To play Banjo-Kazooie on Evercade Nexus, use the physical Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack cartridge. Insert it into the powered-off Nexus, turn the system on, select the game, and begin. The cartridge contains both Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.
Nexus is a particularly good match because it has two analogue sticks, but it is not required. The cartridge listing says the Double Pack works with all Evercade devices, so anyone who already owns compatible Evercade hardware can play without buying a Nexus. Every Nexus bundle includes the cartridge.
What you need
The Evercade release is not a download or a separate digital purchase. It is supplied on one physical cartridge called the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack. Before setting up, make sure you have the following:

The product listing describes the cartridge as compatible across the Evercade range. That means Nexus is an option rather than a requirement. If you already own a compatible Evercade handheld or console, buying another device is unnecessary just to play these games.

Which games are on the cartridge?
The Double Pack carries two complete games:
- Banjo-Kazooie, the original 3D platform adventure.
- Banjo-Tooie, its larger sequel.
Both titles are selected from the cartridge’s game menu after you start the system. You do not need two cartridges, and you do not need to buy the games separately for Evercade. The listing identifies the Double Pack as the Nexus launch cartridge and says it is included with every Nexus console.
Cartridge availability and release timing
Evercade Info Central’s page, crawled on October 11, 2026, lists October 30, 2026 as the separate cartridge release date. That date was still in the future on October 17, 2026, so regional stock and retailer listings can change before launch. If you are buying the cartridge without Nexus, check the current release status and local availability rather than relying on an old product page.
The Nexus bundle is the straightforward option if you need hardware immediately because the Double Pack is included. Existing Evercade owners should first confirm that their device is supported, then decide whether a second copy of the cartridge or a new handheld offers any practical benefit.
Why Nexus suits Banjo-Kazooie
Nexus has dual analogue sticks. That matters for a 3D platform game because one stick can handle character movement while the other provides camera control or another mapped function. The cartridge page describes Nexus as an ideal way to experience the two games, but the same listing says the cartridge works on all Evercade devices. Do not interpret the dual-stick design as a compatibility requirement.

On older Evercade hardware without two sticks, the port reportedly provides deeper control options so that the games remain playable with the available controls. Tom’s Guide reported this in a hands-on account; it is not an independent test performed for this article. Your exact button layout can depend on the Evercade model and the game’s control configuration, so check the on-screen prompts and any control settings when you first launch a title.
Nexus hardware relevant to these games
The following figures come from Evercade Info Central’s Nexus product specification page. They are stated product specifications, not independent measurements.

The absence of HDMI and wireless streaming is the most important limitation for people who normally move a handheld game to a large display. Nexus is designed as a self-contained portable system, not as a dockable console.

How to start the game on Nexus
- Charge or power the Nexus. Use a charged battery for portable play or connect the supplied charging equipment. You do not need to insert the cartridge while the system is running.
- Turn the console off before inserting the cartridge. Align the Double Pack with the cartridge slot and press it in firmly until it is seated. Avoid forcing it; if it does not fit, remove it and check the orientation.
- Power on the Nexus. Wait for the Evercade interface to finish loading. The inserted cartridge should appear in the game list.
- Open the Double Pack. Select the cartridge from the library and confirm the launch command shown on screen.
- Choose a game. Select Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Tooie from the cartridge menu. The two games share the physical cartridge but remain separate entries.
- Check controls before beginning. Use the game’s displayed control instructions and, where available, its control settings. Move both analogue sticks briefly to confirm that the system recognizes them.
- Start your session. A Tom’s Guide hands-on report describes powering on Nexus, inserting the Banjo cartridge and reaching Spiral Mountain. That account is a reported hands-on observation, so menu wording or software behavior can change with later firmware or game updates.

Those details come from that hands-on report and should be treated as attributed observations rather than universal performance guarantees for every future firmware revision. If your menu does not match a description exactly, update the Evercade system software using the normal official process and check the cartridge’s current documentation.
How the new version was developed
Blaze project manager Chris Deckard said the ports were “developed from the ground up for Evercade using the original code of the 64-bit console versions as a basis.” He also said the team aimed to preserve the feel of the original releases while adding modern improvements to presentation and playability.
TechRadar attributed another explanation to Blaze Entertainment head of communications Sean Cleaver, who said the developers received source code containing material that had not previously been exposed publicly, including old unreleased tracks and a level editor. He also mentioned unlockable bonuses. These statements explain why the Evercade editions are more than a simple unchanged ROM reproduction, but they do not guarantee that every bonus is available immediately or in the same way on every device. Look for the relevant in-game or hub instructions.
Choosing between a cartridge-only purchase and Nexus
Your best option depends mainly on whether you already have compatible hardware and how you want to play.

Controls and camera expectations
Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie were designed around 3D movement, jumping, attacks and camera management. Nexus’s two analogue sticks let the controls map naturally to that style. The port also reportedly adds control depth for systems with fewer sticks, so owners of older Evercade devices are not automatically excluded from the experience.
Because exact mappings can vary by device and software version, do not rely on a button chart copied from another Evercade model. Read the prompts shown by the game, test movement in a safe area, and open the pause or options menus before attempting difficult platforming sections. If a control feels reversed or unavailable, look for a configuration option rather than assuming the cartridge is defective.

The reported Evercade port adds hub access from the pause menu, which can make it easier to reach the collection’s shared functions without returning to the system-level cartridge screen. Tom’s Guide also reported bonus cheats and functioning Stop ‘n’ Swop. These are optional features; you can play the main adventures without using them.

Cheats and unlockables can change the order in which you approach the games, so decide whether you want an original-style first playthrough or a convenience-focused session. If a feature is not visible, check the cartridge’s own instructions and make sure you are in the correct game’s pause or hub screen. Feature availability can also depend on the software build installed on the console.
Troubleshooting
The cartridge does not appear
- Power the Nexus off, remove the cartridge, and reinsert it with the contacts aligned correctly.
- Inspect the cartridge and slot for visible dust or obstruction; do not use liquid or a sharp object inside the slot.
- Confirm that the device is an Evercade model covered by the cartridge listing.
- Test another known-good cartridge. If other cartridges also fail, the issue is more likely to be the console or slot than the Double Pack.
The game launches but controls feel wrong
- Open the game’s control instructions or settings and confirm the selected layout.
- Test both analogue sticks in the menu and in a safe gameplay area.
- If you are using an older single-stick device, select the control option intended for that hardware when the game offers one.
- Restart the game after changing a control setting so the new mapping is applied consistently.
The image or frame rate does not match a report
Reported resolution and 60-fps behavior come from a hands-on account, not a laboratory measurement. Make sure the console firmware and game software are current, then compare behavior under the same display and power conditions. Do not assume that a difference from a reviewer’s unit proves a hardware fault.
You expected to play on a television
Nexus’s product information explicitly says there is no HDMI output and no wireless TV streaming. A cable or adapter cannot add a feature the hardware does not provide. Use the built-in 5.89-inch screen, or choose a different compatible Evercade device only if its own specifications confirm the TV connection you need.
The cartridge is unavailable
The separate release was listed for October 30, 2026, so availability can be a timing issue rather than a compatibility problem. Check the current regional listing after that date. If you need to play sooner and do not already own compatible Evercade hardware, the Nexus bundle may be the relevant listing because it includes the cartridge.
Practical setup checklist
- Confirm whether you already own a compatible Evercade device.
- Verify that the product is the Banjo-Kazooie Double Pack, not an unrelated cartridge.
- If buying Nexus, confirm that the bundle includes the Double Pack in the current regional listing.
- Check the release date and stock status, especially before October 30, 2026.
