HorrorGuessr is GeoGuessr’s Halloween game mode. When the event is active, you progress through a fixed calendar of normal days, Merchant visits, flashlights, shadow-realm stages and boss fights, ending with a final boss on day 30. After that, a repeating ten-day cycle continues the run.

There is an important availability warning: GeoGuessr’s official HorrorGuessr event page currently says “EVENT IS OVER” and adds, “The black pano monster has retreated to the shadows.” That status was displayed on 18 October 2026, so check the official event page before attempting to start a new run. If GeoGuessr reactivates the mode, the steps and calendar below show how to reach the final boss and continue toward full progression.

What HorrorGuessr is

HorrorGuessr uses GeoGuessr’s normal premise: the game drops you into a Street View panorama and asks you to identify the location on a world map. The Halloween mode wraps that location-guessing loop in a day-based progression system. Your run advances through calendar events rather than ending after a single round, so the important question is not only whether you can make a good guess, but also whether you can keep moving through the scheduled days and complete each milestone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The calendar is shared across every difficulty. Choosing a different difficulty does not create a different sequence of days, bosses or Merchant visits. Difficulty-specific modifiers and rewards are documented in the in-game Codex, but the in-game Codex does not state their individual effects.

Is HorrorGuessr still available?

At the time of writing, the official event page marks HorrorGuessr as over. The page’s wording indicates that the seasonal event has ended, not that a hidden unlock is required. Availability can change when GeoGuessr launches or re-runs a seasonal event, so treat the status as time-sensitive rather than permanent.

If the event page still shows the ended message, you cannot legitimately unlock its day-based progression from the live game. Do not buy a controller, headset, atlas or other physical accessory expecting it to enable the mode; progression is delivered digitally through GeoGuessr.

How to start HorrorGuessr when the event is active

  1. Check the official event page first. Confirm that HorrorGuessr is presented as playable rather than displaying the ended-event notice.
  2. Open GeoGuessr on a supported platform. GeoGuessR lists the web version, Steam, iOS and Android. Use the account on which you want the progression recorded.
  3. Find the HorrorGuessr event entry. Seasonal modes are presented inside GeoGuessr’s own game experience. If the event is active but you cannot see it, sign in to the correct account, update the app or reload the web session before troubleshooting further.
  4. Select a difficulty and begin the first day. The calendar is the same on every difficulty, so choose based on the challenge you want rather than expecting a different route.
  5. Record your day and milestone status. The Codex is the authoritative reference for the mode’s items, bosses, titles, difficulties and point system. Use it to verify what the game has credited after each event.

No separate physical game, map book or accessory is required. A supported GeoGuessr account and access to one of the listed digital platforms are the practical prerequisites.

The complete first 30-day calendar

The official HorrorGuessr Codex defines the same calendar for every difficulty. A Merchant visit occurs after a listed day, while a boss or other special event occupies the listed day itself. Use the table as a run plan; the event labels are the progression markers that matter even when the Codex does not disclose their detailed effects.

How the calendar’s special events fit together

Boss days

Before the finale, bosses appear every fifth day: days 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25. Day 30 is the final boss of the initial campaign. The Codex identifies 11 bosses in total, but the official Codex does not provide individual boss names, attack patterns, weaknesses or required items. Do not rely on an unverified “best” tactic; open the in-game Codex for the boss-specific instructions shown in your version of the event.

Merchant visits

The Merchant is a scheduled progression stop, not a random appearance. In the first 30 days, the Codex places visits after days 2, 4, 7, 9, 14, 17, 19, 22 and 27. The pattern is deliberately tied to the boss rhythm: before the early bosses, the second visit between bosses is the night before the boss.

The official Codex does not state the inventory, prices, currency, purchase limits or effects of individual Merchant items. Treat the Merchant screen in your own run as the source of truth, and record purchases if you are trying to complete every item rather than merely reach day 30.

Flashlight days

Flashlight events occur on days 6, 12, 18, 24, 28 and 29 in the opening campaign. The calendar identifies these as milestones, but does not establish what a flashlight changes, whether it is consumed, or which item or title requirements it satisfies. Those details must be read from the active Codex.

Shadow-realm days

The opening schedule contains shadow-realm events on days 16 and 26. They are separate calendar markers from both flashlight and boss days. Because the Codex does not specify their mechanics, avoid assuming that a shadow-realm stage has a particular map pool, penalty or reward until the game displays it.

What happens after day 30?

Defeating the day-30 final boss completes the first campaign block; it does not end the mode’s calendar. The Codex says that the schedule then repeats in ten-day blocks indefinitely. Bosses arrive every tenth day, and the Merchant appears every five days on the night before a flashlight or a boss.

The first displayed repeat block is days 31–40:

Day Scheduled event
31 Repeat-cycle day
32 Repeat-cycle day
33 Repeat-cycle day
34 Merchant visit
35 Repeat-cycle day
36 Repeat-cycle day
37 Repeat-cycle day
38 Repeat-cycle day
39 Merchant visit
40 Boss

After day 40, continue reading the active calendar in ten-day increments. The general rule is more reliable than extrapolating a special event from an isolated day: a boss marks the end of each ten-day block, while Merchant timing is linked to the night before a flashlight or a boss.

What “full progression” can safely mean

The indexed Codex exposes sections for the monster, Merchant, items, bosses, difficulties, titles and the point system. Its navigation lists 121 items and 11 bosses. That establishes the scale of the progression system, but not every unlock condition. The official Codex does not state item effects, title thresholds, difficulty modifiers, point formulas or boss tactics.

Use this completion checklist when HorrorGuessr is available:

  • Start a run and advance through day 30.
  • Defeat each scheduled boss, including the day-30 final boss.
  • Continue into the repeating ten-day calendar instead of stopping at the finale.
  • Visit the Merchant whenever the calendar schedules it and note which entries you have acquired.
  • Complete the flashlight and shadow-realm milestones shown in your run.
  • Open the Codex’s item section to verify the 121-item list and the requirement attached to each entry.
  • Use the boss section to confirm which of the 11 bosses your account has defeated.
  • Check the title, difficulty and point-system sections for thresholds and modifiers; do not infer them from day numbers alone.

This approach separates what the public calendar proves from what the live game must explain. Reaching day 30 is the end of the initial campaign, not proof that every item, title or boss record is complete.

Difficulty, titles and points

Difficulty selection

The calendar does not change with difficulty. A harder setting may alter the way rounds, scoring or encounters work, but the Codex does not publish those modifiers. Select the difficulty you can consistently complete, then read the Codex entry for that difficulty in the active event before planning an optimization route.

Titles

Titles are part of the Codex navigation, which confirms that the mode tracks title-based achievements. No title threshold is stated in the Codex. Check the title section after major milestones rather than assuming that the final boss automatically grants every title.

Points

The Codex includes a point-system section, but it does not provide its formulas and bonuses here. GeoGuessr’s core activity still depends on placing a location guess on the world map; however, you should use the event’s displayed scoring rules for any HorrorGuessr-specific multiplier or bonus.

Troubleshooting a missing or stalled run

The mode does not appear

  • Confirm that the official event page no longer says the event is over.
  • Sign in to the intended GeoGuessr account.
  • Update the Steam, iOS or Android app, or reload the web version.
  • Check whether GeoGuessr has replaced the Halloween event with another seasonal mode.

If the event page still shows the ended status, there is no documented local setting that can unlock the campaign.

A day or Merchant visit seems out of order

Compare your run with the calendar table and distinguish “Merchant after the day” from a Merchant event occupying the day itself. The first 30-day route is fixed across difficulties, so an apparent mismatch is more likely to be an incomplete day, a different account or a changed event version than a secret alternate route.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You cannot find an item or title requirement

The public calendar does not contain the individual unlock rules. Open the live Codex sections for items, titles, bosses, difficulties and points. If a requirement is not displayed there, the Codex does not support a reliable universal threshold.

Progress appears to stop at day 30

Day 30 is the final boss of the opening campaign. After it, the mode should use the repeating ten-day structure when the event is active; check for the next calendar block rather than expecting another one-time campaign finale.

Access, accounts and practical requirements

GeoGuessr lists four supported access routes: web, Steam, iOS and Android. Progression is tied to the active game account and the event implementation, so use one account consistently if you are tracking bosses, items or titles. The mode does not require a physical product, special controller, headset, printed atlas or horror collectible.

GeoGuessr’s public partnership material describes a service with more than 100 million registered players in 190 countries, but that broad audience figure does not establish that HorrorGuessr is currently available in every country or on every account. Seasonal availability should therefore be confirmed in the event page and in your own game client.
