You can play PlayStation games on a PC without a PS5 emulator in three supported ways: buy a game’s separate native PC edition, stream a game from your own PS5 or PS4 with PS Remote Play, or stream an eligible title through the PlayStation Plus PC app. These routes are not interchangeable. A console purchase does not unlock a PC copy, Remote Play requires your console to run the game, and PlayStation Plus streaming covers only the titles and regions Sony makes eligible.
Choose the route based on the specific game, whether you own a console, your willingness to buy a second copy or pay for a membership, and the quality of your internet connection.
The three ways to play PlayStation games on a PC

Neither route provides universal access to the PlayStation catalog. Check the individual game before spending money or changing your setup.

Method 1: Buy the game’s native PC version
A native PC edition is a separately published version designed to run on Windows. PlayStation’s official PC games catalog lists current PlayStation Studios PC releases and links each displayed title to its Steam or Epic Games Store listing. The catalog includes titles such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, but its contents are title-specific rather than a promise that every console game is available on PC.

How to check whether your game has a PC release
- Open PlayStation’s current PC games catalog.
- Search for the exact game name and edition. Remastered, expanded, multiplayer, and original editions can have different listings.
- Follow the catalog’s Steam or Epic Games Store listing for that title.
- Read the product page for operating-system requirements, account requirements, multiplayer conditions, and controller notes before buying.
- Install the game through the storefront you used and launch it from that PC library.
Do not infer availability from a console announcement, a trailer, or another game in the same series. A title appears on PC only when Sony or the relevant storefront lists a PC edition.
Console and PC purchases are separate
Sony’s PlayStation PC FAQ states: “Yes, the PC and console versions of PlayStation Studios games are different products.” In practical terms, buying the PS4 or PS5 edition does not provide the PC edition, and buying the PC edition does not provide the console edition. Budget for the version you intend to use.
Save data also cannot currently transfer between the PC and console editions of a PlayStation Studios title, according to Sony’s FAQ. Treat the PC installation as a separate game environment rather than assuming your console progress will appear automatically.

PlayStation Studios PC games generally do not require a PlayStation Network account, although selected titles do. Check the individual product details instead of assuming one rule applies to every release. A Steam account is needed to redeem a voucher code for a PC game bought directly through PlayStation.
Using a DualSense controller on PC
Sony supports wired DualSense use with PlayStation Studios PC games. Wireless connectivity and DualSense-specific functions vary by title, so a wired connection is the dependable baseline. Do not assume that adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, headset features, or other console functions will work in every PC edition.
When this is the best option
- Choose a native PC edition when the game is officially listed for PC and you want the game to run locally rather than depend on a console stream.
- It is also the clearest choice when you do not own a PS4 or PS5.
- Expect a separate purchase and separate saves from your console version.
Method 2: Use PS Remote Play with your PS5 or PS4
Remote Play does not turn the PC into a PlayStation console and does not emulate one. The game runs on your PS5 or PS4; the PC receives the console’s video and audio stream and sends your controller input back over the network. Sony describes it as using the PS Remote Play app to control a PS5 or PS4 from a Windows PC or Mac connected to a high-speed network.

Remote Play requirements
- An updated PS5 or PS4 with the game installed or otherwise available to play on that console.
- The same PlayStation account signed in on the console and in the Remote Play app.
- The PS Remote Play app for a supported Windows or Mac system. Sony supports Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11, along with Mac systems listed on its support page.
- A compatible controller. Sony identifies DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 as supported Remote Play controllers.
- A USB cable for connecting the controller during setup or use.
- A high-speed internet connection. Sony lists 5 Mbps upload and download as the minimum baseline and recommends at least 15 Mbps in both directions for the best performance.
Those bandwidth figures are requirements and recommendations, not a guarantee of a particular resolution, frame rate, or input delay. Wi-Fi interference, congestion, distance from the router, and other traffic can still affect play.
Remote Play setup
- Update the PS5 or PS4 and make sure the console is connected to the internet.
- Enable Remote Play in the console’s system settings.
- Install the PS Remote Play app on the Windows PC or Mac.
- Sign in to the app with the same PlayStation account used on the console.
- Connect a DualSense, DualSense Edge, or DUALSHOCK 4 controller with a USB cable.
- Start the connection from the app and select the PS5 or PS4 that contains the game.
- Use the app’s video-quality settings to choose an available resolution and frame-rate option that your network can sustain.
If the app cannot find the console, confirm that both devices use the same account, the console is powered or configured for the supported remote connection state, and the network is working. The exact settings and menus can change with system software, so use Sony’s current Remote Play instructions for the labels shown on your console.
What Remote Play can and cannot do
- It lets you play games that are running on your own PS5 or PS4 from another room or another location supported by your network.
- It does not create a PC license. If you do not own or have access to the game on the console, Remote Play cannot supply it.
- The PC does not receive a native installation. Closing the console, losing the network path, or degrading the connection interrupts the session.
- Performance depends on the entire network path, not only the PC’s hardware.
How to improve a poor Remote Play session
- Measure upload and download performance at the console and PC locations. The minimum is 5 Mbps in both directions; aiming for Sony’s 15 Mbps recommendation gives more headroom.
- Use a wired network connection where practical, especially for the console or the PC that is connected by Wi-Fi.
- Stop large downloads, cloud backups, video streams, and other traffic while playing.
- Lower the Remote Play resolution or frame-rate setting when the stream stutters.
- Use the USB controller connection if wireless input is unreliable.
Method 3: Stream eligible games with PlayStation Plus on PC
The PlayStation Plus PC app is a subscription streaming route. It streams games that Sony has made eligible for the service in your region; it does not stream every game in the PlayStation catalog and does not use your personal PS5 or PS4 as the host.
Requirements for PlayStation Plus streaming
- An adult PlayStation account.
- A PlayStation Plus membership that includes the applicable streaming catalog.
- A compatible controller.
- Broadband internet with at least 5 Mbps. Sony recommends a wired connection.
- The current PlayStation Plus PC app and a supported Windows installation.
Sony’s US support page lists Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 and modest app requirements, but software support can change. Check the current support page for your region before installing, particularly if you use Windows 11 or a non-US account.
How to start a streaming session
- Confirm that PlayStation Plus PC streaming is offered in your country or region.
- Check that the game appears in the local PlayStation Plus streaming catalog before subscribing specifically for it.
- Install the current PlayStation Plus PC app from Sony.
- Sign in with an adult PlayStation account that has the required membership.
- Connect a compatible controller. Sony lists DUALSHOCK 4 support; some third-party XInput PC controllers may work, but full compatibility is not guaranteed.
- Search the catalog, select the eligible game, and start streaming.
Important catalog and feature limits
- Catalog contents and service availability are region-specific and change over time. Verify the individual title in your local app.
- A game’s presence on console, in a trailer, or in another country’s catalog does not establish that it can stream on your PC.
- Add-ons and downloadable content cannot be used while streaming through the PC app, according to Sony’s support information.
- Party Chat is not supported in the PC app.
- A subscription does not grant a permanent PC installation or guarantee that a game will remain in the catalog.
When this is the best option
Use PlayStation Plus streaming when you do not own the required console, the exact game is listed in your local streaming catalog, and your broadband connection can sustain a streamed session. It can be a practical way to try eligible games without purchasing each one separately, but it is the least predictable route for a particular title because catalogs and regional availability change.
Which method should you choose?
You do not own a PS5 or PS4
First check for a native PC edition. If none exists, check whether the title is available through PlayStation Plus streaming in your region. Remote Play is not an option without access to a PS5 or PS4 that can run the game.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
You own the game on PS5 or PS4
Remote Play is the direct way to use that console purchase on a PC. It streams the game from your console, so you do not buy a second copy. If you prefer local PC performance and the game has an official PC edition, compare the separate PC purchase with the convenience of using Remote Play.
You want the best local-PC experience
Buy the native PC edition when one is listed. The game then runs on the PC rather than being limited by stream quality and network latency. Confirm the PC requirements and remember that console saves do not currently transfer to the PC edition.
You want to avoid buying another copy
Use Remote Play if you already own the console and game. A PlayStation Plus membership is a different arrangement: it provides streaming access only to eligible catalog games and requires an ongoing membership.

Prefer a native PC edition. Both Remote Play and PlayStation Plus streaming depend on broadband performance. Sony’s minimum for PlayStation Plus streaming is 5 Mbps, while Remote Play recommends 15 Mbps upload and download for best performance; neither figure guarantees smooth play on a congested or unstable network.

Assuming every PlayStation game has a PC version
PlayStation’s PC catalog is a list of current releases, not the entire console library. Search for the exact game and verify the current Steam or Epic listing.
Expecting a console purchase to unlock PC access
PC and console editions are separate products. Check the edition name and platform before paying.

Calling Remote Play a PC port
Remote Play is a stream from your own console. The console must be available, signed in, connected, and able to run the game.

The PC app streams only eligible titles in the local catalog. Check the game in your region before relying on this method.
Expecting all controller features to work
Wired DualSense support for native PC games is established, but wireless operation and advanced features vary by title. Remote Play supports DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4. PlayStation Plus PC streaming lists DUALSHOCK 4 and says some third-party XInput controllers may work without guaranteeing full compatibility.
Planning to use console DLC in the PC streaming app
Sony says add-ons and DLC cannot be used while streaming through the PlayStation Plus PC app. Check this limitation before purchasing extra content for a streamed session.
A quick decision checklist
- Identify the exact game and edition you want.
- Check PlayStation’s current PC catalog and the linked Steam or Epic listing.
- If no PC edition is listed, decide whether you own or can access a PS5 or PS4 that runs the game.
- If you do, use Remote Play and verify the same-account, controller, USB cable, app, and network requirements.
- If you do not, check the PlayStation Plus PC catalog for your country and confirm that the individual game is streamable.
- Choose a native PC purchase for local play, Remote Play for access to your existing console library, or PlayStation Plus streaming for eligible subscription titles.
What is not established
Current official listings do not establish that every future PlayStation console game will come to PC, nor do they establish a blanket policy that future games will never come to PC. Availability remains title-specific. Check the official catalog and announcements for the game you want rather than relying on rumors or assumptions.
Likewise, the PlayStation Plus requirements cited by Sony’s US support page should not be generalized to every country. App availability, plan eligibility, catalog contents, and technical requirements can differ by region and change over time.
Bottom line
There is no need for a PS5 emulator. Buy an official PC edition when it exists, use Remote Play when your own PS5 or PS4 already runs the game, or use PlayStation Plus PC streaming when the title is eligible in your region. Verify the game first, because ownership, catalog access, saves, DLC, controller features, and network requirements differ between the three methods.
