You can play both 2026 releases—Disney/Pixar Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Disney/Pixar Toy Story 3 Complete Edition—directly on Xbox Series X|S because Microsoft lists them as optimized for those consoles. The older 2010 Toy Story 3: The Video Game is also playable through Xbox backward compatibility. A disc-capable Xbox Series X can use an eligible Xbox 360 disc; Xbox Series S owners must use a digital license because Series S has no disc drive.
Choose the 2026 digital edition for the newest presentation, check your Xbox library before buying the old game again, and verify regional pricing and physical availability before ordering a disc or bundle.
Which Toy Story games work on Xbox Series X|S?
There are three relevant products, not one similarly named release:
- Toy Story: Retro Roundup! (2026) is a new remastered collection. Microsoft’s Xbox Store lists it as optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Creative Bloq reports a United States digital price of $24.99 and a release date of October 15, 2026.
- Toy Story 3 Complete Edition (2026) is a remastered edition of the 2010 game. It is listed separately for Xbox Series X|S and is also included in a combined product with Retro Roundup!. Creative Bloq identifies Digital Eclipse with the Retro Roundup! remaster and Avalanche in connection with Toy Story 3.
- Toy Story 3: The Video Game (2010 Xbox 360 release) is the older version. Xbox Wire’s backward-compatibility catalog lists “Toy Story 3 | Games on Demand | Disney Interactive Studios.” Owners of an eligible digital license can use the backward-compatible version on Series X|S; owners of an eligible Xbox 360 disc can use it on a disc-capable Series X.
Microsoft’s catalog also lists a combined Retro Roundup! plus Toy Story 3 Complete Edition product. Storefront names, prices and included formats can vary by country, so open the listing for your account’s region before purchasing.

How to play the 2026 releases on Xbox Series X or Series S
Buy and install from the Xbox Store
- Sign in to the Microsoft account you use on your Xbox console.
- Open the Microsoft Store on the console, or use the Xbox Store website while signed in to the same account.
- Search for the complete product name: Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, or the combined Retro Roundup! plus Toy Story 3 Complete Edition listing.
- Check that the product page says it is optimized for Xbox Series X|S. Do not assume that a similarly titled Xbox 360 listing is the 2026 remaster.
- Review the price and edition details shown for your country. The $24.99 figure reported for Retro Roundup! is a United States digital price reported for the October 15, 2026 launch; it is not a worldwide or permanent price.
- Complete the purchase, then choose Install. If you bought on the web, open My games & apps on the console and find the title in your library or owned-games list.
- Wait for installation and any required update to finish. Launch the game from My games & apps or your Home screen.
The purchase is a digital license tied to your Microsoft account. You can reinstall it on a compatible Xbox console signed in to that account, subject to Microsoft’s licensing rules and the product’s regional availability.
Choose the right 2026 product
Retro Roundup! is the collection-oriented purchase. Creative Bloq describes it as a remastered collection with historical extras, making it the natural choice if you want archival material alongside the games represented in the package.
Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is the remastered version of the 2010 Toy Story 3 game. Buy it by itself if that is the only game you want, or choose the combined listing if you want both 2026 products. The available material does not establish a separate United States price for Toy Story 3 Complete Edition or a universal price for the combined digital product, so use the figure displayed in your Xbox Store region.

Playing the original Xbox 360 Toy Story 3 on Series X
Digital owners
If you bought the Xbox 360 version digitally, first check your library rather than purchasing a second copy. Xbox describes backward compatibility as free for select Xbox 360, original Xbox and Xbox One games that you already own. The catalog entry for Toy Story 3 identifies the Xbox 360 “Games on Demand” release from Disney Interactive Studios.
- Sign in to the Microsoft account that purchased the Xbox 360 game.
- Open My games & apps and look under your owned games, or search the Microsoft Store while signed in.
- Select the backward-compatible Toy Story 3 listing, not the 2026 Toy Story 3 Complete Edition.
- Choose Install. The console will install the version made available through Xbox backward compatibility.
- Launch the game after installation. If the title does not appear, verify that you are using the purchasing account and that the game is still listed as compatible in your region.
Backward compatibility does not turn the 2010 game into the 2026 remaster. It is the older Xbox 360 release delivered through the compatibility program, while Toy Story 3 Complete Edition is a separate remastered product.

Disc owners
An eligible Xbox 360 disc can be used on a disc-capable Xbox Series X. The Xbox Series S has no disc drive, so this method does not work on Series S.
- Confirm that your console is a disc-capable Series X model and that the disc is an Xbox 360 copy of Toy Story 3: The Video Game.
- Insert the disc with the console connected to the internet.
- If Xbox recognizes the title, follow the on-screen prompt to install or download the backward-compatible game.
- Leave the disc in the drive when you play. It serves as the ownership check even after the compatible game has been installed.
- If the console does not recognize the disc, remove it, check for damage and verify the title and region before trying again. A disc that is not part of the eligible compatibility catalog will not become playable simply because it fits the drive.
The disc route gives you the original Xbox 360 game, not the 2026 Complete Edition. If you want the remastered presentation or the newer edition’s features, buy the Series X|S-optimized product separately.

Some Series X product configurations may be digital-only. If you plan to use an Xbox 360 disc, confirm that your particular console has an optical drive; the compatibility information applies to a disc-capable Series X.
What is different between the 2026 editions and the old game?
Toy Story: Retro Roundup!
This is the newly remastered collection released on October 15, 2026, according to Creative Bloq. Microsoft lists it as optimized for Series X|S. Its collection format and historical extras distinguish it from buying one older Xbox 360 game through backward compatibility. The available listing does not provide a universal item-by-item breakdown of every included game or extra, so read the regional product description if a specific title or bonus matters to you.
Toy Story 3 Complete Edition
This is the 2026 remastered edition of the 2010 Toy Story 3 game. It is sold as its own Series X|S product and appears in the combined package with Retro Roundup!. The word “Complete Edition” does not mean that an Xbox 360 disc automatically upgrades; the 2010 disc remains the backward-compatible release, while the remaster is a separately licensed product.

Toy Story 3: The Video Game for Xbox 360
The older release is the one listed in Xbox’s backward-compatibility catalog. It is useful if you already own the digital license or can obtain an eligible disc, but its presentation and feature set are those of the 2010 game. Backward compatibility makes it playable on modern hardware; it does not rewrite the original game as a remaster.

Creative Bloq reports $24.99 for the United States digital version of Toy Story: Retro Roundup! at its October 15, 2026 release. Microsoft’s Xbox Store uses regional pricing, taxes and promotions, so your checkout total may differ and can change after launch. The available information does not establish a single worldwide price for Toy Story 3 Complete Edition or the combined digital package; rely on the price shown after selecting your store region.
The reported physical double pack
Creative Bloq reports a $49.99 physical double pack containing Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition. Physical-platform availability is not uniform: a Spanish announcement summary indicated that the physical pack was not available on Xbox. Treat $49.99 as a reported price for a particular physical offering, not a promise that an Xbox disc exists in every country. Check the box platform, region, publisher, included games and retailer return policy before paying.
Buying the Xbox 360 disc
If you specifically want the older release, search for the exact phrase “Toy Story 3 Xbox 360 video game” and verify all of the following before ordering:
- The listing is for the Xbox 360 game, not a movie, soundtrack, guide or 2026 remaster.
- The seller shows the disc and case condition clearly.
- The disc’s region is suitable for your console and account.
- The title matches the compatibility listing and is not a different Toy Story game.
- The seller accepts returns if the disc is unreadable or not as described.
Marketplace stock is volatile, and no particular retailer’s inventory is guaranteed. Buying a disc does not give a Series S a way to read it; Series S owners need a digital license.

Troubleshooting
The game does not appear in your library
- Sign out and back in with the Microsoft account that made the purchase.
- Search the Store using the full title and check the Owned or Install state.
- Make sure you are not confusing Toy Story 3 Complete Edition with the Xbox 360 backward-compatible listing.
- Check whether the purchase was made in a different regional storefront or under a family member’s account.
Series S will not read the disc
This is expected: Xbox Series S has no disc drive. Return or exchange a disc purchase if appropriate and obtain the digital edition or a digital code instead. Do not buy the same physical disc again expecting a software setting to make it work.
Series X does not recognize the Xbox 360 disc
- Confirm that the console has an optical drive.
- Clean the disc gently and inspect it for scratches or warping.
- Verify that it is the Xbox 360 Toy Story 3 game listed for backward compatibility.
- Connect the console to Xbox services and retry the installation prompt.
- Test another known-good disc to distinguish a disc problem from a drive problem.
If the title is not recognized after those checks, use the digital listing or contact the seller. Compatibility applies to eligible titles, not every Xbox 360 disc.
You bought the wrong edition
Compare the product name on your receipt with the title on the Store page. Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition are 2026 Series X|S-optimized releases. Toy Story 3: The Video Game is the older Xbox 360 product. If you wanted the remaster but bought the backward-compatible game, check Microsoft’s current refund rules promptly; eligibility depends on the transaction and account.
Installation stops or the game will not launch
- Check free storage under Settings and System storage options, then remove unused games if necessary.
- Pause other downloads so the installation can complete.
- Restart the console and resume the install from My games & apps.
- Check Xbox service status if Store pages, licenses or downloads fail across multiple titles.
Preservation and backward compatibility
Xbox says its backward-compatibility program used more than 500,000 hours of testing to meet Series X|S gameplay quality standards. That program is valuable for preserving the Xbox 360 release you already own, but it has a different purpose from a remaster. Backward compatibility supplies a supported way to run a selected older title; the 2026 editions are new products with their own listings, packaging and purchase rights.
For collectors, the choice is therefore practical as well as visual. A disc-capable Series X lets you retain the physical ownership check for the eligible Xbox 360 game. A Series S requires digital ownership. A 2026 digital purchase is the least complicated route for either console, while a physical bundle requires additional regional verification.

Recommended choices by priority
You want the newest version of Toy Story 3
Buy Toy Story 3 Complete Edition from the Xbox Store and confirm the Series X|S optimization label before checkout. If you also want the collection and historical extras, compare the combined listing in your region.
You want both 2026 products
Open the combined Retro Roundup! plus Toy Story 3 Complete Edition listing. Compare its price with the two separate digital listings in your country; the catalog provides both purchase paths, but prices can change.
You already own the 2010 game
Check your digital library first. If you own an eligible Xbox 360 disc and have a disc-capable Series X, use the disc route. Buy the Complete Edition only if you specifically want the remastered release rather than the backward-compatible original.

Those discs cannot be inserted into Series S. Select a digital release or obtain a digital license for a compatible game. If physical backward compatibility is important, it requires a disc-capable console.
Bottom line
For most new buyers, the simplest answer is a 2026 digital edition from the Xbox Store: both Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3 Complete Edition are listed as Xbox Series X|S-optimized. Choose Retro Roundup! for the remastered collection and historical extras, Toy Story 3 Complete Edition for the remastered 2010 game, or the combined listing for both. If you already own the Xbox 360 release, check your library first; a disc-capable Series X can use an eligible disc, while Series S cannot.
