To play Palworld 1.0, update the game to the current build, create or load a world, then work through its survival loop: gather materials, craft equipment, build a base, capture Pals, assign them to combat and work, and explore for resources and fast-travel points. Returning players should first inspect the 1.0 map additions—Sunreach, the World Tree, Ancient Ruins, Watchtowers, seven small islands and new settlements—before testing the new Awakening and Mutation systems on a freshly reviewed Pal team.

Palworld left early access in July 2026. The Steam listing records July 9, 2026 as the release date, while Pocketpair’s release changelog is dated July 10, 2026. The update adds 72 Pals, bringing the roster to 287, and changes progression, Pal balance, base building, multiplayer and graphics.

What Palworld 1.0 is

Palworld is an open-world survival, creature-collection, crafting and multiplayer game. You collect creatures called Pals, use them in combat, and assign suitable Pals to jobs around your base. The normal loop is deliberately circular: exploration produces materials and encounters; materials unlock better tools, equipment and construction; a stronger base and Pal team let you enter more dangerous areas; those areas provide new resources, Pals and objectives.

Version 1.0 is the full release rather than another early-access milestone. Pocketpair announced it with the message, “Pal Tamers, the time has come. Today, Palworld exits early access. Palworld 1.0 is here!” The release retains single-player and online co-op while adding cross-platform multiplayer across the currently released platforms.

#1 Best Overall

Before you start

Update every installation

Install the latest available Palworld build on your platform before creating a world or joining a friend. A version mismatch is one of the simplest causes of failed multiplayer connections, and it can also hide 1.0 content from a returning save. Let the platform finish downloading the update rather than launching an older executable from a shortcut or suspended session.

Choose a platform and game mode

The Steam listing identifies single-player, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. Pocketpair’s cross-play announcement includes Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Mac among the currently released platforms. Select single-player if you want the world and its progress to be entirely yours. Select online co-op when you want companions to join a host’s world and share its activities.

Decide who will host co-op

In a normal co-op session, one player should be the clear world host. That person needs to be available when the group wants to play, because everyone’s progress is tied to the host’s world rather than being automatically combined into each player’s separate save. Agree on the host, world name and basic base responsibilities before the first session.

How to begin a new 1.0 world

1. Create the world and learn the survival loop

  1. Create a world. Start a new save and choose the world settings offered by your current build. If several people will play, create it on the account that will host most sessions.
  2. Gather immediately. Pick up nearby materials and collect enough basic resources to make your first tools. Do not travel deep into an unfamiliar region before you can replace worn equipment.
  3. Craft tools and equipment. Use the early crafting options to make the tools, weapons and survival items available to your character. Crafting is not a side activity: it is the gate to harvesting faster, fighting safely and building a functioning base.
  4. Build a safe base. Place your first base where you have room to construct, nearby resources to harvest and a defensible approach. Keep essential crafting and storage facilities accessible rather than spreading them across a large area immediately.
  5. Capture your first Pals. Catch several Pals instead of relying on one. A small team gives you combat choices and lets you begin assigning work at the base.
  6. Explore outward. Use short trips to learn the surrounding terrain, locate resources and activate fast-travel access when you find it. Return to the base before your supplies or equipment become a liability.

2. Build a balanced starter team

Your first useful team does not need to contain the rarest Pals. Select creatures that cover different jobs: at least one dependable combat option, one Pal that can help with the work your base currently needs, and additional options for gathering or travel as they become available. Early on, versatility is more valuable than optimizing a final roster.

Read each captured Pal’s available abilities and work roles. A Pal that performs well in a fight may not be the best worker, and a base specialist may be less suitable for a dangerous expedition. Rotate your party as the destination changes instead of treating the first team as permanent.

3. Make the base your progression anchor

A base should reduce the time spent repeating low-level chores. Put storage near your crafting stations, keep a clear route through the work area and leave space for later construction. Assign Pals to jobs they can actually perform, then check the base after returning from an expedition so you can collect produced materials, repair your equipment and prepare the next trip.

Do not overextend the first base. A compact, organized layout is easier to defend and upgrade than a sprawling settlement built before you understand the local terrain. Once your team and supplies are stable, you can use 1.0’s expanded building options to redesign rather than constantly patching an unsafe starter camp.

4. Treat exploration as a resource run

Every early expedition should have a purpose. You might be looking for a material, a new Pal, a better route, a fast-travel point or a map objective. Carry only what you can protect, mark the route back to safety in your own notes or map habits, and return when your health, equipment or inventory makes a second attempt more sensible than a risky push.

What returning players should do first

Load the old save, then audit it

A 1.0 save should not be approached as if your pre-release team rankings are still authoritative. The update rebalances Pal statistics and abilities, adds 72 Pals and introduces new progression systems. Inspect your active party, stored Pals, equipment and base assignments before committing to a difficult expedition.

  • Review each active Pal’s current statistics and abilities.
  • Check whether the roles assigned at your bases still match the work you need.
  • Replace a narrowly specialized team with a flexible group while you learn the new balance.
  • Confirm that your base has usable storage, crafting access and room for 1.0 building changes.
  • Prepare supplies for exploration instead of immediately pursuing the most dangerous new objective.

Use a three-stage return route

  1. Stabilize. Secure your base, repair or replace equipment and assemble a team with distinct combat and work roles.
  2. Survey. Visit the new map objectives and use Watchtowers to improve your knowledge of the surrounding areas.
  3. Experiment. Once you understand the new encounters and have suitable candidates, test Awakening and Mutation on Pals that fit your preferred combat or work role.

This order keeps experimentation from interrupting basic preparation. Awakening and Mutation are most useful when you can compare a candidate’s role, abilities and current performance rather than applying them blindly to an unfamiliar team.

1.0 locations and what each one is for

The new map content is not one giant checklist. Each location supports a different reason to travel, so choose the destination that matches your current need.

Location or feature Why visit What to expect
Sunreach Explore the new floating-island region and follow the 1.0 story thread. New terrain, encounters and a distinct destination beyond the original map.
The World Tree Investigate the heart of the 1.0 story. A major story-focused objective rather than a routine resource stop.
Ancient Ruins Search for exploration rewards and schematics. Ruins include exploration challenges and minigames, so allow time to solve objectives instead of only fighting.
Watchtowers Reveal nearby map information and provide fast-travel points. They are valuable navigation targets, especially when opening routes between distant objectives.
Seven new small islands Find location-specific Pals and explore volcano, desert and ruins biomes. Each island has its own environmental identity and local creature availability.
New settlements Meet NPCs and pick up sub-missions. Settlements appear in the Bamboo Groves, Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima and Sunreach.
Enemy bases at sea Take on a new combat and approach problem. Expect an encounter built around an offshore enemy position rather than a standard land route.
Reworked Wildlife Sanctuaries Revisit sanctuary exploration and creature-hunting opportunities. The sanctuary system has been changed for 1.0, so old expectations about its layout or rewards may no longer apply.

Sunreach and the World Tree

Make Sunreach a priority when you want to see the content most closely associated with the 1.0 narrative. The World Tree is described as the heart of that story, so treat it as a destination for a prepared expedition rather than a casual first walk from a starter base. Bring a team you have already reviewed, enough equipment for an extended journey and a return route through activated travel points.

Ancient Ruins

Ancient Ruins reward a slower style of play. Explore the area, look for minigames and pursue schematics rather than rushing from one enemy to the next. If your goal is equipment progression or discovering new ways to build and craft, ruins are a better target than a generic resource circuit.

Watchtowers

Watchtowers combine map discovery with travel utility. Activate them when you can do so safely, then use the newly revealed surroundings to plan subsequent resource, settlement and island trips. A tower is especially useful for a returning player whose old map knowledge no longer reflects every 1.0 destination.

The seven small islands

Visit the islands when you are looking for Pals that do not appear in your familiar routes. The seven additions span volcano, desert and ruins biomes, so prepare for the environmental conditions and combat demands of the specific island rather than assuming all seven are equivalent. Their location-specific Pals make targeted island trips more efficient than random roaming when you are filling gaps in a team or collection.

Settlements, sea bases and sanctuaries

New settlements in the Bamboo Groves, Snowy Mountains, Sakurajima and Sunreach add NPCs and sub-missions. Include them in a route when you want objectives beyond combat or resource gathering. Enemy bases at sea add a different approach to combat, while the reworked Wildlife Sanctuary system is a reason for experienced players to revisit sanctuaries instead of relying on an old route or remembered reward pattern.

Awakening and Mutation

Awakening and Mutation are two of 1.0’s headline progression systems. The update introduces them alongside broader Pal-statistic and ability rebalancing, so they should be treated as systems for developing a considered roster rather than emergency buttons for a weak first capture.

Choose candidates deliberately

Start with a Pal whose role you understand. Decide whether the candidate is intended for frontline combat, a particular work assignment or a flexible party slot. Record how it performs before changing it: its useful abilities, weaknesses, travel value and contribution at the base. That baseline makes it easier to judge whether an Awakening or Mutation experiment improves the role you actually need.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Test one role at a time

Do not change every member of a returning team simultaneously. Work through one candidate, use it in the activity for which it was prepared, and then decide whether the result supports your plan. This staged approach is practical because 1.0 changes the surrounding balance as well as adding the systems themselves.

Match experimentation to your objective

  • Combat objective: choose a Pal whose abilities and current statistics already fit the fights you intend to tackle.
  • Base objective: select a reliable worker whose assignment is important enough for a controlled test.
  • Collection objective: use a candidate that fills a missing role or gives you a reason to visit one of the new biomes or islands.

The update confirms the existence and importance of Awakening and Mutation, but it does not make one universal build mandatory. Your preferred combat style, base layout and available roster should determine which candidates you develop first.

Managing the expanded Pal roster

Version 1.0 adds 72 new Pals, bringing the total roster to 287. That is large enough that a returning player should stop using a simple “old favorite versus new capture” rule. Compare creatures by the job you need filled, the abilities they currently have and where you can obtain them.

Build teams by function

Keep separate mental or storage categories for expedition combat, base work and exploration. A combat party needs survivability and complementary abilities. A work group should cover the tasks your base performs most often. An exploration group benefits from mobility and the ability to handle unfamiliar biomes. The same Pal can appear in more than one plan, but do not remove a critical base worker just because it is strong in a fight.

Recheck old assumptions

Because Pal statistics and abilities were rebalanced, a pre-1.0 ranking may be a poor guide to current performance. Test familiar Pals in the jobs you care about, compare them with new captures from the added islands and biomes, and keep the option that solves your present bottleneck. The practical goal is not to own every new Pal immediately; it is to understand which additions improve your current team.

Base building and graphics changes

1.0 overhauls base building and graphics in addition to map and Pal content. Returning players should expect their existing construction habits and visual impressions to need a short adjustment period. Inspect the base in daylight and during normal work activity, then rebuild the parts that create congestion, unsafe routes or unnecessary travel between storage and crafting.

Use the new building possibilities to support the way you play rather than decorating before the base works. Keep high-use stations together, preserve paths for assigned Pals and leave expansion room. A practical redesign can be small: moving storage closer to crafting, separating work areas, or opening a clear route to the base entrance may matter more than replacing every structure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The graphics overhaul can make new areas and older routes look different. Relearn landmarks while activating Watchtowers, and do not assume that a familiar visual cue is the fastest way to a destination after the update.

How to play Palworld 1.0 in multiplayer

Set up the group

  1. Update everyone. Each player should be running the current build before attempting to join.
  2. Choose the host. The host creates or loads the world and is responsible for making it available when the group wants to play.
  3. Confirm platform compatibility. Cross-play is available across currently released platforms, including Steam, Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Mac, but platform-specific connection rules can change.
  4. Join the host’s world. Use the current in-game multiplayer flow for the host platform and accept the invitation or join request from the other players.
  5. Agree on roles. Decide who gathers, who maintains the base, who scouts and who handles combat so the group does not duplicate one job while ignoring another.

Coordinate the first session

Multiplayer is smoother when the party establishes one shared base plan. Decide where the group will build, which materials are needed first and which player will manage storage. Give each person a clear Pal role, but rotate responsibilities as the team learns the map. A player who specializes in construction can still join a combat expedition; the point is to avoid four people independently collecting the same low-level material while no one prepares equipment.

Use cross-play without assuming identical rules

Cross-play means players on the supported released platforms can play together; it does not guarantee that every platform exposes identical menus, invitations or server behavior. If a connection fails, verify updates first, confirm that the host is online, restart the multiplayer session and consult the current in-game or platform documentation for that platform. Do not solve a menu difference by repeatedly changing world settings when the underlying problem may simply be a version mismatch.

A practical 1.0 progression route

If you want a single route rather than a collection of tips, use this sequence and adapt it to your equipment and Pal team:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Start or load a world. Finish the opening gathering and crafting steps before making a long trip.
  2. Establish a compact base. Provide storage, crafting access and enough room for assigned Pals to work.
  3. Capture a functional team. Cover combat and the jobs your base needs most.
  4. Activate nearby travel access. Explore locally and make Watchtowers a priority when you can reach them safely.
  5. Survey new content. Choose an objective: Ancient Ruins for exploration and schematics, a settlement for NPC sub-missions, an island for location-specific Pals, or Sunreach for the 1.0 story.
  6. Reassess after each expedition. Update equipment, base assignments and team roles instead of carrying a failing setup into a harder area.
  7. Prepare for the World Tree. Treat the story-focused destination as a deliberate expedition after you have learned the surrounding map.
  8. Experiment with Awakening and Mutation. Apply them to candidates whose combat or work roles are clear, then test the results in the activity they are meant to improve.
  9. Return to overlooked systems. Revisit Wildlife Sanctuaries, new settlements and enemy bases at sea after your main route exposes which rewards or challenges you still need.

Common problems and practical fixes

The update appears not to be installed

Check the platform’s download queue and the game’s displayed version, then fully close and relaunch the client. A suspended application can continue running an older build until it is restarted. If a friend can see 1.0 content but you cannot, compare versions before changing any world or save settings.

A returning team performs worse

Assume the balance changed before assuming the save is damaged. Review Pal statistics and abilities, test a different role combination and compare old favorites with captures from the new islands and biomes. The 1.0 update specifically rebalances Pal statistics and abilities, so an old ranking is not a reliable diagnosis.

You cannot find a new destination

Use Watchtowers to reveal surrounding map information and establish fast-travel access. The seven small islands, Sunreach and new settlements are easier to approach when you treat discovery as a route-planning task rather than wandering from the original starting area.

The party cannot connect

Have every player update, verify the selected host and restart the multiplayer session. Confirm that the host’s world is available and that each player is using the current cross-play path for their platform. If the failure persists, check current platform or in-game multiplayer documentation because connection rules can change independently of the core game update.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The base feels chaotic after returning

Pause expansion and reorganize the essentials: storage, crafting access, work routes and Pal assignments. Build a compact functioning layout first, then use the 1.0 building changes to expand. Rebuilding the most congested area is usually more useful than adding more structures to an already confusing plan.

What makes a successful 1.0 session

A good session has a clear objective and a safe return plan. New players should focus on the repeatable survival loop until their base and team are dependable. Returning players should spend their first session auditing old assumptions, locating 1.0 objectives and learning how the expanded roster and new progression systems fit their preferred style.

The most efficient order is therefore practical rather than purely chronological: stabilize your base, build a versatile team, unlock travel knowledge, choose a destination that answers your current need, and only then invest heavily in Awakening or Mutation. That approach lets the 1.0 additions expand what you can do without making the game’s core survival loop harder to manage.
