You can stream eligible PlayStation Plus games to a Windows PC through Sony’s PlayStation Plus app, without owning a PS5 console. You need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, an adult PlayStation account, a compatible controller, and a reliable internet connection. This does not install PS5 games on Windows: the game runs as a cloud stream, and only titles Sony makes available to stream in your region are playable this way.
What you can—and cannot—play on a PC
Sony’s PC route is cloud streaming in the PlayStation Plus app. You sign in, choose a streamable game and play over the internet. The app is not a way to download or run the PS5 version of a game locally on a PC, and it does not make every PS5 game available.
Sony’s US PlayStation Plus page says PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5 console. That is separate from streaming: a game must be offered for streaming and available for your account’s region to play it through the PC app. Sony warns that some games cannot be streamed. Check the game’s listing and streaming availability before subscribing solely to play a particular title; a game being available on PS5 does not by itself establish that it can be streamed on PC.
You do not need a PS5 console in the PC app setup described by Sony. The requirements are a Windows PC, an adult PlayStation account, Premium, broadband and a compatible controller. Do not confuse this process with Remote Play, which is a separate way to connect to a console you own. This guide covers PlayStation Plus cloud streaming, not Remote Play.

“PS5 games on PC” therefore describes a particular access method, not a Windows release. Sony’s service sends the game’s video and audio output to your computer while your controller input travels back to the service. You are selecting a supported cloud session in Sony’s app, rather than copying a PS5 installation onto a hard drive. A PC that meets the app’s requirements is not automatically capable of running PS5 software locally.

Premium is the relevant subscription tier
Essential and Extra are not interchangeable with Premium for this purpose. Sony’s plan comparison places cloud streaming under Premium. If your account is on another tier, the PC app’s streaming capability is not established simply because you can sign in to PlayStation Network or browse PlayStation Plus content.
Regional catalogues and plan availability can differ. Confirm both that Premium is sold for your account’s region and that the exact game is marked as streamable there. Checking only a game’s console listing can lead to a mistaken subscription decision.

Sony’s Ireland PC support guide lists these figures. They are specifications displayed on that page, not independent performance measurements, and the operating-system listings may be dated. Check Sony’s current app download information for compatibility with your Windows version rather than using this table as current PC-buying advice.

The app is for streaming, so these figures describe the PC app’s stated requirements; they do not mean that a PC can install and run PS5 games locally. Sony’s cited PC setup information is for Windows. It does not establish Mac or Linux support.
Understand the two bandwidth figures
Sony’s PC guide gives 5 Mbps as the minimum high-speed connection for streaming. The US PlayStation Plus page states 15 Mbps for 1080p. Treat these as service thresholds, not a guarantee that every connection meeting them will feel identical. Sony does not present either number as an independent measurement of latency, stability or image quality.
A wired connection is Sony’s recommendation. Ethernet can be useful when Wi-Fi is congested or inconsistent, but the important point is stability as well as the headline download speed. If a connection repeatedly falls below the stated threshold, a stream may be unsuitable even when a speed test occasionally reports a higher result.

Set up PlayStation Plus streaming on your PC
- Confirm the plan and game. Make sure Premium is available for your account region and that the game you want is specifically marked as streamable there. Some games are excluded, and availability can differ by region. Checking this first prevents paying for Premium for a title that cannot be streamed.
- Review Sony’s current compatibility information. Sony’s regional support pages do not necessarily change at the same time. Use the current app download page for the Windows compatibility information, and regard the Ireland page’s Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 figures as the specifications shown on that page rather than a current promise for every PC.
- Get Sony’s PlayStation Plus app. On your Windows PC, use Sony’s app download page to obtain and install the current PC app. The app is the cloud-streaming route described here; installing it does not download a PS5 game to your computer.
- Sign in to the app. Use an adult PlayStation account that has an active Premium subscription. Sony’s US page states that PC App streaming requires an account holder aged 18 or older. A child account or a non-Premium account therefore does not satisfy the stated streaming requirement.
- Connect a controller. Attach a compatible controller to the PC before starting a game. Sony names the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller. Certain third-party XInput controllers may also work, but support is not guaranteed. You can use a keyboard and mouse to browse the app, not as the supported way to play a streamed game.
- Open the game listing. Browse the catalogue and open the listing for the title you want. Look for the streaming option rather than assuming that every title shown in PlayStation Plus can be launched from a PC. If the option is missing, verify the account region and the game’s eligibility.
- Start the stream. Select the available streaming command and wait for the session to begin. The game is being delivered from Sony’s service; there is no PS5 installation step on Windows.
- Check the connection if play is unstable. Sony specifies at least 5 Mbps for PC streaming, gives 15 Mbps for 1080p on its US page, and recommends a wired connection. A connection meeting a speed threshold does not establish that latency or Wi-Fi interference will be suitable; use a wired connection where possible and check that the connection is stable.
Streaming versus downloading a PS5 game
The difference is where the game runs. In the PC app, an eligible game is streamed from Sony’s service to your PC. A PS5 download is installed on a PS5 console instead; Sony says PS5 games can only be downloaded to a PS5. The PC app is therefore an option for supported streaming, not a substitute for a PC version or a local PS5 installation.

These routes also should not be conflated with Remote Play. The PlayStation Plus PC app uses cloud streaming; Remote Play is a separate Sony feature and is not the setup described here. Remote Play discussions about connecting to a console do not add a PS5 requirement to the Premium PC-app workflow.
Controller, audio and feature limitations
Controller input
Sony’s PC guide specifically names the DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller. A third-party XInput controller may function, but Sony does not promise complete compatibility. If the app can be browsed with a keyboard and mouse, that does not mean those inputs will control the game: Sony says a compatible controller is needed to play.
The DUALSHOCK 4 is therefore the clearest choice when you want to stay within Sony’s named compatibility list. It is an optional hardware purchase, not an additional subscription requirement. If you use another PC controller, treat successful operation as possible rather than guaranteed and test it before relying on it for a long session.

During play, game audio is sent to the PC’s speakers or headphones. Sony says a headset plugged into the controller will not work for this PC streaming setup, so connect headphones to the PC instead if you want private audio. This is a PC-app limitation even if the same headset works when the controller is used with a console.
DLC and party chat
- Sony’s PC guide says game add-ons and downloadable content cannot be used while streaming a PlayStation Plus game.
- PlayStation Plus on PC does not currently support Party Chat, according to Sony’s PC guide.
These limitations apply to the PC app workflow; do not assume that features available when playing a game on a console are also available in the PC stream. If a particular expansion or add-on is essential, verify that limitation before choosing streaming as your route.
Common problems and what to check
The game is not available to stream
Check the game’s listing in the app and confirm that it is offered for streaming in your account’s region. Sony excludes some games from streaming, so neither a Premium subscription nor the existence of a PS5 version guarantees access through the PC app. If you expected to download the PS5 game to Windows, that is not what the app does; Sony says PS5 game downloads are for PS5 consoles.

Premium is active but streaming is unavailable
- Confirm that the subscription is actually Premium, since Sony lists cloud streaming under Premium rather than Essential or Extra.
- Check that the signed-in account is an adult account. Sony’s US plan page specifies 18 or older for PC App streaming.
- Verify the account region and the game’s regional listing. Catalogue and streaming eligibility can differ by region.
- Sign out and confirm that the app is using the account with the active subscription, rather than another account on the PC.
You cannot launch a stream
- Check that the title is streamable in your region rather than merely present in a console catalogue.
- Verify that your PC and app meet Sony’s current compatibility requirements using Sony’s app download information. The Ireland support page’s Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 listings may not be current.
- Make sure the app is installed from Sony’s current download page and that the controller is connected before launching the game.
The controller does not work in the game
Use a compatible controller, with the DUALSHOCK 4 being the model specifically named by Sony. Keyboard and mouse support app navigation, not gameplay. Some XInput controllers may work, but Sony does not guarantee full compatibility. If one controller fails, that does not prove the game is unavailable; it may indicate an input-compatibility issue.
The stream is poor or audio is going to the wrong device
Check the internet connection against Sony’s stated minimum of 5 Mbps; Sony’s US page gives 15 Mbps for 1080p. Prefer wired internet if available, as Sony recommends it. A speed number alone does not promise low latency or uninterrupted playback. For audio, select PC speakers or headphones: a headset plugged into the controller will not carry the streamed game audio.
You expected party chat or add-ons
Party Chat is not currently supported in PlayStation Plus on PC, and Sony’s guide says game add-ons and DLC cannot be used while streaming a PlayStation Plus game. Those are service limitations, not signs that the Windows installation is incomplete.
Before subscribing just to play one game
- Confirm that Premium is offered in your region and that the account meets the adult-account requirement.
- Check the specific game listing for streaming availability in your region; some titles cannot be streamed.
- Make sure you have a compatible controller and a Windows PC that meets Sony’s current app requirements.
- Confirm that your connection can provide at least 5 Mbps; if you want the 1080p threshold Sony states for the US page, plan for 15 Mbps and favor Ethernet.
- Consider whether the streaming limitations matter for your use: DLC/add-ons are unavailable while streaming a PlayStation Plus game, controller-connected headset audio does not work, and PC Party Chat is unsupported.
- Decide whether cloud access meets your needs. The PC app streams an eligible title; it does not provide a local PS5 download or guarantee access to every PS5 game.
Sony’s current US plan and support pages provide the 15 Mbps 1080p threshold and 18+ PC streaming requirement; its Ireland PC guide provides the app setup steps, 5 Mbps minimum and PC-specific limitations. Plan features and game availability can vary by region, and Sony’s support information may change, so confirm the current listing and app requirements for your account before relying on them.
