—or merely joining an event queue—does not reserve it; Wizards of the Coast says products are secured only when checkout is completed.
Because each drop can have different terms, treat the product page and that event’s announcement as the final authority. The sequence below shows how to prepare, enter a published pre-queue, choose between editions, and avoid the mistakes that most often cost buyers an order.
What a Secret Lair pre-order actually is
A Secret Lair pre-order is a purchase made through Wizards of the Coast’s official storefront before the product’s stated shipping window. It is not a reservation created by a notification signup, a queue position, or an item sitting in your shopping cart. The transaction becomes secured only after you finish checkout.

A drop page can use labels such as “Preorder now,” “Add to cart,” or a notification signup, depending on its current status. Those labels are product-specific, so do not infer that one drop’s timing, price, or limits apply to another.

Check the drop page before you commit
Do not rely on a social post, an old screenshot, or another Secret Lair’s dates. Open the target product page and record the terms that affect your decision.
Confirm the sale status
Look for wording that says the item is available for preorder, on sale, upcoming, or no longer available. An upcoming listing may offer notification signup without accepting orders yet. A reminder is useful for planning, but the storefront does not promise that signup gives priority access or holds inventory.
Compare the available editions
Some drops offer foil and non-foil editions. Select the edition deliberately before adding anything to your cart; the product title, price, and stock status can change when you switch variants. The Hobbit product page demonstrates this kind of product-specific choice rather than a universal Secret Lair rule.

On the cited Hobbit example, the page lists foil and non-foil choices, a shipping start date, a while-supplies-last condition, and a two-per-customer limit. Those are examples of fields to inspect, not default terms for every release.

Separate product terms from event promotions
An event announcement may advertise a shipping threshold or a promotional card while supplies last. Wizards’ 2026 announcements referenced free shipping above $99 for the specific event described there, subject to its terms. That threshold should not be treated as a standing policy. Verify the current event announcement and the checkout totals for your region before counting on free shipping or a bonus item.
Prepare your account and checkout details
Preparation reduces the amount of work you must do while a popular sale is opening. Wizards’ event checklist recommends the following account steps.

Use the account you intend to use for the purchase rather than waiting until the sale begins.
- Review the shipping address. Check every line, postal code, country, and contact detail. An old address can be more damaging than a slow queue because the order may already be submitted when you notice it.
- Save payment details if the storefront offers that option. Wizards identifies saved payment information as a way to move through checkout faster. Confirm that the stored method is still valid and that its billing details match your payment provider.
- Decide your edition and quantity in advance. Write down whether you want foil or non-foil and how many the page allows. This avoids a last-second variant mistake.
- Convert the announced opening time to your local time. Event times are often stated in Pacific Time. Confirm the date as well as the hour; a daylight-saving change can alter the local conversion.
- Keep the product page and the event announcement available. The product page supplies item-level terms, while the announcement supplies queue instructions when that event uses them.
A current browser, a stable connection, and an account already signed in are sensible practical precautions, but they do not create a reservation. The only milestone that secures the products is completed checkout.
Understand the pre-queue before sale time
Queue mechanics are announced per event. In two Wizards announcements published in August 2026, the pre-queue opened at 8 a.m. Pacific Time for a 9 a.m. Pacific Time sale—one hour early. Use those times as examples, not as a permanent Secret Lair schedule.

- Someone who entered the pre-queue before the sale began received a randomly assigned queue position when the sale started.
- Someone who proceeded to checkout after the sale opened entered in the order they reached that step.
The queue controls access to checkout; it does not set aside stock for you. A queue position therefore is not equivalent to a successful order. Follow the instructions in the announcement for your particular drop instead of assuming that every release uses the same opening time or queue design.
Step-by-step: placing the pre-order
- Open the official storefront. Go to secretlair.wizards.com/us/en and locate the exact drop. If it is listed as upcoming, use notification signup only as a reminder and return when ordering opens.
- Open the individual product page. Read the sale status, edition choices, price, shipping start date, quantity limit, and terms. Do not skip this page because a similarly named drop may have different conditions.
- Sign in and verify your account details. Confirm the shipping address and payment method before trying to buy. If the event has a pre-queue, follow its stated entry procedure at the announced time.
- Choose the edition. Select foil or non-foil, if both are offered, and check that the selected variant’s name and price are the ones you intend to buy.
- Set the quantity within the displayed limit. If the page says two per customer, for example, do not attempt a third copy. Limits are drop-specific and can be lower or absent on another page.
- Add the product to the cart. Adding it lets you proceed toward checkout, but it does not reserve stock. Wizards’ Aug. 24, 2026 announcement states: “Adding products to your cart does not reserve them. Products are only secured once checkout is completed.” The Aug. 27 announcement repeats the same warning.
- Enter or follow the queue when required. During a published pre-queue, you may be asked to add any product and proceed to checkout so the system can place you in line. A pre-queue position is access control, not an inventory guarantee.
- Review the order summary. Check the exact product name, edition, quantity, price, shipping charge, destination, and any promotion or threshold. Correct an error before submitting payment.
- Submit payment and wait for the confirmation. Do not close the process after reaching the cart or queue screen. The order is secured only once checkout completes and the storefront confirms the purchase.
- Save the confirmation. Keep the confirmation email and order number. They are your record of the completed transaction and the terms shown at purchase.
How to choose foil versus non-foil
When both versions are listed, make the choice using the live values on that drop’s page. There is no universal price difference, shipping date, or stock rule that can be safely applied to every release.

The useful comparison is not a general claim that one finish is better. It is the combination of finish, listed price, stock status, shipping timing, and limit for the specific drop you are buying.
Shipping dates, regions, and promotions
Shipping start is an estimate of dispatch timing
Product pages identify when shipping is scheduled to start. Treat that date as the beginning of the fulfillment window, not as a promise that the parcel will arrive that day. Keep the page’s date with your order confirmation so you can distinguish a product-specific schedule from another drop’s schedule.
Check your region at checkout
The storefront can show different availability, prices, taxes, shipping charges, or promotional conditions by region. Read the destination and total in the final order summary. If an announcement mentions a threshold such as free shipping above $99, confirm that the threshold applies to your country and order before submitting payment.

Promotional cards and limited extras
An event may describe a promotional card available while supplies last. Such an item is not guaranteed merely because you joined the queue or met a threshold. Look for the promotion in the current announcement and in the checkout summary, and preserve the terms with your confirmation.

The drop page is visible, but ordering is not open
Check the page’s status and the event announcement. An upcoming page may offer only notification signup until the published opening time. Do not assume that repeatedly refreshing or adding the item early creates a reservation.
You joined the queue but the product disappeared
A queue position does not reserve inventory. Continue to checkout as soon as the system permits, and verify that the item remains in the order summary. If it is unavailable, the drop may have reached its limit or sold through; the product page is the place to confirm the current status.
The cart shows the item, but you are unsure whether it is yours
It is not secured yet. Complete the shipping, payment, and review steps and wait for the order confirmation. Wizards explicitly distinguishes carting from securing the product.
You selected the wrong edition
Before payment, remove the incorrect variant and add the intended one, then recheck the title and price in the summary. After confirmation, do not assume that an edition can be changed; retain the order number and consult the current support instructions if a correction is needed.

The quantity exceeds the limit
Reduce the quantity to the per-customer limit printed on the product page. Do not infer that separate carts or accounts make an over-limit purchase acceptable; the published limit is the condition to follow for that drop.
A payment or address error blocks checkout
Recheck the billing details, payment validity, and shipping address saved to the account. Correct the error and return to the order summary to make sure the item and quantity are still present. Until checkout succeeds, the cart is not a completed order.
You received a notification but cannot buy immediately
Notification signup is a reminder mechanism, not a priority lane or inventory hold. Open the storefront, read the current status, and follow the normal product-page and checkout process.

What to do after checkout
Save the confirmation email, order number, purchased edition, quantity, total, and the shipping start date shown at purchase. Use those details if you need to compare a later storefront update with the terms under which you ordered.
Monitor the account and email associated with the order for fulfillment notices. A shipping start date can move independently of the original sale schedule, so avoid promising yourself a delivery date based only on the product page. If your address or payment situation changes, consult the current official order-support process rather than assuming an edit is possible after confirmation.
Optional care for the physical cards
Sleeves and storage are optional accessories, not prerequisites for placing a preorder. The official pages cited here do not prescribe a sleeve size, storage product, or brand. Decide how you will protect and organize the cards after they arrive, but keep that decision separate from the time-sensitive steps that secure the order.
Five-minute checklist before the sale
- Open the official Secret Lair storefront and the exact drop page.
- Confirm status, edition, price, shipping start date, quantity limit, and regional terms.
- Sign in to your Wizards Account and verify the shipping address.
- Check the payment method and decide your desired quantity.
- Read the event announcement for that drop’s opening time and queue instructions.
- Enter any published pre-queue at the stated time, remembering that queue entry is not a reservation.
- Review the final order summary for edition, quantity, destination, shipping, and promotions.
- Complete checkout and keep the confirmation; only then does Wizards consider the product secured.
Storefront inventory, prices, shipping dates, sale timing, and queue instructions can change. Recheck the target page immediately before purchasing, especially when the event is advertised with a date or time from 2026.
