You can begin with the first campaign and move through the school years in sequence, or use the game’s available story selection to return to content you have already opened. Prepare your Switch 2 before installing
Check storage
Nintendo of America lists an estimated download size of 13.7 GB. Nintendo also cautions that preorder information, including download size, may not be final. Leave more free space than the estimate so the console can download the game and accommodate updates or temporary installation data. Treat 13.7 GB as a planning figure, not a guaranteed final file size.
- Check the free space shown in your Switch 2 storage settings before starting the download.
- If space is tight, remove or archive games you can redownload later, or use storage expansion supported by your console and the game’s installation requirements.
- Keep the console connected to power during a large download, particularly in handheld mode.
- Use a stable internet connection and allow time for any update that appears when the game first starts.
Prepare controllers for one or two players
Nintendo lists one to two players on a single system. Nintendo UK specifies that multiplayer requires one compatible controller per player. Therefore, a second local player needs an additional compatible controller; the official listing does not identify one particular controller model.
- For solo play, connect the controller arrangement you intend to use before launching the game.
- For two-player play, pair or connect a compatible controller for each person before selecting the multiplayer option.

When you reach a blocked route or an object that does not respond, do not assume the game is broken. Check the surrounding area, try the spells or character abilities currently available, and watch for the game’s on-screen prompt. The official descriptions support exploration and obstacle solving but do not publish a complete list of every interaction.

Learn and use spells
TT Games describes learning spells as a core activity in Years 1–4. A spell can open a route, activate an object, or help solve an environmental puzzle. Progress through the story to acquire the abilities the current section expects, then revisit earlier-looking obstacles when you have a new spell or character available.
Because no official Switch 2 button map is published, this guide does not assign a particular button to casting. Use the prompt shown on screen and the control information supplied by your installed game.
Brew potions
Brewing potions is another activity specifically identified by TT Games. Treat potion stations and ingredients as puzzle elements: investigate the nearby area, collect what the game allows, and follow the instructions displayed during the sequence. Play the story cooperatively
TT Games says the stories can be played cooperatively with a friend. Co-op is local to one Switch 2 system under Nintendo’s one-to-two-player listing. Players can work through exploration, spell use, potion activities, and puzzles together, with each person using a compatible controller.
The supplied official pages do not advertise online multiplayer, cross-platform play, or a second-console mode. Do not treat the one-system co-op listing as evidence for any of those features.

No official Switch 2 control map or game manual was available in the cited sources for movement, casting, character switching, interacting, menus, or co-op joining. It would be misleading to publish a button-by-button chart without an authoritative Switch 2 source.

- Read every on-screen prompt the first time an action appears.
- Pause and inspect any controls, help, or manual section exposed by the game’s own interface.
- Test a non-critical action in a safe area before entering a puzzle or combat sequence.
- When playing co-op, have each player confirm which controller is assigned to their character before progressing.
- If a prompt does not appear, move closer to the object, finish any preceding dialogue or animation, and check whether the required spell, potion, or character has been unlocked.

Switch 2 edition versus compatibility with older Switch software
Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, while warning that some older games may not be supported or may not be fully compatible. Nintendo’s estimate is 13.7 GB and may change. Free additional storage, then retry the installation. If the console reports a different final requirement, follow the current store figure rather than the earlier estimate.
A second player cannot join
- Confirm that two compatible controllers are connected, one for each player.
- Check the console’s controller-assignment screen before returning to the game.
- Return to the game’s join prompt and follow the input shown on screen.
- Restart the game only after saving or reaching a safe point, because unsaved progress can be lost.
You cannot pass an obstacle
Search the nearby area for a spell, potion station, character interaction, or environmental trigger. The official gameplay descriptions make these systems central to progression. If the required ability has not yet been learned or unlocked, continue the story and return later rather than assuming a control failure.
