For a story-driven guitar experience, install New Questline – Guitar Gigs Across Night City. Its Nexus Mods listing describes six quests in which V performs at venues, makes choices during performances, and permanently unlocks venues for later shows. It requires Phantom Liberty plus ArchiveXL, AudioXL, Codeware, RED4ext, redscript, and TweakXL.
If you want to play songs whenever you like instead of following gigs, install Playable Guitar Weapon – Play Your Songs. It adds a guitar that doubles as a melee weapon and accepts up to 50 of your own MP3 files. Both options are PC mods; the cited installation instructions do not establish console support.
Choose the guitar experience you actually want
Cyberpunk 2077 does not provide a normal, built-in guitar instrument. The practical way to play is through community mods, and the right download depends on whether you want quests, free performance, or an ambient character scene.

You do not need all three. Start with the questline if performing is the main objective, add the playable weapon only if you also want free play, and use Here’s Johnny for a separate character moment.

What you need before installing
A PC installation
The available instructions use Windows-style Cyberpunk 2077 folders and Vortex, Nexus Mods’ mod manager. They do not document a console installation, so treat these instructions as PC-only rather than assuming the same files work on PlayStation or Xbox.
The Phantom Liberty expansion
Both the Guitar Gigs Across Night City listing and the Playable Guitar Weapon listing mark Phantom Liberty as required. If the expansion is not installed and enabled on the same game installation, do not expect either mod to load correctly.
The questline’s framework stack
Guitar Gigs Across Night City lists six required frameworks:
- ArchiveXL
- AudioXL
- Codeware
- RED4ext
- redscript
- TweakXL
These are separate downloads. Install the current versions shown in the quest mod’s live Requirements section, not an old copy from a guide or a backup folder. Framework releases and compatibility can change after a game update.
A clean rollback plan
Copy your save files before changing a modded installation. Keep a note of which files you installed and where they came from, and avoid overwriting a working setup until the new files launch successfully. A rollback is much easier when you can disable one mod at a time instead of trying to reconstruct the entire installation.

Install Guitar Gigs Across Night City with Vortex
CD Projekt Red’s official modding-support guidance points players to Nexus Mods and explains using Vortex to install and enable downloads. The following sequence follows that workflow while leaving version-specific file choices to the live mod pages.
- Install Vortex. Download the manager through Nexus Mods, start it, and allow it to detect your Cyberpunk 2077 installation. Confirm that Vortex is managing the same game folder in which your Phantom Liberty copy is installed.
- Install the six dependencies first. Add ArchiveXL, AudioXL, Codeware, RED4ext, redscript, and TweakXL from their current Nexus Mods pages. Let Vortex finish each installation before moving to the next one.
- Install the quest mod. On the Guitar Gigs Across Night City page, choose the current main file and send it to Vortex. In Vortex’s Mods section, install and enable it rather than leaving it merely downloaded.
- Check the live requirements and posts. The listing has displayed a version discrepancy: the main description reports version 1.01, while its posts/version listing reports version 1.02 updated October 11, 2026. That difference is a reason to trust the current file page and recent posts over a cached number in an older article.
- Launch a test save. Start the game, load a disposable save, and check that the main menu reaches the game without an error. Test the mod before committing to a long quest session.
Vortex also has a Mods section for adding manually downloaded files. If you use that route, follow the individual mod author’s folder instructions exactly; do not drag files into arbitrary game directories simply because their names look familiar.
What the questline adds
Six linked quests
The Guitar Gigs Across Night City listing describes a six-quest progression rather than a single repeatable interaction. V performs at different venues, and completing a quest permanently unlocks its associated venue for later performances. That gives the mod two layers: a directed sequence while you are advancing through the story and a free venue choice after each location has been unlocked.
Choices during performances
Performances include interactive decisions, voiced dialogue, custom cinematic events, and venue-specific presentation. The choices are part of the quest design, so approach each gig as a mission with branching moments rather than as a menu that simply starts an audio track.
Finding and replaying venues
Follow the quest objectives in your journal after the mod is enabled. Once a gig is completed, its venue remains available according to the listing’s progression system. If a venue does not appear, first verify that the relevant quest actually completed and that the mod and all six frameworks are enabled; do not assume a missing marker means the location is inaccessible.

Add your own songs to the quest performances
The questline author documents custom music through AudioXL. The listing directs players to place MP3 files in the specified AudioXL sound folder and rename them with the listed guitar_song_ naming pattern.

- Prepare MP3 files that you are legally entitled to use. Keep the filenames simple and avoid special characters until you have confirmed that the game recognizes the files.
- Open the AudioXL sound-folder location specified on the current Guitar Gigs Across Night City page. The exact folder should come from that live instruction, because mod authors can change packaging between releases.
- Rename each file to match the required
guitar_song_pattern. Preserve the spelling, underscores, and numbering or suffix format shown by the author. - Start the game after copying the files and test one gig. If a song is missing, recheck the filename and folder before changing other mods.
No fixed maximum number of songs for the questline is stated on its listing, so do not transfer the playable-weapon mod’s 50-song limit to the gig system.
Install the separate playable guitar weapon
Use Playable Guitar Weapon – Play Your Songs when you want to perform outside the six-quest progression. Its page marks Phantom Liberty as required and describes the guitar as both an instrument and a melee weapon.
- Install the current file from its live mod page. Use Vortex if possible so the installation can be disabled cleanly. Check the page’s requirements and posts before choosing a file.
- Add MP3 files to the documented folder. The author specifies
Cyberpunk 2077r6audiowarezeusico_guitar_hero. Create the folder only if the installation does not already contain it, and keep the spelling exactly as shown. - Stay within the documented capacity. The listing supports up to 50 of your own songs. It does not promise that more than 50 files will be indexed reliably.
- Obtain the guitar in game. The mod page includes an in-game item code as an alternative acquisition method. Use the code shown on that page rather than copying an unverified code from a third-party post.
- Test in a quiet location. Equip the item, play a song, and confirm that audio and the animation work before taking it into a mission.
This mod is optional for Guitar Gigs Across Night City. Installing it is useful if you want the same guitar outside the quest venues, but it is not listed as a prerequisite for the six-quest content.
How free play works in the city
When the playable guitar is equipped, it behaves as a weapon and can be played outside the gig missions. The listing says nearby NPCs react to the performance, which makes streets and other public spaces part of the experience rather than limiting the instrument to a dedicated stage.

There is one important gameplay rule: enemies will not attack while the guitar is being played. Treat that as a documented limitation, not as a stealth strategy or a way to make combat safe. Stop playing and switch back to normal combat equipment before entering a fight or hostile area.
Understand the framework names and their role
You do not need to configure these frameworks individually for ordinary play, but knowing which mod depends on which files makes troubleshooting faster.
- ArchiveXL: listed by Guitar Gigs Across Night City and Here’s Johnny.
- AudioXL: listed by the questline and used by its custom-song setup.
- Codeware: listed as a Guitar Gigs Across Night City requirement.
- RED4ext: listed as a Guitar Gigs Across Night City requirement.
- redscript: listed as a Guitar Gigs Across Night City requirement.
- TweakXL: listed as a Guitar Gigs Across Night City requirement.
- Deceptious Quest Core: listed by Here’s Johnny.
The playable guitar listing, as described, names Phantom Liberty as required but does not list the six questline frameworks as prerequisites. Do not install extra frameworks solely because another guitar mod uses them; follow each page’s own Requirements section.

The game starts, but no guitar quests appear
- Confirm that Guitar Gigs Across Night City is enabled in Vortex, not just downloaded.
- Verify all six named frameworks are installed and enabled.
- Check that Phantom Liberty belongs to the same game installation Vortex is managing.
- Load a save created after the mod was enabled or follow the mod page’s current start instructions.
- Read recent posts for a release-specific fix, especially if the game or a framework updated recently.
The game fails during startup
Disable the newest mod or dependency in Vortex and test again. If the game launches, re-enable files one at a time. A startup failure after an update often points to a version mismatch between the game, RED4ext, redscript, or another framework; the live requirements pages are more authoritative than an old installation list.
Custom music does not play
- For the questline, verify that the MP3 is in the AudioXL folder named by the author, not the playable-weapon folder.
- For the playable weapon, verify the exact path

guitar_song_pattern where that pattern applies. - Test with one short, plainly named MP3 before adding a larger collection.
- Restart the game after changing files.
The guitar exists but cannot be used in a fight
That behavior is expected for the playable weapon: the listing explicitly says enemies will not attack while you are playing. End the performance before attempting combat.

Here’s Johnny does not show Johnny playing guitar
Here’s Johnny is an ambient apartment mod, not a guaranteed performance quest. Its listing says Johnny may appear in several of V’s apartments and may play guitar. Check ArchiveXL and Deceptious Quest Core first, then review the mod’s current conditions rather than expecting a playable instrument to appear.
What Here’s Johnny is—and is not
Here’s Johnny is worth mentioning because it is guitar-related but serves a different purpose. With ArchiveXL and Deceptious Quest Core installed, it can place Johnny in several of V’s apartments, where he may play guitar. It does not provide the six-quest venue progression, custom playable weapon, or the documented 50-song library.
Keep the installation current and reversible
Mod pages are living documents. The Guitar Gigs Across Night City listing currently shows version information that differs between its main description and its posts/version listing, with version 1.02 reported as updated October 11, 2026 in the latter. Check the live file list and recent posts immediately before installation, and repeat that check after a Cyberpunk 2077 update.

CD Projekt Red’s official modding-support page states that community mods are not reviewed by CD Projekt Red. That means the studio does not certify these files or guarantee their compatibility. Use a separate test save, keep backups, and remove or disable a mod if it causes crashes, broken quests, or corrupted settings.
