Patch planning starts with the installed release, not with a command copied from an older article. Cisco’s October 7, 2026 advisories identify Cisco License On-Prem 10-202609 as not vulnerable. Installations on SSM On-Prem releases through 9-202601 are directed to migrate to a fixed release, so they should not be treated as routine in-place patches.
Record the release and deployment topology, verify the supported route in the exact target package documentation, protect the database, and use the package-specific console procedure. The example command and filename in Cisco’s older upgrade article are not a universal recipe for every release.
What the October 2026 advisories mean for your installation
Cisco now uses the product name Cisco License On-Prem in its security material, while many installations and older documents still say SSM On-Prem. Treat those names as part of the same product family when matching an installed release to current Cisco documentation.
The hardening advisory published October 7, 2026 lists License On-Prem 10-202609 as not vulnerable. It directs SSM On-Prem 9-202601 and earlier releases to migrate to a fixed release rather than implying that an ordinary patch can be applied in place. A separate vulnerability advisory lists affected 10.x releases through 10-202608 and also identifies 10-202609 as not vulnerable. Those are separate advisory tables; do not merge their version columns or assume that a fix listed for one issue automatically describes every supported migration path.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Cisco states in both advisories that there are no workarounds addressing the vulnerabilities. Delaying a required update therefore leaves the documented exposure in place; restricting access or adding a compensating control may reduce operational exposure but is not a substitute for the Cisco software update.
Severity information
The hardening advisory groups findings by vulnerability class and reports these maximum CVSS scores:
| Identifier and weakness class | Maximum CVSS reported by Cisco | What the number represents |
|---|---|---|
| CVE-2026-76480 / CWE-306 | 9.8 | Missing authentication for a critical function |
| CVE-2026-76482 / CWE-347 | 10.0 | Improper cryptographic signature verification |
| CVE-2026-76483 / CWE-522 | 9.1 | Insufficiently protected credentials |
| CVE-2026-76484 / CWE-94 | 8.8 | Code injection |
These are maximum scores for each grouped class, not a measurement of the risk in your particular network. The separate vulnerability advisory displays an overall base score of 9.1 and describes, among other issues, an unauthenticated account-password-reset vulnerability rated 9.1, an unauthenticated API vulnerability rated 9.1, and authenticated command-injection and SQL-injection issues rated 4.9 each. Keep each score attached to its specific issue instead of describing all findings as equally severe.

Decide whether you need an in-place update or a migration
Use this decision table before downloading software. It deliberately avoids promising a source-to-target sequence that Cisco has not documented for every starting release.
| Starting condition | Operational interpretation | Action before maintenance |
|---|---|---|
| SSM On-Prem 9-202601 or earlier | Cisco’s hardening advisory directs these releases to a migration to a fixed release. | Obtain the current migration guide for the target package. Do not assume an in-place patch is supported. |
| 10.x release through 10-202608 | The October vulnerability advisory identifies these releases as affected; the fixed target is in the current 10-202609 line. | Follow the target package’s release notes for supported source versions and any intermediate steps. |
| Release not clearly identified | You cannot select a safe package or procedure without the exact build. | Use the administrative console and Cisco support records to establish the installed release first. |
| High-availability deployment | Older 9.x documentation calls out a separate HA procedure. | Use the current HA instructions for the target release; do not process the cluster as a standalone node. |
| Standalone virtual machine | Cisco recommends a current database backup before upgrading a VM. | Take and verify the backup, then follow the VM and package-specific procedure. |
The precise route from every historical release was not established in the available Cisco material. The release notes and migration guide shipped with the exact current package are the authority for supported source versions, intermediate upgrades, service impact and rollback limitations.

- The exact installed SSM On-Prem or License On-Prem release and build.
- Whether the system is standalone, a virtual machine, or an HA cluster.
- Hypervisor and virtual-machine details, if applicable.
- Connected products and any licensing or synchronization dependencies.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Confirm the installed release
Use the product’s administrative console or its documented system-information view and record the complete release string, including the date-style suffix. Do not infer the version from a virtual-machine name, a backup filename or an old change ticket. If the displayed build does not match the version in your support record, stop and reconcile the discrepancy before selecting software.
Classify the topology
Identify whether the node is standalone or part of HA, and document which node is active. Confirm the current synchronization state and maintenance dependencies. An HA cluster can require an order of operations, node draining or a controlled failover that is absent from a standalone procedure.
Check Cisco’s supported route and target package
Start with the current Cisco security advisories and fixed-release information, then open the release notes and migration guide included with the target download. Check all of the following in the same maintenance plan:
- Whether the installed source release is supported directly, or must first move through an intermediate release.
- Whether the target is an in-place update, a platform migration, or a rebuild-and-restore operation.
- Whether standalone and HA installations use different procedures.
- Required downtime, reboot behavior, disk space and memory conditions.
- Backup, restore and rollback constraints for the specific source and target.
- Post-upgrade synchronization, certificate, license and integration checks.
Older 9.x notes describe moving from SSM On-Prem 8 on CentOS to SSM On-Prem 9 on Alma Linux through a migration guide. That historical instruction is not a substitute for the current 10.x migration instructions. Do not copy an 8-to-9 path, or an old 10-202606 example, into a 2026 production change without confirming that Cisco lists it for your source and target.

Back up a virtual-machine deployment
Before upgrading a VM, Cisco recommends a current database backup. Take the backup using the product’s supported method, record its completion time and retention location, and verify that it can be read or restored according to your organization’s recovery procedure. A hypervisor snapshot may be useful as an additional safeguard, but do not treat an unverified snapshot as a replacement for the application-consistent database backup required by Cisco’s guide.

Record the configuration and certificates needed to reconnect licensing services. Confirm that the backup belongs to this instance and was taken after the last accepted configuration change. Keep the backup outside the VM being upgraded so that a failed disk or failed migration does not remove both the system and its recovery copy.
Review integrations and TLS requirements
List products that synchronize with the on-premises licensing service and check their support statements for the target release. Cisco’s older 9.x notes specifically mention enabling TLS 1.2 legacy ciphers after an upgrade when certain legacy products, including Cisco Unity Connection and Cisco HCM-F, still require them. This setting is version- and integration-dependent; consult the current target documentation before enabling it, because broad cipher changes can weaken security or be unnecessary for modern clients.
Prepare an abort point
Define the condition that stops the change: an unsupported source version, missing entitlement, failed backup verification, an unexpected HA state, or a package-signature error. Record how services will be returned to the pre-change state using Cisco’s documented recovery method. Do not invent a downgrade sequence; many platform migrations are not reversible by simply reinstalling the old image.
Download and verify the Cisco package
Download the exact entitled upgrade or migration package from Cisco’s supported software portal path. Keep the update script and its matching signature file together. Verify the filename, release, checksum or signature instructions and platform requirements against the target package’s documentation before transferring anything to production.
Cisco’s documented console workflow uses SCP from inside the On-Prem console to transfer both files. The transfer mechanism and the required signature file are part of the procedure; copying only the update script can cause validation to fail or leave the package unusable.
Use a controlled staging area
- Download the package on an administrator workstation with the entitled Cisco account.
- Record the package name, target release, download date and the administrator who obtained it.
- Retrieve the corresponding signature file and keep it in the same staging directory.
- Compare the package’s published verification information with the downloaded files.
- Restrict staging-directory access and remove unrelated installers so the wrong release cannot be selected during the change.
Run the release-specific console procedure
Do not use a universal command sequence. The exact command, filename and order depend on the source release, target package and deployment mode. Cisco’s upgrade article demonstrates a console command beginning with upgrade patches: and requires the matching signature file, but its example package is 10-202606. That example is older than the current 10-202609 fixed target and must not be copied as if it were current.

- Open the On-Prem administrative console with an account authorized to perform the upgrade.
- Confirm the displayed installed release and compare it with the maintenance record.
- Use the console’s documented SCP method to transfer the update script and matching signature file from the staging system.
- Check the transferred filenames and any package-integrity result shown by the console.
- Run the exact upgrade command and argument format specified in the target package’s guide. Substitute only filenames documented for that package.
- Remain connected to the console while the package is validated and processed. Do not reboot, power off the VM or terminate the session unless the guide explicitly instructs you to do so.
- Record prompts, warnings, reboots and completion messages in the change record.
Cisco reports a typical processing estimate of 5–15 minutes for the procedure shown in its older article. That estimate applies to that 10-202606 example, not to every migration, VM size, HA arrangement or target release. Schedule a maintenance window long enough for the package’s current documentation and for validation afterward.

For HA, follow the target release’s separate HA procedure, including the documented node order and failover controls. Verify cluster health before beginning and after each stage the guide defines. Never apply a standalone sequence to both nodes in parallel unless Cisco explicitly says to do so.
Validate the result and synchronize the system
When the package reports completion, validation is part of the upgrade, not an optional cleanup step.
- Confirm that the administrative console reports the intended target release and that all expected services are running.
- Check the system and application logs for package, database, certificate, authentication or integration errors.
- For HA, confirm that both nodes show the expected roles and cluster health.
- Perform the system synchronization required by Cisco’s procedure.
- Verify licensing communication with the relevant Smart or Virtual Account and check that expected entitlements remain available.
- Test representative connected products and confirm that no client depends on a deprecated TLS setting.
- Retain the pre-upgrade backup, console output and validation results according to your change policy.
If synchronization fails, capture the exact error and the state of each node before attempting another upgrade action. Repeating the command blindly can make diagnosis harder and may violate the package’s recovery instructions.

The package is not visible or the entitlement is missing
Check that the Cisco.com user is linked to the correct Smart Account or Virtual Account and that the account is entitled to the target software. Do not obtain an installer from an unverified mirror or rename a package to make it appear to match the target. If entitlement cannot be corrected before the maintenance window, postpone the change and contact Cisco support.
The signature or integrity check fails
Confirm that the update script and matching signature file belong to the same package and were transferred completely through the documented SCP workflow. Re-download from Cisco, verify the published integrity information and repeat the transfer. A failed signature check is a stop condition, not a prompt to bypass validation.

The source release is outside the documented range
Stop before running the upgrade command. Retrieve the migration guide for the exact target and ask Cisco TAC or a contracted maintenance provider to confirm the supported intermediate path. Do not infer compatibility from a similar-looking release number.
HA health is already degraded
Do not begin an upgrade while the cluster is in an unexpected state. Restore normal HA health or obtain a Cisco-approved procedure for the degraded condition, then reschedule the change with an explicit recovery plan.
Legacy clients stop connecting after the upgrade
Identify the client and its negotiated TLS version or cipher from logs. Check the target release’s current compatibility guidance before changing cryptographic settings. If Cisco documents a TLS 1.2 legacy-cipher option for that integration, apply it only as directed and reassess the client for replacement or modernization.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen to involve Cisco TAC or a maintenance provider
Escalate before changing production when any of these conditions applies:
- The installed release is one Cisco says must migrate and the migration guide does not clearly cover your source.
- You cannot obtain or verify the entitled package and signature file.
- The deployment is HA and the current cluster state or node order is uncertain.
- A connected product’s compatibility or TLS requirement is unclear.
- The backup cannot be verified, or the documented rollback method is unavailable.
- The console reports a database, package-validation or migration error.
Cisco’s upgrade guidance advises verifying that configurations remain supported and seeking TAC or contracted maintenance-provider help when upgrade details are unclear. Give the support engineer the installed release, topology, target package name, backup status, console output and relevant logs; this is more useful than reporting only that the upgrade failed.
