To play Brick by Brick with a friend on Steam, one player hosts an online room, shares the room code shown by the game, and the other player enters that code through the join-room flow. After the connection succeeds, you can sort bricks, explore the space, and build together. The game also lists LAN co-op, although the published instructions do not describe its exact menu sequence.

Does Brick by Brick have multiplayer on Steam?

Yes. The Steam listing for Brick by Brick identifies both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op. The documented online method is room-code based rather than an open server browser: the host creates an online room, sends the displayed code to a friend, and the friend uses the game’s join option to enter it.

Co-op is built around the same first-person sorting and building sandbox as solo play. Players can organize loose pieces, explore the shared space, and construct objects together over the internet. The listing describes roughly 4,000 loose pieces in the starting piles, shelf-based sorting, free-building areas, physics-based interactions, persistent save files, and earthquakes that can return sorted pieces to a chaotic state.

Logitech G F310 Wired Gamepad Controller Console - Blue/Black | Console-like layout, 4-switch D-pad
  • With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
  • Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
  • A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
  • The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
  • The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.

What you need before hosting

  • A Windows PC with Steam installed and access to the same Steam account that owns or can launch the game.
  • Brick by Brick installed for every person who will play. Keeping everyone on the same current build avoids version-mismatch errors.
  • An internet connection for online co-op. A wired connection or strong, stable Wi-Fi is preferable when many physics objects are being moved.
  • A way to communicate the room code privately, such as Steam chat or a voice call. Treat the code as a session invitation and send it only to the people you want in the room.
  • A keyboard and mouse, or a compatible PC game controller. Steam lists full controller gameplay as supported, so a controller is optional rather than required.

The store information does not state a special port-forwarding step, a dedicated server requirement, or a minimum internet speed. Start with the normal Steam connection and only investigate advanced network settings if the in-game room process fails.

How to host an online room

The exact button labels can change with updates, and the published description confirms the process without naming every menu. Use the closest matching online-room commands you see in your current build.

  1. Open Steam and launch the game. Start Brick by Brick from your Steam library and wait until its main menu or home screen is ready.
  2. Open the online multiplayer area. Choose the option that refers to online multiplayer, co-op, or rooms. Do not select a local or LAN option when your friend is connecting over the internet.
  3. Create or host a room. Select the command that starts a new online room. The host is the player whose session owns the room and distributes its code.
  4. Wait for the room code. The game should display a code after the room is created. Read it carefully or use the game’s copy control if one is provided. The published instructions do not establish the code’s length, whether it uses upper- and lower-case letters, or whether it expires.
  5. Send the code to your friend. Use Steam chat or another private channel. Preserve every character and any capitalization or punctuation the game shows.
  6. Keep the room open. Remain in the hosted room while your friend enters the code. Leaving the room, returning to the title screen, or closing the game can invalidate the invitation.
  7. Confirm the connection and begin. When the joining player appears or the game indicates that the room is connected, move into the shared space and start sorting, exploring, or building.

If your screen does not contain a button literally called “Host,” look for a new-room or create-room action under the online multiplayer heading. Avoid guessing at a menu path from an old video: the listing confirms the room-and-code concept, not a permanent interface layout.

How your friend joins with the room code

  1. Launch the game from Steam. The joining player should reach the game’s main menu rather than opening a saved solo session first.
  2. Open online multiplayer. Choose the online co-op or room-joining area. The LAN option is for players on the same local network and is not the normal route for an internet friend.
  3. Select the join-room command. Use the action that asks for an existing room or code. The game may call it “Join,” “Join Room,” or a similar term; the supplied instructions do not guarantee one exact label.
  4. Enter the code exactly. Type or paste the code supplied by the host. Check for leading or trailing spaces, look-alike characters, and capitalization before submitting.
  5. Submit and wait. Keep the game open while it contacts the host. A successful join should place the player in the same shared environment or show an in-game confirmation.
  6. Coordinate in the room. Once connected, agree on an initial task—such as organizing one shelf or testing the building area—before spreading pieces across the entire space.

The Steam description does not document a separate friend-list invitation flow. If the game offers both a code field and a friend invite, the room-code method is the one explicitly described for Brick by Brick.

A practical first multiplayer session

1. Establish a sorting area

Begin by deciding which shelves or piles each player will handle. With thousands of individual pieces, two people working in the same small pile can repeatedly pick up the same part or leave partially sorted areas behind. Dividing work by shelf, color, shape, or building project makes progress visible and reduces accidental rearrangement.

2. Use the shared space to plan

Before building, walk through the available area together. Identify where loose pieces, sorted shelves, and free-building space are located. This avoids a common co-op problem: one player starts a structure in a travel route while the other is carrying a large batch of parts through it.

3. Build in separate zones when possible

Physics-based brick interaction means objects can move when touched or dropped. Give each player a work zone or assign one person to foundation pieces while the other gathers compatible parts. That arrangement is more reliable than trying to snap every piece into the same location simultaneously.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Save at sensible milestones

The listing says the game has persistent save files. Use that persistence deliberately: save after a major sorting pass, after completing a structural section, or before experimenting with a large construction. The available description does not specify whether every player’s position, unsaved object movement, or room state is captured identically, so do not treat a still-open multiplayer room as a substitute for a confirmed save.

  • Multi-Platform PC Gaming Controller: Working with Switch, PC, Android, and iOS devices via Bluetooth, wired, and wireless dongle connections.
  • Hall Effect Joysticks: Delivering enhanced recentering performance for smoother control and superior anti-drift capability. Plus, with anti-friction rings.
  • 2-Way Trigger Lock: With trigger stops, gamers can toggle between short and long pull positions. Additionally, gamers can activate hair trigger mode by pressing M+LT/RT (triggers must be in the long pull position).
  • 1000Hz Polling Rate: This ensures that your inputs are registered almost instantaneously, minimizing lag and maximizing your performance during competitive play.
  • Mechanical Circular D-pad: Designed for quick reactions and accuracy in every direction, this D-pad elevates your gaming experience with superior responsiveness.

5. Plan for earthquakes

Earthquakes can send sorted bricks back into chaos. If one occurs, pause the building plan, recover the most important pieces first, and re-establish shelf assignments. A short recovery plan—such as restoring the foundation pile before decorative pieces—keeps the event from turning into an argument over what to do next.

Online co-op, LAN co-op, and what each option means

Connection type What the listing confirms When to choose it What is not documented
Online co-op Host an online room, share its room code, and have a friend join through the code. Friends are connecting over the internet or are not on the same local network. Player limit, latency requirement, bandwidth target, and exact menu labels.
LAN co-op LAN Co-op is listed as a supported feature. Players are on the same local network and want a local connection. The store page does not publish the LAN discovery, host, or join sequence.

For LAN, check the current in-game multiplayer screen for a local-network room list or local host command. Do not assume that the online room code is required on a LAN session; the published material only confirms that both connection types exist, not that they share identical controls.

Choosing keyboard, mouse, or controller

Steam lists keyboard and mouse support as well as full controller gameplay. A keyboard and mouse can make menu navigation and precise first-person placement familiar to PC players. A controller may be more comfortable for a relaxed building session or for someone who prefers analog movement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Connect or pair the controller before launching the game if Steam does not detect it while the game is running.
  • Check that the active input device is the one you intend to use before joining the room; switching devices during a connection can make it harder to identify whether a problem is network-related or input-related.
  • Keep a keyboard nearby for entering the room code if the controller’s text-entry interface is inconvenient.
  • Use the same control method consistently during a shared construction task so handoffs do not change movement or interaction habits unexpectedly.

No official button mapping is supplied in the available listing, so this guide does not assign specific controller buttons or keyboard keys.

Troubleshooting room-code multiplayer

The host cannot find an online-room option

  • Confirm that you opened the game’s multiplayer area rather than a solo save or LAN-only screen.
  • Return to the main menu and reopen online multiplayer. A menu may not show room actions while a previous session is still loading.
  • Check that the game is fully updated for both players through Steam.
  • If the option remains absent, compare the live game screen with the current Steam listing and support information; do not rely on an old screenshot with different labels.

The friend receives an invalid-code message

  • Ask the host to read the code again and resend it without extra punctuation or spaces.
  • Check characters that are easy to confuse, such as zero and the letter O, or one and the letter I.
  • Make sure the host is still inside the same room. Creating a second room or returning to the title screen may make the first code unusable.
  • Have both players leave the join screen and start a fresh room attempt. This tests whether the code expired or was tied to a closed session.

The join attempt never completes

  • Verify that both players can use Steam normally and that neither client is stuck on an update, sign-in, or offline status.
  • Close other high-bandwidth activities, then retry with the host and joining player on stable connections.
  • Restart the game on both PCs and generate a new room code instead of repeatedly submitting an old one.
  • If a firewall or security tool asks whether to allow the game, allow the normal Steam/game network access appropriate to your system. Do not disable security permanently to test one connection.
  • Try the simplest possible session first: one host, one friend, and no additional applications that filter or reroute network traffic.

The room connects but objects behave strangely

Brick by Brick uses physics-based interactions, so movement, drops, collisions, and earthquakes can change the arrangement of pieces. First determine whether the behavior is an intentional physics event or a connection problem. Ask both players whether the same object appears in the same place. If positions repeatedly jump, actions arrive late, or one player cannot interact while the other can, save when possible, leave the room, restart both clients, and create a new session. The available sources do not publish a guaranteed latency threshold or a multiplayer recovery command.

A saved arrangement is missing after reconnecting

The listing confirms persistent save files but does not specify the exact save ownership or synchronization rules for co-op. Confirm that the host saved the session using the game’s normal save process, then have the host load that save before inviting the friend again. Avoid assuming that an unsaved arrangement from a disconnected room was written to disk.

Steam Remote Play Together: do not assume it is available

Steam Support describes Remote Play Together as a way to invite Steam Friends to supported local co-op sessions remotely. However, the Brick by Brick store listing does not identify Remote Play Together support. The documented method for this game is its own online-room and room-code flow. If Remote Play Together appears in Steam for your installation, treat that as an interface-level possibility rather than a feature promised by the game’s published listing, and prefer the native online room when you need the supported procedure.

  • The exact LAN discovery process and the persistence rules for every multiplayer action are not documented.

Plan a first session for a small group and verify those limits in the current build rather than promising a player count or network performance to friends.

Availability and release-date note

The Steam information gives a release date of September 9, 2026. One Steam snapshot also contains stale planned-release wording, so date-sensitive readers should verify that the live store page and their Steam library show the game as available before arranging a session. This matters especially when a friend cannot find the title or sees a different availability state.

A reliable checklist for every session

  • Everyone has installed and updated the same game build.
  • The host has chosen online co-op, not LAN, for an internet session.
  • The host created a room and copied the currently displayed code.
  • The code was sent privately and entered exactly once the friend reached the join screen.
  • Both players confirmed they are in the same shared space before moving valuable pieces.
  • The group agreed on shelf assignments or construction zones.
  • The host saved after meaningful progress and before experimenting with physics or waiting for an earthquake.
  • If the connection failed, everyone generated a fresh room code rather than reusing one from a closed session.

That workflow follows the multiplayer method the Steam listing explicitly describes while leaving unverified interface details to the current version of the game.
