You can customize an LG TV running webOS in three practical ways: reorganize the Home screen and app cards, configure Quick Settings and picture controls, and choose whether the television starts on Home or the last-used input. The exact labels and menu paths depend on the TV’s model year and webOS release, so identify those before changing anything.

The instructions below separate model-specific routes instead of treating every LG television as if it used the same menus. They also distinguish cosmetic changes from picture adjustments, because a setting that looks good in one room or type of video may be wrong for another.

Before changing anything, identify the TV’s software

LG changes menu names and available options between release years. A 2023 television using webOS 23 can show a different Home-screen editor from a 2020 set using webOS 5.0, and some controls also vary by country or model. Check the model label or the television’s About This TV information and note the model year and webOS version.

Keep the Magic Remote available if possible. The documented Home-screen editor uses its pointer, navigation wheel and Wheel (OK) button. If your remote is missing or damaged, check the exact TV model and remote compatibility before purchasing an LG Magic Remote replacement; a generic remote may not provide the wheel or pointer functions used by these instructions.

Way 1: Reorder the Home screen, cards and apps

The Home screen is made from cards and app entries. On supported sets, you can move those items into a more useful order, remove some cards and add cards that LG makes available for your model.

Edit Home-screen cards on 2023 webOS 23

  1. Press the Home button and move the pointer to the card you want to change.
  2. Press and hold the remote’s Wheel (OK) button. On the 2023 webOS interface documented in LG SimRoom, this opens Edit Card List mode.
  3. Use the navigation wheel to move the selected card to a new position.
  4. Press Wheel (OK) again to set the card in that position.
  5. To remove a removable card, select the arrow above it. Some cards are fixed and have no remove control.
  6. To add a card, choose one of the available cards in the list at the top, then place it where you want it.

This editor is specifically documented for 2023 televisions running webOS 23. LG cautions that settings and features vary by model, so the presence, order or name of cards on another year’s set may not match these steps.

Manage the app row without guessing the menu path

LG’s support guidance for installing or deleting apps says the app list can be edited to delete apps or change their order. The support page presents separate instructions for multiple webOS versions. Select your TV’s webOS version on that page before following any detailed app-management directions; do not assume the 2023 card editor is also the app editor on an older set.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When an app will not move or delete, first check whether you are editing the app list rather than a Home-screen card. A card can be fixed even when apps remain editable, and an app-management control may be unavailable for a particular model or region. If the support page offers a version selector, choose the release that matches your television before trying again.

A sensible Home-screen layout

  • Put the services or inputs you use daily at the beginning of the editable row.
  • Keep occasional apps farther back rather than deleting them if you may need them later.
  • Remove only cards that expose a remove arrow; the absence of that control means the card is not removable through the documented editor.
  • After rearranging, press Home again and verify the order from the normal viewing screen.

Way 2: Configure Quick Settings and picture controls

Quick Settings is the fastest route to common viewing changes. LG describes it as a lightweight panel for Picture Mode, Sound Mode, Aspect Ratio, Sleep Timer, Parental Lock and Advanced Settings. The configurable items differ depending on model or country, so a missing item is not necessarily a fault.

Use Quick Settings for one-off changes

  1. Open the Quick Settings panel with the remote’s settings button.
  2. Highlight the control you need, such as Picture Mode, Sound Mode or Sleep Timer.
  3. Choose a value and confirm it with Wheel (OK).
  4. Open Advanced Settings when the quick control does not expose the adjustment you need.

Use this panel for temporary changes, such as switching to a different aspect ratio for unusual video or setting a sleep timer. If you want a repeatable picture setup, enter the full picture menu instead of changing several independent quick controls without noting what you changed.

Choose a picture mode for the room and content

LG’s webOS 22 guide recommends selecting a picture mode according to viewing environment, personal preference or video type. It then provides controls for aspect ratio, brightness, color, clarity and reset options. Room lighting, screen reflectance, the television’s capabilities, the selected settings and the video itself all affect the result.

That is why there is no universally best mode or numeric setting. A mode that appears comfortable in a bright room can look too dim at night, while a vivid-looking option can exaggerate color or clarity on a high-quality film. Treat LG’s suggested values for natural light, artificial light and a dark room as starting guidance, not as a measured calibration for your individual panel.

Viewing situation How to choose What to adjust next
Natural daylight Start with the mode LG associates with a naturally lit room, then check whether shadow detail remains visible. Brightness and clarity first; avoid increasing color simply to compensate for glare.
Artificial indoor light Use the room-lighting guidance for artificial light and judge neutral whites against nearby objects. Fine-tune color and brightness, then check skin tones and subtitles.
Dark room Begin with the dark-room guidance and reduce eye strain before pursuing a brighter image. Check brightness, contrast and clarity with both a dark scene and a bright scene.
Different video types Compare the mode intended for the content type with your preferred general mode. Verify aspect ratio so older or unusual material is not stretched or cropped.

Reset when experimentation makes the image worse

If several changes produce an unnatural image, use the picture menu’s reset option rather than trying to remember every value. Re-evaluate the result with the same room lighting and the same type of video you normally watch. A reset restores a clean baseline; it does not create a professional calibration for a particular room.

Way 3: Choose what appears when the TV turns on

Supported LG televisions can start on the Home screen or on the last-used input. The setting is called Power On Screen on newer sets and Home Auto Launch on several older releases. Use the path for your TV’s release year exactly.

TV release year Menu path Startup choices or notes
2026 and later System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Power On Screen Choose Home or the last-used input where supported.
2023–2025 General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Power On Screen Choose the desired startup destination.
2021–2022 General → System → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch Use the available Home or last-input option.
2020 General → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch Set the startup behavior on supported models.
2019 General → Additional Settings → Home Settings → Home Auto Launch Set the startup behavior on supported models.

Set the startup destination

  1. Open Settings, then All Settings if your model shows that intermediate screen.
  2. Follow the row in the table that matches the TV’s release year.
  3. Choose Home when you want the launcher and cards immediately.
  4. Choose Last Used Input when you normally return to a game console, set-top box or other connected source.
  5. Power the television off and back on with the remote to test the result.

LG specifically advises using the remote to power on the television. Pressing the physical power button on the TV can produce a different screen. Menu availability also varies by model, so an absent option means that your set may not support that startup choice.

Older sets, Quick Start+ and Q Start+

LG’s startup guidance lists older-version paths involving Quick Start+ or Q Start+ and advises enabling that feature when applicable. The exact label depends on the release. If the TV ignores the selected startup destination, look in its power or general settings for Quick Start+ or Q Start+, enable it when the option exists, then test again with the remote. Do not assume the feature is present on every year or model.

Use Basic Home on a 2020 webOS 5.0 television

A narrower legacy layout option is documented for 2020 televisions running webOS 5.0:

  1. Open All Settings.
  2. Choose General.
  3. Open Home Settings.
  4. Select Home Style.
  5. Choose Basic Home.

Basic Home is a model- and version-specific choice, not a universal switch for every LG webOS television. If your menu does not contain Home Style, use the startup and card-editing controls available for your model instead.

Which customization route should you use?

Your goal Use this route Main limitation
Make frequently used services easier to reach Home-screen card or app editing Some cards cannot be removed, and app controls vary by webOS version.
Change picture or sound quickly Quick Settings Available controls differ by model or country.
Create a repeatable viewing look Full picture settings The best values depend on room light, content and the individual panel.
Return directly to a connected device Power On Screen or Home Auto Launch Menu names vary by year; remote power-on and Quick Start behavior matter.
Use a simpler 2020 layout Basic Home on webOS 5.0 Only documented for that specific year and version.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • The menu path does not exist: Recheck the model year and webOS version. LG publishes different paths for different releases.
  • A card will not disappear: Look for the arrow above the card. If it is missing, that card is fixed in the available editor.
  • An app will not move: Open the app-management instructions for the correct webOS version rather than using the 2023 card-editing procedure.
  • Quick Settings lacks a control: Availability differs by model and country; check Advanced Settings or the full picture or sound menu.
  • The picture looks wrong after changes: Use the picture reset option, then reassess in the lighting and with the content you normally watch.
  • The TV still opens on the wrong screen: Confirm the year-specific startup path, enable Quick Start+ or Q Start+ if your model provides it, and test by powering on with the remote.
  • Basic Home is unavailable: That option is documented only for 2020 webOS 5.0 televisions and is not a general webOS feature.

These three routes cover the meaningful customization choices documented by LG: organize what you see, speed up access to viewing controls, and decide where the TV lands after power-on. Start with the model-specific menu path, make one category of change at a time, and test the result from the normal viewing screen.
