You can play cloud games on a compatible TV, phone, or tablet by streaming a game from a remote server instead of running it locally. Choose a service that supports your exact device, confirm that the game is available, meet its connection requirements, and connect a compatible controller when required.
TV compatibility is model- and software-specific. Mobile support depends on the operating system and service. The steps below cover Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna using the requirements and availability information published through October 13, 2026.
What cloud gaming does
Cloud gaming runs the game on a provider’s remote computer. The provider streams the rendered video and audio to your screen, while your controller, touch, mouse, or keyboard inputs travel back over the internet. Your device therefore needs enough processing power to decode the stream, but it does not need to install or render the full game.
This model can let a television, phone, or tablet play games that would otherwise require a console or gaming PC. The trade-off is that responsiveness and picture quality depend on the complete network path between you and the service. A fast package alone cannot guarantee smooth play: Xbox says results can vary with connection, location, device, and other factors.

Check these things before subscribing or buying hardware
- Exact device: Record the TV model number and software version, or the phone/tablet model and operating-system version.
- Country: Device apps, plans, catalogs, and supported regions can differ. Verify availability where you live.
- Game access: Confirm that the specific title is in the service’s current cloud catalog, supported through a linked storefront, or included with your plan.
- Input method: Most TV play requires a compatible gamepad. On mobile, touch controls may exist for some games, but not all.
- Network: Check the provider’s speed, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and latency guidance before judging performance.
- Account: Have the service login and any required Xbox, game-store, or Amazon account credentials ready.
Playing on a TV
Verify the TV app or streaming device
“TV support” is not a universal feature. Xbox lists select LG televisions, select Samsung devices, and listed Fire TV devices, with requirements that can depend on the model and software version. Amazon Luna also lists Fire TV and select Samsung and LG televisions. A television from the same brand may be unsupported if it is an older model or runs an incompatible software release.
If your smart TV is not on the current supported-device list, a supported Fire TV device may provide another route, but compatibility still differs by service and exact model. Check the service’s current list before purchasing an adapter or stick.
Xbox Cloud Gaming on a supported TV
- Open the Xbox app on a supported LG or Samsung TV, or on a supported Fire TV device.
- Install updates for the TV, streaming device, and Xbox app if prompted.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account attached to an eligible Xbox Game Pass plan.
- Pair a compatible Bluetooth or USB gamepad. Xbox says most games need a controller, although some titles support touch or mouse and keyboard on compatible devices.
- Choose a cloud-supported game and select the play or stream command.
Xbox’s December 19, 2025 guide describes cloud gaming as included with its Essential, Premium, and Ultimate plans. Plan terms, supported titles, features, and device support can change, so treat the current account and catalog screens as authoritative.

Amazon’s September 21, 2026 explainer says Luna runs games on remote servers and streams video and audio over the internet. The same update reports more than 60 games available to Prime members at no additional cost and more than 45 GameNight titles; both figures are Amazon’s catalog claims and may change. Amazon lists Luna availability in 14 countries in that update, so check your country before relying on those options.

Playing on an Android phone or tablet
Xbox requirements and setup
Xbox’s December 2025 guide lists Android 12.0 or later for supported mobile cloud gaming. A compatible browser or Xbox app pathway may be presented differently by device and region.
- Update Android to version 12.0 or later if the device supports it.
- Install or open the supported Xbox cloud-gaming app or browser experience.
- Sign in with the account holding an eligible plan.
- Pair a Bluetooth controller for games that do not offer touch controls. If a game supports touch, the on-screen controls appear when the session starts.
- Pick a cloud-enabled title and tap the play command.
GeForce NOW requirements and setup
- Install the GeForce NOW Android app on a compatible phone or tablet.
- Sign in and link the supported storefront accounts where your games are owned.
- Connect a compatible gamepad for games that require one. NVIDIA provides an Android virtual gamepad, but does not recommend it for long-term play.
- Select a supported owned or free-to-play game and launch it.
Android compatibility is model-specific. NVIDIA’s current requirements and FAQ identify supported phone categories and hardware conditions; check those details for your particular device rather than assuming that every Android handset is eligible.

Playing on an iPhone or iPad
Xbox requirements and setup
Xbox lists iOS and iPadOS 14.4 or later in its December 2025 guide. Update the device first, then open the supported Xbox cloud-gaming experience, sign in, and choose a cloud-enabled title. Use a compatible controller unless the game explicitly provides touch controls.
GeForce NOW through Safari
- Open Safari on the iPhone or iPad.
- Go to the current GeForce NOW web experience and sign in.
- Use Safari’s Share menu to add the service to the Home Screen if you want an app-like icon.
- Link supported game-store accounts, pair a compatible controller when required, and launch a supported game.
NVIDIA documents an iPhone and iPad Safari web-app pathway rather than requiring the same native app route used on Android. Browser support and iOS requirements can change, so follow the current NVIDIA instructions for the device version you own.

Understanding subscriptions and game ownership
A service subscription does not automatically unlock every game shown in its marketing. Xbox cloud access and the available library depend on the plan, title, region, and platform. The December 2025 Xbox guide describes Essential, Premium, and Ultimate as plans that include cloud gaming, but it does not make every catalog item universal.
GeForce NOW generally acts as a streaming layer for supported games you own through linked stores, alongside selected free-to-play games. You still need the appropriate store account and, where applicable, the game license.
Luna access depends on Amazon’s current offerings, Prime inclusion, optional catalog arrangements, and country. Catalog counts are moving targets: Amazon’s reported totals of more than 60 Prime-included games and more than 45 GameNight titles are dated to September 21, 2026, not permanent guarantees.
Network setup for better responsiveness
Use the right connection
- Prefer wired Ethernet for a TV, Android TV box, or Fire TV device when practical.
- If using Wi-Fi, choose 5 GHz and keep the device close to the access point.
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, and 4K video streams while playing.
- Reduce distance and obstacles between a phone or tablet and the router.
- Use the provider’s data-center or latency guidance, not download speed alone, when diagnosing delay.
Interpret the published numbers correctly
Xbox recommends at least 20 Mbps. NVIDIA publishes separate Android TV and Fire TV thresholds because higher resolution and frame rate require more bandwidth. These are service recommendations, not promises of a particular image quality or input response. A connection can exceed the stated speed and still stutter if it has high latency, jitter, packet loss, congestion, or a poor route to the provider.

Controllers, touch, and keyboard input
Try a controller you already own before buying another one, then confirm that its Bluetooth, USB, or wireless mode is supported by both the device and the service. TV sessions are the least forgiving: NVIDIA requires a supported gamepad for TV play, and Xbox says most games require one.
On phones and tablets, some Xbox games expose touch controls. Touch availability is title-specific, and a game designed for precise analog movement may remain more comfortable with a physical pad. GeForce NOW’s Android virtual gamepad can help with brief testing, but NVIDIA does not recommend it for long-term play. Mouse and keyboard support is also game- and device-dependent rather than universal.
Launch a session and adjust it
- Connect the device to the most stable available network.
- Open the service app or supported browser route.
- Sign in and verify the correct account, plan, and linked game-store accounts.
- Pair the controller before opening the game so the service can detect it.
- Select a title that is currently available in your region.
- Start the stream and wait for the service to finish its connection check.
- Play for several minutes before changing settings; this exposes congestion or thermal problems that appear after startup.
- If the stream is unstable, lower resolution or frame-rate options where the service provides them, move to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and close competing network activity.
Troubleshooting common problems
The app is missing from the TV
Check the exact TV model, operating-system version, country, and app-store region. A supported brand does not mean every model is supported. Install the latest TV firmware, then recheck the provider’s current device list. If the television remains unsupported, compare the service’s listed Fire TV or other streaming-device options before buying anything.
The game cannot be found
Search the service catalog while signed in, because availability can depend on plan, region, platform, and ownership. For GeForce NOW, confirm that the game is in a supported storefront account. For Xbox and Luna, check whether the title is currently included rather than assuming that a subscription covers it indefinitely.

Charge the controller, disconnect it from another device, put it into pairing mode, and pair it in the TV, phone, or tablet Bluetooth settings before reopening the game. On TV, verify that the specific controller appears on the service’s supported list. If touch controls are available, use them to distinguish a gamepad-pairing problem from a service-login problem.

Video stutters or controls feel delayed
- Measure whether another device is saturating the connection.
- Switch from crowded 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to 5 GHz or Ethernet.
- Move closer to the router and reboot networking equipment.
- Check latency and packet-loss indicators if the service displays them.
- Try a lower stream quality where available.
- Test at another time of day to identify household or neighborhood congestion.
Do not treat a speed test as a guarantee. Xbox explicitly notes that location and device conditions affect performance, and NVIDIA’s TV guidance includes a latency target as well as bandwidth figures.
The phone or tablet is unsupported
Confirm the operating-system minimum first: Xbox lists Android 12.0 or later and iOS/iPadOS 14.4 or later. Then check the service’s model-specific requirements. Updating an operating system cannot make hardware that is excluded from a provider’s compatibility list eligible.
What the published growth and catalog figures mean
Xbox Wire reported that Xbox cloud-gaming hours had increased 45% year over year in its December 19, 2025 guide. That is a provider-published usage figure, not an independent industry measurement. Amazon’s September 21, 2026 update reported more than 60 Prime-included games and more than 45 GameNight titles. Catalog numbers can change as games are added or removed, so use them as dated indicators rather than permanent entitlements.
Choosing the practical setup
Choose Xbox Cloud Gaming when
- Your TV, phone, or tablet appears on Xbox’s current supported list.
- You want a cloud library tied to an eligible Xbox Game Pass plan.
- You are comfortable checking whether a particular game is included, supported, or available through the relevant platform.
Choose GeForce NOW when
- You already own supported PC games through linked storefront accounts.
- Your TV setup can meet the published HD or FHD bandwidth and latency guidance.
- You have a supported gamepad for television play and do not plan to rely on the Android virtual gamepad for extended sessions.
Choose Amazon Luna when
- You use a supported Fire TV, Samsung, or LG television, or another listed device.
- The current Luna catalog and Prime or GameNight options match the games you want.
- Your country is among the service’s currently supported locations.
Bottom line for a first session
Start with the screen you already own: verify its exact model and operating system, then check the service’s current device list and game catalog. Install the supported app or browser route, meet the published network guidance, and pair a compatible controller before launching. If the service is unavailable on your TV, a listed streaming device may help; if mobile touch controls are uncomfortable, a controller is usually the simplest upgrade. Recheck compatibility, catalogs, plans, and regional availability immediately before subscribing because all four can change.
