You cannot complete a preorder for Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling yet. As of October 16, 2026, Steam shows the game as Coming soon, offers a downloadable demo and wishlist notifications, but does not provide a preorder checkout. The announced launch window is December 2026 for PC via Steam and January 2027 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. Nintendo’s Canadian store lists January 21, 2027 for Switch.
No official source reviewed has announced Standard, Deluxe, Collector’s, boxed, or other named editions. Until each platform publishes its store page, the practical choice is the platform that fits your hardware, account, controller preferences and language needs—not an edition tier.
Preorder status: what you can do now
The current Steam listing is a planning page rather than a sales page. It has no checkout button, preorder price, release-day purchase option or bonus information. You can still use the page for two useful actions:

For console buyers, do not use an unauthorised reseller or a generic product listing as a substitute for an official store page. The publisher has announced the console versions, but final prices, preorder timing, languages and purchase options must come from the relevant platform storefront.

The October 12 announcement describes the PC launch as coming in December 2026 and the Switch and PS5 versions as arriving in January 2027. Only the Canadian Nintendo listing supplies a day-specific date. A January release announcement for PS5 should not be treated as a final day until the PlayStation Store publishes one.
What kind of game is it?
Steam describes Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling as a cozy narrative simulation. You return from city life to an alpine village, care for goats, craft mountain goods and help villagers rebuild their lives. Dialogue and personal decisions branch, allowing a slower or more ambitious approach to change. The store tags identify it as Adventure, Indie, Simulation, Life Sim, Story Rich, Choices Matter, Cozy, Crafting, Fishing and Singleplayer.

Those systems matter when selecting hardware. Someone who wants a handheld, relaxed play session may value Switch portability; a player who prefers a PC library, keyboard-and-mouse flexibility or Steam notifications may prefer the Steam version; a household already centered on PlayStation may find PS5 the most convenient ecosystem. None of those preferences proves that one version has more content, because platform-specific feature parity has not been documented.
How to prepare for a PC purchase
1. Add the correct Steam listing to your wishlist
- Open Steam and search for the complete title, Heidi’s Legacy: Mountains Calling.
- Confirm that the developer shown is Humble Reeds and that the page describes the goat-care, crafting and village-rebuilding simulation.
- Select the wishlist control. If Steam asks you to sign in, use the account that will own and play the game.
- Leave notifications enabled for Steam wishlist updates if you want an alert when purchasing becomes possible.
Checking the developer and description helps avoid similarly named community pages or unrelated Heidi products. The wishlist does not reserve a copy and does not tell you what the eventual price will be.
2. Use the demo as a compatibility check
Download the demo from the same official Steam listing. Evaluate practical issues rather than assuming that the demo represents every final feature:

- Whether the game starts reliably on your computer.
- Whether text is readable at your monitor’s resolution and scaling.
- Whether your preferred controller or keyboard-and-mouse setup responds comfortably.
- Whether the pacing, dialogue choices, crafting and fishing systems suit the way you want to play.
- Whether your computer has enough free storage for the demo and a later full installation.
The available information does not establish demo-to-full-game save transfer, final system requirements, achievements, cloud-save behavior or mod support. Do not buy hardware or assume a performance target until Steam publishes those details.
3. Recheck the page before paying
When the listing changes from Coming soon to a purchasable release, read the then-current PC requirements, supported languages, price, release time and refund terms. These are storefront details that can change by region and are not supplied in the current announcement.
How to prepare for a Nintendo Switch purchase
Use the official regional listing
Nintendo’s Canadian store identifies the Switch release as January 21, 2027. Store pages can differ by country, currency, tax treatment and availability, so a Canadian date should not automatically be presented as the date for every region. Sign in to the Nintendo Account that will use the game and verify that the listing is for Nintendo Switch software before purchasing.

Confirm language support
The Canadian Nintendo listing specifies one-player software and support for English, Japanese, French, German, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. If language choice is important, check the store page for your own region as well; storefront metadata can vary, and the listing does not explain whether every language applies to menus, subtitles, spoken dialogue or all text.
Choose the Switch version when these priorities fit
- You want to play in handheld or tabletop mode as well as on a television.
- You already use a Nintendo Account and prefer keeping purchases in that library.
- You want the language set published on the Nintendo listing.
- You accept that final price, download size and any physical-card availability must be confirmed on your regional store page.
The listing confirms one-player software, but it does not establish local multiplayer, online features, cross-save, cross-buy or performance modes. Do not pay extra for accessories or services on the assumption that one of those features exists.
How to prepare for a PlayStation 5 purchase
The publisher’s October 12, 2026 announcement places the PS5 version in January 2027, but the reviewed information does not include an official PlayStation Store product page. Until that page appears, there is no confirmed PS5 price, exact launch day, language list, preorder window, edition name, bonus or purchase status.

What to check when the store page appears
- Verify the title and developer before selecting a purchase option.
- Confirm that the product is marked for PlayStation 5 rather than a different platform.
- Read the release date and time shown for your PlayStation Network region.
- Check whether the page identifies a single edition or multiple tiers.
- Review languages, storage requirements, accessibility information and any stated upgrade or cross-buy terms.
- Only then compare the price with the Steam and Nintendo listings available in your region.
A publisher announcement is enough to establish an announced platform and month, but a store page is the authority for transaction details. Avoid third-party codes that promise access before an official listing confirms how redemption works.

This absence is important: there is currently no evidence-based reason to wait for a particular tier or to pay a premium to secure one. If named editions appear later, compare exactly what each includes rather than relying on labels such as Deluxe or Ultimate.
A platform-first decision framework
Choose PC via Steam if
- You want to try the downloadable demo before purchase.
- You already manage games through Steam and want wishlist notifications in that account.
- Your computer meets the final requirements published on the store page.
- You prefer playing on a monitor, laptop or a compatible PC controller.
Choose Nintendo Switch if
- Handheld and tabletop play are central to your routine.
- Your Nintendo Account and existing controller setup are the most convenient option.
- The languages listed for your regional Nintendo store meet your needs.
- You are comfortable waiting for the date and price shown by your local Nintendo storefront.
Choose PlayStation 5 if
- Your main gaming library and friends list are on PlayStation.
- You want to play on a television with DualSense controls.
- You are willing to wait for the official PlayStation Store listing to confirm transaction details.
Do not select a platform based on an unannounced edition, an assumed discount or a supposed physical copy. Those are separate questions that require platform-specific confirmation.

- Platform: The product matches your console model or PC account.
- Region: The currency, tax treatment and release timing apply to your storefront.
- Edition contents: Any bonus is described on the official product page, not in a reseller’s headline.
- Languages: The listed languages cover the text and audio support you require.
- Storage: You have enough space for the final installation, not just the demo.
- Account: You are signed into the account that should own the license.
- Refund rules: You understand the platform’s current digital-purchase policy before downloading.
- Release timing: A month-level announcement has not been mistaken for a guaranteed day.
Pricing, bonuses and regional availability
No price is stated in the reviewed Steam, Nintendo or publisher information. There is also no confirmed preorder discount, launch bonus, soundtrack, artbook, early-access period or physical package. Prices can differ between countries and can be changed by a storefront, so preserve the currency and date shown at checkout if you need a record.
The safest buying path is to use the official Steam, Nintendo eShop or PlayStation Store page for your account region. If a retailer lists a product before the platform does, treat the listing as unverified unless the publisher or platform confirms it. A generic Heidi book, unrelated game, console accessory or nonofficial code is not a substitute for this title.
About the Heidi connection
The publisher’s October 12, 2026 announcement presents the game as inspired by the world-renowned Heidi intellectual property. The same release says the children’s novel has sold more than 50 million copies and has been adapted for film and television 25 times. Those figures are claims reproduced in the announcement, not independently verified sales or adaptation totals. They provide context for the setting, but they do not indicate which game edition to buy or guarantee that every book or screen adaptation is represented.
