To pair Shokz OpenRun, turn the headphones off, then press and hold Volume+ for 5–7 seconds. Keep holding after the headphones power on until the LED flashes red and blue and Audrey says “pairing.” Open Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or Android phone and select OpenRun by Shokz. Audrey says “connected” when pairing is complete.
OpenRun works with both iPhone and Android phones and uses Bluetooth 5.1. The procedure below also covers phones that cannot find the headset, an OpenRun that reconnects to another phone, two-phone multipoint pairing and a full reset.
What you need before pairing
OpenRun can pair with phones, tablets, computers and watches that use Bluetooth 3.1 or later. Shokz lists iPhone and Android compatibility, so the phone brand does not change the basic headset procedure. The Android menu labels can differ by manufacturer, but the headset appears as OpenRun by Shokz.
- Keep OpenRun and the phone close together while pairing. The red-and-blue LED indicates that the headset is discoverable.
- Start with the headphones powered off. If they are already on, hold the power button until they shut down before entering pairing mode.
- Make sure the headset has enough charge to start. If it behaves unpredictably, charge it for a few minutes before trying again.
- Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on phones that have used OpenRun before if you do not want the headset to reconnect to them.
Pairing mode is different from merely turning the headset on. A normal startup does not make OpenRun visible to a new phone; you must continue holding Volume+ until the spoken “pairing” prompt and red-and-blue flash occur.

Pair OpenRun with any phone
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Press and hold Volume+. The headphones power on and announce the startup message.
- Continue holding Volume+ for about 5–7 seconds. Audrey says “pairing”, and the status LED flashes red and blue. Shokz’s command guidance says to continue holding the button for an additional 2–3 seconds after the “Welcome to Shokz” prompt.
- Leave the headphones close to the phone while the LED continues flashing.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and wait for available devices to refresh.
- Tap OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for Audrey to say “connected”. The phone should then list OpenRun as connected or paired.
If the name does not appear, do not release Volume+ early and assume the headset is ready. Turn OpenRun off and repeat the sequence, holding until both the voice prompt and the red-and-blue light confirm pairing mode.
iPhone instructions
Open the Bluetooth menu
- Open Settings on the iPhone.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on if the switch is off.
- With OpenRun showing the red-and-blue pairing light, look under the available devices list.
- Tap OpenRun by Shokz.
The iPhone may take a few seconds to move the headset from available devices to connected devices. Keep the phone and headphones near each other during that interval. A successful connection is confirmed by Audrey’s “connected” announcement and by the headset appearing as connected in Settings > Bluetooth.
If the iPhone shows an old OpenRun entry
An old entry can represent a previous pairing rather than a current connection. Tap the information button beside the entry, choose the option to forget the device, confirm, then place OpenRun back into pairing mode and select its name again. Forgetting the entry is especially useful after a reset or when the iPhone repeatedly attempts to connect to a stale record.

Android instructions
Find Bluetooth settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Bluetooth. On some Android phones the path is Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
- Turn Bluetooth on and open the available-devices view if it is not already displayed.
- Put OpenRun into pairing mode, then select OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for Audrey to say “connected” and confirm that the headset is listed as connected on the phone.
Android manufacturers use different names for the scan and device-list screens. Look for a control such as Pair new device, Scan or Available devices; the headset name itself remains OpenRun by Shokz. If Android asks you to confirm pairing, accept the request. No separate passcode is specified in Shokz’s OpenRun pairing instructions.
When Android keeps showing “Saved” or “Paired” but not “Connected”
Tap the OpenRun entry to request a connection. If that fails, use the device’s settings control to forget or unpair it, turn Bluetooth off and on, then repeat the complete pairing sequence. A saved entry does not prove that the current OpenRun session is active, particularly if another phone is nearby and has previously connected.
OpenRun does not appear in Bluetooth
The most common cause is that OpenRun is on but not in discoverable pairing mode. Use this order rather than repeatedly tapping the phone’s scan button.

If the voice prompt does not say “pairing,” continue holding Volume+. Shokz’s commands guidance says the pairing prompt follows the “Welcome to Shokz” prompt after several more seconds; releasing the button at startup leaves the headset out of pairing mode.

- Clear old OpenRun pairings from phones that have used the headset. On each phone, use its Bluetooth device controls to forget or remove OpenRun.
- Turn Bluetooth off temporarily on nearby phones, tablets or computers that might automatically reconnect.
- Restart the phone you want to use.
- Turn OpenRun off and restart it.
- Charge the headphones for a few minutes, especially if the LED or voice prompts are inconsistent.
- Try pairing again using the Volume+ procedure.
- If the headset remains undiscoverable, perform the full reset described below, then pair it as a new device.
This sequence addresses both sides of the connection: the phone’s stored Bluetooth records and OpenRun’s own connected-device memory. Resetting before removing a nearby phone can still allow that phone to capture the headset again, so clear or disable competing devices first.
When OpenRun reconnects to another phone
A previously used phone may connect as soon as OpenRun powers on. That can make the headset appear missing from the phone you are trying to pair. On the old phone, either turn Bluetooth off temporarily or open its Bluetooth device list and forget/remove OpenRun. Then turn OpenRun off, enter pairing mode with Volume+, and select it on the target phone.

If several old phones are involved, repeat the removal step on each one or move them out of range while pairing. Once the target phone announces “connected,” you can turn Bluetooth back on elsewhere; if the headset later switches unexpectedly, review the other phones’ saved OpenRun entries and disconnect or forget the ones you no longer want to use.
Pair OpenRun with two phones using multipoint
OpenRun supports multipoint pairing with two devices. Multipoint lets the headset remain associated with both phones and switch between them, but it does not mix audio from both phones at the same time. Shokz also notes that multipoint may not work with every device or transmitter.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEnable multipoint and pair the first phone
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Enter pairing mode by holding Volume+ until Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- While the headset is in pairing mode, press and hold the multifunction button and Volume+ together for about 3 seconds.
- Wait for Audrey to say “multipoint enabled.”
- On the first phone, open Bluetooth settings and select OpenRun by Shokz.
- Wait for the connected announcement.
Pair the second phone
- Power OpenRun off after the first phone has paired.
- Enter pairing mode again by holding Volume+ until the red-and-blue flash and “pairing” prompt appear.
- On the second phone, open Bluetooth settings and select OpenRun by Shokz.
- After the second phone connects, power OpenRun off and turn it on normally.
With both phones paired, OpenRun can switch between them according to the active connection and device behavior. Audio still comes from only one phone at a time. If multipoint prevents a reliable connection, disable Bluetooth on one phone, reset OpenRun if necessary, and establish a single-phone pairing before trying the multipoint sequence again.

Reset OpenRun completely
A full reset erases the headset’s connected-device information. Use it when ordinary forget-and-repair steps do not clear a bad connection, when OpenRun repeatedly reconnects to an unwanted device, or after persistent disconnections.
- Turn OpenRun off.
- Enter pairing mode by holding Volume+ until Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue.
- Press and hold the multifunction button, Volume+ and Volume− together for 3–5 seconds.
- Release when you hear beeps or feel vibrations indicating that the reset has completed.
- Turn the headphones off.
- On the phone you want to use, remove any old OpenRun entry if it remains.
- Start the normal pairing process and select OpenRun by Shokz as a new device.
The reset clears OpenRun’s remembered connections; it does not automatically pair the headset again. You must complete the Bluetooth selection step on the phone afterward.
Fixes for common symptoms
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No “pairing” announcement | Volume+ was released during startup, before pairing mode began. | Turn OpenRun off and hold Volume+ longer. Continue 2–3 seconds after the “Welcome to Shokz” prompt until Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue. |
| OpenRun is absent from the phone’s list | The headset is not discoverable, is too far away, or another device has captured the connection. | Keep it close, repeat pairing mode, turn off Bluetooth on old phones, restart both devices and try again. |
| It reconnects to the wrong phone | A previous phone still has OpenRun saved and Bluetooth enabled. | Turn Bluetooth off on that phone or forget/remove OpenRun there, then pair with the intended phone. |
| Frequent disconnections | Stale pairing data, a restart-needed phone or headset, or low charge. | Restart both devices, charge OpenRun for a few minutes, reset it if needed, remove the old phone entry and pair again. |
| Only one side produces sound | The phone’s left/right accessibility balance may be shifted, or the connection state may be corrupted. | Check the phone’s audio accessibility balance and center it. If the problem remains, reset OpenRun and pair it again. |
| Two phones will not stay connected | Multipoint was not enabled in the correct mode, or one device/transmitter does not support the feature reliably. | Repeat the documented multipoint sequence, pairing one phone at a time. If it remains unstable, use a single-phone connection. |
How to tell which pairing state OpenRun is in
- Powered off: the headset is not advertising itself and cannot be selected by a new phone.
- Startup only: the headset has powered on, but releasing Volume+ before the pairing prompt leaves it unavailable to new devices.
- Pairing mode: Audrey says “pairing” and the LED flashes red and blue. This is the state required for a phone’s Bluetooth scan to find OpenRun.
- Connected: Audrey says “connected,” and the phone lists OpenRun as the active Bluetooth device.
Using the light and voice prompts together is more reliable than judging by the phone screen alone. A phone may retain an old saved entry even when OpenRun is not currently connected, while the red-and-blue flash confirms that the headset is actively waiting for a new pairing.

Best order for a clean re-pair
When troubleshooting, avoid changing several settings at once. First remove or disable competing phones, then restart the target phone, charge OpenRun briefly, enter pairing mode deliberately and select the exact device name. If that fails, reset OpenRun and repeat the same sequence. This order prevents an old connection from immediately reclaiming the headset and gives the phone a fresh device record.
For a single phone, the essential action is always the same: OpenRun off, hold Volume+ until “pairing” and the red-and-blue LED appear, then choose OpenRun by Shokz in Bluetooth settings. For two phones, enable multipoint before pairing each phone separately, and remember that multipoint switches between devices rather than playing both simultaneously.
