Grand Theft Auto VI is available to pre-order now for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, at midnight local time, and the game launches on November 19, 2026. You can order through the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, Rockstar Store, or a participating retailer. The $79.99 Standard Edition includes the base game, while the $99.99 Ultimate Edition adds a substantial bundle of in-game vehicles, weapons, locations, clothing and customization content. A physical Standard Edition is a code-in-box package with no disc.

This guide explains exactly how to order, what each edition contains, how digital and physical purchases differ, how regional codes work, and whether you should buy Ultimate immediately or upgrade later.

Before you pre-order: platform, date and price

Check these three details before opening a store page:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Supported consoles: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The current official launch listing does not include PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch or PC.
  • Launch date: November 19, 2026.
  • U.S. list prices: $79.99 for Standard Edition and $99.99 for Ultimate Edition. Prices in other countries vary with local currency, taxes and each platform’s storefront.

Pre-orders began June 25, 2026, at midnight local time. If you are ordering after that date, the normal pre-order bonuses and delivery rules still depend on the store listing and the date of purchase. Purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Digital pre-orders also include one free month of GTA+.

Where to pre-order GTA VI

Use a store that matches your console and account region. The official options are:

  • PlayStation Store: for a PS5 digital purchase.
  • Xbox Store: for an Xbox Series X|S digital purchase.
  • Rockstar Store: where the relevant console edition is offered.
  • Participating retailers: for a physical code-in-box package or, where offered, a retailer-supplied digital code.

A retailer’s stock, price, delivery date and cancellation terms are its own responsibility; Rockstar does not guarantee availability from any particular retailer. Before paying, confirm that the listing is for your console, says Grand Theft Auto VI, and identifies the seller as authorized or participating in your country.

How to pre-order GTA VI digitally

  1. Confirm your console. Select the PS5 listing if you use PlayStation 5, or the Xbox Series X|S listing if you use an Xbox Series console. Do not buy a code for a different platform.
  2. Open the matching official storefront. Sign in to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store or Rockstar Store account that you will use to play. The purchase is delivered to that account.
  3. Choose an edition. Select Standard if you want the base game, or Ultimate if you want the additional in-game content at checkout. The edition name should be visible before you add it to your cart.
  4. Review the region and currency. Make sure the store country matches your account and payment details. This prevents a code or entitlement from being unusable after purchase.
  5. Check the final total. The announced U.S. prices are $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate; your storefront may add local taxes or show a converted price.
  6. Complete payment and save the confirmation. Keep the order number and receipt. They are useful if the entitlement does not appear or you need to ask the store about a refund.
  7. Install the game when pre-loading opens. Digital pre-load begins November 12, 2026, at midnight local time. The exact download size and required free storage are not stated in the available launch information, so check the store page and your console before that date.

The one-month GTA+ offer applies to digital pre-orders. The Vintage Vice City Pack applies to all pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026, subject to the terms shown by the store.

Standard Edition vs. Ultimate Edition

Both editions contain the full base game. Ultimate is not a different campaign or a separate release; it is the Standard game bundled with an Ultimate Edition Upgrade containing extra game-world and equipment content.

Edition Price announced for the U.S. What you receive Best fit
Standard Edition digital $79.99 Base game, Vintage Vice City Pack for qualifying pre-orders, one free month of GTA+ for digital pre-orders, and November 12 local-midnight pre-load. Players who want the complete base game, the simplest account delivery and early installation.
Standard Edition physical $79.99 announced U.S. price; retailer price may differ A retail box containing a download code for the game and Vintage Vice City Pack; no disc. Expected shipping or store pickup from November 12. People who want a box or giftable package and are comfortable redeeming a code.
Ultimate Edition digital $99.99 Standard game plus the complete Ultimate Edition Upgrade content listed below. Players who already know they want the extra vehicles, weapons, properties, clothing and customization options.
Standard, then Ultimate Upgrade Standard price plus a separately priced digital upgrade; upgrade price is not stated Standard owners can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally at any time after redeeming the game code. Players who want to defer the premium decision or start with the base game.

The $20 difference between the announced U.S. list prices is the cost of receiving Ultimate content with the initial purchase. Local storefront pricing can produce a different difference after currency conversion and taxes.

What is included in the Ultimate Edition Upgrade?

The upgrade is a bundle of named in-game items and locations. The official list includes:

The list describes content, not a promise that every item is immediately usable at the start of the story. Treat those details as unknown until Rockstar publishes the relevant in-game explanations.

Digital or physical: which format should you choose?

Digital Standard or Ultimate

Digital is the most direct option if you want the game attached to your PlayStation or Xbox account. You do not wait for a shipment, and the announced November 12 local-midnight pre-load lets you install before launch day. Digital pre-orders also include one free month of GTA+. The trade-off is that the purchase is tied to the account and platform ecosystem used at checkout.

Physical Standard Edition

The physical package is not a traditional disc release. Rockstar Support states that the box contains a download code for the digital game and that no disc is included. The package also includes the Vintage Vice City Pack. Expected shipping or store pickup begins November 12, but the actual arrival depends on the retailer and your delivery method.

Because it is a code-in-box product, you must redeem the code on the correct PlayStation or Xbox account and download the game. A box on a shelf does not mean the game can be installed without an internet connection. Read the retailer listing for the platform, country and redemption instructions before buying.

When the box is a better choice

  • You want a physical package to give as a gift.
  • You prefer a retailer receipt and a boxed product even though the game itself is downloaded.
  • You want to compare local retailer pricing or pickup options.

When digital is a better choice

  • You want the account entitlement immediately and do not want to wait for delivery.
  • You want the November 12 pre-load without waiting for a code-in-box shipment.
  • You want the digital pre-order’s one free month of GTA+.

Can you upgrade Standard to Ultimate later?

Yes. Rockstar Support says Standard owners can buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade as a digital add-on through the PlayStation or Microsoft storefronts at any time after redeeming the game code. This applies whether your Standard purchase was digital or a physical code-in-box edition, provided the code has been redeemed on the matching platform account.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Buying Standard first is therefore a legitimate flexibility strategy. You receive the base game, then decide after launch whether the named Ultimate content is worth paying for. The upgrade’s price is not stated in the available announcement, so check the add-on listing before confirming the later purchase. Do not assume the $20 launch difference will remain the upgrade price in every region or at every date.

Account region and code redemption

Region matching matters most when you buy a physical code or a digital code from a retailer. Rockstar recommends buying from the country that matches your platform account. A code bought in one market may not redeem on an account registered in another.

  • PlayStation: codes follow regional groupings. Check the code’s country or region against your PlayStation account before opening the package or asking a retailer for help.
  • Xbox: the announced guidance says Xbox codes are not region-locked, but the store can still display a different currency, tax or edition based on your account location.
  • Travel and gifts: do not assume that a code purchased abroad will work for the recipient. Confirm the recipient’s account region first.

If a code fails, stop entering it repeatedly. Verify the console platform, account country, characters in the code and whether the code has already been redeemed. Keep the receipt and contact the retailer or platform support with the order information.

Pre-order timeline and what happens next

Date Event What it means for you
June 25, 2026 Pre-orders opened at midnight local time. Standard and Ultimate became available through official stores and participating retailers.
November 12, 2026 Digital pre-load starts at midnight local time; physical Standard packages are expected to ship or become available for pickup. Digital buyers can begin downloading. Physical buyers may receive or collect the code-in-box package from this date, subject to retailer timing.
November 19, 2026 Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game becomes playable according to the platform’s release rules once installed and any required account checks are complete.
November 20, 2026 The stated window for purchases that include the Vintage Vice City Pack ends. Do not assume a purchase made on or after this date includes the pack unless the store listing explicitly says so.

The dates are local-time or retailer-dependent where noted. A midnight pre-load in one time zone does not mean every region starts at the same moment in UTC, and a shipping estimate is not a guarantee of delivery.

How to choose the right edition

Choose Standard if you want the base game

Standard is the sensible default for players whose priority is the complete GTA VI game rather than bonus properties, vehicles or cosmetics. It costs less at the announced U.S. prices, includes the Vintage Vice City Pack during the qualifying purchase window, and can be upgraded later.

Choose Ultimate if you already value the extras

Ultimate is appropriate when the listed vehicles, weapons, styles, safehouse vehicles, shops, clothing and classic-car content are important to you from the outset. The digital edition delivers those entitlements with the initial purchase, avoiding a later add-on transaction.

Choose physical Standard for a code-in-box gift

Select the physical package only if you understand that it contains no disc. It is a download code in a retail box, so the recipient still needs the correct console account and an internet connection to redeem and download the game.

Choose Standard now and decide later

This approach limits the initial commitment while preserving access to Ultimate content through a later digital upgrade. It is particularly useful if you want to play at launch but are unsure whether the extra items justify the premium.

Pre-order checklist

  • Confirm you own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S.
  • Match the product listing to your console.
  • Check whether you are buying Standard, Ultimate or a separate upgrade.
  • For a physical listing, confirm that it says download code and no disc.
  • Verify the store or code region against your platform account.
  • Check the local price, tax and currency before payment.
  • Save the order confirmation and retailer receipt.
  • Note November 12 for pre-load or expected physical availability.
  • Note November 19 as the launch date.
  • Review the seller’s cancellation and refund policy before ordering.

Common problems and fixes

The game is not showing in your library

Sign in to the account that completed the purchase, then check the platform’s purchase history and library. A code-in-box buyer must redeem the code before the game entitlement appears. If the order is pending, use the confirmation number when contacting the store rather than buying a second copy.

You bought the wrong console version

Do not redeem a code until you have confirmed the platform. Contact the retailer or platform support immediately and ask about its cancellation or exchange rules. Once a code is redeemed, the ability to change platforms may be limited.

A regional code will not redeem

Check the account country, the code’s stated region and every character entered. PlayStation codes follow regional groupings, while Xbox codes are not region-locked according to the stated guidance. A receipt and a photograph of the code packaging can help the seller investigate.

The physical box has no disc

No disc is missing: the physical GTA VI package is intentionally code-in-box. Redeem the printed code on the matching platform account, then download the game.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You cannot find the Ultimate upgrade

Redeem and install the Standard game first, then look for the Ultimate Edition Upgrade as a digital add-on in the PlayStation or Microsoft storefront. Rockstar’s guidance allows the upgrade at any time after code redemption. Make sure you are signed into the account that owns Standard.

Bottom line for most buyers

For most players, Standard digital is the lowest-friction choice: it provides the base game, qualifies for the stated pre-order bonuses, and can be upgraded later. Choose Ultimate digital if the listed bonus content is worth the additional $20 at the announced U.S. prices. Choose physical Standard only when you specifically want a retail box, because it is a download code with no disc. Whichever format you select, buy for the correct PS5 or Xbox Series account, keep the region aligned, and plan around the November 12 pre-load or shipping date and the November 19 launch.
