Install DUSK through its official Steam listing, confirm that your computer meets the published requirements, launch the game, then open Settings → Feel → Bindings to inspect or change controls. Keyboard and mouse are the clearest baseline for DUSK’s fast first-person combat; controller support was improved in a later PC update, but controller players should verify every essential action in the current binding screen.
What you need to play DUSK on a modern PC
DUSK is a fast first-person shooter released on Steam on December 10, 2018. The Steam edition includes Windows, macOS and SteamOS/Linux versions. The store page lists a campaign, Endless Survival Mode and DUSKWorld arena multiplayer, and it carries a mature-content notice for pixelated blood and gore.
“Modern PC” does not mean that the game itself demands modern gaming hardware. Its published requirements are modest, although the Steam client may require a newer operating system than the game’s historical minimum. Check the current Steam store page and Steam client support before installing on an old Windows setup.

| Operating system | Windows 7 or later | Windows 10 |
| Processor | 2.4 GHz dual-core processor or higher | 2.4 GHz quad-core processor or higher |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM | 4 GB RAM |

| Graphics API | DirectX 9 | Not separately stated |
| Storage | 2 GB available space | 2 GB available space |
| Internet | Not required in the game’s minimum listing | Broadband internet is listed for network features |
The macOS and SteamOS/Linux versions also have requirements published on Steam and in support information. Those requirements can change as storefront and operating-system support changes, so verify the current listing for your platform rather than applying the Windows figures to another operating system.

The figures are a compatibility guide, not a promise of a particular frame rate or visual setting. A computer that clears the minimum specification has the listed processor, memory and graphics capability, but the game, operating system, drivers and Steam client still need to work together. The recommended column gives more headroom, especially for a system that will also run Steam features or network modes. If your machine is close to the minimum, close unnecessary applications and make sure the graphics driver is current before diagnosing a launch problem.
What is included in the PC release?
The Steam listing describes three distinct ways to use the game. The campaign is the main single-player progression. Endless Survival Mode is a separate mode built around continued survival, while DUSKWorld is an arena multiplayer mode. These labels matter when you test controls: a layout that feels comfortable for campaign movement should also be checked with rapid weapon selection and camera control before entering a competitive or higher-pressure mode.
DUSK also carries a mature-content notice for pixelated blood and gore. That is part of the store description and is worth knowing before installation, particularly when the game will be shared with other people or played on a family computer.
Install and launch DUSK through Steam
- Install or update the Steam client. On older Windows installations, check whether the current Steam client still supports the operating system even if the game listing says Windows 7 or later.
- Open the official DUSK Steam listing. Confirm that the page offers the edition for your operating system and review the current requirements.
- Install the game to a drive with at least 2 GB free. Leaving additional free space helps Steam complete downloads, updates and temporary files.
- Wait for Steam to finish validating the installation. Do not start the game until the download and any queued update have completed.
- Launch DUSK from your Steam library. If you use a controller, connect it before launching so the game can detect the device during startup.
- Open Settings before beginning a serious run. Go to the Feel tab and then Bindings. Confirm movement, aiming, firing, jumping, crouching, interacting and weapon selection before entering a campaign level.
The game’s published requirement is 2 GB of storage, but available disk space, graphics drivers and the Steam client are separate practical considerations. If the game does not start, first confirm that Steam itself runs correctly on the operating system, then update the graphics driver and use Steam’s installation-verification option before changing game files.
A wired connection is not required merely to launch the game according to the minimum listing. Broadband internet appears in the recommended listing for network features, so plan for connectivity if you intend to use those features. For an offline campaign setup, finish the Steam download and updates first, then test the installed game while you still have access to the client.
Understand the default keyboard and mouse controls
The developer’s documented layout is a useful starting point. “Mouse 0” means the primary mouse button, “Mouse 1” the secondary button and “Mouse 2” the middle-mouse button in the game’s terminology.

| Action | Default input | What to check in play |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W / A / S / D | Forward, left, back and right movement |
| Jump | Space | Confirm that jumping works while moving |
| Crouch | Left Ctrl | Check whether you prefer hold or toggle behavior, if available |
| Walk | Left Shift | Useful when you need slower movement |
| Fire or throw | Mouse 0 | Primary attack and throwable use |
| Zoom | Mouse 1 | Secondary mouse input |
| Quick melee | Mouse 2 | Middle-button press |
| Interact or use | E | Doors, objects and other context actions |
| Flashlight | F | Toggle the flashlight when needed |
| Flip weapon | R | Weapon-flip action |
| Holster | H | Put the current weapon away |
| Last used weapon | Q | Return to the previously selected weapon |
| Direct weapon selection | 1 through 0 | Number-row weapon slots |
| Toggle stats | Tab | Show or hide statistics |
| Quick save | F6 | Save during gameplay |
| Quick load | F9 | Load the quick save |
| Restart | F1 | Restart the current situation |
Test the controls in a safe area rather than discovering a bad binding during a difficult fight. In particular, check that the mouse buttons produce the action you expect, that the number row selects the intended weapons, and that F6, F9 and F1 are not being pressed accidentally.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The layout separates movement, combat, utility and save-management actions. That makes it easier to troubleshoot one category at a time. First confirm W/A/S/D and the mouse, then check jump, crouch and walk, and finally test interaction, flashlight, weapon handling and the function-key commands. If one physical key is uncomfortable, change that single action rather than rebuilding the entire layout immediately.
Change key bindings in DUSK
- Launch DUSK and choose Settings from the main menu or pause menu.
- Select the Feel tab.
- Open Bindings.
- Select the action you want to change.
- Press the keyboard key or mouse input you want to assign.
- Review the complete layout before leaving the menu. Look for duplicate assignments that could make one input perform two competing actions.
- Return to gameplay and test movement, jump, crouch, fire, zoom, interact, flashlight and weapon selection in a low-pressure area.
DUSK’s developer explained that “Most, but not all things can be re-bound to whatever key (or input) you need.” Gameplay-centric actions can be rebound, while some menu controls remain hard-bound. If the in-game menu does not expose an input you need, the developer also noted that an INI configuration can assist with additional mouse, wheel, alphabetic and function-key inputs. Edit configuration files only after closing the game, keep a backup of the original file, and change one assignment at a time so you can identify a mistake.
A practical layout for keyboard and mouse
- Keep movement on W/A/S/D unless you have a specific accessibility reason to move it.
- Place crouch and quick melee where they can be reached without taking your main movement fingers away from the controls.
- Keep fire and zoom on the mouse if that arrangement feels natural; DUSK’s documented defaults already use the primary and secondary mouse buttons.
- Use the number row for direct weapon selection, or move selection to a reachable alternative if your keyboard makes the row uncomfortable.
- Leave quick save, quick load and restart on clearly separated keys so an accidental press does not interrupt play.
Players with a left-handed setup or an alternate keyboard layout can use Feel → Bindings to move many gameplay actions to a more reachable side. Build the arrangement around the actions used during movement and combat first. Then assign utility commands such as the flashlight, interact, holster and weapon flip. Keep a familiar key or device available for menus because not every menu command is exposed for rebinding.
Use a controller on PC
DUSK’s PC controller support was improved in an official update. The announcement lists a weapon wheel, better controller bindings, DualShock 4 support, and Auto-Hop and Auto-Climb options. It does not publish a complete current button chart, so a controller player should treat the in-game binding screen as the authoritative layout for the installed version.

- Start the game and open Settings → Feel → Bindings.
- Inspect the bindings for movement, camera control, jump, crouch, fire, zoom, melee, interact, flashlight and weapon selection.
- Check how the weapon wheel opens and how a weapon is confirmed. Practice selecting a weapon without looking away from the action.
- Try Auto-Hop and Auto-Climb if repeated jumping or climbing inputs are uncomfortable. Keep them disabled if you want manual timing.
- Test the complete arrangement in a safe area before starting a campaign level or entering DUSKWorld.
There is no published benchmark showing that a controller is faster, more accurate or lower-latency than a keyboard and mouse in DUSK. Choose based on how you aim, how many weapon inputs you want immediately available, your comfort during long sessions and any accessibility needs.

Do not assume that a controller’s familiar button labels match the current DUSK layout. Confirm the camera, triggers, face buttons, stick clicks and weapon-wheel behavior individually. If a controller is connected but the game shows keyboard prompts or no input, close the game, reconnect the device and relaunch before rechecking Steam’s controller settings.
Keyboard and mouse versus controller
| Consideration | Keyboard and mouse | Controller |
|---|---|---|
| Aiming | Mouse aiming is the direct baseline for a PC first-person shooter and offers fine hand positioning. | Analog camera control may feel more comfortable if you prefer a gamepad, but the available evidence does not establish a performance advantage. |
| Weapon access | The default number row provides direct slots from 1 through 0; bindings can be changed. | A weapon wheel is available after the controller-focused update; verify its current behavior in-game. |
| Long-session comfort | Depends on desk, keyboard and mouse posture and the reach of your chosen bindings. | May suit players who prefer a single handheld device; comfort depends on the controller and grip. |
| Accessibility | Feel → Bindings supports alternate keyboard and mouse arrangements for many gameplay actions. | Improved bindings, DualShock 4 support and Auto-Hop/Auto-Climb provide additional options. |
| Analog movement | Digital WASD movement is the default. | Analog sticks provide graduated movement if that is your preference. |
Neither option is universally best. Start with the device that lets you keep movement, aiming and emergency actions under control, then adjust the bindings instead of forcing yourself to use the defaults.
Choose simple accessories that solve a real control problem
A USB gaming mouse is the most directly relevant accessory because DUSK’s documented layout assigns fire, zoom and quick melee to mouse inputs. Choose one with buttons that you can reach without shifting your hand away from aiming, rather than buying extra buttons you will not use.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
A USB keyboard is a secondary fit for players who need a full number row, function keys or a different physical layout. It can also help when a laptop keyboard makes Left Ctrl, Left Shift or the number row difficult to reach. DUSK does not require a specialized keyboard or mouse; the accessory should address your reach, comfort or accessibility needs.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
The game will not launch
- Confirm that Steam is installed and can sign in on your operating system. Steam client support can be stricter than the game’s Windows 7 minimum listing.
- Check that at least 2 GB of free storage is available, then leave additional room for updates.
- Verify the game installation through Steam.
- Update the graphics driver and restart the computer.
- On macOS or SteamOS/Linux, compare your system with the current platform-specific listing instead of using the Windows table.
If the failure occurs immediately after an update, allow Steam to finish every queued download before trying again. If the game runs but the controls do not, treat that as an input-configuration issue rather than a hardware-requirement failure: open Feel → Bindings and inspect the installed layout.
The controller is connected but controls do not work
- Close DUSK, connect the controller, and relaunch the game.
- Check that Steam detects the controller and that the correct controller support option is enabled.
- Open Settings → Feel → Bindings and assign or confirm each essential action.
- Test the sticks, triggers, face buttons, weapon wheel and menu navigation separately.
- If a second input device is connected, disconnect it temporarily to rule out conflicting input.
A key performs the wrong action
Return to Feel → Bindings, select the affected action and assign the intended key again. Review neighboring actions for duplicate assignments. If the needed mouse, wheel, alphabetic or function-key input is not available in the menu, use the INI approach described by the developer, keeping a backup before editing.

I cannot find a menu control to rebind
Not every control is exposed for rebinding. The developer specifically noted that some menu controls remain hard-bound even though most gameplay actions can be changed. Keep a known-working keyboard or controller available for menu navigation while you customize gameplay inputs.

The game works, but the layout feels awkward
Do not change every action at once. Keep W/A/S/D or your preferred movement cluster, then move crouch, melee and interact to reachable positions. Test one change in a safe area, confirm that it does not duplicate another action, and only then adjust the next control. This process is especially useful on compact laptop keyboards where the number row, function keys or Left Ctrl may be difficult to reach.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Verify your setup before starting a campaign
- Move in all four directions and confirm that the camera responds as expected.
- Jump, crouch and walk without losing control of movement.
- Fire, zoom and quick-melee from the mouse or controller.
- Interact with an object and toggle the flashlight.
- Select several weapons directly or through the weapon wheel, then return to the last-used weapon.
- Check holster and weapon-flip actions if you intend to use them.
- Confirm that the stats display, quick save, quick load and restart keys are deliberate choices.
- Play a short, low-pressure section before committing to a long session.
Once these checks pass, DUSK is ready to play on a broad range of PCs that meet its published requirements. Keyboard and mouse provide the most straightforward starting layout, while the improved controller options let gamepad users build a workable setup by verifying bindings in the current PC release.
