The correct pairing method depends on which Ultimate 2C you own. For the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, 8BitDo’s documented Nintendo Switch 2 setup is a wired USB connection: update the controller, enable Pro Controller Wired Communication on the console, and connect the cable. The separate Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller uses a 2.4G receiver and a different pairing sequence; the reviewed support material does not confirm Nintendo Switch 2 compatibility for every Wireless package or receiver.
Check the label and mode switch before trying to pair. Using the Bluetooth procedure on a 2.4G receiver model, or assuming that a receiver works with Switch 2, can leave the controller apparently unresponsive.
Identify your Ultimate 2C variant before pairing
8BitDo uses the Ultimate 2C name for separate products. Their connection hardware, setup steps and documented Switch 2 support are not interchangeable.

Look for the product wording on the controller, box or manual. A Wireless/2.4G unit normally has a mode switch and a receiver. Do not assume that a controller described simply as “Ultimate 2C” follows the Bluetooth instructions.

Pair the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller by USB
This is the manufacturer-documented Switch 2 method for the Bluetooth model. It is a wired setup; the reviewed FAQ does not provide a Bluetooth-radio pairing sequence for this controller on Switch 2.
1. Check and update the controller firmware
Before connecting to the console, use 8BitDo’s support or software path to check the controller firmware. The support index records a firmware release that adds Nintendo Switch 2 support to the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller. If the controller has older firmware, install the applicable update first and follow the update utility’s prompts.
Keep the controller connected as directed by the update utility until it reports completion. Interrupting an update can leave the controller in an unusable state, so do not disconnect it simply because the progress indicator pauses.

- On Nintendo Switch 2, open System Settings.
- Choose Controllers and Sensors.
- Enable Pro Controller Wired Communication.
This setting is required for the documented wired connection. If it is disabled, the console may provide power over USB without accepting the controller as an input device.

3. Connect the controller
- Plug a USB cable into the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller.
- Connect the other end directly to the Nintendo Switch 2 console or its supported USB connection point.
- Allow the console a moment to recognize the controller.
The FAQ presents USB as the wired connection method. Use a cable that can carry data, not a charge-only cable. If the controller lights up but no inputs register, treat the cable or the console setting as a possible cause rather than repeatedly pressing the pairing button.
4. Verify inputs
Test the buttons and sticks in the console interface or inside a game. Check several directions on both sticks, the face buttons, shoulder buttons and the Home button. A successful power-up alone does not prove that the console has accepted controller input.
Pair the Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller with its 2.4G receiver
The Wireless model follows a receiver-based workflow documented in its manual. It is not the same as the Bluetooth model’s USB procedure.

Move the controller’s mode switch to the 2.4G position. If the switch is left in another position, the controller will not follow the receiver-pairing sequence.

2. Power on the controller
Press the Home button. The controller should power on and show its status indication.
3. Start receiver pairing
Press and hold the controller’s Pairing button for three seconds. Release it when the status LED begins blinking rapidly. A brief press is not the documented re-pair command.
4. Connect the adapter
Insert the matching 2.4G adapter into the intended host connection. The manual’s sequence calls for connecting the adapter after the controller enters rapid-blink pairing mode.

Successful receiver pairing is indicated when both the controller and adapter indicators become solid. Test buttons and sticks only after the indicators settle.

The reviewed manual explains how to re-pair the controller and receiver, but it does not establish that every Ultimate 2C Wireless package or receiver is compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Confirm the exact product and receiver version in the model-specific 8BitDo documentation before buying a replacement adapter or assuming that this sequence will produce Switch 2 input.
Should you use USB or the 2.4G dongle?
Choose based on the hardware you actually own and the support that is documented for that hardware.
- Use USB with the Bluetooth model. The documented Switch 2 setup requires current firmware, the console’s Pro Controller Wired Communication setting and a USB data connection.
- Use the 2.4G adapter with the Wireless model. That controller is designed around its receiver and has the separate three-second Pairing-button sequence.
- Do not substitute a receiver between variants. The support material treats the Bluetooth and Wireless products as distinct models, and the Wireless manual does not establish universal Switch 2 support.
- Do not buy an adapter before checking the model. A replacement must match the Wireless controller and its receiver requirements; an adapter intended for another Ultimate 2C variant is not a documented solution.
If you own the Bluetooth Controller and your goal is simply to play on Switch 2, the wired USB method is the supported path described by the FAQ. If you own the Wireless Controller, first verify that the exact package and receiver are identified as Switch 2-compatible in the current model-specific documentation.
Troubleshoot a Bluetooth Ultimate 2C that will not connect
The console supplies power but no buttons work
- Open System Settings > Controllers and Sensors.
- Confirm that Pro Controller Wired Communication is enabled.
- Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable firmly at both ends.
- Try another known data-capable USB cable if the first cable may be charge-only or damaged.
- Check the controller firmware through 8BitDo’s support/software path and install the Switch 2-supporting release if it is missing.
Power without input usually points to the wired-communication setting, the cable or outdated firmware. Check those items in that order before treating the controller as defective.

The controller is not recognized at all
- Reconfirm that the controller is the Ultimate 2C Bluetooth Controller, not the Wireless/2.4G variant.
- Verify that the console setting is enabled before reconnecting the cable.
- Reconnect the cable after the firmware update has completed.
- Use the model-specific 8BitDo instructions if the controller still does not appear after the setting and firmware checks.
Firmware updating is unavailable or fails
Return to the 8BitDo support/software path and select the exact controller model. The Ultimate 2C name covers more than one product, so a utility or firmware package for a different variant may not apply. Keep the controller connected during the update and retry the USB setup only after the utility confirms completion.
Troubleshoot the Wireless/2.4G model
The LED never enters rapid blinking
Check the mode switch first. It must be in the 2.4G position. Then press Home to power on and hold the Pairing button for the full three seconds. The documented trigger is a sustained hold, not a quick tap.
The controller blinks but the adapter does not connect
- Remove and reseat the 2.4G adapter.
- Repeat the three-second Pairing-button sequence.
- Connect the adapter only after the controller’s status LED is blinking rapidly.
- Wait for both indicators to become solid before testing.
If the indicators never become solid, verify that the adapter is the one supplied for that controller. Do not assume that a visually similar adapter is interchangeable.
The receiver pairs but Switch 2 still does not accept input
The receiver manual’s re-pair procedure does not by itself prove Switch 2 compatibility. Check the exact Wireless model and receiver version in the current 8BitDo documentation. If the package is not clearly identified, consult the model-specific manual before purchasing another adapter or continuing to troubleshoot the console.
