Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced are different releases. The original is the 2013 game; Resynced is Ubisoft’s remake, released on July 9, 2026. If you want the earlier experience, select the product explicitly labeled Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and verify that its release year is 2013. If you want the current remake, select Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced instead.
This guide explains how to tell them apart, choose a platform, install either version, play the remake offline after its initial download, and select the right edition without assuming that a particular retailer or storefront still carries the 2013 game.
The original game and Resynced are not the same product
The similar names can make a store search confusing, especially now that the remake is available. Ubisoft identifies Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as the 2013 original and describes Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as its remake. They are separated by 13 years and should be treated as separate products in a library, search result, or purchase screen.

Resynced is not a patch or an automatically updated edition of the 2013 release. Ubisoft says it was rebuilt from the ground up using the latest Anvil engine, with updated visuals, gameplay changes and new story content. Those descriptions explain why a search result for Resynced should not be assumed to be the same game you remember from 2013.

Decide which version you actually want
Choose the 2013 original when the earlier release matters
Select the original if your goal is to experience the game as it existed in 2013, compare the original design with the remake, or follow a guide written specifically for the first release. In a store or library, look for the complete title Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, not merely the words “Black Flag.” Check the displayed year and product description before downloading.
The available official information does not verify that the original remains purchasable on every current storefront or in every territory. Do not assume that a listing is still active because an old search result, video or review mentions it. If you find a listing, confirm the publisher, release year and platform on that storefront’s own product page.
Choose Resynced when you want the current remake
Choose Resynced if you want the 2026 remake, its rebuilt presentation, its gameplay changes and its additional story content. The remake is now released rather than upcoming, so pages that describe it as a future game are out of date as of October 13, 2026.
Use this quick decision path
- Want the 2013 version? Search for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and verify the 2013 date.
- Want the remake? Search for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and verify that the listing identifies the 2026 release.
- See both products? Compare the full title, year and edition name before adding either one to your cart or library.
- Only one result appears? Read its description carefully; do not infer that it is the other release.
Where you can play Black Flag Resynced
Ubisoft lists Resynced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. On PC, Ubisoft names the Ubisoft Store, Steam and Epic Games Store. Ubisoft also identifies the game as verified for Steam Deck. Availability, edition contents and purchase options can still differ by country and storefront, so use the store serving your account’s region.

PlayStation 5 installation
- Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5 and search the complete title, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
- Open the product page and confirm that it is the 2026 remake, then choose Standard, Deluxe or Collector’s content where those options are offered in your region.
- Buy or redeem the product, select Download, and allow the full download and installation to finish.
- Start the game from the PS5 home screen. Keep the console connected for the initial download and any connected Animus Hub features you intend to use.
Physical copies are handled through local retailers. Ubisoft’s launch information confirms that physical copies are offered through local retail channels, but stock and edition selection are location-dependent. Check the case or retailer description for the PS5 version and the exact edition rather than relying on a generic “Black Flag” search result.
Xbox Series X|S installation
- Open the Microsoft Store on the console and search for the complete Resynced title.
- Check the product details to ensure that the listing supports Xbox Series X|S and that the selected edition matches your intended extras.
- Complete the purchase or redeem a code, then choose Install.
- Launch Resynced after installation. The first download requires an internet connection even if you plan to play the campaign offline later.
PC installation from a named storefront
- Choose one storefront—Ubisoft Store, Steam or Epic Games Store—and sign in to the account that will own the game.
- Search for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, not just “Black Flag.”
- Verify the 2026 remake, platform requirements shown by that storefront and the edition contents before paying.
- Install through the storefront’s library. Leave the internet connection active until the download, installation and any required first launch steps are complete.
- Start the game from the same launcher or its installed shortcut. If the launcher asks you to connect a Ubisoft account, complete that account sign-in before attempting offline play.
Storefront catalogs and regional availability can change. The named PC storefronts are the options Ubisoft identifies for Resynced; they are not a guarantee that every edition or promotion appears in every country.
Steam Deck
Ubisoft identifies Resynced as Steam Deck verified. Install it from the Steam library using the Resynced listing, complete the initial download while connected, and then test the game once online before taking the Deck away from a network. Verification is a platform-compatibility designation, not a promise that every connected feature works without internet access.

Yes, after the initial download, the full main campaign is playable offline. Ubisoft’s product FAQ states that once the game is downloaded, the full main campaign can be played without an internet connection. You still need an internet connection to download the game initially.

What requires a connection
- The initial download and installation.
- Animus Hub features identified by Ubisoft as live or connected features: Store, Anomalies, Projects and Vault.
- Any launcher, account authentication or update process that your platform requires before it permits offline mode.
What works offline
- The main Resynced campaign, once the game has completed its download and first setup.
- Previously installed single-player content that does not depend on an Animus Hub connection.
Prepare for an offline session
- Connect the console, PC or Steam Deck to the internet.
- Finish the complete download and installation rather than stopping at a playable partial download.
- Launch the game once while connected so account and first-run checks can complete.
- Open the main campaign and confirm that the installed content starts normally.
- Close the game, disconnect from the network, and launch it again before travelling or relying on offline access.
If the campaign starts offline but the Store, Anomalies, Projects or Vault do not load, that is expected: Ubisoft lists those Animus Hub elements as connection-dependent. Reconnect when you need them.
Choose the edition by its included content
Edition names describe extras rather than different campaigns. Confirm the contents shown for your country and platform before buying, because regional and platform packages can differ.

Standard edition
Standard is the straightforward choice when you only need the base Resynced game. It avoids paying for extras you will not use, but the exact commercial offer and availability remain dependent on the store and territory.
Deluxe edition
Deluxe adds the Master Assassin Character and Naval packs. These are digital additions named by Ubisoft. Read the product page to confirm whether the packs are delivered automatically, by a code, or through an in-game entitlement on your platform.

Collector’s edition
Collector’s includes the Deluxe content and physical items: an Edward figurine, brooch, SteelBook and cloth map. It is a physical package, so confirm local stock, shipping region and the contents printed on the retailer’s listing. Do not assume that a digital Collector’s label includes the same objects.
Physical copies and optional collector material
Ubisoft’s launch guidance says physical copies are available through local retailers. Because inventory is local, check the retailer’s current listing for platform, edition, language, region and delivery date. A product page that simply says “Black Flag” may refer to the 2013 original rather than Resynced.
Ubisoft also names The Art of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag music on vinyl as optional collector products. They are separate from the game editions; availability and ordering terms were not established here, so treat them as optional merchandise rather than a requirement for playing either release.

Streaming and other access routes
Ubisoft’s launch guide lists GeForce NOW and Blacknut among streaming options. Catalog inclusion, supported devices, territory, subscription requirements and performance can change. Verify that Resynced is currently offered in your country and on your device before choosing a streaming route. Streaming does not remove the distinction between the 2013 original and the 2026 remake: confirm the exact title in the service catalog.

Troubleshooting the most common selection and launch mistakes
The store shows the wrong Black Flag
Open the full product details and check the title and year. The original should identify Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and 2013; Resynced should identify the remake and 2026 release. If the page does not show a clear year or edition, do not purchase until the platform holder or retailer clarifies it.
The game will not start without internet
Resynced requires an initial internet connection for its download. Connect the device, finish installation and launch once online. After that, the main campaign is the part Ubisoft states is playable offline. If an account or launcher still blocks offline startup, reconnect and complete any pending authentication or update step before disconnecting again.
The campaign works but Animus Hub items are unavailable
Reconnect to the internet. Store, Anomalies, Projects and Vault are listed as connected Animus Hub features, so their absence offline is normal rather than evidence that the campaign installation failed.

A physical edition is missing an advertised item
Compare the box contents and purchase confirmation with the edition name. Deluxe digital packs and Collector’s physical items are different entitlements. Contact the retailer or platform support with the order details if a promised code, figurine, brooch, SteelBook or cloth map is absent.
The original game cannot be found
Search the complete 2013 title rather than “Black Flag” alone, and try the platform’s own catalog filters for release year or publisher. Current availability of the original was not verified for every storefront, so an absent listing may reflect regional or platform availability rather than a problem with your search.
A final pre-download checklist
- Have you decided between the 2013 original and the 2026 remake?
- Does the listing show the complete title and correct year?
- Is your platform PS5, Xbox Series X|S or a supported PC storefront for Resynced?
- If using Steam Deck, does the current Steam listing still show the verified designation?
- Have you selected Standard, Deluxe or Collector’s based on the extras you actually want?
- Can you connect to the internet for the initial download and first launch?
- If you need offline play, have you launched once online and tested the campaign before disconnecting?
- If buying physically, have you confirmed local stock, platform and package contents?
The simplest way to avoid the naming trap is to treat the releases as separate games: choose Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for the 2013 original, or choose Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced for Ubisoft’s remake released July 9, 2026.
