He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction supports two-player local co-op. On Nintendo Switch, the official listing specifies “Single system (1-2),” so two people can play together on one console. The publisher also describes a two-player local co-op mode. The Steam listing advertises Remote Play Together, but that is Steam’s method for streaming a local multiplayer session to another person—not confirmation of native online matchmaking or cross-platform play.
As of October 17, 2026, the game is still unreleased. Nintendo lists February 4, 2027, for the Switch version, and the exact in-game join screen and controller-assignment sequence have not been published. The practical guide below explains what is confirmed, how to prepare, and what to try when the second player cannot join without inventing button prompts that may be wrong.
What co-op does Dragon Pearl of Destruction support?
The confirmed mode is two-player local co-op. Limited Run Games describes it as “2-player local co-op,” while Nintendo’s Switch catalog uses the label “Single system (1-2).” In practical terms, the Switch version is designed for couch play on one console and one display, with each player using a supported input device.

That is different from a built-in online lobby system. The available Steam listing includes Remote Play Together, a Steam platform feature that lets a host stream a local multiplayer game to a remote participant. No listing establishes native online matchmaking, dedicated servers, cross-platform play, or a separate online co-op mode. Treat Remote Play Together as a PC workaround for local multiplayer rather than as proof that the game has online accounts or cross-play.

Before starting a local co-op session
Because the game has not released yet, prepare for the parts that are already documented and leave room for the final interface to differ. Use this checklist before launching a session:
- Use the same platform and edition. The one-system player count is explicitly published for Nintendo Switch. Other platforms may expose the same mode, but their store pages should be checked individually.
- Have two supported controllers or input devices ready. Nintendo warns that additional accessories may be required. The listings do not specify which controller combinations the final game will accept, so do not assume that every single Joy-Con arrangement, third-party pad, or handheld configuration will work.
- Update the console or PC and the game. A launch update can change menus or fix controller detection. Apply it before troubleshooting a missing co-op prompt.
- Decide who is hosting. In local play, one console runs the session. With Steam Remote Play Together, one Steam user runs the game and the other joins that streamed local session.
- Expect an on-screen co-op prompt, not a guaranteed button sequence. No official page currently states whether player two joins from the title screen, a character-select screen, or inside a level.
How to start two-player local co-op
The following procedure separates confirmed facts from steps that are reasonable expectations for an unreleased console brawler. The game’s final menu labels may change.
- Connect the second input device. Pair or attach a second supported controller to the console before opening the game. If you are using a detachable-control setup, verify that the console shows both inputs as active.
- Launch Dragon Pearl of Destruction. Start the game on the console that will host the session. Keep both players near the screen because the join prompt may appear only on the active game window.
- Open the game’s local-play or new-game option. Look for wording such as local co-op, two-player, multiplayer, or a second-player indicator. The publisher confirms the mode exists, but has not published an exact title-screen path.
- Have player two use the connected controller when the prompt appears. Follow the instruction shown by the game rather than relying on a button combination from another title. If the game permits joining after a level has started, that capability will be identified by the on-screen prompt; it has not been confirmed in the published listings.
- Select characters. Nintendo lists He-Man, Teela, Man-At-Arms, and She-Ra as playable. The listings say that characters have distinct strengths and abilities, so choose roles that complement each other instead of automatically selecting the same type of fighter.
- Confirm the party and begin the stage. Check that both character portraits or player indicators are present before starting. If only one character appears, return to the controller-assignment or character-selection screen rather than assuming the second player is connected.
- Coordinate during combat. Dragon Pearl of Destruction is a 2D arcade-style brawler with character-specific moves, special abilities, and power-ups. Stay close enough to support each other, communicate before using important abilities, and watch for the game’s own prompts about pickups or powers.
If the second player cannot join
First confirm that the console recognizes two separate inputs outside the game. Then close and relaunch the game with both controllers connected, and look again for a local-play option or player-two prompt. If the second device is being used in a configuration the final game does not support, switch to another supported controller arrangement. Nintendo notes that Switch Lite play can differ from play on a standard Switch, and additional accessories may be needed.
Do not infer that a missing prompt means co-op was removed. The game is unreleased as of October 17, 2026, and the public listings do not document the final join flow. Check the current game update and platform listing for launch-specific instructions.
Playing co-op on Nintendo Switch
Nintendo’s U.S. product page is the clearest platform-specific evidence: it lists one to two players on a single system and supports TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. That means two people can use one Switch installation rather than needing two copies or two consoles for the local mode.

The player-count label applies specifically to the Switch listing. Do not automatically apply “one system, two players” to the PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam versions without checking those platforms’ current pages. Likewise, a Switch Lite may require a separate way to connect another controller, and Nintendo says the play experience can differ on that hardware.
Can you play online through Steam?
Steam’s store page identifies Remote Play Together. This feature allows the owner of a game to run it locally while another person views the stream and sends controller input over Steam. It is useful when two players are not in the same room, but it does not turn Dragon Pearl of Destruction into a native online game.
What Remote Play Together means here
- The host runs the Steam copy and starts the local multiplayer session.
- The invited player connects through Steam’s Remote Play Together feature.
- The game still behaves as a local two-player session on the host computer.
- The listing does not establish built-in online matchmaking, cross-platform play, or a separate online progression system.
A practical Steam setup
- Install and launch the Steam version on the host computer, then make sure the host has a controller or other supported input available.
- Open Steam’s friends or game overlay and use the Remote Play Together invitation control associated with the running game. Steam may change the location or wording of this control.
- Invite the second player through Steam and have that player accept the invitation.
- When the remote player is connected, use the game’s own local co-op prompt to add player two. The exact Dragon Pearl menu path has not been published.
- If the guest can see the stream but cannot control a character, check Steam’s input-sharing permissions and the game’s player-two assignment screen. Remote Play Together can transmit input only after Steam grants the guest access.
Remote Play Together depends on the Steam version, Steam account permissions, network quality, and the game’s final controller handling. It should not be described as an online mode available on Switch, PlayStation, or Xbox.
Which characters can you use together?
Nintendo lists four playable characters: He-Man, Teela, Man-At-Arms, and She-Ra. The game’s character designs are intended to provide different strengths and abilities, so the best pair depends on whether your group prefers direct damage, mobility, or a mixture of approaches.
He-Man
Publisher copy presents He-Man as the raw-power choice. He is the natural pick for a player who wants a straightforward, forceful brawler and is comfortable engaging enemies directly.

Teela
The publisher describes Teela as an agile staff fighter. Her emphasis on movement gives a co-op partner a different rhythm from He-Man’s power-focused approach.

Man-At-Arms is listed as playable, and Nintendo says the roster has distinct abilities. Public product copy does not provide enough detail to assign him a specific weapon range, damage profile, or support function, so use the game’s in-game descriptions rather than relying on assumptions from other Masters of the Universe games.
She-Ra
She-Ra is listed among the playable characters, but Limited Run Games says she is unlocked for later playthroughs. That wording suggests she may not be available at the beginning of a first run. The listings do not state the exact unlock condition, so do not promise that she can be selected immediately in a new save.
Because the game has not launched, there is no verified tier list or optimal two-character pairing. Start with the characters available to both players, learn their move sets, and switch roles if one player is struggling with the pace of a stage.
What kind of co-op game is it?
Dragon Pearl of Destruction is presented as a 2D arcade-style brawler with pixel-art visuals. Its co-op loop is built around moving through stages, fighting groups of enemies, using character-specific moves and special abilities, and collecting power-ups. This format generally rewards communication: one player can draw attention while the other attacks from a safer angle, and both players can coordinate when to spend special abilities.

The official descriptions do not establish friendly fire, shared or individual health, revive rules, screen tethering, difficulty scaling, or whether progress is saved for each player separately. Those systems can materially change how a co-op session feels, so wait for the final manual or in-game tutorial before treating any of them as confirmed features.
How many levels or stages are included?
The listings use different wording. Nintendo describes the adventure as containing more than 13 levels, while the current Limited Run preorder copy says 13 stages. A general Limited Run product page has also used a 12-stage description. Because these counts conflict and the game is still unreleased, the safest statement is that official pages currently advertise an arcade campaign of at least 13 stages or levels, with the exact final count requiring confirmation from the released product.
Do not use the discrepancy to infer missing co-op content. Nothing in the published descriptions indicates that the local mode has fewer stages than single-player, but the listings also do not explicitly promise identical progression for every mode.

Nintendo’s U.S. listing gives February 4, 2027, as the Switch release date. Limited Run Games lists physical standard and collector editions for Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. Release dates, preorder windows, prices, and bonuses can change, so verify the retailer page before purchasing.

Troubleshooting co-op problems
There is no local co-op option
Confirm that you are running the released build rather than a trailer, demo, or menu from another title. Nintendo and the publisher both advertise local co-op, but the exact menu location is not public before launch. Install updates, restart the game, and look for local, two-player, or multiplayer wording at the main menu and new-game screens.
The second controller is not detected
Pair the second controller with the console before launching the game, then verify that the operating system recognizes it. Disconnect other unused inputs if the platform is assigning player numbers unexpectedly. If you are on Switch Lite, remember that Nintendo warns the experience can differ and that extra accessories may be required.
The game shows only one character
Return to the player-join or character-selection screen and activate the second input when the game asks for it. A connected controller is not necessarily an active player. If the title supports joining only at a particular point, follow the prompt at that point; public listings do not say whether mid-level joining is allowed.
Remote Play Together connects but input fails
On Steam, the host must allow the guest to share controller input through Remote Play Together. Check Steam’s overlay permissions, confirm that the guest is connected to the correct invitation, and make sure the host has started local multiplayer. A video stream by itself does not prove that the game has registered player two.
You expected native online multiplayer
Do not look for an in-game matchmaking queue based solely on the Steam listing. Remote Play Together is the only online-style option identified in the available product information. If you need native online play, wait for a platform-specific announcement that explicitly names online multiplayer.
What is confirmed and what remains unknown?
The reliable co-op facts are narrow but useful: the publisher promises two-player local co-op; Nintendo specifies one to two players on one Switch system; and Steam advertises Remote Play Together. The release date listed for Switch is February 4, 2027.
The following details remain unconfirmed in the public listings: the exact button used to join, whether player two can enter after a level begins, the required controller combinations on each platform, online matchmaking, cross-play, shared-health rules, revive mechanics, and the final stage count. Treat any guide that states those details as definitive before launch with caution unless it cites a final manual or an in-game demonstration.
