There are two different ways to play Door Kickers 2 on Android with a controller. A community FAQ updated in September 2026 links to an Android pre-release, but the available information does not confirm that the native Android app accepts external gamepads. The documented, repeatable method is to stream the PC version with Steam Link: the game runs on a computer, while your Android phone or tablet displays it and sends controller input.
If you need confirmed controller setup, use Steam Link and a computer running Steam. If you want a native installation, check the current Android listing and the app’s own settings, then test your controller before depending on it. Do not treat Steam Input layouts for the PC game as proof that the native Android build supports a gamepad.
Choose between native Android and Steam Link
The two routes solve different problems. The native route installs an Android build on the device itself, but controller compatibility, supported models, button mappings, availability, and device requirements have not been established by the current developer material reviewed for this guide. Steam Link is better documented: it streams an existing PC installation and explicitly supports pairing a Bluetooth controller or Steam Controller with Android.

Use the native route only when you specifically want an Android installation and are willing to verify support yourself. Use Steam Link when you already own or can access the PC game and want the clearest controller path.

Using the native Android pre-release
What is actually confirmed
The strongest current signal for native Android play is a community FAQ updated in September 2026 that links to an Android pre-release. That reference is not a detailed developer compatibility guide or a guaranteed public store release. It does not state which Android versions, phones, tablets, controllers, or button layouts are supported, and it does not confirm whether the pre-release is available in every country.
Before installing anything, open the developer-linked Google Play destination from the current FAQ and read the live listing. Check the app’s publisher, release status, device eligibility, region availability, and update date. A pre-release link can change, require enrollment, or disappear while the project is being revised.
Native setup steps
- Find the current listing. Start from the latest Door Kickers 2 Android reference published by the developer or its community FAQ. Confirm that the listing is genuine and that your device is eligible.
- Install or join the pre-release. Follow the store’s enrollment or installation instructions. Do not assume that owning the PC edition grants access to the Android build.
- Pair the controller with Android. Put the controller into pairing mode and use Android’s Bluetooth settings. Follow the controller maker’s pairing procedure; the game-specific sources do not identify a universal pairing sequence.

If the native app does not respond
- Disconnect and reconnect the controller in Android Bluetooth settings, then restart the game.
- Check whether the app has a separate controller toggle or profile-selection screen.
- Test the controller in another Android game or in Android’s own input diagnostics to distinguish a system pairing problem from an app limitation.
- Install any available app update and recheck the current store description or developer notes.
- Do not import the PC version’s Steam Input layout and assume it will work. Steam Input is a PC-side configuration system; it does not establish native Android mappings.
If these checks fail, the evidence available today does not provide an authoritative native mapping or a list of guaranteed Android controllers. The correct conclusion is that support is unverified for that build, not that a particular phone or controller is defective.
Streaming the PC game with Steam Link
Requirements
Steam Link does not install a mobile copy of Door Kickers 2. Valve describes it as an Android app that pairs a Bluetooth controller or Steam Controller with the Android device, connects to a computer running Steam, and plays existing Steam games. The PC is the host: it launches the game, renders the video, and receives the input.

- A computer with Steam installed and the PC version of Door Kickers 2 available in its library.
- An Android phone or tablet with the Steam Link app installed.
- A Bluetooth controller or Steam Controller that Android and Steam Link can recognize.
- The host computer and Android device connected to the same local network.
- A 5 GHz Wi-Fi router. For a phone or tablet, Valve recommends connecting the host computer to that router by Ethernet.
The controller is an accessory for the streamed PC session. Pairing it successfully with Android does not prove that the native Android pre-release supports the same device.
Steam Link setup, step by step
- Prepare the host computer. Install or update Steam, sign in to the account containing Door Kickers 2, and leave Steam running. Make sure the game can start locally on the computer before troubleshooting streaming.
- Improve the network path. Connect the computer to the router with Ethernet when practical. Connect the Android device to the router’s 5 GHz Wi-Fi network rather than a distant or congested connection.
- Install Steam Link. Download Steam Link from the official Android app listing and open it.
- Pair the controller with Android. Put the controller in Bluetooth pairing mode, open Android’s Bluetooth settings, select it, and complete pairing. A Steam Controller can also be paired according to its own procedure.
- Connect Steam Link to the host. Follow the app’s on-screen pairing process. Steam Link normally asks you to select the computer running Steam and may display a code that must be entered on the host.
- Run the connection test. Complete Steam Link’s test before launching the game. Resolve a missing host, pairing error, or network warning at this stage rather than inside a mission.
- Start the PC game. From Steam Link’s library view, select Door Kickers 2 and launch it. The game remains installed and running on the computer; Android is the streaming client.
- Select a Steam Input layout if necessary. When Steam presents controller layouts, choose the official Xbox or PlayStation configuration supplied for the PC game, then verify the bindings in a low-risk session.

Steam Support lists the following inputs as supported starting points for streaming to Android:

Why Steam Input is required
The developer has described controller use for the PC edition as an official Steam Input configuration, not native gamepad support. In a Steam Community discussion on February 10, 2025, Door Kickers 2 developer Pintea wrote: “We have official steam input configurations for xbox/ps controllers. Not native, but at least you can do everything you need in the game.”

In another response to a question about an Xbox One controller, the developer said: “No native support, but there is an official XBOX controller config.” These statements concern the PC game being streamed through Steam Link. They should not be presented as confirmation that the Android pre-release has the same mappings.
What the layout changes
Steam Input translates controller buttons and sticks into the actions the PC game expects. Depending on the selected official layout, a stick or button may emulate cursor movement, mouse clicks, keyboard keys, or other PC commands. The exact on-screen labels can change with Steam’s layout interface and the selected controller, so inspect the active layout rather than relying on a generic button chart.
After selecting a layout, open Steam’s controller-layout view and check the commands needed for your play style: selecting units, issuing movement orders, rotating or moving the view, confirming actions, opening menus, pausing, and cancelling. If an action is missing, remap it in Steam Input and save the layout before returning to the game.

The developer also explained the limitation directly: “The game’s requirements state a mouse with 3 buttons is needed. Due to the game’s control scheme it’s much harder to play on a controller, it is what it is.” A controller layout can expose the game’s functions, but it does not turn the interface into a purpose-built console control scheme. Cursor-like actions may require more button combinations or slower navigation than a physical mouse.

For that reason, use the controller layout as an accessibility and convenience option, not as evidence that the PC game has full native gamepad support. If a particular command feels awkward, a remapped Steam Input action or a mouse connected to the host computer may be more practical.

Steam Link cannot find the computer
- Confirm that Steam is open and signed in on the host computer.
- Connect the Android device and computer to the same router and local network. A mobile-data connection will not place the phone on the host’s local network.
- Check that the computer is not asleep and that Steam Link is discovering the intended host.
- Restart Steam Link after changing networks, then repeat the in-app pairing process.
The controller pairs with Android but does nothing in the game
- Verify that Android shows the controller as connected before opening Steam Link.
- In Steam Link, confirm that the controller is recognized and assigned to the player.
- Open the game’s Steam Input layout and select the official Xbox or PlayStation configuration instead of an unassigned or keyboard-only profile.
- Test the layout in Steam Link’s interface first. If navigation works there but game commands do not, the problem is likely the selected game layout rather than Bluetooth pairing.
- Remember that the native Android app and the streamed PC game use different input systems. A working PC layout does not repair a native-app compatibility gap.
The picture is unstable or the stream disconnects
- Move the Android device closer to the 5 GHz router.
- Use Ethernet for the host computer, as Valve recommends for phones and tablets.
- Reduce competing traffic on the local network and repeat Steam Link’s connection test.
- Keep the host computer awake and running Steam while playing.
No authoritative figure for latency or performance is established here, so do not assume a particular controller, phone, or router will deliver a guaranteed response time. The practical variables are the host computer, the local network, the Android device, and the controller’s own connection.
The game launches but controls feel wrong
- Reopen Steam Input and confirm which layout is active for Door Kickers 2.
- Check for duplicated commands, missing mouse-button emulation, or a stick assigned to the wrong function.
- Save a personal layout after making changes so Steam does not revert to an unintended template.
- Use the host computer’s mouse temporarily to determine whether the game itself is responding correctly.
Which method is right for your situation?
Choose native Android when
- You want the game installed directly on the phone or tablet.
- You do not have access to a computer running Steam.
- You are comfortable checking the current pre-release listing and testing controller support yourself.
Choose Steam Link when
- You own or can access the PC version and a computer that can run Steam.
- You want Valve-documented Bluetooth or Steam Controller pairing.
- You can place the host and Android device on the same network, preferably with the host on Ethernet and Android on 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Steam Link is the only route in the available material with a documented end-to-end controller procedure. Native Android remains a valid possibility, but its controller behavior must be confirmed from the current app rather than inferred from PC documentation.

Native Android information can change as the pre-release develops. Before an important trip, event, or purchase, recheck the live Google Play listing and the game’s in-app settings. Confirm four separate points: that the app is available in your region, that your device is eligible, that Android recognizes your controller, and that the game assigns the commands you need.

The available sources do not establish cross-save, offline operation, universal Bluetooth compatibility, low-latency guarantees, or a fixed list of native Android mappings. Treat each of those as unknown unless the current developer listing or an official guide states otherwise.
