To play Ghost of Tsushima: Legends with friends, open Legends from the game’s title menu, pause menu, or a Storyteller, then invite your friends through the in-game Social/friend list or accept a PlayStation Network invitation. On PC, the official route is Enter Legends Mode → Social → choose a PlayStation friend → Send Invite. PC, PS4, and PS5 can play together when the session is started by inviting PlayStation friends; PlayStation currently labels PC cross-play as beta.
Before inviting anyone, confirm that each player owns an edition with Legends, has the required online access, and is using a compatible platform. Console players need an internet connection and PlayStation Plus for Legends Mode. PC players need PlayStation sign-in for online multiplayer, and online multiplayer is unavailable on Steam Deck.

What you need before starting a Legends party
Legends is Ghost of Tsushima’s online cooperative mode. The exact prerequisites depend on where each friend is playing, and Store wording can vary by region. Check these items before troubleshooting invitations.
Recommended Free Tools
| Platform | Edition or game requirement | Online requirement | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS4 | Ghost of Tsushima installed and updated to patch 1.10 or later according to the PlayStation Store listing; the Legends unlock must match the game’s region. | PlayStation Network connection, internet access, and PlayStation Plus are required for online Legends play. | The installed game and the Legends entitlement must be compatible with the account and region. |
| PS5 | PlayStation lists the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PS5 as including Legends online co-op. | Internet access and PlayStation Plus are required for Legends Mode online. | Use the edition that includes Legends rather than assuming every product listing has identical contents. |
| PC | The PC Director’s Cut includes Legends co-op. | PlayStation sign-in is required for online multiplayer. | Online multiplayer is unavailable on Steam Deck. PlayStation currently describes PC cross-play as beta. |
Do not assume that a PC copy will automatically place you in console queues. The official PC support wording describes cross-play sessions that begin by inviting PlayStation friends. That invitation step is the dependable way to assemble a PC, PS4, and PS5 group.
#1 Best Overall
- Beyond war, ancient beauty endures: Roam vast countryside and expansive terrain to encounter rich characters, discover ancient landmarks and uncover the hidden beauty of Tsushima.
- The rise of the Ghost: Seek support from old friends and new unlikely allies to reclaim Tsushima.
- Mud, Blood and steel: challenge opponents with your katana for an immersive Samurai combat experience.
- Become legends together: play with friends or via online matchmaking in a series of two-player story missions or four-player wave-based survival missions in the legends online co-op
- A whole new island to explore: Travel to Iki Island to investigate rumors of a Mongol presence in a brand-new story with deeply personal stakes.
Check the PS4 patch and region
If a PS4 player cannot access Legends, verify the game update first. The official Store instructions specify patch 1.10 or later, an active PlayStation Network connection, and a Legends unlock that matches the game’s region. A mismatch between the game region and the unlock can prevent access even when the base game launches normally.
Confirm console subscriptions
PlayStation identifies PlayStation Plus as a requirement for Legends Mode on PS4 and PS5. This requirement applies to console online play; the cited PC guidance establishes PlayStation sign-in, but does not establish a universal PlayStation Plus requirement for PC.
How do I open Ghost of Tsushima: Legends?
Every player can reach the Legends lobby in one of several official ways. Use whichever is available from your current screen.
- From the title menu: Start Ghost of Tsushima and choose the option to enter Legends.
- From the pause menu: Pause the single-player game and select the Legends option.
- Through a Storyteller: In Tsushima, speak with a Storyteller. Gyozen’s dialogue gives access to the Legends lobby.
- By accepting an invitation: Accept a PlayStation Network invitation from a friend. The invitation can take you directly into the relevant Legends session.
Sucker Punch senior game designer Darren Bridges described these routes in a PlayStation.Blog post published October 5, 2020: speaking with Gyozen opens the Legends lobby, while the title menu, pause menu, or an accepted PSN invitation provide direct alternatives. You do not need to return to a particular location in the single-player map if the menu or invitation route is available.
How do I invite a friend to Legends?
PC: the exact official menu path
On PC, use this sequence from the game’s main menu:
- Select Enter Legends Mode.
- Open Social.
- Select the friend from your PlayStation friends list.
- Choose Send Invite.
The friend must be connected through PlayStation’s friend system for this cross-play invitation route. If the person is not listed, finish the PlayStation sign-in and friend connection before attempting the invite again. The PC support guidance requires PlayStation sign-in for online multiplayer, so launching the game without completing that sign-in can block the social options or the session itself.
PS4 and PS5: invite or accept through PlayStation Network
Console players can use the game’s friend-invitation flow from Legends, or accept an invitation sent through PlayStation Network. If a friend sends the invitation first, accepting it is also an official way to enter the lobby. Once everyone is in Legends, select the activity that matches the size of your group.

When the friend does not appear
Check that both accounts are signed in, that the intended friend is connected through PlayStation’s social system, and that everyone has entered Legends rather than remaining in the single-player menu. On PC, return to Enter Legends Mode → Social and refresh the friend selection before sending the invitation again. On console, have the recipient check pending PlayStation Network invitations. These checks address the documented invitation path without assuming that a general matchmaking search will create the same cross-platform party.
Can PS4, PS5, and PC play Ghost of Tsushima: Legends together?
Yes, with an important condition: PC, PS4, and PS5 cross-play is supported when a game session is started by inviting friends on PlayStation Network. PlayStation’s current PC support page labels this feature beta, so its status or interface can change.
Julian Huijbregts of Nixxes wrote in a PlayStation.Blog update dated May 14, 2024 that cross-play between PS4 consoles, PS5 consoles, and PC is supported when starting a game session by inviting friends on PlayStation Network. That wording describes an invitation-led session, not automatic cross-platform matchmaking.
What cross-play does not promise
- It does not mean a PC player will automatically be matched with console players.
- It does not remove the PC PlayStation sign-in requirement.
- It does not remove the PlayStation Plus requirement for console online play.
- It does not guarantee that every future interface or beta behavior will remain unchanged.
For a mixed-device group, have the player who can see the relevant PlayStation friends send the invitation, then wait for every invited player to accept before selecting the activity. If a cross-platform session fails to form, confirm the friend relationship and sign-in status first rather than relying on a random matchmaking queue.

Which Legends mode should your group choose?
Choose the activity by both party size and play style. The player counts below are game-design limits described by PlayStation’s Legends information.
| Mode | Party structure | Best fit | What to check before launching |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story | Two players | A cooperative narrative mission for a pair. | Form a two-person party; a larger group cannot enter the same Story activity together. |
| Survival | Four players | A full group that wants wave-based cooperative combat. | Fill up to four players if you want the complete team size. |
| Raid | Four players | A coordinated four-player activity. | Assemble four players before launching; plan around the fixed team size. |
| Rivals | Two teams of two | Competitive play for four players split into opposing pairs. | Arrange four participants and expect the group to be divided into two teams. |
If only two friends are available, Story is the mode specifically sized for that pair. A four-player Survival or Raid party needs two additional players, while Rivals requires four total participants because its format is two teams of two.
How matchmaking works when a friend is missing
Legends also offers matchmaking, so a party does not always have to be filled entirely through direct invitations. However, matchmaking behavior can depend on the activity and the game patch.

- Stunning graphics and gameplay, explore the wild and striking lands around Mount Yotei on foot or horseback. Travel picturesque parts of northern Japan through grasslands, snowy ridges, fields of wildflowers, and more.
- Discover renegade combat, engage in lawless katana combat and battles with adversaires. Train with various sensei as you find and learn to use each new weapon.
- An unconventional story and journey, take in the cultural beauty of Japan, bathe in an onsen, visit shrines to pray, try Sumi-e painting, and so much more.
- Choose your weapon, battle Atsu's opponents as you see fit, with levelled-up dual katanas, odachi, kusarigama and other new weapons.
A recent Sucker Punch patch note says matchmaking can enforce minimum required Ki levels. If a queue is unavailable, check each player’s gear level against the requirement shown in the activity rather than assuming the service is offline. The same patch note describes a prompt that can let remaining party members invite someone or use matchmaking to fill a slot after a player disconnects.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThat behavior is patch-specific. Ki-level checklist
- Open the activity and read its displayed minimum Ki requirement.
- Have every intended player check their current gear level.
- If one player is below the threshold, raise that player’s Ki or choose an activity with a requirement they meet.
- If a member disconnects, look for the prompt to invite a replacement or matchmake into the open slot.
A reliable setup for a mixed PC-and-console party
Use this order when friends are spread across platforms:
- Each player installs the edition that includes Legends and completes the required update.
- Console players sign in to PlayStation Network and confirm PlayStation Plus is active for online play.
- The PC player signs in to PlayStation for online multiplayer.
- All players add one another through the PlayStation friend system if they are not already connected.
- Everyone enters Legends from the title menu, pause menu, Storyteller, or an accepted invitation.
- On PC, open Social, select each PlayStation friend, and choose Send Invite.
- Wait until the invited players accept and appear in the session.
- Select Story, Survival, Raid, or Rivals according to the party size and desired activity.
This sequence follows the documented cross-play condition: the session starts through PlayStation friend invitations. It avoids treating cross-play as an automatic pool that will assemble a mixed-device party without an invitation.

Legends is missing from the menu
On PS4, verify that Ghost of Tsushima is installed, updated to at least patch 1.10 according to the Store listing, and paired with the correct regional Legends unlock. On PS5, confirm that the installed Director’s Cut includes Legends online co-op. On PC, confirm that the PC Director’s Cut is installed and that PlayStation sign-in has completed.
The invite option is unavailable on PC
Return to the title menu, choose Enter Legends Mode, open Social, and select a PlayStation friend. If the friend list is empty, complete PlayStation sign-in and verify that the person is connected through PlayStation’s friend system. The documented PC path does not use an unrelated platform-only friend list for this cross-play invite.
A console player cannot join online
Check the internet connection, PlayStation Network sign-in, and PlayStation Plus status. Both PS4 and PS5 online Legends play require internet access and PlayStation Plus according to PlayStation’s product information.

A PC player cannot join from Steam Deck
PlayStation’s PC support page states that online multiplayer is unavailable on Steam Deck. Use a supported PC configuration instead; changing the invitation method will not remove that platform limitation.
The group cannot queue for an activity
First compare the party with the activity’s player count: Story takes two, Survival and Raid take four, and Rivals uses two teams of two. Then check the displayed minimum Ki level. A recent patch added Ki-based matchmaking requirements, so a queue can be blocked when a player’s gear level is too low.
A disconnected player leaves an empty slot
Watch for the patch-specific prompt that offers either inviting someone or matchmaking to fill the disconnected slot. If it does not appear, return to the normal Social invitation route and rebuild the party manually.
What each platform’s requirements mean in practice
PS4 and PS5 players should plan for a paid online-subscription requirement because PlayStation Plus is listed for Legends Mode online. PC players should plan for a PlayStation account sign-in and a PlayStation-friend invitation when playing with consoles. The available official material does not establish PlayStation Plus as a universal PC requirement, so do not assume that a console subscription is needed simply because a PC friend is joining a PlayStation player.
The edition also matters. PlayStation lists the Director’s Cut for PS4 and PS5 with Legends online co-op included, while PC players need the PC Director’s Cut. Store descriptions can differ by region, so check the listing attached to the account and territory where the game is installed.
Fast answer: the shortest working procedure
- Install and update an edition that includes Legends.
- Meet the platform requirement: PlayStation Plus on PS4/PS5; PlayStation sign-in on PC.
- Enter Legends from the title menu, pause menu, Storyteller, or an invitation.
- On PC, choose Enter Legends Mode → Social → PlayStation friend → Send Invite.
- For cross-play, start the session through PlayStation friend invitations rather than expecting automatic console matchmaking.
- Choose an activity that fits: two-player Story, four-player Survival or Raid, or four-player Rivals divided into two teams.
- If matchmaking refuses the group, check the activity’s minimum Ki requirement and use the documented replacement prompt after a disconnect when available.
The Bottom Line
Invite friends through PlayStation Network after entering Legends. PC, PS4, and PS5 can share an invited session, while console players need PlayStation Plus and PC players need PlayStation sign-in. Match the activity to your party size and check Ki requirements if matchmaking is unavailable.
