The broadest current way to play the series is KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], released October 8, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The collection combines the 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind bundles. On the original Nintendo Switch, those releases remain Cloud versions rather than native software, so your hardware and network connection determine which edition you should buy.
Which Kingdom Hearts version should you get?
Choose the platform you already use unless you specifically want to move from the original Switch Cloud editions to native Switch 2 software. For a new player, Collection [I~III] is the simplest route because it gathers the principal playable games and the story films into one purchase. It is available digitally on the newly supported platforms, while physical editions are listed for PlayStation 5 and Switch 2.

- Windows PC: The collection was announced for Microsoft Store on Windows, and the official collection page links to Steam and Epic Games Store. Check the listing in your region before purchasing.
- PlayStation: Use the PS5 collection for the current bundle. Earlier PS4 editions of the component collections still appear in publisher eligibility information, but they are not the same as the new PS5 package.
- Xbox: The new bundle is for Xbox Series X|S. The catalog also lists earlier Xbox One editions and Xbox on PC, so verify the console generation in the store listing.
- Nintendo Switch 2: Collection [I~III] released natively on October 8, 2026.
- Original Nintendo Switch: The 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind releases are Cloud versions. They stream the games and depend on network and service conditions.
Regional storefronts can differ. Prices, download sizes, performance specifications, and Cloud service availability are not stated comprehensively in the current publisher material, so confirm those details on the store you intend to use.

What is KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III]?
Collection [I~III] is a three-part package rather than one newly remade game. It contains the following collections:
#1 Best Overall
- KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III] Amazon Exclusive Edition includes a double-sided poster.
- A value packed bundle featuring three collections: KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC).
- This product is also included in other bundle sets. Please ensure you do not purchase the same content more than once.
- Platform-exclusive Keyblade "Long Night" included with purchase!
- GAME-KEY CARD. 128 GB – Full game download via internet required.
| Bundle | Included content | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| KINGDOM HEARTS -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX- | KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX; Re:Chain of Memories; KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX; Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX; HD story-film presentations of 358/2 Days and Re:coded | 358/2 Days and Re:coded are cutscene compilations, not fully playable remasters. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue | Dream Drop Distance HD; the χ Back Cover movie; 0.2 Birth by Sleep | The bundle mixes a playable remaster, a film, and a shorter playable episode. |
| KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind | Kingdom Hearts III and the Re Mind downloadable content | Re Mind is included with this collection rather than being a separate purchase within the bundle. |
The package is therefore useful for following the series across its major releases, but it does not turn every historical entry into a playable game. The two film-based items are there to provide story context.
Platform-by-platform availability
| Platform | Current route | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Collection [I~III] announced for Microsoft Store on Windows; the collection page also links Steam and Epic Games Store. | Choose the launcher you prefer and confirm the regional product listing before buying. |
| PlayStation 5 | Collection [I~III] is listed digitally and physically. | Physical copies still require an internet connection to download additional data. |
| PlayStation 4 | Earlier versions of the component collections are referenced in publisher eligibility information. | Do not assume a PS4 listing is the new PS5 Collection [I~III] package. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Collection [I~III] announced for the current Xbox generation. | Check that the store page says Series X|S if you want the new bundle. |
| Xbox One and Xbox on PC | The series catalog lists earlier collection releases. | Verify which bundle and generation your purchase covers. |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Native Collection [I~III], released October 8, 2026. | This is separate from the original Switch Cloud releases. |

Can I play Kingdom Hearts on PC?
Yes. Windows is an established platform for Collection [I~III]. The release announcement names Microsoft Store on Windows, while the official collection page links to Steam and Epic Games Store. Those references establish storefront availability, but a particular edition can still vary by country or account region.
How to buy and install on Windows
- Open the Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account you plan to use.
- Search for KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III], not just an individual game title.
- Check the publisher, included bundles, supported operating-system listing, and your region before purchasing.
- Install through that storefront and launch the collection from the same account. Keep enough storage for the store’s current download requirement; the publisher material does not give one universal size.
Steam and Epic are linked from the official collection page, but the available edition, language options, and local price can differ between storefronts. Treat the store page shown to your account as the final availability check.

On PlayStation 5, Collection [I~III] is the current all-in-one route and is listed in both digital and physical forms. If you own a PS4, the publisher also references earlier PS4 collection editions in its eligibility information. Those older releases can be relevant when checking upgrade or purchase eligibility, but they should not be described as the new PS5 collection.
Digital PS5 setup
- Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5 and search for the full Collection [I~III] name.
- Read the included-content panel to confirm that 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind are present.
- Purchase and download the collection, then apply any available system or game updates before starting.
- If you previously bought an eligible digital PS4 collection, check the current regional store terms for any discount attached to the new collection.
Physical PS5 setup
The publisher lists a physical PS5 edition, but it is not a self-contained, no-internet package. SQUARE ENIX states: “To play the physical version of KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I–III], an internet connection is required to download additional data.” The announcement does not state the download size or guarantee how the game behaves offline after installation. Plan to connect the console before you begin.
Can you play Kingdom Hearts on Xbox?
Yes. Collection [I~III] was announced for Xbox Series X|S. The catalog also lists earlier collections on Xbox One and Xbox on PC, so the console generation matters when you compare listings.
Xbox Series X|S setup
- Open the Microsoft Store on the console and search for Collection [I~III].
- Confirm that the product page identifies Xbox Series X|S and lists all three bundles.
- Install the digital edition and let the console complete its updates before launching.
- If you own an eligible Xbox One digital edition, review the current regional terms for a possible discount on the new collection.
Do not infer a frame-rate, resolution, or performance advantage from the platform name alone. The available official material does not provide a complete, current comparison of those specifications.

Is Kingdom Hearts on Nintendo Switch, or only Switch 2?
It is on both, but the versions work differently. Switch 2 received a native Collection [I~III] release on October 8, 2026. The original Switch has the earlier 1.5+2.5, 2.8, and III + Re Mind Cloud releases. Calling the original Switch editions “the Switch collection” without mentioning Cloud delivery can give the wrong expectation about installation and connectivity.
Switch 2: native collection
On Switch 2, use the Nintendo store listing for the native Collection [I~III] package. A physical edition is listed, and the publisher says an internet connection is required to download additional data even for that physical version. Digital and physical availability can vary by region.
Original Switch: Cloud versions
The original Switch releases stream gameplay from a remote service instead of providing the same native software package as Switch 2. A reliable connection is therefore part of the practical requirement, and service availability can depend on region and current provider conditions. Before buying, open the listing for your country and confirm that the Cloud service is offered and supported on your network.
Switch Cloud save transfer
SQUARE ENIX says owners of the Switch Cloud editions can transfer their saves to Switch 2. The same announcement says transfers are not supported for other platforms. Follow the current regional store instructions and eligibility terms, and keep the original Switch Cloud data available until the transfer is confirmed.
Physical or digital: which edition fits?
| Choice | Best for | Requirement or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Digital collection | Players who want immediate access through their normal store account and no disc or cartridge. | Store availability and price depend on region; download size is not stated universally. |
| Physical PS5 or Switch 2 collection | Players who prefer a boxed copy or want a physical product. | An internet connection is required to download additional data; the publisher does not specify the size or later offline behavior. |
| Original Switch Cloud editions | Owners of the original Switch who do not have Switch 2. | Gameplay depends on network quality and Cloud service availability. |
Eligible owners of certain digital PS4, Xbox One, or Switch Cloud editions may receive discounts on digital purchases of the new collection. Eligibility is platform- and region-specific, so check the store terms attached to your account rather than assuming every prior purchase qualifies.
Which platform should you choose?
Choose Windows if your games are centered on a PC launcher
Windows is the most flexible choice for someone who already manages games through Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store. Pick one storefront and keep the purchase, installation, and save-management expectations tied to that account. The official sources do not establish a universal performance ranking among the PC storefronts.
Choose PS5 or Xbox Series X|S for a current-generation console
Use the new collection on the console you already own. PS5 has both digital and physical listings; Xbox Series X|S is the current Xbox route for Collection [I~III]. If you are comparing older PS4 or Xbox One purchases, first identify whether the listing is an earlier component collection or the 2026 all-in-one package.
Rank #3
- The latest installment in the beloved Kingdom Hearts series, Re:Coded unites Sora, Mickey, Donald, Goofy and a host of familiar faces from Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy once again for an exciting new adventure
- All-new features include a new character growth system created specifically for the Nintendo DS release, building on the series' immersive blend of action and role-playing elements
- Guide Sora like never before through exciting new boss battles
- Players can design their own avatar using over 800 unlockable parts and trade playable maps with friends
- Varied gameplay inspired by side-scrolling, shooting and classic Final Fantasy games
Choose Switch 2 for native Nintendo hardware play
Switch 2 is the Nintendo route for a native collection. It avoids the original Switch’s Cloud-edition distinction, although the physical version still needs an internet connection to download additional data.

Stay on original Switch only if Cloud play suits you
The original Switch Cloud releases can be appropriate when upgrading hardware is not an option, but they are dependent on streaming conditions. Test the service in your region and on the network where you will actually play before committing.
Platform-exclusive Keyblades
The collection has platform-specific in-game Keyblades. They are extras, not separate story bundles or different game versions.
| Platform | Exclusive Keyblade |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Long Night |
| PlayStation | Midnight Blue |
| Xbox | Phantom Green |
| Steam | Dead of Night |
The published platform list does not identify an equivalent separate Keyblade for Microsoft Store on Windows or Epic Games Store. Do not treat these extras as evidence that one platform contains additional mainline games.

Collection [I~III] contains games released in different eras, so the order you use affects how much story context you have. A straightforward first run is:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Start with KINGDOM HEARTS FINAL MIX.
- Continue with Re:Chain of Memories.
- Play or watch the 358/2 Days HD cutscene compilation when you reach it in your preferred story order.
- Play KINGDOM HEARTS II FINAL MIX.
- Watch the Re:coded HD cutscene compilation.
- Play Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX.
- Play Dream Drop Distance HD.
- Watch the χ Back Cover movie and play 0.2 Birth by Sleep.
- Finish with Kingdom Hearts III and then its included Re Mind DLC.
The collection itself does not require you to follow this sequence, and players familiar with the series may prefer a different chronology. The key practical point is to recognize which entries are games and which two 1.5+2.5 items are films.
Common problems and how to avoid them
You bought an original Switch Cloud edition expecting a native download
Check the product title for the word “Cloud” and verify that you are using the original Switch listing rather than the Switch 2 collection. Cloud editions require a supported network connection and service.

You bought a physical copy but cannot start immediately
Connect the PS5 or Switch 2 to the internet and allow the additional-data download to finish. The publisher requires that download for the physical collection and does not publish a universal size in the cited announcement.
You cannot find Collection [I~III] in your store
Confirm your hardware generation, country storefront, and search spelling. On PC, check Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic separately. On consoles, distinguish PS5 or Xbox Series X|S listings from older PS4 or Xbox One collection releases.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Your previous save is not appearing on a new platform
The announced transfer path covers Nintendo Switch Cloud saves moving to Switch 2. The same announcement does not support transfers for other platforms. If you are changing from PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, do not assume that a save can move with the purchase.
You are comparing versions by performance claims
Current official platform material does not provide a complete, consistent table of resolution, frame rate, load times, or download sizes. Use confirmed availability, delivery method, save-transfer eligibility, and included content as the reliable comparison points.
What is not established by the current platform information?
- There is no complete platform-by-platform price table; local prices and promotions can change.
- Download sizes are not given as one universal figure for every storefront and edition.
- Detailed resolution, frame-rate, and performance comparisons are not comprehensively specified.
- Original Switch Cloud availability can vary by region and service conditions.
- The physical-edition announcement confirms the required additional-data download but does not state its size or guarantee offline behavior after installation.
Those limits matter when budgeting storage, planning travel, or deciding whether a Cloud version is practical. Use the current listing for your country and hardware as the final check.
The Bottom Line
For most new players, buy KINGDOM HEARTS Collection [I~III] on the platform you already own: Windows, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or native Switch 2. Choose the original Switch releases only with the understanding that they are Cloud versions, and remember that every physical collection requires an internet connection to download additional data.
