You do not need an Xbox to play Big Walk on a television. The game is officially available for Windows and Mac through Steam (and Mac through the Mac App Store), as well as PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2. Connect a computer to the TV with HDMI, stream the computer with Steam Link, or use a PS5 or Switch 2 directly. Xbox is not a currently supported platform, and the official FAQ says no other platforms are planned at this time.
Which devices can run Big Walk on a TV?
As of the current 2026 platform information, Big Walk has four practical TV-compatible routes:
- Windows PC: Buy the Steam version, run the game on the computer, and connect the computer to the television.
- Mac: Use Steam or the Mac App Store, then connect the Mac directly to the TV or stream it through Steam Link.
- PlayStation 5: Install the native PS5 version and connect the console to the TV normally.
- Nintendo Switch 2: Use the native Switch 2 version in docked mode with the dock, power adapter and HDMI cable.
An Xbox console is not required for any of these methods. It is also not listed as a platform for the game. The official FAQ states that Big Walk is available on Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with no other platforms planned at this time. That means there is currently no official Xbox or Xbox Game Pass version to install.

| Route | Where the game runs | TV connection | Extra hardware | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct PC or Mac | Windows PC or Mac | HDMI from computer to TV | Suitable video cable or adapter; controller optional | Lowest-complexity setup when the computer is near the TV |
| Steam Link or Steam Remote Play | Windows PC or Mac host computer | Network stream to a compatible TV device or app | Compatible Steam Link device or TV app; controller | Keeping the computer in another room |
| PlayStation 5 | PS5 console | Normal PS5 HDMI connection | PS5, HDMI cable and controller | Players who already own a PS5 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 docked mode | Switch 2 console | Switch 2 dock to TV by HDMI | Switch 2 dock, AC adapter and HDMI cable | A portable-console owner who wants a larger screen |
The official material does not provide a universal performance or latency figure for any route. A direct HDMI connection avoids an extra streaming hop, while Steam Link depends on the host computer and the quality of the home network.

Method 1: Connect a Windows PC or Mac directly to the TV
A direct connection is usually the most predictable computer setup. The game runs locally on the PC or Mac, and the television acts as the large display. You do not need an Xbox console; an Xbox-branded controller is only an optional input device.
What you need
- A Windows PC or Mac that can run the Steam or Mac App Store edition of Big Walk.
- An available HDMI input on the TV.
- A video output on the computer that matches the TV, or a compatible adapter.
- A controller if you prefer sofa play. The Steam listing identifies full controller support, including Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
- A keyboard and mouse remain usable when sitting close enough to the computer.
Do not assume that every USB-C port carries video. Check the computer’s specifications before buying a USB-C-to-HDMI adapter. Match the adapter or cable to the computer’s actual output and the TV’s available input.
Direct-connection steps
- Purchase and install Big Walk through Steam on Windows or Mac, or through the Mac App Store on a Mac.
- Turn off, or leave on, the computer and connect its video output to an HDMI input on the television.
- Use the TV remote to select the HDMI input where the computer is connected.
- On the computer, set the TV as the display or choose a mirrored desktop if you want the same image on both screens.
- Connect and pair your controller with the computer, if you are using one.
- Launch Steam and open Big Picture. Steam describes Big Picture as a TV-and-controller interface designed for playing from the couch.
- Start Big Walk from Big Picture and confirm that the game responds to the controller before joining an online session.
Why use Steam Big Picture?
Windows and macOS interfaces are designed for a desk, not for navigating from several feet away. Big Picture enlarges Steam’s menus and makes controller navigation practical on a TV. It does not change where the game runs: the computer still supplies the processing, storage and network connection.

Method 2: Stream Big Walk with Steam Link
Steam Link and Steam Remote Play let a compatible TV device display a game running on another computer. Steam’s description is explicit: the host computer runs the Steam game, streams video and audio to the TV device, and receives controller input back over the network.
This is useful when your Windows PC or Mac is in an office, bedroom or other room. It is not a way to run Big Walk without a computer. The PC or Mac must remain powered on, signed in to Steam and capable of running the game.
Steam Link requirements
- A Windows PC or Mac with Big Walk installed through Steam.
- A compatible Steam Link device or a TV model with a supported Steam Link application. Compatibility varies by device, so check the specific TV or streaming hardware before purchasing it.
- A usable home network connecting the host computer and the TV device.
- A compatible controller paired with the device that receives the stream.
Steam Link setup
- Install Big Walk on the Windows PC or Mac that will act as the host.
- Install or open Steam Link on the compatible TV device.
- Connect the TV device and host computer to the same home network, then follow Steam Link’s pairing instructions.
- Leave Steam running on the host computer and confirm that the computer appears as an available source in Steam Link.
- Pair the controller with the TV device or Steam Link hardware, following that device’s instructions.
- Select the host computer, open the Steam library and launch Big Walk.
- If the stream is unstable, move the host or TV device to a better network connection before changing game settings.
What Steam Link changes—and what it does not
Steam Link changes the screen and controller location, not the game’s platform. The computer still renders Big Walk, and the network carries the resulting picture, sound and input. Because the official guidance does not promise a particular latency or image quality, your result depends on the devices and home network involved. A direct HDMI cable is the simpler fallback if streaming introduces delay, dropouts or an inconvenient setup.

Method 3: Play the native PS5 version
House House’s press-kit material lists PlayStation 5 as a native platform. If you already own a PS5, no computer or Steam Link arrangement is necessary.

- Launch the game and use its online features to invite or join the other players.
PlayStation also documents Remote Play to compatible devices over a broadband network. That can put the PS5’s output on another supported screen when the console is not beside the main TV, but the game still runs on the PS5.
Method 4: Use Nintendo Switch 2 in docked TV mode
Big Walk is listed for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo’s docked-TV instructions require the Switch 2 dock, its AC adapter and an HDMI cable.

- Place the Switch 2 console in the dock.
- Turn on the television and select the HDMI input used by the dock.
- Install or start the Switch 2 version of Big Walk.
- Pair the Joy-Con or another supported controller and begin the game.
Nintendo describes this mode as playing Switch games on a bigger screen. The dock, power and HDMI connections are all necessary for the standard TV arrangement; the handheld console alone does not create a TV signal.
Controllers, cables and seating distance
Controller choices
The Steam listing marks Big Walk as fully controller-supported and identifies Xbox and PlayStation controllers among the supported options. Steam’s Big Picture documentation also covers Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo controllers. This means an Xbox console and an Xbox controller are separate decisions: the console is not a supported platform, while a compatible Xbox controller may still be used with a PC, Mac or another supported setup.
A controller is optional on a direct computer connection if keyboard and mouse use is comfortable. For a TV across the room, a wireless controller is generally more practical, but the official material does not require one particular model.
Best Value
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
Cable and adapter checks
- For a PC or Mac, identify the computer’s actual video output before buying a cable.
- For Switch 2 docked play, use the dock’s HDMI output, the AC adapter and an HDMI cable.
- For PS5, use the console’s normal HDMI connection.
- Connect audio through the TV unless your computer, console or receiver is configured differently.
When a computer has only a non-HDMI output, choose an adapter that supports video from that port. A USB-C connector by itself does not prove that DisplayPort or HDMI video is available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Online multiplayer on a TV
Big Walk is an online cooperative game. The official press kit gives a player range of 2–12, and the Steam listing identifies online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. A TV connection does not turn the game into local couch co-op: other participants need to join online from their own supported platforms and accounts.
Cross-platform play is described in the official materials, but they do not promise that every platform combination or account configuration behaves identically in every region. Before organizing a large session, have each player confirm that their edition is supported, that they are signed in to the required platform service and that their internet connection permits online play.

Which route should you choose?
Choose direct PC or Mac HDMI when…
- Your computer is close enough to the TV for a cable.
- You want to avoid network-streaming variables.
- You already own the game on Steam or the Mac App Store.
- You can supply a suitable video cable or adapter.
Choose Steam Link when…
- The computer is too far from the TV for a convenient HDMI run.
- You already have compatible Steam Link hardware or a supported TV application.
- You accept that the host computer must stay on and that streaming depends on the home network.
Choose PS5 when…
- You already own a PS5 and want the fewest computer-related steps.
- The console is beside the TV or you can use a supported PlayStation Remote Play arrangement.
Choose Switch 2 when…
- You already own Nintendo’s newer console and its dock.
- You want to move between handheld and docked play.
- You can provide the dock’s power and HDMI connections.
Troubleshooting: when Big Walk does not appear on the TV
The TV says “No signal”
- Confirm that the cable is connected to the intended computer, PS5 or Switch 2 dock output.
- Select the TV’s matching HDMI input rather than relying on automatic input detection.
- For a computer, verify that the operating system detects the TV and that the chosen output mode is supported by both devices.
- For Switch 2, confirm that the dock has its AC adapter connected and that the console is seated correctly.
Steam Link cannot find the computer
- Keep Steam open on the host computer.
- Check that the host and TV device are connected to the same usable home network.
- Confirm that the computer is awake and not blocked by a sleep, firewall or network setting.
- If the TV model does not support the Steam Link app, use compatible streaming hardware or connect the computer directly by HDMI.
The controller does not work
- Pair the controller with the device that is actually running the game: the computer for direct play, or the Steam Link device for a streamed session.
- Open Steam Big Picture and check whether the controller is detected before launching Big Walk.
- On PS5 or Switch 2, pair the controller through the console’s own system settings.
- If keyboard and mouse are available, use them temporarily to determine whether the issue is the controller or the game launch.
The PC version crashes or freezes
Start with the official Big Walk FAQ’s PC troubleshooting guidance. Confirm that the game is installed on the intended Steam or Mac App Store platform, restart the game and computer, and check for platform updates. Do not assume that a third-party utility is required; the official FAQ is the appropriate first reference for PC-specific failures.
Online players cannot join
- Verify that every participant is using one of the supported platforms.
- Confirm that each player is signed in to the relevant platform account and has an active internet connection.
- Have the host recreate the session after all players have updated the game.
- Remember that the published player range is 2–12 and that the game is online cooperative rather than local split-screen TV multiplayer.
Bottom line
The simplest Xbox-free solution is to buy Big Walk for Steam on a Windows PC or Mac, connect that computer to the TV with the correct HDMI cable or adapter, and launch Steam Big Picture. Steam Link is the wireless-room alternative when the computer is elsewhere. If you already own a console, the native PS5 edition or docked Nintendo Switch 2 edition removes the need for a PC altogether. Xbox hardware is neither required nor currently listed as a supported platform.
