For a stronger start in Gears of War: E-Day, treat cover, movement, weapon choice, and enemy behavior as parts of the same fight. These 15 tips draw on the game’s official descriptions and a launch-window review; they are recommendations, not guaranteed tactics or firsthand test results.
15 tips for the E-Day campaign
1. Use cover as a starting point, not a permanent position
E-Day keeps Gears’ cover-based combat while updating movement and traversal. Take cover to manage exposure, then look for a sensible way to reposition when the encounter changes. The Coalition identifies movement, cover, weapons, and enemies as the game’s core gameplay pillars (The Coalition’s gameplay update).
2. Look for routes through lower cover
A Windows Central campaign review reports that players can take cover in lower spaces than in earlier entries. Scan the environment for routes that let you move between positions rather than assuming every useful barrier is a tall wall (Windows Central’s review).

The same review notes climbing and vaulting. Use those traversal options to explore another route or shift your angle when the layout allows it; crossing an obstacle is not automatically safe, so consider enemy positions before committing.

- A DARKER, GRITTIER THREAT — Face reimagined enemies and a terrifying underground invasion that restores the fear, dread, and intensity at the heart of the Gears of War series.

- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play online with up to four players across Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus, or team up locally with 2‑player split‑screen co‑op on console.
4. Reassess your weapon when the enemy mix changes
The Coalition describes enemy combinations and weapon choice as part of the encounter puzzle. If a weapon that worked against one group is no longer serving you, consider switching to something better suited to the opponents in front of you rather than sticking with one approach throughout the fight.
5. Read the layout before committing
Notice the available cover, open ground, and routes between positions. The Coalition says encounter layout helps shape combat alongside enemy combinations, weapon choice, and player skill. Its summary: “The mix of enemy combinations, layout, weapon choice and player skill is what makes Gears feel like Gears” (The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day Gameplay Updates).
6. Watch how different enemies respond to damage
Windows Central’s reviewer observed destructible armor and hit reactions on some earlier enemies, but less reaction from some larger ones. Treat those details as one reviewer’s observations, not a universal rule for every enemy. Pay attention to what an opponent’s reaction tells you about whether your current attack is having an effect.

7. Don’t pursue every pickup automatically
Exploration can uncover useful items, but it can also pull you away from the campaign’s pace. Windows Central’s reviewer found some searches for weapon modifications disruptive and some pickups irrelevant to their preferred weapons. Weigh a detour against what you actually need rather than clearing every corner by default.
8. Check whether a modification fits your loadout
A found weapon modification is more valuable when it supports a weapon you use. The same review notes that some field modifications may be for weapons a player would not want to carry. Check what the pickup applies to before changing your plans around it.
9. Coordinate with co-op partners around the situation
Official gameplay materials describe enemies as creating different challenges and opportunities in co-op. Talk through the immediate problem—such as which opponent or position needs attention—and adapt your roles to the encounter instead of assuming one fixed division of duties will work everywhere.

10. Choose the campaign format that suits your group
The campaign supports solo play, two-player split-screen on console, and online co-op for up to four players. Split-screen is console-only. Pick the format before arranging a session so everyone knows whether they need to join locally or online (Xbox’s game listing).

Xbox says online campaign co-op and other online multiplayer require a Game Pass subscription that includes online multiplayer, sold separately. Confirm that each player has the access needed for the planned session; local console split-screen does not use the online co-op format (Xbox’s game listing).
Tips for E-Day multiplayer
12. Pick a Horde Siege class with the squad in mind
Horde Siege is a co-op, wave-survival mode with four listed classes: Assault, Marksman, Medic, and Breacher. Consider what your group wants to handle, but do not assume the available information establishes one universally best class. The class roster is described in the official launch overview.

13. Think of Horde Siege equipment as a combination
The Coalition says players can combine armor, tactical gear, and weapon modifications in Horde Siege, and that these interactions matter more at higher difficulties. Consider how your choices work together, not just whether one item sounds appealing (The Coalition’s multiplayer overview).
14. Experiment before settling on a high-difficulty setup
Official multiplayer guidance emphasizes finding useful connections among modifications. Try combinations and see which suit your squad and approach before treating a setup as settled. The published guidance does not establish named builds or exact stat benefits, so avoid relying on claims it does not make.
15. Treat Versus as a different kind of fight
Versus is competitive PvP, distinct from the campaign and Horde Siege. Although it also features updated movement and combat, campaign advice is not automatically a PvP strategy. Adjust to the competitive mode instead of assuming a route or habit from the campaign will transfer unchanged (The Coalition’s multiplayer overview).

- Listen up, soldier. The world is in ruin. The Locust Horde has risen. It’s Human vs Horde, and here’s your mission: Pick a side, build a powerful deck, and win the war. The fate of the world is in your hands!
- Experience the gritty gunplay of the video game in this official two-player card game. Take command of the COG forces or the Locust horde and seize control of the battlefield, one chapter at a time.
- Strategise your way through each chapter, bolstering your forces with classic characters like Marcus Fenix, General Raam, August “Cole Train” Cole, Dominic Santiago, and Damon Baird.
- Every battle counts. Whatever happens in each chapter will change what comes next, so you’d better be ready to dominate. The deck you build and decisions you make will change the way you play each campaign, making this a game you can reload time and time again.
- Whether you're a hardened vet or a grass-green rookie, get ready to take cover and lay down suppressive fire. Your enemies are trying to take the line, soldier. You’d better shove back hard.
