To connect the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller wirelessly to a Windows PC, set its rear switch to 2.4G, plug the included 2.4G USB receiver into the computer, and press Home on the controller. A solid status LED indicates that the connection succeeded. The controller’s manual lists Windows 10 (version 1903) or later as the requirement.

You can also use the controller over USB. Connect it with a USB cable, wait for Windows to recognize it, and check that the status LED remains solid. The Windows instructions in the manual use the 2.4G receiver; its Bluetooth instructions are for Android, so this guide does not treat Bluetooth as a documented Windows pairing method.

What you need before pairing

Prepare the controller, its supplied 2.4G USB receiver, and a USB cable if you want a wired fallback. The official manual specifies Windows 10 (1903) or later. You can verify the requirement in the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller manual.

  • A Windows PC running Windows 10 version 1903 or newer.
  • The Ultimate 2C controller with enough charge to power on.
  • The included 2.4G receiver for wireless use.
  • A USB cable for the wired method or as a fallback while diagnosing a wireless problem.
  • An available USB port for the receiver or cable.

The receiver is part of the documented Windows wireless setup. Do not assume that a generic wireless dongle will provide the same pairing behavior as the supplied receiver.

Choose the right Windows connection method

Method Controller setting Computer connection Success indication Best use
2.4G wireless Rear switch set to 2.4G Included 2.4G USB receiver Controller status LED stays solid Playing without a cable
USB wired Connect by cable USB cable directly to the Windows PC Windows recognizes the controller and the status LED stays solid Using the controller without the receiver or checking whether the controller works over USB

The supplied material does not establish a latency or performance advantage for either method. The practical difference documented by the manual is whether you use the receiver wirelessly or connect the controller directly by USB.

Pair the Ultimate 2C wirelessly over 2.4G

Follow these steps in order. The order matters because the controller must be in 2.4G mode and the receiver must be connected to Windows for the wireless link to be established.

1. Confirm the Windows requirement

Check that the PC runs Windows 10 version 1903 or later. This is the operating-system requirement stated by the controller’s manual, not a claim that every earlier Windows release is incompatible in every circumstance.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

2. Set the rear switch to 2.4G

Turn the controller over and move its mode switch to 2.4G. The Windows wireless procedure in the manual is receiver-based. Leaving the switch in another mode prevents you from following the documented 2.4G sequence.

3. Connect the included receiver

Insert the supplied 2.4G adapter into a USB port on the Windows PC. Use the receiver that came with the controller whenever possible, because the manual’s pairing instructions refer to that adapter.

4. Turn on the controller

Press the controller’s Home button. This powers it on and starts the connection attempt with the receiver attached to the PC.

5. Check the status LED

Wait for the controller’s status LED to remain solid. A solid LED is the manual’s indication that the wireless connection is successful. Once it reaches that state, open the game or Windows application in which you intend to use the controller and test the controls.

Wireless pairing checklist

  • Windows 10 version 1903 or later is installed.
  • The rear switch is set to 2.4G.
  • The included receiver is plugged into the PC.
  • You pressed Home after connecting the receiver.
  • The controller status LED is solid rather than blinking.

Use the controller with a USB cable

Wired operation is the other Windows connection documented in the manual. It does not require the 2.4G receiver.

8Bitdo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller for Windows PC & Android (Dark Blue)
  • Compatible with Windows 10 and above, Android 9.0 and above. Mode switch button. 2.4G and wired for Windows, Bluetooth for Android. Ensure you update to the latest firmware.
  • Extra R4/L4 bumpers. Designed for personalized configuration to help you react faster in games. No software needed. Turbo function.
  • 1000Hz* polling rate under both 2.4G and wired connections ensures precise, low-latency responsiveness.
  • Hall Effect Joysticks and Hall Triggers. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Offering higher precision and sensitivity.
  • Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light but tactile.
  1. Connect the Ultimate 2C to the Windows PC with a USB cable.
  2. Wait for Windows to recognize the controller.
  3. Look at the status LED. It should remain solid when the wired connection is successful.
  4. Use the controller in your game or application after Windows has recognized it.

If you are troubleshooting wireless pairing, the wired method gives you a direct connection path while you check the receiver, switch position, and pairing state. It does not, by itself, repair a lost 2.4G pairing; use the re-pairing procedure below for that.

Re-pair the controller and receiver after a lost connection

If the receiver connection has been lost, the manual provides a specific re-pairing sequence. Perform it in this order rather than simply pressing Home repeatedly.

  1. Set the controller’s rear switch to PC/2.4G.
  2. Press Home to turn on the controller.
  3. Hold the controller’s Pair button for three seconds.
  4. Keep watching the controller LED. It should begin blinking rapidly, which indicates that the controller has entered the pairing process.
  5. Connect the 2.4G adapter to the Windows PC after the rapid blinking begins.
  6. Wait for both the controller LED and the receiver LED to become solid.

Both solid LEDs are the manual’s confirmation that the controller and adapter have paired again. If either LED continues blinking, repeat the sequence from the beginning and make sure the switch is in PC/2.4G before you press Home.

Troubleshoot a connection that does not complete

Use the LED state and the documented sequence to identify where the process stopped. Avoid changing several variables at once; check the mode, receiver, power, and pairing state separately.

The controller does not connect wirelessly

  • Recheck the rear switch. It must be set to 2.4G for the standard wireless Windows procedure.
  • Confirm that the supplied 2.4G receiver is actually inserted into the PC’s USB port.
  • Press Home after the receiver is connected.
  • Wait for a solid status LED. A blinking or otherwise non-solid LED does not match the manual’s success indication.
  • If the connection was previously working and then disappeared, use the three-second Pair-button re-pairing procedure instead of repeating only the normal power-on steps.

The receiver and controller will not re-pair

Start over and follow the order precisely: PC/2.4G switch, Home, Pair held for three seconds until rapid blinking, then connect the receiver. The expected result is a solid LED on both the controller and receiver. Connecting the receiver before the controller enters the rapid-blink pairing state does not follow the manual’s recovery sequence.

Windows does not recognize the wired controller

Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable, then wait for Windows to finish recognizing the device before checking the LED. Make sure the cable is connected directly to the PC and that the controller is powered as expected. If the LED does not remain solid, the wired connection has not reached the manual’s stated success condition.

The status LED never becomes solid

A solid LED is the documented success signal for both the wireless and wired procedures. Recheck the connection method you selected, verify the mode switch for 2.4G use, and repeat the relevant steps. For a wireless connection that was previously paired, use the receiver re-pairing sequence and wait for both LEDs to turn solid.

Do not substitute Android Bluetooth instructions for Windows pairing

The Ultimate 2C manual includes Bluetooth pairing instructions for Android, but its Windows instructions describe 2.4G receiver operation and USB wired operation. Therefore, this guide does not instruct you to add the controller through Windows Bluetooth settings. If you are trying to connect on Windows, use the included receiver with the switch set to 2.4G, or connect the controller by USB.

Check firmware before extended troubleshooting

Firmware can change over time. When this information was checked, 8BitDo’s support page listed Ultimate 2C Wireless firmware version v1.09, with release notes mentioning enhanced 2.4G connection stability. The same page directs users to Ultimate Software V2 for firmware updates. Because the listed version may change, check the current entry on the official 8BitDo support page rather than treating v1.09 as permanently current.

Use the support page to identify the current firmware listing and update path for the Ultimate 2C. Firmware updating is separate from the basic Windows pairing sequence: first establish whether the controller can connect by USB or 2.4G, then use the official software and instructions associated with the current support listing.

A practical setup sequence for first-time users

If you have just taken the controller out of the box, this order minimizes confusion:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm the PC meets Windows 10 version 1903 or later.
  2. Locate the included 2.4G receiver before turning on the controller.
  3. Set the rear switch to 2.4G.
  4. Plug the receiver into the PC.
  5. Press Home.
  6. Wait for the controller LED to become solid.
  7. Only if the connection fails or was lost previously, hold Pair for three seconds until rapid blinking and then reconnect the receiver as described in the recovery procedure.
  8. If wireless setup remains impractical, connect the controller with USB and wait for Windows recognition.

This sequence keeps normal pairing separate from re-pairing. The normal process starts with the receiver already connected; the recovery process starts pairing mode on the controller before the receiver is connected.

What the LED states tell you

Observed state Meaning established by the manual Next action
Solid controller LED after normal 2.4G setup Wireless connection succeeded Use the controller in Windows
Rapidly blinking controller LED after holding Pair for three seconds The controller is in the re-pairing process Connect the 2.4G receiver
Solid controller and receiver LEDs after recovery Controller and receiver paired successfully Use the wireless connection
Solid LED after USB connection Wired connection succeeded Use the controller over USB

The manual does not provide independent latency measurements, game-by-game compatibility results, or a ranking of wireless versus wired performance. The LED indications above are connection-state signals, not performance benchmarks.

Summary of the correct Windows method

For the documented wireless setup, use 2.4G mode and the included receiver: set the switch, plug in the adapter, press Home, and wait for a solid status LED. For a direct connection, use USB and wait for Windows recognition with a solid LED. If a previously paired receiver stops connecting, enter re-pairing mode with a three-second hold of Pair, then connect the receiver and wait for both LEDs to become solid. Keep the manual’s Windows requirement—Windows 10 (1903) or later—and its Android-only Bluetooth instructions in mind when choosing the method.
