For most players, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is the simplest way to play the original Mortal Kombat arcade games at home. It is listed for Xbox, Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, and combines arcade titles with selected home versions, online play and historical extras. Choose an Arcade1Up cabinet instead if the cabinet itself and arcade-style controls matter more than convenience. The older Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection is mainly relevant to people who already use Windows PC, PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

Choose the right way to play

There are three distinct routes. They differ in software scope, hardware, controls, cost and how easy they are to obtain today.

Option What it offers Best for What to verify
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Official collection described as arcade classics plus selected home versions, with rollback-netcode online play, settings, unlocks and a documentary. Players who want a current console or PC release and a broad historical package. Your regional store, platform edition, digital or physical format, and the exact games and versions included.
Arcade1Up Mortal Kombat cabinet A dedicated home arcade machine. Listed Mortal Kombat games include Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Mortal Kombat 3 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Players who want a permanent cabinet, joystick-and-button controls and local arcade play. Current stock, price, display and control specifications, shipping timing, cabinet space and the exact software list.
Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection An older compilation with an ESRB listing for Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Existing owners of that hardware or people researching older releases. Whether a store still sells it and whether your current hardware can run it. The rating entry does not prove either.

Do not treat these as interchangeable editions of one product. Legacy Kollection is a current multi-platform collection; an Arcade1Up unit is a physical appliance; Arcade Kollection is an older software release.

Start with Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

What the collection is

Atari describes Legacy Kollection as a set of arcade classics and selected home versions. The publisher specifically associates the home versions with systems such as Super NES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear and Sega 32X, but the product page does not provide a complete per-game, per-platform matrix. That means you should not assume that every title has every listed home version, or that a particular arcade revision is present, until you read the game list for your edition.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection - Deluxe Edition - PlayStation 5
  • Multiple Iconic Editions: Experience the legendary origins of Mortal Kombat with the iconic arcade classics along with well loved home versions for Super NES and Sega Genesis. Dive deeper with rare and fan-favorite releases across Game Boy, Game Gear, Sega 32X, Game Boy Advance and more.
  • Interactive Documentary: Deep behind-the-scenes content chronicles the history of the franchise, featuring exclusive new interviews with original MK developers Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, John Vogel, and dozens more.
  • Online Play: Engage in online battles enhanced by rollback netcode— engineered to preserve the precision of every attack, even with players across vast distances.
  • The Full Story: Detailed character histories and timelines trace the epic narrative of Earthrealm, Outworld, and Edenia through the arcade era.
  • No More Secrets: At the touch of a button, unlock all secret characters, change game settings, and access the buried developer menus to play the games your way.

The collection also advertises online play using rollback netcode, game settings and unlock features, and an interactive documentary containing original developer interviews. These extras make it more than a bare emulator menu, but they do not replace checking the actual title list for the platform and edition you intend to buy.

Platforms and release timing

Atari lists Xbox, Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch storefronts. The PlayStation listing identifies PS4 and PS5 and gives an October 30, 2025 release date. The Xbox listing identifies Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, supports local and online multiplayer, and also gives October 30, 2025 as the release date. Store listings can vary by country, so open the storefront attached to your own account rather than relying on a search result from another region.

Edition and price snapshots

Atari’s product page lists three physical editions. The figures below are listing snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or shipping commitments.

Edition Listed price Availability note
Standard Edition $49.99 Confirm current price and whether the physical or digital format is being shown.
Deluxe Edition $69.99 Confirm current price, contents and regional availability.
Kollector’s Edition $149.99 The page showed “Pre-Order: Ships Dec 2026”; verify the date before ordering.

A price displayed on a publisher page may not match your local store, tax, shipping or currency. Check the final checkout total and delivery estimate.

How to buy and install it

  1. Choose the device you already use. Select Xbox, Steam, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch before comparing editions. Buying for the wrong console family is the easiest avoidable mistake.
  2. Open the regional listing. Confirm that the page names your exact system. PlayStation separates PS4 and PS5, while Xbox separates Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
  3. Read the game list and edition description. Look for the arcade titles, selected home versions and any edition-specific extras. The publisher’s general description is not a substitute for a complete title matrix.
  4. Choose digital or physical deliberately. Digital is usually the quickest route to playing on the console or PC you already own; physical editions may involve different stock and shipping dates.
  5. Install and update the game. Use your platform’s normal library or disc-install process, then apply any available update before starting online play.
  6. Configure controls before a serious match. Map buttons in the game or system settings, test local multiplayer, and only then enter an online match. This avoids discovering a layout problem after matchmaking begins.

Match the purchase to your platform

On PlayStation, confirm whether the listing covers PS4, PS5 or both and whether you are buying a disc or a download. On Xbox, check the distinction between Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S shown by the store. Steam buyers should verify that the game is being purchased for the intended PC account and that the listing they see matches their region. Switch buyers should check the Nintendo eShop listing tied to their account, since availability and edition labels can differ by country.

If you share a household console, decide which account will own a digital copy and which account will use it for multiplayer. For a physical copy, keep the disc or cartridge accessible whenever the platform requires it to launch. A cabinet avoids these storefront decisions, but it replaces them with assembly, placement and hardware-support considerations.

What the price difference does—and does not—tell you

The $49.99 Standard, $69.99 Deluxe and $149.99 Kollector’s listing prices do not, by themselves, explain every difference in software or physical contents. Use the edition description to see what is included rather than assuming the higher-priced package contains additional arcade revisions. Treat “ships Dec 2026” as a listed plan, not a guaranteed arrival date, and account for shipping, taxes and regional currency when comparing the editions with a cabinet.

Choose an Arcade1Up cabinet for a dedicated arcade setup

A cabinet is the right choice when the physical machine is part of the experience. You get a fixed arcade-style control panel rather than a controller held on a sofa, and the machine can serve as a dedicated local multiplayer station. It also requires floor or table space, assembly and a reliable place to keep it powered.

Mortal Kombat II Deluxe

The Mortal Kombat II Deluxe listing showed a $499.99 price and was marked sold out when checked. It lists a 17-inch LCD and includes Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat, along with other classic games. Because the page was out of stock, treat both the price and availability as a snapshot; do not assume a cabinet can be ordered merely because the product page remains online.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 Supreme Series

The Supreme Series listing showed $699.99 and the status “Koming Late 2026.” It lists a 19-inch display, upgraded joystick and buttons, Wi-Fi leaderboards and online multiplayer, plus the same four named Mortal Kombat games. “Late 2026” is planned timing rather than a delivered date, so verify the current shipping window before paying.

Cabinet buying checklist

  • Measure the intended location and the route through doors and stairs before ordering. The listed pages do not establish a universal cabinet dimension, so use the specification sheet for the exact model.
  • Confirm the display size and control hardware. The Deluxe page lists a 17-inch LCD; the Supreme page lists a 19-inch display and upgraded controls.
  • Verify the complete included-game list. The four Mortal Kombat games named above are listed, but the pages also refer to other classic games.
  • Check whether Wi-Fi features apply to the model you are buying. Online multiplayer and leaderboards are stated for the Supreme Series page.
  • Recheck stock, price and ship date immediately before checkout.
  • Plan assembly, power access and ventilation. Keep the cabinet where players can stand or sit comfortably without blocking walkways.

Compare the real cost of a cabinet

The listed $499.99 Deluxe and $699.99 Supreme prices are starting points for a dedicated machine, not complete ownership estimates. Confirm shipping, tax, accessories and any required assembly supplies at checkout. Also value the space permanently occupied by the cabinet and the time needed to assemble it. A console collection may cost less up front if you already own the hardware, while a cabinet’s value comes from its controls, screen and always-ready presentation.

Where the older Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection fits

The ESRB entry for Mortal Kombat: Arcade Kollection identifies Windows PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and assigns an M rating for Mature 17+ for blood and gore and violence. That entry is useful for identifying the release and its original platforms, but it does not prove that a current digital store still sells it, nor that it runs on a modern console through backward compatibility.

If you already own one of those systems, check the system’s own library or store and confirm that the game can be downloaded or installed. If you are buying new hardware solely to play it, compare that cost and effort with Legacy Kollection first; the newer collection is the straightforward current-platform route described by Atari and the major storefronts.

Understand what “original arcade games” means

Mortal Kombat has appeared in arcade form and in multiple home adaptations. A collection can therefore include an arcade version, a home port, or several revisions without presenting them as identical. Arcade controls, timing, graphics and sound can differ from a home conversion, while regional and revision differences may affect what a player remembers.

  • Uncover the complete Mortal Kombat origin story with the Legacy Kollection! This compilation delivers the arcade hits that started a revolution, the beloved SNES/Genesis versions that conquered living rooms, and a treasure trove of rare portable and console ports you may have missed.

Legacy Kollection’s publisher description confirms a mixture of arcade classics and selected home versions, including systems from the 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit eras. It does not publish a complete per-title matrix on the page covered here. Before purchase, inspect the platform listing for the exact games and versions, especially if you are looking for one specific arcade revision or a particular Super NES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear or 32X conversion.

Questions to ask if authenticity matters

  • Is the title identified as an arcade game or as a home conversion?
  • Does the listing name a revision, region or platform-specific version?
  • Are multiple versions grouped under one menu entry, or sold as separate games?
  • Does the edition description mention the home systems you remember, such as Super NES or Genesis?

Because Atari’s general page does not answer every one of these questions, use the game list attached to your exact platform and edition. Avoid buying on the assumption that a familiar title automatically means the exact cabinet revision you played decades ago.

Set up local and online play

Local multiplayer on a console or PC

  1. Connect the controllers or arcade sticks before launching the game.
  2. Open the game’s control or settings menu and assign each player’s buttons.
  3. Start a local match and test movement, blocking and attack buttons with both players.
  4. Adjust display and audio settings only after confirming that both players can see and hear the game comfortably.

Xbox’s listing explicitly identifies local multiplayer. Legacy Kollection’s product description also advertises online play with rollback netcode, while the Xbox listing identifies online multiplayer. The listings do not establish independent measurements of latency, image quality or control accuracy, so your network and display remain practical factors.

Online play

Use a wired network connection where practical, close bandwidth-heavy applications, and update the game before matchmaking. Rollback netcode is designed to handle online timing differences, but it cannot eliminate an unstable connection or poor local Wi-Fi. If matches stutter, test another network, pause downloads and compare a local match to determine whether the problem is online rather than a controller or display issue.

Cabinet play

Arcade1Up machines are designed around their built-in control panels. Confirm that the cabinet’s listed multiplayer features match your expectations: the Supreme Series page states Wi-Fi leaderboards and online multiplayer, while the Deluxe page’s cited features focus on its display and included games. Do not infer online capability for one model from another model’s listing.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Assuming every storefront has the same content

Platform pages can differ in release date, edition, language, included bonuses and stock. Fix this by opening the listing for your account’s region and reading its own description before purchase.

Assuming the collection contains every home port

“Selected home versions” is narrower than “all home versions.” Use the exact game list for your edition, and treat any unlisted port as unconfirmed.

Confusing a product page with available inventory

The Deluxe cabinet page remained visible while showing sold out, and the Supreme page showed a planned late-2026 arrival. Recheck stock and delivery at checkout.

Buying old hardware for a rating entry

An ESRB listing identifies the older Arcade Kollection’s original platforms but does not guarantee current compatibility. Confirm store support and hardware compatibility first.

Expecting review-level performance data

The cited product pages do not provide independent measurements for input latency, image scaling, display quality or control accuracy. If those factors are decisive, seek model-specific technical information before committing; do not treat the feature lists as test results.

Before you order: a final checklist

  1. Write down the exact platform you will use: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam or Switch.
  2. Open that platform’s regional store page and confirm the release, edition and purchase format.
  3. Read the complete included-game list instead of relying on the phrase “arcade classics.”
  4. Decide whether you need online play, local multiplayer, documentary material or only the games.
  5. Compare the final checkout total, including shipping, tax and currency conversion.
  6. For a cabinet, measure the room, doorway and power location and confirm the exact display and control specifications.
  7. Save screenshots or order details if a product is listed as a preorder or planned shipment.

This process prevents the most expensive errors: buying an incompatible edition, expecting an unlisted home port, or paying for a cabinet that is not currently available.

A practical decision rule

  • Choose Legacy Kollection if you already own a current Xbox, PlayStation, PC or Switch and want the lowest-friction path to a broad historical collection.
  • Choose an Arcade1Up cabinet if a permanent machine, arcade controls and local play justify the extra cost, space and setup.
  • Choose the older Arcade Kollection only when you already have compatible legacy hardware or have a specific reason to use that release.

Whichever route you choose, verify the regional listing, exact software contents, current price and availability immediately before purchase. Those checks matter more than a generic promise that a collection or cabinet includes “the classics.”

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Start with Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection on the platform you already own, then verify the exact regional game list and edition. Choose an Arcade1Up cabinet only if dedicated hardware and arcade controls justify its higher cost and space, and treat the older Arcade Kollection as a legacy-hardware option.
