Yes, you can play the original P.T. teaser on a modern PC with the unofficial PT-PC port—but the port does not include the game. You must provide a compatible dump of your own P.T. files (or a supported decrypted fake PKG), then install PT-PC from its current GitHub Releases package. An encrypted retail or PlayStation Store PKG will be refused, and the installer does not decrypt Sony-encrypted material.
PT-PC is a native Windows, Linux and macOS port that rebuilds the game logic in C++, renders through Vulkan and reads the original levels, models, textures, sounds, scripts and cutscenes at runtime. A microphone is optional: the project documents a keyboard/controller substitute for the voice-triggered sequence.
What PT-PC actually is
P.T. was the 2014 PlayStation 4 playable teaser associated with the cancelled Silent Hills project. It was released through PlayStation Network and delisted in early 2015, which is why installing it on a new console is no longer a normal store download.

The project README says PT-PC is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Konami or Kojima Productions. It also says the repository and installer contain none of their game assets. The port’s description says it supports the complete teaser, including the voice-related section; that is the project’s own description rather than an independent gameplay test.
PC Gamer identifies developer Lorean Xavier and quotes his explanation: “The idea that something so influential could eventually become practically unplayable never sat right with me.” That motivation explains why this project differs from older PC recreations that reproduced P.T.’s look and atmosphere in another engine.
What you must have before installing
Your own compatible game data
PT-PC is an engine and port, not a replacement for P.T.’s files. The installer expects either a compatible game-folder dump or a supported decrypted fake PKG supplied by you. The documentation describes support for US, EU and Japanese title IDs, with the US release being the one the developer tested.

An encrypted retail or PlayStation Store PKG is not accepted. PT-PC’s installer does not decrypt Sony-encrypted content. If the installer rejects your file, downloading a different copy from an unverified mirror is not a supported fix; use the project’s current documentation and the files you are legally entitled to retain and use in your location. The available technical documentation does not establish a universal legal answer for every method of acquiring, retaining or extracting P.T. data.

These are the project’s currently documented targets, not a guarantee that every future release will have identical packaging. Check the README and Releases page again when you install or update.

Vulkan 1.3 graphics support
A GPU and driver supporting Vulkan 1.3 are required. On macOS, PT-PC uses MoltenVK to translate Vulkan calls for Apple’s Metal graphics API. A computer that can run other modern games is not automatically suitable: verify Vulkan 1.3 support in the operating system’s graphics-driver information before troubleshooting the port.
Optional rendering features have narrower requirements:
- Ray-traced features require Vulkan ray queries and are not available on macOS.
- DLSS requires GeForce RTX hardware.
- FSR and XeSS have separate documented availability and should not be assumed to work on every GPU or operating system.
No particular graphics-card model is identified as mandatory. Check your existing GPU and driver first rather than buying hardware solely for an optional feature.
Microphone or alternative input
The original voice interaction listens for the word “Jack,” according to the PT-PC README. A microphone is not mandatory, because the project documents a substitute trigger: in PC Sound settings, enable Assign J / L2 + R2 for the microphone trigger. When the game prompts for the voice action, press J on the keyboard or press both mapped controller triggers.
A USB microphone can make the voice interaction feel closer to the original, but no particular model is required by the project. Treat it as an optional accessory, not an installation prerequisite.

Install PT-PC on Windows or Linux
The project maintains its installer and portable downloads on its GitHub Releases page. Use that page and the current README rather than a third-party mirror, because operating-system packages and supported file formats can change.

- Prepare your game data. Have the compatible dump folder or supported decrypted fake PKG available. Do not select an encrypted retail/store PKG; the installer will refuse it and cannot decrypt it.
- Download the current release. On the Releases page, choose the Windows or Linux installer. The project also documents portable downloads if you prefer not to use the installer.
- Run the installer and choose the source. Point it at your dump folder or fake PKG when prompted. The installer checks whether the input is recognized as P.T. and whether it is in a supported form.
- Read any regional notice. The documentation says US, EU and Japanese title IDs are supported and that different regional versions may install with a note. The US version is the one the developer reports testing.
- Complete the installation and launch the port. If validation succeeds, finish the installation, start PT-PC and open its settings before beginning the teaser.
The exact package name and installer screens are release-dependent, so follow the README bundled with the release you downloaded instead of relying on screenshots from an older version.
Install PT-PC on macOS
- Check the Mac. The project lists macOS 14 or newer on either Apple silicon or Intel. Remember that the developer has not run the Intel build on Intel hardware, so that path carries an explicit project-level caveat.
- Choose the correct archive. Download the Apple-silicon or Intel archive from the current Releases page, matching your Mac’s processor.
- Select your game dump. Open the application and point it to the compatible P.T. dump or supported decrypted fake PKG. Encrypted retail/store packages are not decrypted by the installer.
- Approve macOS security blocking if necessary. macOS may identify the application as unsigned. If it blocks the first launch, open System Settings > Privacy & Security, use the option to allow the blocked app, and then launch it again. The wording can vary by macOS release.
- Configure graphics and input. PT-PC uses MoltenVK on macOS. Ray-traced options are unavailable on this platform; leave them disabled and use only features your GPU supports.
Configure the first launch
After the port accepts the game data, open the settings before starting a session. Confirm that the display mode, resolution and controller or keyboard bindings are what you expect. If you want the original voice interaction, verify that the operating system has selected the intended microphone and that PT-PC can receive input from it.
For a microphone-free setup, go to PC Sound, turn on Assign J / L2 + R2 for the microphone trigger, and keep a keyboard with the J key or a controller with both trigger buttons available. Press the assigned input only when the sequence asks for the voice action; ordinary movement and interaction controls remain separate.
Keep optional upscaling and ray-tracing features conservative on the first launch. First establish that the base port starts and runs with Vulkan 1.3, then enable an additional feature one at a time. This makes a driver or feature-compatibility problem easier to identify.

Troubleshoot the common installation failures
The installer says the PKG is encrypted or unsupported
This is expected for a retail or PlayStation Store PKG that still uses Sony encryption. PT-PC does not decrypt it. Recheck that you selected a compatible decrypted fake PKG or an accepted game-folder dump, and consult the current installer documentation for the supported format. Do not treat an installer refusal as evidence that the port itself is broken.
The installer does not recognize the folder
Make sure you selected the game-data folder itself rather than an unrelated parent directory or an archive that has not been unpacked. Confirm that the dump corresponds to one of the documented regional title IDs. If the project reports a regional note, read it before changing files; the documentation allows US, EU and Japanese releases but identifies the US release as the developer-tested version.
The game will not start or reports a graphics error
- Verify that the GPU and installed driver expose Vulkan 1.3.
- Install the current graphics driver supplied for your operating system, then restart the computer before trying again.
- On macOS, remember that PT-PC runs Vulkan through MoltenVK and that ray-traced features are unavailable.
- Disable optional ray tracing, DLSS, FSR or XeSS features while checking basic startup. Each has separate hardware or driver conditions.
- On Linux, confirm the distribution’s glibc version is at least 2.38 as documented by the project.
If a new release changes its renderer or packaging, use that release’s README and issue tracker guidance rather than applying instructions written for an earlier build.
The voice sequence does not respond
You do not need to purchase a microphone to proceed. In PC Sound, enable Assign J / L2 + R2 for the microphone trigger, then press J or both mapped controller triggers when prompted. If you prefer voice input, check the selected microphone, operating-system permissions and input level, then try the sequence again.
macOS blocks the application
Unsigned-app protection can prevent the first launch. Use System Settings > Privacy & Security to allow the blocked application, then reopen it. If you are using an Intel Mac, also account for the project’s statement that its Intel build has not been run on Intel hardware by the developer.

How this differs from older PC recreations
Several earlier fan projects recreated P.T.’s corridors, lighting and horror atmosphere in another engine. PT-PC’s stated design is different: it reads the original game assets supplied by the player and rebuilds the runtime around them. That distinction matters when you are deciding what “play the original on PC” means.

Keeping the installation working
Recheck the project documentation when updating
Operating-system support, installer validation and optional graphics features are version-sensitive. Before replacing an installation, read the latest README and release notes, then confirm that your OS, Vulkan driver and game-data format remain supported.
Keep your game data separate from the port
PT-PC reads the files at runtime, so preserve your original dump independently of the application directory. If you install a newer build, point it to the same compatible source rather than modifying the dump to match a particular release.
Change one variable at a time
When diagnosing a problem, change only one factor—such as the graphics driver, an optional rendering feature or the input method—before testing again. This separates a Vulkan compatibility issue from a file-validation or controller problem.
What to expect from the project
PT-PC gives PC players a documented route to the original P.T. experience without pretending that the game data is freely bundled. The essential trade-off is straightforward: you get a native PC runtime and documented PC enhancements, but you must already have compatible P.T. files and hardware capable of Vulkan 1.3.
The project is unofficial, depends on its own continuing development and may change its supported packages or features. Treat the GitHub Releases page and README as the authority for the build you are installing, and follow the rules that apply where you live when obtaining or retaining game data.
