To pair the Sony WH-1000XM6, put the headset in Bluetooth pairing mode, open your device’s Bluetooth settings, and select WH-1000XM6. A first-time pairing starts automatically when the headphones have no saved pairing information; for another device, hold the headset’s Bluetooth button for about five seconds until the blue indicator flashes and voice guidance says “Pairing.” Keep the device within 1 m (3.2 ft), and use Sony | Sound Connect when you need two active Bluetooth connections at once.
What you need before pairing
Pairing is the process of registering the WH-1000XM6 with a phone or computer so the devices can connect over Bluetooth. Sony’s help guide describes pairing as registering the device you want to connect to. Complete these checks before opening Bluetooth settings:
- Charge the headset sufficiently. A very low charge can interrupt discovery or connection.
- Stay close. Keep the phone or laptop within 1 m (3.2 ft) of the headphones during setup.
- Control nearby devices. If the headset automatically reconnects to a phone, tablet, or computer it used recently, temporarily turn Bluetooth off on that device or move it away.
- Use the normal device name. When both
WH-1000XM6andLE_WH-1000XM6appear, chooseWH-1000XM6for the standard Bluetooth connection unless your device’s instructions specifically require LE Audio.
Put the WH-1000XM6 into pairing mode
First device or a headset with no saved pairings
Turn on the headphones. If they contain no pairing information, they enter pairing mode automatically. The blue indicator flashes while the headset is discoverable, and the voice guidance announces “Pairing.” You can then select the model from the phone or computer’s Bluetooth list.

With the headset turned on, press and hold the Bluetooth button for about five seconds. Release it when the blue indicator flashes and the voice guidance says “Pairing.” This deliberately starts discovery even when another device is already saved or connected.

Pairing mode ends after five minutes. If the model disappears from the device list, start pairing mode again rather than repeatedly refreshing the Bluetooth screen.
Pair the WH-1000XM6 with an iPhone
- Charge the headphones and place them within 1 m (3.2 ft) of the iPhone.
- Turn on the WH-1000XM6. If it has no saved pairing information, wait for automatic pairing mode. Otherwise, hold the Bluetooth button for about five seconds until “Pairing” is announced.
- Unlock the iPhone and open Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on if it is off. Sony’s instruction is: “On your iPhone screen, go to [Settings] and touch [Bluetooth].”
- Under the available devices, tap WH-1000XM6. Do not choose
LE_WH-1000XM6for the ordinary Bluetooth connection when the standard model name is available. - If iOS asks for a passkey, enter
0000. - Wait for the connection confirmation. A notification sound from the headset indicates that pairing completed.
If WH-1000XM6 does not appear, leave the Bluetooth screen open, restart pairing mode by holding the headset button for about five seconds, and search again before the five-minute pairing window expires.
Pair the WH-1000XM6 with an Android phone
- Charge the headphones and keep the Android phone within 1 m (3.2 ft).
- Turn on the headset. For a new device after another phone or computer has been saved, hold the Bluetooth button for about five seconds and wait for the flashing blue indicator and “Pairing” voice prompt.
- Unlock the phone and open Settings.
- Go to Device connection > Bluetooth. Sony’s instruction is: “On your Android smartphone screen, select [Settings] – [Device connection] – [Bluetooth].” Android manufacturers may rename or relocate these entries, but the relevant screen is the phone’s Bluetooth device list.
- Turn Bluetooth on, then tap WH-1000XM6 under available devices.
- Enter
0000if Android requests a passkey. - Listen for the notification sound confirming that the connection is complete.
Android may show a pairing request, a contacts or call-access option, or a media-audio toggle after registration. Accept only the permissions you need; the initial Bluetooth pairing itself is completed by selecting the headset and confirming the prompt.

Pair the WH-1000XM6 with a laptop
The same Bluetooth procedure works with Windows, macOS, and other Bluetooth computers. Menu names differ by operating-system version, so look for the computer’s Bluetooth settings rather than a Sony-specific utility.
Windows
- Charge the headphones and keep them within 1 m (3.2 ft) of the laptop.
- Turn on the headset. If it reconnects to a nearby last-used device, turn Bluetooth off on that device or move it away.
- Hold the WH-1000XM6 Bluetooth button for about five seconds if pairing mode does not start automatically.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices, turn Bluetooth on, and choose the option to add a Bluetooth device.
- Select the Bluetooth device category, then choose WH-1000XM6 when it appears.
- Complete the Windows connection prompt. If Windows asks for a code, enter
0000.
macOS
- Keep the charged headset within 1 m (3.2 ft) of the Mac.
- Start pairing mode by holding the Bluetooth button for about five seconds when automatic pairing does not occur.
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on, locate WH-1000XM6 in the nearby-device list, and click Connect.
- Approve any macOS confirmation. Enter
0000only if a passkey prompt appears.
Other Bluetooth laptops
Open the operating system’s Bluetooth panel, enable Bluetooth, and select WH-1000XM6. Sony’s generic instruction is: “Select [WH-1000XM6] displayed on the screen of the Bluetooth device for pairing.” If a laptop has no Bluetooth hardware, or its built-in adapter is not functioning, a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter is the practical workaround. The official guide does not specify a particular adapter model.
Choose the correct entry when two names appear
Some phones and computers can display both WH-1000XM6 and LE_WH-1000XM6. For normal music, calls, and the standard Bluetooth setup described above, select WH-1000XM6. Select LE_WH-1000XM6 only when the device workflow specifically calls for Bluetooth LE Audio and supports that mode. Choosing the wrong entry can produce a connection that does not behave like the regular headset connection or may not complete on a device that lacks the required LE Audio support.

Connect a phone and laptop at the same time with multipoint
The WH-1000XM6 can remember multiple paired devices, but ordinary pairing does not mean that every device remains active simultaneously. Sony states that the headset can be paired with multiple devices but can play music from only one paired device at a time. To keep two Bluetooth connections active, enable the headset’s multipoint option in Sony | Sound Connect.

Set up two simultaneous connections
- Pair the WH-1000XM6 with the first phone or computer using the relevant procedure above.
- Install and open Sony | Sound Connect on one of the connected devices.
- In the app, turn on Connect to 2 devices simultaneously.
- Use the second phone or laptop to open its Bluetooth settings and select WH-1000XM6. If it is already listed as saved, select it to establish the second connection.
- Confirm that both devices show the headset as connected before switching between them.
When Connect to 2 devices simultaneously is enabled, Sony documents two simultaneous Bluetooth connections. The headphones still output audio from one device at a time. Start playback on the device you want to hear; playback beginning on the other connected device switches the audible source to that device.
Use a third device
Two active connections are the limit for this multipoint arrangement. You can pair a third phone or computer and use it to replace one of the active connections, but it does not create a three-device audio session. If the third device will not connect, stop using one active connection first or disconnect that device from its Bluetooth settings.

Why audio may seem stuck on the wrong device
A multipoint connection can be healthy even when no sound comes from the device you are holding. Check which device is currently playing, pause audio on the unwanted source, and start playback on the intended source. The device that starts playback becomes the audible source; merely having both devices listed as connected does not mix their audio.
Understand automatic reconnection versus a fresh pairing
After a successful pairing, the WH-1000XM6 may reconnect automatically to a nearby device it has already registered. That is convenient for a regular phone, but it can prevent a new laptop from finding the headset in pairing mode. Temporarily disable Bluetooth on the last-used device, move it out of range, or disconnect the headset from that device before beginning a new pairing.

Troubleshoot a failed pairing

When to forget and pair again
Use a clean re-pair when the headset is visible but repeatedly fails, when a device shows an obsolete connection state, or when selecting the saved entry does nothing. On the phone or laptop, remove the existing WH-1000XM6 record first. Then turn Bluetooth off and back on, put the headset into pairing mode with the five-second button hold, and select the model as a new device. If another nearby device keeps taking the connection, disable Bluetooth there while completing this process.
For a normal first connection, forgetting the record is unnecessary. It is a recovery step for a stale record, not a required part of every pairing attempt.

- The recommended setup distance is 1 m (3.2 ft) or less.
- The Bluetooth button must be held for about five seconds to force pairing for a second or later device.
- Pairing mode remains available for five minutes before it cancels.
- Connect to 2 devices simultaneously provides two active Bluetooth connections, not simultaneous mixed audio.
- When both model names are listed, WH-1000XM6 is the standard choice;
LE_WH-1000XM6is for a workflow that specifically calls for LE Audio.
