Godlike.Host offers hosted Assetto Corsa servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To play Assetto Corsa online, install the PC version through Steam, open the game’s multiplayer server browser, and join a server whose car, track, and version requirements match your installation. To host, create a configuration in Content Manager, use its Pack function to export the server files, then run those files from the Assetto Corsa server folder or a separate dedicated directory. Internet hosting additionally requires firewall and router/NAT access; AssettoServer adds optional Steam-account authentication with specific Content Shaders Patch and Content Manager versions.
What you need before playing online
Assetto Corsa multiplayer on PC is built around the Steam version of the game. Steam lists broadband internet and either a keyboard or gamepad as required input and connectivity. A wheel is optional, although it can make driving easier; it is not required to connect to a server.

The figures below are the requirements Steam publishes for Assetto Corsa. They come from the 2015 listing (accessed in 2026), so treat them as a baseline for the unmodified game rather than a promise that every heavily modded server will perform well.
| Category | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHz or Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz | Six-core AMD or quad-core Intel processor |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM | 6 GB RAM |
| Graphics API | DirectX 10.1 graphics | DirectX 11 graphics |
| Storage | 15 GB | 30 GB |
| Internet and input | Broadband internet; keyboard or gamepad | |
Mods, high-resolution cars and tracks, large grids, and server-side add-ons can raise practical CPU, memory, graphics, and storage needs. If a system only meets the minimum, first test with the game’s original content before troubleshooting a modded server.

How to join an Assetto Corsa multiplayer server
Joining is the simplest way to get online. You do not need to run a server, and you do not need Content Manager or Custom Shaders Patch merely to enter an ordinary server. Those tools can be useful for modded communities, but the base game’s browser is sufficient for standard sessions.
- Install and update the Steam game. Start Assetto Corsa once in single-player so Steam finishes installation and creates the normal game folders.
- Open the multiplayer server browser. Launch the game and choose its multiplayer/online server-browser option.
- Search or filter. Use the browser’s name, track, session, or other available filters to narrow the list. A private group may give you a distinctive server name to search for.
- Read the server requirements. Check the listed car, track, version, and any mod requirements before connecting. A server using custom content can reject a player whose files are missing or do not match.
- Install required content from trusted instructions. Obtain cars and tracks from the server operator’s documented, trusted source. Do not assume that a similarly named download is the correct version.
- Join the session. Select the server and connect. The game may take longer to load a custom track or car than an original-content server.
Why a server rejects a connection
- Missing car or track: install the exact item named by the operator, including any required dependencies.
- Version mismatch: replace an outdated mod with the server’s stated release; having a file with the right name is not enough if its contents differ.
- Wrong game branch or update: let Steam complete updates and verify that your client is running the same current game version expected by the community.
- Server no longer available: refresh the browser and confirm the operator has left the machine running and reachable.
For a first test, join a server using only original Assetto Corsa content. That separates a basic connection problem from a mod-content problem.

No for a basic multiplayer session. The standard game and its multiplayer browser are enough to join a compatible server. Content Manager becomes particularly useful when you are creating or packing a server configuration, and some AssettoServer authentication features have explicit Content Manager and Custom Shaders Patch version requirements.
Do not install Custom Shaders Patch solely because a guide mentions multiplayer. It is relevant to the AssettoServer Steam-authentication workflow described below, not a blanket prerequisite for every server or client.

How to host a server with Content Manager
For a first-time host, Content Manager is the quickest route because it can assemble the configuration and package the files for you. The labels can change between Content Manager releases, but the workflow is consistent: build a server configuration, save it, use Pack, extract the resulting package, and start the server executable.
Step 1: Build and save the configuration
- Open Content Manager and go to its server-configuration area.
- Select the cars and track you want to host. Add only content that every intended player can obtain.
- Set the session details offered by the configuration, such as the practice, qualifying, and race arrangement available in your chosen build.
- Save the configuration and test it locally before inviting people. A short test with original content makes later mod troubleshooting much easier.
Step 2: Pack the server files
Use Content Manager’s Pack command on the saved configuration. The command exports the configuration and the data files needed by the server into an archive. Keep the archive as a portable backup; it is also a convenient way to reproduce the same setup on another Windows machine.
Step 3: Extract into the server root
Extract the package into the Assetto Corsa server root. The usual Windows location is the game’s server directory under the Steam installation. Preserve the folder structure created by the package rather than placing all files into an extra nested directory. Confirm that the server executable and its configuration files are together in the folder from which you intend to run them.
Step 4: Start and test
- Run the server executable from the extracted folder.
- Watch its console output for configuration or content errors.
- From the same computer, check whether the server appears in the multiplayer browser or can be reached on the local network.
- Only after a local test succeeds should you configure internet access and invite remote players.
Running the configuration inside Content Manager is convenient for getting started. Moving the packed files to a separate directory later gives you a cleaner, more portable installation and lets an advanced operator manage backups and updates independently of the launcher.

- Assetto Corsa Competizione is designed to faithfully recreate the performance and the driving experience of real Blancpain GT Series cars through a sophisticated mathematical model that accurately replicates tyre grip, aerodynamic impact, engine parameters, suspensions and electronics systems that determine vehicle balance, as well as the influence of mechanical damage on the car's drivability.
- Unreal Engine 4 guarantees photorealistic rendering and an accurate representation of scenarios, car materials and weather conditions. Thanks to the multi-channel audio sampling of real GT cars, the game conveys captivating and immersive acoustic surroundings and realistic environmental effects.
- Even the secondary details are faithfully reproduced to make you feel the thrill of being in the cockpit of a real racing car. Doors, windshield wipers, headlights, racing lights, racing equipment and control devices such as ABS, traction control, engine ignition and ECU mapping, are all under the driver’s management to assure the best performance and offer the player total control of the car.
- Thanks to Laserscan technology, every official circuit is recreated with the utmost accuracy: all curbs and details perfectly fit their real counterparts to grant a gaming experience as faithful to reality as possible.
- A well-structured ranking system will evaluate individual performance and driving behaviour to reward the most virtuous drivers and promote fair play in online competitions. The matchmaking function makes sure that you can compete with opponents of similar skill level and easily find online races to join, while the leaderboards will allow you to compare single-lap performance with virtual pilots from around the world with the same car, circuit and weather conditions.
Hosting from a dedicated folder
A dedicated folder is the better choice when you want portability, repeatable deployments, or more manual control. Use the Pack archive from Content Manager as the initial, known-good configuration, then keep that package and its extracted files in a directory you manage separately from the interactive game installation.
A practical dedicated-folder workflow
- Create a clearly named server directory and restrict write access to the people who maintain it.
- Extract the packed configuration into that directory, keeping the generated structure intact.
- Store dated backups of the configuration and any custom content list before making changes.
- Start the server executable from this directory and record any paths or settings it reports.
- Update one component at a time, testing the server after each change so a faulty car, track, or setting can be identified.
The dedicated-folder method does not remove the need for matching client content or network access; it simply gives the host more control over where the server lives and how it is maintained.
Using AssettoServer instead of the default server
AssettoServer is an alternative server implementation. Its documentation recommends creating the configuration with Content Manager and clicking Pack, then extracting the archive into the server root. When using AssettoServer, the documented procedure replaces the default acServer.exe with AssettoServer’s executable. Keep a backup of the original executable so you can restore the default implementation or diagnose a problem without rebuilding the entire installation.
AssettoServer is especially relevant if you want Steam-based identity checks. The default Assetto Corsa server does not use the Steam API to verify that a connected player is the account they claim to be. AssettoServer can use Steam Auth to prevent SteamID spoofing, but that feature is optional and has additional requirements.

- As with its predecessor, Assetto Corsa EVO will include cars from different classes spanning across years of motoring history. From road cars, classics, hypercars, and race cars. The most iconic representation of the automotive and motorsport world. Each vehicle is reproduced through Kunos in-house physics and graphic engine simulating mechanical, electronic, and aerodynamic performance, combined with the fidelity of the circuits created using Laserscan technology
- In Early Access 1 you will be able to experience a range of vehicles, tracks and game modes that will evolve on the road to our full 1.0 launch.
Steam authentication requirements for AssettoServer
To obtain and validate a Steam session ticket in the documented AssettoServer workflow, clients need Custom Shaders Patch 0.1.75 or newer and Content Manager 0.8.2297.38573 or newer. The host must also enable Steam Auth in extra_cfg.yml.

A server can run correctly on the host computer and still be invisible to friends on the internet. Windows firewall rules and the router’s NAT configuration determine whether remote traffic can reach the server. Exact port numbers depend on the server implementation and your configuration; there is no single current port list that is safe to apply to every setup.
Firewall checklist
- Allow the server executable through the operating-system firewall on the network profile you are using.
- If prompted during the first launch, allow the application rather than blocking it and assuming the browser is at fault.
- After changing the executable, review the rule again; an alternative server executable may need its own permission.
Router and NAT checklist
- Open the server’s generated configuration and documentation to identify the ports it actually uses.
- Give the host computer a stable local address, preferably through a DHCP reservation, so forwarding does not break after a reboot.
- Forward the configured server traffic from the router to that local address. Do not substitute a port from an unrelated guide or implementation.
- Restart the server and test from a different internet connection, such as a friend’s connection or a phone hotspot.
If the server works for computers on the same home network but not for remote players, the problem is usually firewall or NAT reachability rather than the car or track files. If local and remote tests both fail, return to the server console and configuration first.

Choosing a hosting method
| Method | Setup time | Portability and control | Content and mods | Authentication | Networking responsibility |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Content Manager configuration | Fastest for most first-time hosts | Convenient in the launcher; export with Pack for backups | Can include the cars and tracks selected in the configuration | Uses the default behavior unless an alternative implementation is added | Host still configures firewall and router/NAT access |
| Dedicated folder with packed files | More initial file management | More portable and flexible for advanced operators | Same content requirements; easier to version and back up manually | Depends on the executable used | Host still configures firewall and router/NAT access |
| AssettoServer executable | Requires the packed configuration plus executable replacement | Separate server implementation with its own documentation | Works with the packed server content when configured correctly | Optional Steam Auth can prevent SteamID spoofing | Host must handle firewall/NAT and AssettoServer settings |
Choose Content Manager when your priority is getting a small private server running quickly. Choose a dedicated folder when several people maintain the server or you need portable, repeatable deployments. Choose AssettoServer’s Steam Auth only when identity verification is important enough to justify its version and configuration requirements.
Troubleshooting common multiplayer problems
The server does not appear in the browser
- Confirm the server process is still running and has not stopped on a configuration error.
- Check the host firewall rule for the exact executable currently in use.
- Verify the router forwards the ports named by the server’s own configuration and documentation.
- Test locally first. A local failure points to the server setup; a local success with remote failure points to NAT or firewall reachability.
The game says content is missing or incompatible
- Compare the server’s exact car and track names with your installed files.
- Remove duplicate or older copies that can cause the client to load a different version than the one required.
- Ask the operator for the trusted download and version rather than combining files from unrelated mod pages.
- Try an original-content server to confirm that the base game still connects.
AssettoServer authentication fails
- Check that Custom Shaders Patch is version 0.1.75 or newer.
- Check that Content Manager is version 0.8.2297.38573 or newer.
- Confirm Steam Auth is enabled in
extra_cfg.yml. - Verify that the host launched AssettoServer’s executable and not the default
acServer.exe.
The server starts in Content Manager but not from the folder
Re-extract the Pack archive into the intended server root and check for an extra nested directory. The executable must be run with the configuration and data files in the structure generated by Pack. If you changed to AssettoServer, verify that the replacement executable is present and restore the backed-up default when comparing behaviors.
The game runs poorly after joining
Steam’s minimum and recommended figures are not multiplayer performance guarantees. A modded server can add heavier cars, tracks, and larger grids than the original installation. Test with original content, then add the server’s required content one item at a time. If the original-content test is smooth but the modded session is not, the limiting factor is likely the additional content or the host’s session configuration rather than the ability to connect online.
Quick Recap
A reliable first multiplayer session
- Install the Steam game and confirm it launches offline.
- Join an original-content server through the in-game browser.
- For hosting, create the configuration in Content Manager and use Pack.
- Run the packed files locally before changing firewall or router settings.
- Allow the active executable through the firewall and configure NAT using the ports specified by that server implementation.
- Invite one remote player and verify the connection before adding mods or changing the executable.
- If you need identity protection, switch deliberately to AssettoServer and meet its Steam Auth version requirements.
