To pair Marshall Major V for the first time, turn the headphones off, then press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds. Release it when the LED changes to a slow blue pulse. Open Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or Android phone, turn Bluetooth on, and select MAJOR V.
The Marshall Bluetooth app is not required for ordinary Bluetooth audio. It is optional for setup, customization, and firmware updates. If you are adding a second phone while Major V is already on, double-press the Control knob until the LED pulses blue, then choose Major V in that phone’s Bluetooth list.
Before you start
Marshall Major V is a wireless over-ear headphone released in 2024. Marshall lists more than 100 hours of wireless playtime for the model. That is a manufacturer specification rather than an independent test, and playback time varies with volume, codec, wireless use, and other settings.

- Keep the phone within a few feet of the headphones during the first pairing.
- Disconnect any 3.5 mm cable from Major V before attempting Bluetooth pairing.
- If Major V is already connected to another nearby device, disconnect that device or turn its Bluetooth off temporarily.
The control used for pairing is the headphone’s Control knob. The M-button is used with the knob only for a factory reset, not for normal pairing.

Pair Major V with an iPhone for the first time
- Turn Major V off. If the headphones are on, switch them off before entering first-time pairing mode.
- Enter pairing mode. Press and hold the Control knob for approximately two seconds. Release it when the LED changes to a slow blue pulse. Marshall’s manual describes this state as “Push and hold the Control knob until the LED turns to a slow blue pulse.”
- Open Bluetooth settings on the iPhone. Go to Settings > Bluetooth, then turn Bluetooth on if it is off. Stay on this screen while the phone scans.
- Choose the exact device name. Under the list of available devices, tap MAJOR V. The name is normally shown in uppercase; do not select an old entry such as MAJOR V [LE] if you are trying to make a fresh connection.
- Wait for the connection. Major V should move to the iPhone’s connected or My Devices list. Start audio playback to confirm that sound is routed to the headphones.
You do not need to install the Marshall Bluetooth app for these steps. Install it afterward only if you want the app’s setup, customization, or firmware-update functions.
Pair Major V with an Android phone for the first time
- Power the headphones off.
- Hold the Control knob for about two seconds. Release it when the LED shows a slow blue pulse.
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth controls. On many Android phones the path is Settings > Connected devices > Pair new device; manufacturers may label the menu differently. You can also open the Bluetooth panel from Quick Settings, then enter the full Bluetooth settings page if the phone does not show a device list there.
- Enable Bluetooth and scan. Wait for available devices to appear.
- Tap MAJOR V. Select the entry named MAJOR V, then accept a pairing prompt if Android displays one. No passcode should normally be needed for this procedure.
- Verify audio output. Play a short track or notification sound and check the phone’s media-output selector if audio remains on the handset speaker.
The app remains optional on Android as well. Basic Bluetooth audio works through the phone’s own Bluetooth settings.
What the LED states mean during pairing
| Situation | Control action | LED indication | What to do on the phone |
|---|---|---|---|
| First phone or a fresh setup | With Major V off, press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds | Slow blue pulse | Open Bluetooth settings and select MAJOR V |
| Additional phone | With Major V already on, double-press the Control knob | Blue pulse | Open the second phone’s Bluetooth list and select Major V |
| Factory reset | Hold the Control knob and M-button together for 10 seconds | Purple LED when it is time to release | Pair the headphones again because saved settings and pairings are erased |
The blue-pulse descriptions identify pairing mode; they do not mean the phone has connected yet. The connection is complete only after the phone lists Major V as connected.
Connect a second phone
Major V can maintain connections with two devices at a time and remembers up to 10 previously paired devices. This is useful if you alternate between, for example, a personal phone and a work phone.
- Leave Major V switched on.
- Double-press the Control knob. The LED should pulse blue.
- On the second phone, open Bluetooth settings and select Major V when it appears.
- Wait for the second phone to show the headphones as connected.
When several remembered devices are nearby, Major V attempts to reconnect to the last connected device. If it reconnects to the wrong phone, temporarily turn Bluetooth off on that phone or disconnect Major V from its Bluetooth menu, then connect from the phone you want to use.
First phone versus additional phone
| Task | Headphone state | Control-knob action | Device name to select |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial pairing | Off | Press and hold for about two seconds | MAJOR V |
| Add another phone | On | Double-press | Major V on the second phone |
If a second phone cannot see the headphones, make sure the first phone has not already taken the available connection and repeat the double-press with Major V still on.

Bluetooth pairing versus the 3.5 mm wired connection
| Option | How it starts | What the phone must do | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Put Major V into blue-pulse pairing mode, then select it in Bluetooth settings | Bluetooth enabled; choose MAJOR V | Wireless listening and connections to up to two devices |
| Included 3.5 mm connection | Plug a compatible 3.5 mm audio cable into the headphones and source | Use the phone’s wired audio output or an appropriate adapter | Listening when Bluetooth is unavailable or when you prefer a cable |
A connected 3.5 mm cable can prevent a Bluetooth troubleshooting attempt from behaving as expected. Unplug it before entering pairing mode. The wired option does not create a Bluetooth pairing record and does not replace the Bluetooth steps above.

No. The app is not required to pair Major V or to play ordinary Bluetooth audio from an iPhone or Android phone.
Use the app if you want its setup and customization features or if you want to apply a firmware update. The basic sequence remains the same: put the headphones into pairing mode, select Major V in the phone’s Bluetooth settings, and then open the app after the Bluetooth connection is established if the app asks you to add the headphones.
If you are troubleshooting a connection, start with the phone’s Bluetooth menu rather than assuming the app is required. The app cannot make a headphone visible when Major V is not in its documented blue-pulse pairing mode.
Why Major V does not appear in Bluetooth
Work through these checks in order. Each one addresses a condition that can hide the device from the available-device list.
1. Confirm the correct pairing mode
Turn Major V off completely. Press and hold the Control knob for about two seconds and release it only after the LED changes to a slow blue pulse. If you simply turn the headphones on, they may try to reconnect to a remembered device instead of advertising for a new pairing.

2. Remove the 3.5 mm cable
Disconnect any cable from the headphones. Then repeat the off-and-hold procedure. A cable left attached is a common reason a user continues to see no usable Bluetooth result.
3. Check other nearby devices
Major V may already be connected to another phone, tablet, or computer. Turn Bluetooth off on those devices for a moment, or disconnect Major V from their Bluetooth menus. Return to the phone you want to pair and scan again.
4. Scan for the exact name
Look for MAJOR V, not a generic “Marshall” label. If the phone shows an old saved entry, do not assume that entry represents the current pairing state; remove it before trying again.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute5. Refresh the phone’s Bluetooth scan
Leave the Bluetooth settings page, turn Bluetooth off and back on, then return to the available-device list. Keep Major V in the slow-blue-pulse state while the phone scans. If the phone has a separate “Pair new device” command, use it rather than relying only on the Quick Settings tile.
When Major V appears but will not connect
Forget an old record
On the phone, open the saved Bluetooth devices list, select the old MAJOR V or MAJOR V [LE] record, and choose Forget, Remove, or the equivalent label. Then place the headphones back into pairing mode and select MAJOR V from the newly scanned list.
If you use the Marshall Bluetooth app, remove the saved Major V entry there as well before retrying. Leaving an obsolete record in either place can cause the phone or app to attempt an invalid old connection.

Check that only the intended device is competing
Disconnect Major V from any other nearby Bluetooth source. Because the headphones remember up to 10 devices and try to reconnect to the last connected one when it is in range, an old phone can win the connection before your current phone completes pairing.

Restart the sequence rather than repeatedly tapping the name
Turn Major V off, wait briefly, and hold the Control knob until the slow blue pulse returns. Then start a fresh scan on the phone. Repeating a tap on a stale entry without returning the headphones to pairing mode does not create a new pairing attempt.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Factory-reset Major V when normal pairing fails
A factory reset is the final recovery step, not the first one. It deletes user settings and means every phone must be paired again.
- On each phone, forget or remove the saved MAJOR V and MAJOR V [LE] Bluetooth entries.
- If the Marshall Bluetooth app is installed, remove the saved headphones entry there too.
- With the headphones available, press and hold the Control knob and the M-button together for 10 seconds.
- Release both controls when the LED turns purple. That purple indication marks the documented reset point.
- After the reset, turn the headphones off and perform the normal first-pairing procedure: hold the Control knob for about two seconds until the LED slowly pulses blue, then select MAJOR V on the phone.
Do not use the factory reset merely to switch between two remembered phones. The double-press method is intended for adding an additional device and preserves the remembered-device list.
Common pairing mistakes and their fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Nothing named Major V appears | The headphones are on but not in pairing mode | Turn them off, hold the Control knob for about two seconds, and wait for the slow blue pulse |
| An old entry is listed but connection fails | Stale MAJOR V or MAJOR V [LE] record | Forget or remove the entry, then pair again from a fresh scan |
| The second phone cannot find Major V | The first phone has retained the connection | Double-press the Control knob while Major V is on and disconnect the first phone temporarily |
| The app cannot set up the headphones | Bluetooth pairing has not completed or an old app record remains | Pair in the phone’s Bluetooth settings first; remove the old app entry and retry |
| Pairing still fails after all checks | Corrupted saved settings or pairing records | Forget the records and perform the 10-second Control-knob-plus-M-button reset; release at the purple LED |
| Phone audio continues through its speaker | The phone connected to Major V but did not select it as the media output | Use the phone’s audio-output or media panel and choose Major V |
What happens after pairing
Once paired, Major V is stored in the phone’s Bluetooth device list. On later use, turn the headphones on and keep the phone’s Bluetooth enabled; the headphones try to reconnect when the remembered phone is in range. If two remembered phones are nearby, the last connected device has priority, so disconnecting that device may be necessary before another phone can take over.

For a new phone, use the additional-device process instead of deleting every existing record: with Major V on, double-press the Control knob and select Major V on that phone. The headphones support two simultaneous connections and retain up to 10 previously paired devices.
