Yes. ARC Raiders supports solo play: select a map while alone and you can be matched with other solo Raiders, although squads of up to three and crossplay are part of the same multiplayer ecosystem. A successful solo raid follows a simple loop—deploy, loot, survive, extract—then turns the haul into crafting, trader progress, and upgrades back in Speranza. The safest solo habit is to leave with a good-enough bag rather than chase a perfect one: every item outside your Safe Pocket is lost when you die.
What solo play means in ARC Raiders
ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure set on a future Earth threatened by mechanized ARC machines and rival Raiders. The official PlayStation description explicitly places squads and solo players in competition for surface resources and a safe return. Epic’s guide, published October 29, 2025, says you need an Embark ID, can select a map while solo, and are commonly matched with other solo players. The game supports PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with crossplay.
At launch there were four large maps, each with different landmarks, resource concentrations, loot values, and extraction points. The map you choose therefore changes the risk of a solo run; a route that is quiet and profitable on one map may be exposed or heavily contested on another. You can also encounter full squads, so “solo matchmaking” does not mean that every opponent is alone.

That was a time-limited live-service test, not evidence of a permanent solo-only or PvE mode. Unless the game’s current menu says otherwise, plan for Raiders and ARC machines in the same raid.

The solo objective: convert a safe raid into progression
Deploying with expensive gear is not success by itself. Your useful outcome is the value that reaches Speranza. Extracted loot can be sold, recycled, used for crafting and upgrades, or applied to trader quests. A death discards carried equipment and loot except for items stored in the protected Safe Pocket.
| Raid phase | Solo priority | What can go wrong |
|---|---|---|
| Deploy | Choose a route, realistic loadout, and nearby extraction. | You enter over-equipped, under-supplied, or without an exit plan. |
| Loot | Search compact areas while controlling noise, stamina, and bag weight. | A long container search exposes you, or greed fills the bag before the return trip. |
| Survive | Avoid unnecessary fights; disengage before stamina and cover run out. | Combat alerts more machines or players and a second attacker arrives. |
| Extract | Call an exit early, watch approaches, and step inside the extraction zone. | You wait beside a loud exit, get third-partied, or arrive too late to leave. |
| Recover | Sell or recycle duplicates, craft, complete trader work, and spend skill points. | You discard materials needed for upgrades or spread skill points without a purpose. |
Use the four-way test for every decision: noise exposure, time to exit, loot value, and cost of failure. A modest route that preserves your stamina and secures a safe extraction often beats a famous high-value landmark that leaves you overloaded and visible.
Prepare a solo loadout before deployment
Use a Free Loadout while learning
Epic recommends a Free Loadout when you are learning a map or practicing combat. It provides low-tier equipment and some ammunition without risking your high-tier gear. The trade-off is reduced inventory and Safe Pocket capacity, so treat it as a practice configuration rather than a way to carry a full haul.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallMatch ammunition to both weapons
The loadout system supports up to two weapons, ammunition, quick-use consumables, augments, and a Safe Pocket. Before confirming deployment, verify that each equipped weapon has its correct ammunition type. Entering with a powerful weapon but no usable rounds turns a planned fight into an avoidable emergency. Carry healing and shield-recovery items as well; a solo player cannot rely on a teammate to revive or cover a treatment animation.
| Loadout element | Solo setup check | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Primary weapon | Bring the ammunition it actually uses. | Reliable damage is more valuable than a weapon you cannot feed. |
| Second weapon | Choose a complementary range or target role and pack its ammunition. | Two options help you respond to machines, players, or confined spaces without carrying redundant gear. |
| Healing | Carry enough to recover after one engagement and still reach an exit. | Taking damage without a recovery plan forces a risky retreat or a premature extraction. |
| Shield recovery | Keep at least one practical recovery option in quick use. | Shield recharge sounds can also reveal your position, so recover behind cover. |
| Augments and consumables | Select items that support your route and escape plan. | Solo value comes from mobility, information, and survival rather than maximum damage alone. |
| Safe Pocket | Reserve slots for keys, quest items, blueprints, rare components, or costly crafting materials. | These items survive a failed extraction and protect future progression. |
Set audio up as equipment
Use headphones and enable audio settings that make positional cues clear. A current beginner guide identifies footsteps, gunfire, container looting, shield recharge, explosions, and abilities as audible information. Lower music or other nonessential channels if they mask those cues. Audio is not decoration in a solo raid: it tells you when to stop opening a box, when another Raider is approaching, and when a fight has become too loud to remain in place.
Plan a route before you touch the ground
Choose a first area and a fallback exit
Each map has recognizable landmarks and different resource patterns. Before deploying, identify the area where you will make your first controlled loot stop and note a nearby extraction option. Do not wait until the bag is full to look for a way out. A route should include an initial destination, a direction toward an exit, and at least one fallback if another player controls the obvious path.

Compare routes by risk, not headline loot
| Route choice | Noise exposure | Time to exit | Loot value | When it makes sense solo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Compact side buildings near a known exit | Low to moderate | Short | Moderate | You are learning the map, carrying a Free Loadout, or already have enough for progression. |
| Large landmark or dense resource zone | Moderate to high | Longer | Potentially high | You have a clear escape line, enough stamina, and a reason to accept more competition. |
| Route toward a loud elevator or metro station | High during departure | Predictable but exposed | Depends on the surrounding area | The exit is close, approaches can be watched, and waiting is safer than crossing the map. |
| Keyed Raider Hatch | Quieter | Short once reached | Route-dependent | You already possess the key and can reach the hatch without a dangerous detour. |
Do not detour across an exposed map merely to use a theoretically quieter exit. A nearby, loud extraction that you can secure may have a lower total risk than a keyed hatch that requires a long sprint through contested ground.

Loot safely: search deliberately and leave before greed wins
Search one compact area at a time
Opening containers grants experience, and the beginner guidance notes that container XP is awarded even when a container is empty. Searching still takes several seconds and produces noise. Clear one building or compact cluster, then pause and listen before moving to the next. This rhythm limits the number of directions from which an attacker can appear and keeps your retreat understandable.
- Enter from an approach that gives you cover and a view of likely exits.
- Search the highest-value or quest-relevant containers first rather than opening everything automatically.
- After each search, stop moving briefly and listen for footsteps, gunfire, machines, or another player looting.
- Check your inventory before crossing into a new building so you do not discover an overfilled bag in the open.
- Leave when your bag is full, your route is exposed, or the value of another search is lower than the risk of staying.
Protect the items that preserve future runs
Place items with long-term value in the Safe Pocket before taking ordinary loot. A practical priority order is:
- Quest items and rare components.
- Keys and blueprints.
- Expensive crafting materials and essential ARC parts.
- Medical supplies and ammunition you will need for the next deployment.
- Common crafting materials and junk, only when capacity remains.
Do not fill protected slots with cheap items merely because they fit. The Safe Pocket is insurance against a failed extraction, so its opportunity cost is highest when you are carrying a quest item or rare component that cannot be replaced easily.
Use encumbrance as an extraction signal
Inventory space and stamina are survival resources. A full or heavy bag can turn a safe withdrawal into a slow, noisy crossing. Once the important items are secured, stop searching. The extra common component is not worth losing the entire carried load, your weapons, and your time in the raid.

Every sound creates information for nearby players. Container searches, footsteps, gunfire, shield recharge, explosions, and abilities can reveal your position. The same cues also reveal someone else’s position and state, so listen before committing to a fight.

| Sound | What it may tell you | Solo response |
|---|---|---|
| Footsteps | A Raider is moving nearby; direction and timing matter. | Stop looting, get behind cover, and decide whether to hide, reposition, or leave. |
| Gunfire | A fight is in progress or has just ended. | Do not assume the shooter is weak; wait for a clear route or avoid the area. |
| Container interaction | Someone is searching and temporarily focused on an inventory screen. | Use the information to disengage or set a controlled angle, not as an automatic invitation to attack. |
| Shield recharge | A damaged player may be recovering close by; your own recharge can also expose you. | Heal behind solid cover and relocate afterward if the area is contested. |
| Explosions or abilities | Machines or players have generated a loud event that can attract more combatants. | Expect third parties and avoid standing in the obvious aftermath. |
Silence is a tactical resource. If you have no reason to open the next container immediately, move into a protected position and listen for a few seconds. That pause can reveal an approaching player and costs less than fighting while surprised.
Choose fights instead of accepting them
Against ARC machines
Machines are not free loot. Epic warns that alerts can draw more robots and players, multiplying the danger of a single encounter. When selecting weapons, consider the ARC Armor Penetration stat rather than judging only by general damage. Epic’s examples identify Ferro and Hullcracker as stronger against machines than Kettle, Stitcher, or Bobcat. That does not make the latter weapons useless; it means your target and weapon characteristics should match before you start shooting.
If a machine blocks your route but does not guard an essential objective, detour or wait. A quiet extraction with a smaller bag is better than a loud fight that summons additional enemies.

Against another Raider
Use footsteps and gunfire to estimate whether a player is alone, fighting a machine, looting, or moving toward an exit. A distracted target is not automatically a safe target: their teammates may be nearby, and the noise may already have attracted another squad. Take a fight when you have cover, a retreat line, adequate ammunition, and enough stamina to disengage if the first shots do not decide it.
After you win, relocate before looting
The combat area is now a signal. Another Raider can follow the gunfire, find the body, and attack while you are reading the inventory. Move away from the fight, heal, recharge your shield, and listen. Return only when the approach is quiet and the loot is worth the renewed exposure.
Use a simple fight-or-leave test
- Fight when the target blocks a necessary route, you have cover and ammunition, and your escape path remains open.
- Disengage when your stamina is low, the area is loud, multiple signatures are present, or the fight would take you away from your planned exit.
- Leave immediately when you already have a valuable haul and the encounter is optional.

Manage stamina and movement like a health bar
Do not sprint everywhere. Keep part of the stamina bar available for the moment you must cross an opening, break line of sight, or reach an extraction before another player. Walking, using cover, and choosing a better angle often protect you more than chasing a kill.
Before entering a building, ask whether you can still sprint out if a machine activates or a Raider appears. If the answer is no, slow down, recover stamina, and change position. Encumbrance makes this discipline more important because a full bag can lengthen the retreat that stamina must cover.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Extract early and secure the final approach
Know the available exits
Epic lists Raider Hatches, Cargo Elevators, Airshafts, and other extraction points. The current beginner guidance notes that loud elevators and metro stations announce departure, while Raider Hatches are quieter but require a key. Each exit has a different balance of noise, travel time, and access requirements.
Call the exit before the final moments
- Choose the exit while you still have time to change direction.
- Move toward it with stamina reserved for the last approach.
- From cover, watch the routes that another Raider would use to reach or contest the exit.
- Call the extraction early rather than standing in the open waiting for the timer to become urgent.
- Step inside the extraction zone; do not stand beside it and assume proximity is enough.
- If gunfire, footsteps, or a new machine alert changes the risk, break contact and use your fallback route instead of forcing the timer.
When a keyed hatch is worth it
A Raider Hatch can reduce the sound-based attention that a loud elevator or metro departure creates, but only when you already have the key and the path is practical. Do not cross the map with a full bag simply to avoid a noisy exit. A close exit that you can watch is often safer than a theoretically quiet one reached through exposed terrain.
Know when the haul is enough
There is no teammate to revive you or cover a late retreat. Once quest items, rare components, or a worthwhile amount of materials are secured, extract. Repeated successful returns build progression faster than occasional spectacular runs followed by total losses.
Recover in Speranza and prepare the next run
Sort the haul immediately
Back in Speranza, sell or recycle duplicates, retain core crafting materials, and use valuable loot for crafting and upgrades. The current guide specifically recommends keeping metal parts, mechanical parts, and fabric. Do not liquidate every duplicate automatically; compare it with your next workshop requirement and active trader quests first.

Upgrade one workshop station at a time
Concentrate materials on a coherent upgrade path instead of spreading them across every station. The current beginner recommendation is to start with the Gunsmith or Utility Station, depending on whether your immediate limitation is weapon capability or practical raid support. This is a progression choice, not a universal ranking: select the station that removes the bottleneck you actually experience.
Spend skill points for escape value
The official PlayStation page identifies three skill paths: survival, mobility, and conditioning. For a new solo player, the current guide favors movement and stamina early, then adds survival utility. That order reflects the solo constraint: stamina determines whether a bad engagement can be escaped, while mobility improves the odds of reaching cover and an extraction.
Solo troubleshooting: what to change when runs fail
“I die while looting an ordinary building.”
Shorten each search cycle, stop to listen after opening a container, and leave through a different approach when possible. You are probably treating every container as mandatory. Take the experience and high-priority items, then move before a nearby player can triangulate repeated interaction sounds.
“Machines keep turning a small fight into a disaster.”
Check whether the machine is optional, review the ARC Armor Penetration value of the weapon you selected, and avoid firing from a location that exposes your route. If an alert starts, break line of sight and let the area settle rather than adding more noise.
“I win fights but lose the raid afterward.”
Relocate before looting, heal behind cover, and choose extraction immediately after a valuable victory. The gunfire may have advertised your position, and a second attacker often arrives while you are stationary in the combat area.
“I reach extraction with no stamina.”
Stop sprinting between every building, reduce unnecessary detours, and keep a reserve before crossing open ground. Check your bag weight earlier; an overloaded route can consume the stamina that should have been reserved for the final approach.
“I keep losing the items that matter.”
Move quest items, keys, blueprints, rare components, and expensive crafting materials into the Safe Pocket before filling ordinary inventory slots. Free Loadouts have reduced Safe Pocket and inventory capacity, so use them for learning rather than for carrying irreplaceable progress.
Recommended Free Tools
“The obvious exit is always camped.”
Call it earlier from cover, observe the approaches, and keep a fallback exit in mind. If you possess a Raider Hatch key and can reach it without a long exposed detour, its quieter activation may reduce attention. Otherwise, choose the exit that minimizes total travel and time in danger, not simply the one with the lowest sound.
A repeatable solo checklist
- Confirm the map, route, first loot area, and fallback extraction.
- Match ammunition to both weapons and carry healing plus shield recovery.
- Reserve Safe Pocket slots for quest items, keys, blueprints, rare components, and expensive materials.
- Keep audio cues clear and use headphones if available.
- Search compact areas, pause to listen, and stop when the bag or route becomes risky.
- Fight only with cover, ammunition, stamina, and a retreat line.
- After combat, relocate and heal before touching the loot.
- Call extraction early, watch approaches, and step inside the zone.
- In Speranza, sort duplicates, retain core materials, advance trader quests, and upgrade one useful station.
- Spend early skill points on movement and stamina if escaping engagements is your current weakness.
Solo play is therefore less about clearing every machine or winning every encounter than about controlling information and timing. Hear more than you reveal, carry only what you can protect, and leave while the route is still favorable. That discipline turns the deploy–loot–survive–extract loop into dependable progression.
