For the main story, play NARUTO: Ultimate Ninja STORM, then NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2, NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst, and NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4. After the numbered games, Road to Boruto is an optional next-generation continuation. NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM CONNECTIONS is not required in that sequence: it retells selected Naruto material in condensed form and adds a separate original Boruto story.
This guide uses “Naruto games” to mean the connected Ultimate Ninja STORM story. Other Naruto titles use different continuities and are not part of this numbered order.

The official Naruto series guide describes the core as entries 1 through 4, followed by “Road to Boruto” for catching up with Boruto. That makes 1 → 2 → 3 Full Burst → 4 the straightforward route for a first playthrough.

The first STORM game is the starting point because its story material covers Naruto’s youth and the early stage of his journey. It supplies the context that later entries assume: Naruto is still at the beginning of his development, and the world and relationships that drive the Shippuden-era conflict are introduced here.

Play this entry before any game carrying the “Shippuden” subtitle if you want the narrative to unfold in chronological order. Starting later can still make the action playable, but it removes the beginning that gives the later rivalries and alliances their meaning.
Where to stop
Finish the main story of STORM 1 before moving to STORM 2. You do not need a separate recap between them. STORM 2 is the next numbered chapter rather than a retelling of the first game’s complete campaign.
2. Continue with NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 2
STORM 2 shifts into the Shippuden period and follows Naruto after his return. Its story advances from that new phase of his life toward the Akatsuki conflict, so it is the natural bridge between the early Naruto material and the war-focused games.

The change in subtitle is a useful ordering signal: once STORM 1 is complete, choose STORM 2 before either of the later entries. Skipping it means missing the transition that explains why the conflict has expanded and why the characters are confronting a different scale of threat.
Why STORM 2 comes before STORM 3
STORM 3 opens with the Fourth Great Ninja War. STORM 2 is therefore the preceding story chapter, not an optional side episode. Complete STORM 2 first if you want the war’s opening to arrive as a continuation rather than an unexplained jump.
3. Play NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 3 Full Burst
STORM 3 Full Burst begins the Fourth Great Ninja War. Its placement is fixed by that premise: it follows the Shippuden-era setup of STORM 2 and leads directly into the climax that STORM 4 resolves.

“Full Burst” identifies the edition used in the recommended sequence. If a store presents a version with that name, it is the form referenced by the official lineup for this part of the order. Do not treat the subtitle as a new story positioned outside STORM 3; it is the enhanced edition label for the third numbered entry.
What this game sets up
The war is not a self-contained detour. STORM 3 establishes the conflict that carries into STORM 4, so stopping after STORM 2 and jumping to STORM 4 would skip the beginning of the final major storyline.
4. Finish the numbered arc with NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4
STORM 4 is the conclusion of the numbered sequence. It brings the war-era narrative to Naruto and Sasuke’s fated showdown and includes a continuation after the war. For a complete mainline playthrough, this is the point at which the core story ends.
Because STORM 4 contains the culmination, it should be played after STORM 3 Full Burst even if you own a collection that makes every game available from one menu. The collection changes how you install or purchase the games; it does not change their story order.
When the numbered story is complete
Once STORM 4’s campaign is finished, you have reached the endpoint identified by the official guide as the Naruto 1–4 story. Any game played afterward is either a continuation into the next generation or an optional recap and side story.
5. Add Road to Boruto only if you want the next generation
NARUTO SHIPPUDEN: Ultimate Ninja STORM 4 Road to Boruto follows the numbered arc with a focus on Boruto and the next-generation setting. It is optional for readers who only want Naruto’s original four-game story, but it is the correct follow-up for players who want the narrative to move beyond STORM 4.

Think of Road to Boruto as an extension of the STORM 4 experience, not as a replacement for it. Complete STORM 4 first so the post-war material has the intended context. If your edition bundles the content with STORM 4, select the STORM 4 story before entering the Road to Boruto material.
Which collection or edition should you use?
The story order stays the same regardless of whether you buy individual games or a compilation. The important distinction is how much of the sequence each package contains.

Does STORM Trilogy include STORM 4?
No. The Trilogy contains only STORM 1, STORM 2 and STORM 3 Full Burst. To complete the numbered order, you must add STORM 4 separately or use a package that includes all four games.

The cited Bandai Namco listing names PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch for the Trilogy. Check the store page for your country before buying: the exact edition, storefront listing and regional availability can differ.
What does STORM Legacy solve?
Legacy is the consolidation option. The official Naruto lineup describes it as containing STORM 1–4 and Road to Boruto, so it can cover both the complete numbered route and the Boruto follow-up in one purchase when that package is offered for your platform and region.
Where STORM CONNECTIONS belongs
Connections can be confusing because it contains Naruto and Boruto material in the same product. Its Naruto content is described officially as a condensed version or selected account of Naruto and Sasuke’s rivalry from childhood through their final battle. That makes it an alternate recap of material covered across the numbered games, not STORM 5 and not a missing link between STORM 4 and Road to Boruto.

Connections also has a separate Special Story Mode built around an original Boruto-led story. Play that mode after the numbered games if you want to avoid using it as a substitute for the full chronological experience. If your priority is simply revisiting the major rivalry quickly, Connections can serve as a shorter recap before or instead of replaying the earlier campaigns, but it will not provide the same chapter-by-chapter progression.
Choose the route that matches what you already own
You are starting with no STORM games
- Buy a package containing STORM 1, 2 and 3 Full Burst, or obtain those entries individually.
- Play them in numerical order.
- Add STORM 4 to complete the Naruto story.
- Choose Road to Boruto if you want the next-generation continuation.
STORM Legacy is the simplest all-in-one route when it is available for your system and region.
You own STORM Trilogy
- Play STORM 1, STORM 2 and STORM 3 Full Burst from the Trilogy.
- Purchase or install STORM 4 next.
- After finishing STORM 4, decide whether to continue with Road to Boruto.
Do not buy Trilogy expecting the fourth game; it stops after the third entry.
You only want Naruto’s main story
Stop after STORM 4. Road to Boruto and Connections are additions rather than requirements for the numbered conclusion.
You want a recap and a new Boruto story
Connections is the optional choice. Its condensed Naruto account can refresh the rivalry, while its Special Story Mode supplies an original Boruto-led scenario. It is a different experience from playing all four numbered campaigns in order.

Before committing to a collection or digital listing, verify these details:

- Game count: confirm whether the package contains three games, four games, or the Road to Boruto continuation.
- Edition name: make sure the third entry is STORM 3 Full Burst if that is the version you intend to play.
- Platform: match the product listing to your console or PC. A package available on one system may not be offered on another.
- Region: check your local storefront because availability and edition names can vary by country.
- Included content: read whether Road to Boruto is bundled, sold separately or unavailable for that listing.
- Story mode selection: when a bundle contains several games, launch the lowest-numbered entry first rather than choosing by release menu order.
These checks matter more than the package label. “Trilogy,” “Legacy” and “Connections” represent different amounts and types of story content, so the name alone does not tell you where the package fits in the chronology.
Common ordering mistakes
Starting with Connections because it contains the whole rivalry
Connections summarizes selected Naruto history, but a summary is not the same as the complete progression of STORM 1–4. Use it as a recap or optional side-story package unless your goal is specifically a condensed retelling.
Assuming Trilogy is the complete series
Trilogy ends with STORM 3 Full Burst. The numbered conclusion remains in STORM 4, so plan for that additional game or choose a package that explicitly includes all four.
Playing Road to Boruto before STORM 4
Road to Boruto is the next-generation follow-up. Entering it first reverses the intended progression and removes the context supplied by STORM 4’s post-war conclusion.
Treating every package as interchangeable
A collection can combine the first three games, all four numbered entries, or the Boruto continuation. Compare its stated contents rather than assuming that every STORM-branded bundle covers the same timeline.
The practical answer
For the full chronological STORM experience, begin with STORM 1, continue through STORM 2 and STORM 3 Full Burst, and finish with STORM 4. Add Road to Boruto afterward for the next-generation chapter. Choose Connections only when you want its condensed Naruto recap or its separate original Boruto story.
