To pair LDAC headphones with a USB-C Bluetooth transmitter, first confirm that both devices explicitly support LDAC and that your phone, computer, or gaming device can send USB audio to the transmitter. Put the headphones and transmitter into pairing mode using their own model-specific instructions, then check the active codec after they connect. A successful Bluetooth connection does not by itself mean LDAC is in use.

What you need before pairing

LDAC is a Bluetooth audio codec. For LDAC playback, the transmitter and headphones both need to support it; having a USB-C connector or a particular Bluetooth version is not evidence that a product supports LDAC. Check the specifications and manuals for the exact models. Sony likewise says that both the headphones and playback device must support LDAC for LDAC playback (Sony’s compatibility guidance).

Think of the setup as two separate connections. First, the host sends audio to the transmitter over USB. Then the transmitter sends it to the headphones over Bluetooth, using a codec the two Bluetooth devices support. LDAC applies to that second connection. A USB-C plug can fit without proving that the host sends audio to the transmitter, and a Bluetooth connection can succeed without using LDAC. Checking each link independently makes setup and troubleshooting clearer.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is a third part of the chain: the host device. The transmitter must receive audio over USB from the phone, computer, or game system. Confirm that the host supports USB audio with that transmitter, and check whether you need to select it as the audio output after plugging it in. The xDuoo Uplink product page describes use with phones, computers, and game systems, but broad categories do not confirm compatibility with every particular device. USB-C describes the connector; it does not guarantee that every host and transmitter combination will exchange audio.

  • Host: compatibility with the transmitter’s USB audio input, plus access to its audio-output selection if needed.

Read both manuals before starting. Pairing controls, indicator lights, and the length of a pairing window differ by model. Sony’s pairing directions, for example, vary by headphone type: some headband models use a pairing button, while true wireless models may use the case or earbud controls. Do not assume a button sequence or hold time from another model will apply to yours (Sony’s pairing instructions).

It is also worth checking whether the transmitter’s advertised LDAC support applies to the operating mode you intend to use. A product can list LDAC yet restrict it in a particular mode. The AYIN MR286, for example, does not support LDAC while connected to two receiving devices. If you need to connect more than one receiver, verify that the needed codec remains available in that mode before buying or troubleshooting.

Pair the headphones and transmitter

  1. Check the manuals and compatibility. Confirm LDAC is listed for both the headphones and transmitter, and confirm your host supports USB audio to the transmitter. Note any operating-mode restrictions in the transmitter manual. Also identify how each device signals pairing and connection so you can interpret its own indicator rather than relying on a generic LED pattern.
  2. Prevent an unwanted reconnection. If the headphones keep connecting to a nearby phone, tablet, or computer instead, disconnect them from that source or turn off its Bluetooth temporarily. This is a troubleshooting measure, not a requirement for every setup. It can help ensure the transmitter is the device the headphones are trying to find.
  3. Put the headphones into pairing mode. Follow the instructions for the exact headphone model. Wait for its pairing indication; do not rely on a generic button timing. Being powered on is not necessarily the same as being discoverable for a new pairing, so use the manual’s specific pairing-mode procedure.
  4. Connect the transmitter to the host. Insert it into the host’s USB-C port. If the transmitter manual or host requires it, select the transmitter as the audio output. A connected USB device may not be the active output automatically. If you do not hear audio later, check this host-to-transmitter link separately from Bluetooth pairing.
  5. Put the transmitter into pairing mode. Use the control and indicator sequence in its manual. Keep the headphones near the transmitter while it searches. The transmitter may initiate the search while the headphones are discoverable, or the manual may describe a different sequence; follow the exact model’s directions.
  6. Wait for the connection to complete. Confirm the transmitter indicates a connection according to its manual. If the devices do not find each other, re-enter pairing mode on both rather than assuming that one device’s pairing mode will remain active indefinitely. If the headphones connect to another source in the meantime, disconnect that source and try again.
  7. Verify LDAC separately. Check the headphone app, device settings, or transmitter status method to see which codec is active. If the connection uses another codec, use the checks below; pairing again alone may not change codec selection.

The sequence for the transmitter is not universal. As one model-specific example, the AYIN MR286 manual says to double-click its function button to start pairing search, then put the receiving headphones into pairing mode and bring them close. That double-click instruction applies to the MR286, not to USB-C transmitters generally (AYIN MR286 manual). Use its manual for the appropriate control and status behavior; do not transfer the example to another transmitter.

If a first attempt fails, repeat the two pairing steps deliberately: make the headphones discoverable according to their manual, then start the transmitter’s pairing search according to its manual. Keep the devices nearby during the search and check whether another paired source is automatically taking the headphones. These are targeted checks for discoverability and competing connections, not reasons to reset settings or guess at undocumented button combinations.

Check that LDAC is actually active

Bluetooth pairing establishes a connection; codec negotiation and settings determine the audio codec used over that connection. If both products support LDAC, it still may not be active because a setting has not been enabled or the transmitter is operating in a mode that excludes it. Check the active codec after connecting, rather than inferring it from the product names, USB-C connection, or Bluetooth status alone.

There are three useful questions to answer: does the exact transmitter support LDAC, do the exact headphones support LDAC, and does the current connection report LDAC? The first two are specification checks; the third is a live-status check. One cannot substitute for another. A pairing confirmation only establishes that the devices connected, while a codec label in the appropriate app or setting provides evidence about the codec currently being used.

Check the headphone or host settings

Some headphones expose codec information in their companion app. Sony says that supported headphones can show the codec in Sound Connect; its guidance also recommends selecting Prioritize Sound Quality where applicable. The menu and available options depend on the headphone and connected device. Other products may expose codec status through a different app or host setting (Sony’s codec-check guidance).

Do not assume every headphone app has the same menu or that every model offers the same preference. Look for the codec status and sound-quality settings described in the manual for your own headphones. If the setting is not visible while connected, check the maker’s instructions for when it can be changed. Acoustune’s ATX001 FAQ, for instance, says a compatible codec may need to be enabled in the headphone or device’s dedicated app, but that the app cannot be used while the device is connected to the ATX001. For that setup, check the required app setting before connecting the transmitter.

Check transmitter mode restrictions

Review the transmitter manual for modes that change codec availability. For example, AYIN states that its MR286 does not support LDAC when two receiving devices are connected. If you are using that dual-connection mode, disconnect one receiver and check the codec again. Do not assume that a transmitter’s single-device codec specification applies unchanged to every operating mode.

This is an important distinction when comparing products: a codec list describes supported capabilities, but the manual may qualify when those capabilities are available. If your use case requires two receivers, or another special operating mode, compare that mode specifically rather than relying on the general LDAC listing.

Reconnect after changing quality settings

If you change a codec or sound-quality preference and LDAC does not appear immediately, disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth link as the headphone maker recommends. Sony’s LDAC troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting the Bluetooth connection after changing the quality setting. Then check the active codec again (Sony’s LDAC troubleshooting steps).

AYIN MR286 The manufacturer manual lists LDAC and explains that the transmitter and receiver need compatible codec support. LDAC is not supported when two receiving devices are connected to this model. Check the manual’s pairing and mode instructions for the setup you intend to use. AYIN MR286 manual

These are examples, not a ranking. The available product information does not establish a universal best choice, a current price comparison, or compatibility with every host. Choose based on the requirements that matter for your setup: the codec on both ends, the host’s USB audio support, the mode you plan to use, and the clarity of the pairing and status instructions.

The useful comparison is not just which codecs appear in a specification list. Check explicit LDAC support on both ends, USB audio compatibility with your host, the pairing controls and status indicators, codec availability in the mode you plan to use, and how you can verify the active codec. For headphones, also check their pairing procedure and whether codec selection is managed in an app.

Troubleshoot common pairing and playback problems

The headphones do not appear in the transmitter’s search

  • Put the headphones back into pairing mode using their manual, then restart the transmitter’s pairing search using its own instructions.
  • Move the headphones close to the transmitter while the search is active.
  • Disconnect the headphones from another source if it is automatically reconnecting and preventing the intended pairing.
  • Check the model-specific indicator or status description. A light or sound can mean different things on different devices, so do not infer a failed or successful connection from a generic pattern.

If the first search window has passed, start it again on both devices instead of continuing to wait on an assumed persistent pairing mode. Manufacturer controls and pairing sequences vary, so consult the exact headphone and transmitter manuals before trying another button combination.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The headphones connect, but LDAC is not shown

  • Reconfirm that LDAC is explicitly supported by both the exact headphone model and transmitter. Support on one side is not enough.
  • Check the headphones’ app or settings for a codec or sound-quality option. For Acoustune ATX001, its FAQ says the compatible codec may need to be enabled in the dedicated app, and the app cannot be used while connected to the transmitter.
  • Check whether the transmitter is in a restricted operating mode. On AYIN MR286, using two receiving devices disables LDAC.
  • After changing a quality setting, disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth link, then inspect the codec again. Sony recommends restarting the Bluetooth connection when LDAC does not become active after a setting change.

If the codec still is not shown, separate capability from status: confirm the product specifications for both devices, then use the documented app, host setting, or transmitter method to inspect the current connection. A successful pairing is not proof of LDAC, and a codec capability in a product listing is not proof that the current mode is using it.

Audio stutters or cuts out

Sony notes that LDAC uses a larger transmission volume and recommends prioritizing a stable connection if interruptions occur. A stability-oriented setting may change the codec or quality in use, so check the active codec after adjusting it rather than assuming LDAC remains active (Sony’s LDAC troubleshooting guidance).

This creates a practical trade-off: if uninterrupted playback matters more than maintaining a particular codec setting, follow the maker’s stability recommendation and then verify what codec the connection uses. If you specifically want LDAC, check again after any stability adjustment instead of treating sound quality preference and connection stability as interchangeable settings.

The host recognizes the transmitter but sends no audio

  • Open the host’s audio-output controls and select the transmitter if it is not already selected.
  • Check that the host supports USB audio with that transmitter and that the connector is fully seated.
  • Consult the transmitter instructions for any host-specific setup requirement. A USB-C port alone does not establish USB audio compatibility.

This is a host-to-transmitter problem, distinct from Bluetooth pairing. If the transmitter and headphones show a Bluetooth connection but there is no sound, first confirm that the host is sending audio to the transmitter. Conversely, if the host recognizes the transmitter but the headphones do not connect, return to the Bluetooth pairing steps. Treating these as separate links prevents a host output issue from being mistaken for a codec issue.

Before choosing a transmitter

If you have not bought a transmitter yet, use this short compatibility checklist rather than relying on a generic claim such as “Bluetooth 5” or “USB-C audio.” Those labels do not establish that LDAC will work in your intended setup. An LDAC-capable USB-C Bluetooth transmitter is task-enabling only if it also accepts USB audio from your host and can connect to your particular headphones in the mode you need.

  • Codec on both ends: the exact transmitter and headphones list LDAC.
  • USB audio from your host: the phone, computer, or game system supports audio output to the transmitter.
  • Required mode: LDAC remains available in the operating mode you need, including any dual-device or multipoint-style connection.
  • Practical verification: the manual or app explains how to identify the active codec or connection status.
  • Usable pairing process: the controls and indicators are documented for both transmitter and headphones.

When comparing two transmitters, use the same checklist for each rather than treating a codec list as the whole decision. Confirm the exact model’s LDAC claim; check host support for USB audio; read how pairing is started and how connection status is indicated; then look for restrictions in the mode you plan to use. Finally, make sure there is a practical way to verify the active codec. Apply the corresponding checks to the headphone: LDAC support, pairing-mode steps, codec settings or app support, and compatibility with the intended transmitter.

There is no price or performance comparison established by the available product information, so avoid assuming that a particular model is the least expensive, fastest, or best-sounding choice. Product claims and availability can change. Check the current manufacturer’s page and manual for the exact version you are considering, especially if your setup depends on a special host or simultaneous receiver mode.

For an existing setup, the shortest reliable diagnosis is to confirm the three links independently: host to transmitter over USB audio, transmitter to headphones over Bluetooth, and LDAC as the active Bluetooth codec. A failure at one link can look like a problem at another, so check each rather than treating “paired” as proof that the entire audio path is working.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do both my headphones and USB-C transmitter need to support LDAC?

Yes. LDAC playback requires support at both ends of the Bluetooth connection. Check the specifications or manuals for the exact headphone and transmitter models; USB-C and a Bluetooth version number alone do not establish LDAC support.

If the headphones pair successfully, does that mean LDAC is active?

No. Pairing confirms a Bluetooth connection, not which codec is being used. Check the codec in the headphone app, host settings, or another status method documented for your devices.

How do I put my headphones or transmitter into pairing mode?

Use the model-specific instructions for each device. Controls vary: some headband headphones use a pairing button, while true wireless models may use a case or earbud controls. Transmitter button sequences also vary; for example, the AYIN MR286 manual specifies a double-click of its function button, but that is not a universal instruction.

Why does my USB-C transmitter connect but produce no audio?

Check that the host supports USB audio with that transmitter and that the transmitter is selected as the host’s audio output if required. A USB-C connector by itself does not guarantee USB audio compatibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why is LDAC missing even though both devices list it?

Check whether LDAC must be enabled in the headphone or device app, whether the transmitter is in a mode that restricts LDAC, and whether the active codec is being checked in the right place. AYIN MR286, for example, disables LDAC when two receivers are connected. After changing a quality setting, reconnect Bluetooth and check again.

What should I do if LDAC audio stutters?

Sony recommends prioritizing a stable connection if interruptions occur, noting that LDAC uses a larger transmission volume. A stability-oriented setting may change the codec or quality in use, so check the active codec again afterward.

The Bottom Line

For LDAC playback, verify three things separately: your host sends USB audio to the transmitter, both the transmitter and headphones support LDAC, and the connected link actually reports LDAC as active. Follow each model’s pairing instructions, check for mode restrictions, and recheck the codec after changing settings or prioritizing stability.
