Yes, you can play Bloodborne on a Steam Deck, but the most dependable documented setup is to stream it from a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 using chiaki-ng. The console runs the game; the Deck acts as the remote-play client. If you do not have a suitable PlayStation console, ShadPS4 offers an experimental local-emulation route, but its developers warn that compatibility and emulation issues remain.
Choose the route that fits your setup
| Your situation | Route | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You have a PS4 or PS5 that can run Bloodborne | Stream with chiaki-ng | Less emulator troubleshooting, but you need access to the console and a good network connection. |
| You do not have a PlayStation console and are comfortable tinkering | Run it locally with ShadPS4 | No console streaming, but compatibility and stability are evolving. |
| You want a guaranteed, plug-and-play Steam Deck install | No verified native Steam Deck route is established here | Bloodborne is not established as a standard Steam Deck game, and experimental emulation is not equivalent to a native release. |
For most people who already own the game and a compatible console, Remote Play is the practical first choice. That recommendation follows from Sony’s supported console-based Remote Play path and ShadPS4’s maturity warning; it is not a result of a controlled, hands-on comparison.
Stream Bloodborne from a PlayStation with chiaki-ng
Sony requires a PS4 or PS5 for Remote Play; the Steam Deck does not run the game in this setup. Bloodborne must be available to play on that console. Sony describes Remote Play as usable over a high-speed internet connection, so the quality of your home network—or the connection between your Deck and console when playing away from home—can affect the experience. Sony also notes that restrictions may apply depending on content or use. See Sony’s PS Remote Play information.
Prepare the console
- Enable Remote Play on the PS4 or PS5 using the console’s settings. Sony’s menu labels and instructions can vary by system software version.
- If you want to wake the console remotely, configure its rest-mode network settings as described in the chiaki-ng Steam Deck setup guide.
Set up the Steam Deck client
- Install and configure chiaki-ng on the Deck by following the project’s current Steam Deck instructions.
- Pair chiaki-ng with your console according to the current guide, then launch the console session from the Deck.
- Start Bloodborne on the console and play through the streamed session. If connection quality is poor, troubleshoot the network path before assuming the Deck or game is at fault.
Pairing screens and setup details may change. The cited guide documents the workflow, but the steps above are not a claim that a particular connection or current screen sequence has been independently tested.

Run Bloodborne locally with ShadPS4
ShadPS4 is an early PlayStation 4 emulator, and its project documentation says it can run Bloodborne. That does not guarantee a playable or consistent experience on every Steam Deck model or emulator build. The ShadPS4 README identifies Bloodborne among the games it can run, while the project’s user guide warns: “shadPS4 is still early in development. Many games do not work, and the few that do work usually face various emulation issues.”
Development continues: the official ShadPS4 releases page lists a prerelease dated 2026-10-04, and v0.13.0 notes include a Bloodborne speedup fix. Those facts show active work, not a guaranteed frame rate, stable play, or uniform results across Deck hardware.

Using the DeckBorne community installer
DeckBorne describes a SteamOS workflow that installs ShadPS4 and configures files supplied by the user. Its published requirements for that installer are 33 GB of internal Deck storage, a Steam Deck running SteamOS, internet access, Bloodborne files, the v1.09 update, and The Old Hunters DLC. Its USB installation method calls for a 64 GB USB stick. These are DeckBorne’s stated requirements, not universal ShadPS4 requirements. The project also says its LCD-model workflow needs more testing, so its installer should not be treated as validated across both LCD and OLED Decks. See the DeckBorne project.

Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

What to expect before you start
- Console streaming depends on hardware and network: Remote Play needs a PS4 or PS5, and the console must have the game available. Network quality matters.
- Local emulation means ongoing troubleshooting: Check ShadPS4’s current releases and compatibility guidance before following an older community tutorial.
- Performance claims need care: No authoritative, current Steam Deck-specific Bloodborne frame-rate figure is established here. A fix in release notes is not a benchmark for every model or build.
- Steam compatibility ratings are not emulator certification: Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility program rates reviewed Steam titles; it does not validate this non-Steam emulation setup.
