To pair Nothing Ear (open), turn on Bluetooth, place both earbuds in their open charging case, and use either your phone’s Bluetooth menu or Google Fast Pair on a supported Android phone. For manual pairing, hold the case’s function button for about three seconds until the indicator blinks white, then select Ear (open) in the available-device list. An iPhone uses the manual Bluetooth route; Fast Pair is an optional Android feature. The Nothing X app adds controls and maintenance features but is not listed as required for basic audio pairing.
Before you start
Keep both Ear (open) earbuds inside the charging case and open the lid. This is the starting condition in Nothing’s documented pairing flow. Turn on Bluetooth on the phone you want to use and keep the phone close to the case while pairing.
- Charge the case and earbuds enough to remain powered during setup.
- Put both earbuds in the case rather than trying to pair one loose earbud.
- Leave the lid open while using Fast Pair or while placing the earbuds into manual pairing mode.
- If the earbuds were previously used with another phone, have that phone’s Bluetooth turned off temporarily or move it out of range so it does not reconnect first.
Nothing’s official product page says opening the case triggers a new pairing or reconnection. That means a previously paired phone may connect automatically when the case is opened, while a new phone normally needs the pairing process below. Product specifications and compatibility information are listed on the Ear (open) product page.

Choose the setup route
| Route | Phone platform | What you do | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fast Pair | Supported Android phones | Open the case and accept the on-screen prompt | Fastest option when the phone meets Google Play services and Android requirements |
| Manual Bluetooth pairing | iPhone or Android | Hold the case function button for about three seconds, then choose Ear (open) in Bluetooth settings | Required on iPhone and available as the fallback on Android |
| Nothing X after pairing | iPhone or Android | Install or open the app after the Bluetooth connection is established | Use it for extra controls, updates and device-management features |
Fast Pair is not available on every Android phone. Nothing describes it as working on supported Android devices with Google Play services 11.7 or above and compatibility back to Android Marshmallow (Android 6.0). If no prompt appears, use manual Bluetooth pairing instead.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Pair Ear (open) with an iPhone
iPhone pairing uses the standard Bluetooth menu. Nothing’s support instructions for its Ear range describe the manual process; the Ear (open) product page separately identifies Google Fast Pair as an Android feature, so use the manual route on iOS.
- Open Settings: On the iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and switch Bluetooth on. Keep the Bluetooth page visible so you can see the device appear.
- Prepare the earbuds: Put both Ear (open) earbuds into the charging case and open the lid.
- Enter pairing mode: Press and hold the function button on the charging case for about three seconds. Nothing says the indicator blinks white when the earbuds enter pairing mode.
- Select the earbuds: Under Other Devices, tap Ear (open) when it appears. The exact capitalization or label can vary with the phone’s software, but choose the Ear (open) entry rather than an unrelated nearby device.
- Confirm the connection: Wait for the entry to move into the connected-device area. You can then close Settings and play audio to verify that the output is routed to the earbuds.
If Ear (open) does not appear, leave the case open, repeat the three-second press until the indicator blinks white, and scan the Bluetooth list again. The available-device list can refresh while you are viewing it, so wait briefly before repeating the button press.
Pair Ear (open) with an Android phone using Fast Pair
Fast Pair is an optional Android shortcut. It can display a setup card instead of requiring you to open the Bluetooth list, but only supported phones with the required Google Play services can use it.

- Turn on Bluetooth: Open the phone’s Bluetooth control from Quick Settings or go to Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device. Android menu names differ by manufacturer and software version.
- Open the case: Put both earbuds in the case and open the lid near the unlocked phone.
- Watch for the prompt: If the phone supports Google Fast Pair and has Google Play services 11.7 or above, an on-screen Ear (open) prompt may appear.
- Accept the prompt: Follow the card’s instructions to approve the connection. If Android asks you to enable a related permission or notification for Fast Pair, follow the phone’s displayed instructions.
- Test audio: Play a short sound or music track and confirm the output is assigned to Ear (open).
Fast Pair is convenient, but its absence is not a sign that the earbuds are incompatible. Nothing lists Android 5.0 and above as the general Android compatibility floor for Ear (open), while Fast Pair has the separate Android 6.0 and Google Play services requirements described above.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Pair Ear (open) manually on Android
Manual Bluetooth pairing works when Fast Pair is unavailable, disabled or simply does not show a prompt.
- Open Settings and enter the phone’s Bluetooth page. Depending on the Android version, this may be under Connected devices, Connections or a similarly named section.
- Turn Bluetooth on and choose the command to pair a new device if the phone does not scan automatically.
- Place both earbuds in the open case.
- Press and hold the case function button for about three seconds. The official support instruction says the indicator blinks white in pairing mode.
- Look under available or nearby devices and tap Ear (open).
- Accept any pairing confirmation shown by Android, then wait for the status to change to connected.
After the first connection, opening the case can trigger reconnection to a phone that already knows the earbuds. If you are deliberately pairing a different phone, keep the previously connected phone’s Bluetooth off or out of range until the new pairing is complete.
Is the Nothing X app required?
No. The basic Bluetooth pairing steps do not list Nothing X as a prerequisite. You can pair Ear (open) from the iPhone or Android Bluetooth settings and use it for audio without installing the companion app.
Nothing describes Nothing X as providing additional operations for non-Nothing phones, including:

If you install the app, Nothing says to update it before use so that its available features are current. App menus and permissions can change with the phone’s operating-system version, so follow the labels shown on your own device. Installing Nothing X after Bluetooth pairing does not replace the initial pairing step; the phone must still establish the Bluetooth connection.
Compatibility requirements
| Capability | Requirement stated by Nothing | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| General iPhone compatibility | iOS 13 or later | An iPhone running an older iOS release is below the listed compatibility floor. |
| General Android compatibility | Android 5.0 or later | Ear (open) is listed for Android phones at or above this version. |
| Google Fast Pair | Supported Android device, Google Play services 11.7 or later, compatibility back to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) | Fast Pair has stricter conditions than ordinary Bluetooth pairing; use the manual method if the prompt does not appear. |
| Bluetooth specification | Bluetooth 5.3 | This is the product’s listed Bluetooth specification, not a guarantee that every phone exposes the same settings or menus. |
These are product-page compatibility specifications, not a promise that every phone model or regional software build behaves identically. Phone manufacturers can rename Bluetooth menus, and Android interfaces vary by version. The underlying manual process remains the same: put the earbuds in the open case, enter pairing mode with the case button, then select Ear (open).
What to do when Ear (open) does not appear
Nothing’s published support flow does not provide a detailed Ear (open)-specific failure tree. It does give a clear first recovery action: re-enter pairing mode and scan again.
- Confirm that both earbuds are inside the charging case and that the lid is open.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Press and hold the case function button for about three seconds.
- Wait for the indicator to blink white, which Nothing identifies as the pairing-mode signal.
- Refresh or reopen the phone’s available-device list and look for Ear (open).
If a different phone connects first, turn Bluetooth off on that phone temporarily and repeat the scan on the phone you are setting up. If the device still does not appear, verify that the phone meets the general iOS or Android compatibility floor. On Android, do not assume Fast Pair is supported simply because ordinary Bluetooth is; use the manual route.

- [Wide compatibility] The ultra-thin 0.02-inch design does not block the charging port at all, and both wired and wireless charging can be used directly without removing the pad. Compatible with most smartphones such as iPhone, compatible with various wristbands, lanyards, crossbody straps, and keychains
- [Durable and Portable Material] Premium rust-resistant stainless steel material with good flexibility, which not only avoids scratching the phone case, but also has excellent anti rust and anti fading performance
- [Multi scenario Practical] Paired with a lanyard or wristband, hands-free use can be achieved. The phone is within reach and not easily dropped, ideal for daily commuting and outdoor activities. Suitable for full coverage phone cases, does not support half coverage phone cases
- [Quality Service] If you find any damage or other issues with the product upon receipt, please contact us immediately. We will handle it quickly
Avoid inventing a reset procedure from an unrelated Nothing model. The cited support instructions specify the approximately three-second pairing-mode press and the white blinking indicator, but they do not establish a different Ear (open)-specific reset duration or LED pattern.
How to tell whether pairing succeeded
- The phone’s Bluetooth page lists Ear (open) as connected rather than merely available.
- The earbuds are selectable as the audio output when you start playback.
- Opening the case later causes the known phone to reconnect, provided Bluetooth is enabled and another phone has not taken the connection.
- If you use Nothing X, the app can expose its additional settings only after the phone has established the Bluetooth connection.
Pairing and app setup are separate events. A phone can show Ear (open) as a connected Bluetooth accessory even when Nothing X is not installed.

| Question | Fast Pair | Manual Bluetooth |
|---|---|---|
| Works on iPhone? | No; the documented Fast Pair route is for supported Android devices. | Yes. |
| Works on Android? | Yes, when the phone and Google Play services meet the stated requirements. | Yes, including when Fast Pair is unavailable. |
| Where do you finish setup? | In the on-screen Fast Pair card. | In the phone’s Bluetooth settings. |
| What starts pairing? | Open the case near the supported Android phone. | Hold the case function button for about three seconds until the indicator blinks white. |
| Best reason to choose it | It is the quickest route when the prompt appears. | It is universal across the two platforms covered here and is the fallback when no prompt appears. |
There is no need to force Fast Pair. If its card does not appear, manual Bluetooth pairing is the documented alternative and does not require Nothing X.

Why did my Android phone not show the Fast Pair pop-up?
Fast Pair is limited to supported Android devices with Google Play services 11.7 or above and compatibility back to Android 6.0. The pop-up can also be absent when the phone is not scanning. Pair manually from Bluetooth settings instead.
Do both earbuds need to be in the case?
Yes. The documented starting condition is both earbuds inside the charging case with the lid open.
What does the white blinking indicator mean?
Nothing’s support instruction identifies the white blinking indicator as the signal that the earbuds have entered pairing mode after you hold the case function button for about three seconds.
Can I use Ear (open) on an older phone?
Nothing lists iOS 13 or later and Android 5.0 or later as the general compatibility floors. Fast Pair has its own stricter requirements, so an Android phone below those Fast Pair requirements may still be able to pair manually if it meets the general Android floor.
What should I install for firmware updates or custom controls?
Install Nothing X after Bluetooth pairing. Nothing lists equaliser settings, customisable controls, firmware updates, Find My Earbuds, Low Lag Mode and Dual Connection among its additional operations for non-Nothing phones.
