Gears of War: E-Day is included with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on Xbox’s U.S. listing. The game launched worldwide on October 6, 2026. Sign in with an account on an eligible plan, open the Xbox catalog on a supported device, then install the game or launch it through a supported cloud option. Plan names, availability, prices and cloud access can differ by country, so confirm the current Xbox page for your region before subscribing.
Is Gears of War: E-Day on Game Pass?
Yes. Xbox lists Gears of War: E-Day in the Game Pass catalog for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Standard Game Pass access began on the worldwide launch date, October 6, 2026. The game is not an upcoming release: it is already available.

The inclusion is tied to the eligible subscription remaining active. If the game disappears from your installed list after a lapse, signing back into the account with the qualifying subscription normally restores access when the title is still listed in your local catalog. Xbox’s U.S. page is the clearest reference for the two plans named above; local catalogs and plan benefits may differ.
Which Game Pass plan do you need?
| Plan or route | What the published information establishes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Game Pass Ultimate | Xbox lists E-Day as included from October 6, 2026. The launch information also identifies cloud gaming through Ultimate. | Players who want console access and may use cloud gaming, subject to local availability and current terms. |
| PC Game Pass | Xbox lists E-Day as included from October 6, 2026 for Windows PC access. | Players who intend to install and play on a Windows PC through the supported Xbox route. |
| Other Game Pass tiers | The Xbox listing does not establish inclusion. Do not assume that every tier contains E-Day. | Check the current local catalog before relying on a different tier. |
| Premium Edition | A separate paid edition offered early access beginning October 1, five days before standard Game Pass access. | Players who specifically wanted to start before the October 6 launch or wanted edition extras. |
| Collector’s Edition | A physical collector package with collectible items and the Xbox Series X Premium Edition of the game. | Collectors; it is not required to play through an eligible Game Pass subscription. |
No current subscription price is established here. Xbox changes pricing, promotions and plan names by market, so use the subscription page shown for your country rather than an old price quoted elsewhere.

Where can you play E-Day with Game Pass?
Xbox Series X|S
Xbox identifies Xbox Series X|S as a supported console platform. On a console, the practical route is to sign in with the account that holds Game Pass Ultimate, open the Xbox Store or Game Pass catalog, search for Gears of War: E-Day, and select the install option. Exact button labels can change with dashboard updates.
Windows PC
PC Game Pass members can use the supported Xbox access route on Windows. Sign into the Xbox app with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription, locate E-Day in the Game Pass catalog, and choose install. If the Xbox app asks you to install or update related gaming components, complete that prompt before retrying the game installation.
Xbox also describes Xbox Play Anywhere support for playing across Xbox and PC, with shared progression noted in the product-page information. Use the same account on both devices so your saved progress and entitlement are associated with one profile. Xbox’s product-page information does not establish identical performance, graphics settings or feature parity between console and PC.
Recommended Free Tools
Steam
Xbox’s launch announcement names Steam as a PC route for E-Day. That statement confirms Steam as a supported platform, but it does not establish that a Game Pass subscription automatically grants a Steam copy. If you want to use Steam, check the current Steam listing and its ownership requirements separately; use the Xbox app route for the Game Pass entitlement described above.
Cloud gaming
The launch announcement identifies cloud gaming through Game Pass Ultimate. Cloud play depends on the service, your country, the device and the title’s current availability. If E-Day is not shown in the cloud catalog, install it locally on a supported Xbox or Windows PC instead. A compatible controller, a stable connection and a supported browser or app may be required by the cloud service, but Xbox’s published pages do not promise cloud access on every device or in every region.
How to install and start E-Day on Xbox
- Confirm the account. On the console, open your account or subscription settings and verify that the signed-in profile is the one carrying Game Pass Ultimate. If another household member pays for the subscription, use the console’s sharing arrangement that Xbox currently supports, but make sure the account and console settings meet the current terms.
- Open the catalog. Go to the Game Pass area or Microsoft Store and search for Gears of War: E-Day. Select the game’s official listing rather than a trailer, add-on or separately sold edition.
- Check the entitlement label. The listing should show an included-with-Game-Pass or install action for an eligible account. If you see only a purchase price, recheck the account, region and plan before buying.
- Start the installation. Choose Install and select the internal drive or expansion storage offered by the console. Xbox does not state the game’s download size, so leave more free space than the installer requests and follow the console’s displayed requirement.
- Wait for updates. Large games can present a launch icon before all content is ready. Let the console finish the installation and any required update, then start the game from My games & apps.
- Sign in inside the game. Use the same Xbox profile associated with the subscription and your previous saves. If the game opens without recognizing your entitlement, quit it completely, confirm the account, and relaunch.
How to install and play on Windows PC
- Update Windows and the Xbox app. Install pending updates, then open the Xbox app and sign in with the Microsoft account that has PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate.
- Find the title. Search the Game Pass catalog for Gears of War: E-Day. Check that the listing identifies the Windows PC version and shows the included entitlement.
- Select Install. Choose a drive with the free space shown by the installer. Because Xbox does not supply an official storage figure, rely on the current requirement displayed in the app rather than an old article.
- Allow required components. Approve prompts for gaming services or permissions that the Xbox app presents. If installation is stuck, pause and resume it after restarting the app and signing in again.
- Launch from the Xbox app or Start menu. Keep the account consistent. Switching to a different Windows or Microsoft Store account can make an included game appear as unowned.
- Set up cross-device play. If you also play on Xbox, use the same Xbox profile so Play Anywhere synchronization can associate your progress. Do not create a second profile to work around an entitlement error; fix the account mismatch instead.
Can you play the campaign alone or with friends?
Yes. Xbox describes the origin-story campaign as playable solo, in two-player console split-screen, or with online groups of up to four players.
Solo campaign
Choose the campaign and start alone without arranging a multiplayer session. A Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer is not needed merely to play a solo campaign offline, although the game may still require an initial sign-in, updates or other platform checks.
Two-player split-screen
Split-screen is a console-only option according to Xbox’s product information. Connect the second local player’s controller, sign in the second profile when prompted, and select the split-screen campaign option. Xbox’s published material does not claim split-screen support on Windows PC.
Online campaign and multiplayer
Online campaign co-op and other multiplayer features require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer. The exact qualifying tier can change, so verify the current plan description before inviting friends. Xbox describes online groups of up to four players; that is the maximum stated in the launch information, not a guarantee that every mode uses four-player teams.
If an invitation fails, first confirm that every participant is signed into the intended Xbox account, has the required online entitlement, has installed the same game update, and is playing on a supported platform. Privacy, cross-network and child-account settings can also prevent invitations; review those settings on each account rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game.
Can you play E-Day early with Game Pass?
Not through the ordinary Game Pass launch window. Premium Edition players were allowed to begin on October 1, 2026. Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members joined on October 6, the worldwide launch date. Early access was an entitlement of the Premium Edition, not a standard benefit automatically granted by having Game Pass.

Because those dates have passed, a new subscriber in October 2026 should expect the normal catalog release rather than a separate five-day early-access period. If an edition page advertises a new promotion later, read its dates and eligibility carefully; do not assume that every Premium purchase changes the Game Pass start date.
Subscription access versus buying an edition
| Question | Eligible Game Pass plan | Premium Edition | Collector’s Edition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Can you play E-Day? | Yes, while the game remains included and the subscription is active. | Yes, as a purchased edition. | Yes, as a purchased edition that includes the Xbox Series X Premium Edition. |
| Launch timing stated by Xbox | October 6, 2026. | Early access from October 1, 2026. | Exact access timing depends on the included edition and purchase terms; Xbox’s information does not give a separate date. |
| Physical collectibles | None implied by the subscription. | Edition extras may apply, but Xbox’s published pages do not provide a complete collectibles list. | Yes; Xbox describes physical collectible items. |
| Required for Game Pass play? | No purchase beyond the eligible subscription. | No. | No. |
Choose the subscription if your goal is simply to play while the title is included. Consider a paid edition only if you need permanent ownership, early access at the time it was offered, edition bonuses or physical collectibles. Verify retailer stock and the exact contents before buying a collector package.

The game shows a purchase price instead of Install
- Sign out of the Xbox app or console profile and sign back into the account that holds Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass.
- Check whether your subscription is active and whether E-Day is listed in your local catalog.
- Confirm that your device and region match a supported Xbox listing. A catalog can differ between countries.
- Restart the Xbox app or console after a subscription change so the entitlement can refresh.
The Xbox app cannot install the PC version
- Install pending Windows and Xbox app updates.
- Check the drive selected in the installer and the free-space requirement displayed there.
- Make sure Microsoft Store and Xbox app accounts are not different. A mismatch can make the catalog treat the game as unowned.
- Pause and resume the download, then restart the app if the progress remains unchanged.
Cloud play is missing
Cloud access is identified with Game Pass Ultimate, but it is not universal. Confirm that your country, device, browser or app and the current E-Day cloud listing are supported. If the title is not offered for streaming, install it on Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC instead. Do not upgrade solely for cloud play until the local catalog confirms that E-Day is streamable.
Online co-op is blocked
- Verify that the account’s current plan includes online multiplayer, not just catalog downloads.
- Install the same game update on every player’s device.
- Check privacy, communication and multiplayer permissions for child or managed accounts.
- Test the campaign solo to distinguish an online entitlement problem from a general installation problem.
Progress is not appearing on another device
Use the same Xbox account on both Xbox and Windows and allow the game to finish synchronizing before closing it. Xbox identifies Play Anywhere and shared progression, but synchronization can be delayed by an offline session or an account mismatch. Do not delete local saves while troubleshooting; first reconnect the original profile and allow the service to sync.

The strongest inclusion statement comes from Xbox’s U.S. product page. Microsoft can change plan names, prices, catalog rights and online-multiplayer requirements by country. Before subscribing, open the Xbox page served for your location and check four items: whether E-Day is listed, which tier includes it, whether your platform is supported, and whether cloud or online multiplayer benefits are included.
Family, shared-console and managed-account rules also vary. A console can display a game in the catalog while a particular child account lacks permission to install or play it. Resolve those restrictions through the account owner’s family and privacy settings rather than purchasing a second copy immediately.
Quick Recap
