For first-time setup, start the JBL Live Beam 4 earbuds’ illustrated setup sequence and complete the two-second hold shown in JBL’s Quick Start Guide. Turn on Bluetooth discovery on your phone, laptop, or tablet. Android 6 or later may show a Fast Pair prompt, Windows 10/11 or newer may show a Swift Pair prompt, and every other supported host can use its regular Bluetooth device list: select JBL Live Beam 4.

What you need before pairing

Keep the earbuds and the host device close together, and make sure the earbuds have enough charge to complete setup. On the phone, laptop, or tablet, open the device’s Bluetooth controls and make the host discoverable. The exact menu names vary by operating system; JBL’s model-specific guide does not enumerate every iOS, macOS, ChromeOS, or tablet menu sequence.

Pairing is a Bluetooth connection between the earbuds and the host. It is separate from the JBL Headphones app, so you do not need to install an app, buy an accessory, or sign up for a service simply to establish the first connection. The important details are the first-use sequence, the two-second hold shown in the guide, and the exact Bluetooth name that appears on the host.

  • Android Fast Pair is documented for Android phones running version 6 or later.

  • Multipoint can maintain connections with up to two devices.

Choose the right pairing route

Host and route Supported software noted by JBL What appears on screen Your action
Android Fast Pair Android 6 or later An Android connection prompt for JBL Live Beam 4 Accept the prompt and follow the on-screen connection step
Windows Swift Pair Windows 10/11 or newer “New JBL Live Beam 4 found” Select Connect
Other Bluetooth hosts The guide does not list operating-system versions for this general route JBL Live Beam 4 in the normal Bluetooth device list Choose JBL Live Beam 4 to connect

Use an assisted prompt when it appears. If it does not, the ordinary Bluetooth list is the supported fallback. Pairing does not require an accessory or the JBL Headphones app.

#1 Best Overall
JBL Live Beam 3 - True Wireless Noise-Cancelling Stick-Closed Earbuds, 48Hrs Total Playback, Wireless Charging, 6 Mics for Perfect Calls, Multi-Point Connection, IP55 Waterproof and dustproof (Black)
  • Hi-Res Audio Wireless with JBL signature sound
  • The JBL Live Beam 3's 10mm dynamic drivers are powered by JBL Signature Sound. Each driver is perfectly tuned to deliver deep bass, balanced mid-range, and refined high frequencies—all at any volume level. JBL Spatial Sound makes you feel like you're at a concert as the sound comes from virtually everywhere around you.
  • Convenient Smart Charging Case for app-free control
  • You can customize every aspect of your JBL Live Beam 3 earbuds with the 1.45-inch touchscreen display on your Smart Charging Case. The display gives you full control of your sound on any devices - laptop, TV, smartphones, or tablets -, without needing to access the JBL App on your smartphone.
  • True adaptive noise cancelling with custom control

The practical difference between the routes is how much of the selection is presented for you. Fast Pair and Swift Pair display a product-specific prompt, while the general route asks you to open Bluetooth and choose the named earbuds yourself. All three routes end with the same model name and the same Bluetooth connection.

First-time setup: the common sequence

  1. Start the illustrated FIRST TIME USE procedure in the JBL Live Beam 4 Quick Start Guide.
  2. Complete the two-second hold shown in that illustration. The extracted guide does not identify the physical control in enough detail to name it safely, so follow the control depiction in your copy of the guide rather than guessing.
  3. On the host device, turn on Bluetooth discovery.
  4. Wait for the connection-selection panel or the host’s Bluetooth prompt.
  5. Use the route for your host: accept Android Fast Pair, choose Connect in Windows Swift Pair, or select JBL Live Beam 4 from the regular Bluetooth list.
  6. Wait for the host to report that the earbuds are connected before playing audio.

The two-second hold belongs to JBL’s illustrated first-use sequence. Because the guide’s extracted text does not separately describe a manual re-pair or reset procedure, do not substitute an unverified button combination when setting up a second host.

If you are following the guide on a different screen size or language, focus on the sequence rather than trying to match a particular settings label. The reliable checkpoints are that the earbuds have entered the illustrated connection stage, Bluetooth discovery is enabled on the host, and the host eventually shows the exact Live Beam 4 name.

Pair with an Android phone using Fast Pair

When Fast Pair applies

JBL identifies the Fast Pair path for Android phones running version 6 or later. The guide’s illustration shows JBL Live Beam 4 appearing in the Android experience associated with the user’s account and presents a connection prompt.

Steps

  1. Run the earbuds’ first-time setup sequence, including the illustrated two-second hold.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth discovery on the Android phone.
  3. When the JBL Live Beam 4 Fast Pair prompt appears, review the device name.
  4. Accept the prompt to connect.
  5. Confirm that the phone lists the earbuds as connected before starting playback.

If the assisted prompt does not appear, use the phone’s regular Bluetooth device list and select JBL Live Beam 4. That fallback is the same general device-list method documented for other hosts.

Fast Pair is therefore a convenience route, not a separate version of the earbuds. A missing prompt does not mean the earbuds cannot connect; it means you should use the ordinary list instead. Keep the selection exact, because the guide identifies that product name as the entry to choose.

Pair with a Windows laptop using Swift Pair

What Windows should show

For Windows 10/11 or newer, JBL’s guide illustrates a Microsoft Swift Pair notification reading “New JBL Live Beam 4 found”. The guide’s exact instruction is: “To pair your headphones, select Connect.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Steps

  1. Complete the Live Beam 4 first-use illustration and its two-second hold.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth discovery on the Windows laptop.
  3. Wait for the Swift Pair notification that says “New JBL Live Beam 4 found.”
  4. Select Connect.
  5. After Windows finishes, verify that JBL Live Beam 4 is the active connected audio device.

Swift Pair is an assisted notification, not a requirement for Bluetooth pairing. If it does not appear, open the laptop’s ordinary Bluetooth device list and choose JBL Live Beam 4, as the guide’s “Others” panel instructs.

The Windows path has two separate confirmation points: first, the notification identifies the earbuds; second, selecting Connect authorizes the pairing. If the notification closes, the normal Bluetooth list remains the documented alternative rather than a reason to repeat an unverified control sequence on the earbuds.

Pair with an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Chromebook, or another tablet

JBL’s model-specific guide does not provide exact menu labels for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, ChromeOS, or every tablet interface. Rather than assuming a menu path that may not match your software version, use the host’s standard Bluetooth device list.

  1. Complete the Live Beam 4 first-use sequence and the illustrated two-second hold.
  2. Open the host’s Bluetooth settings and enable discovery.
  3. Look for the exact product name JBL Live Beam 4.
  4. Select that name to connect.
  5. Check the host’s connected-device status before playing sound.

The device-list instruction is intentionally platform-neutral. It covers a phone, laptop, or tablet without claiming a particular settings label for an operating system that JBL’s guide does not spell out.

On these hosts, the key decision is not a special JBL menu. It is selecting the correct entry from the standard Bluetooth list after the earbuds are in the first-use connection stage. If the host offers several nearby Bluetooth devices, use the complete name JBL Live Beam 4 shown in JBL’s instructions.

Connect a phone and laptop with multipoint

JBL lists multipoint support, and the manual illustration specifies a maximum of two devices. This is the useful arrangement when you want the earbuds paired with a phone and a laptop at the same time. JBL’s product information describes switching connections among a phone, tablet, and laptop.

A practical two-device order

  1. Pair the earbuds with the first device using Fast Pair, Swift Pair, or the normal Bluetooth list.
  2. Pair them with the second device using its corresponding route.
  3. Keep the total active multipoint set to two devices, which is the maximum specified in the manual.
  4. When moving between the phone and laptop, use the host’s connection controls and confirm which device reports the earbuds as connected.

Multipoint changes how already-paired devices share the earbuds; it does not change the product name you select during setup.

The same two-device limit applies whether the pair is a phone and laptop, phone and tablet, or another combination of two supported hosts. JBL’s product information mentions switching among those device types, but it does not turn multipoint into a three-device feature. Keep the intended two hosts in view when troubleshooting an unexpected connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do you need the JBL Headphones app?

No. The basic Bluetooth flow is separate from the app, so you can pair the earbuds by accepting the assisted prompt or selecting JBL Live Beam 4 in the host’s device list.

The Quick Start Guide calls the JBL Headphones app free and presents it as an optional way to add control and personalization. JBL’s product information describes app functions that include adjusting noise cancellation and ambient sound, checking fit, finding the earbuds, and customizing gestures. Install it only if you want those controls; it is not a prerequisite for the initial connection.

In other words, app installation should not be used as a substitute for putting the earbuds into the illustrated first-use state. Establish the Bluetooth connection first through the host’s prompt or device list. The app can then be considered for personalization and monitoring features.

Bluetooth and battery specifications relevant to the model

The following are JBL/HARMAN manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The English specification sheet carries a 2026 copyright notice.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Specification Manufacturer value How to interpret it for pairing
Bluetooth version Bluetooth 6.0 The wireless standard listed for the Live Beam 4; it does not change the device name shown during pairing.
Audio profile A2DP V1.4 Supports the Bluetooth audio profile used for music playback.
Remote-control profile AVRCP V1.6.3 Supports compatible playback-control functions after connection.
Hands-free profile HFP V1.8 Supports compatible hands-free calling functions after connection.
Music time, Bluetooth on and ANC off Up to 12 hours A stated maximum from JBL, not a measured result in this guide.
Music time, Bluetooth and ANC on Up to 10 hours A stated maximum from JBL, with active noise cancellation enabled.
Music time, Bluetooth and True Adaptive ANC on Up to 8 hours A stated maximum from JBL with True Adaptive ANC enabled.

These specifications explain what can happen after pairing: A2DP is the listed music profile, AVRCP is the listed remote-control profile, and HFP is the listed hands-free profile. They do not add another pairing method, alter the two-second first-use step, or change the name that appears in Bluetooth settings.

What to do when pairing does not proceed

No Fast Pair or Swift Pair notification appears

Assisted prompts are optional routes, not the only way to connect. Confirm that the host’s Bluetooth discovery is on, then open its ordinary Bluetooth device list and select JBL Live Beam 4. Android Fast Pair is documented for Android 6 or later, while the Swift Pair illustration is documented for Windows 10/11 or newer.

JBL Live Beam 4 is not in the device list

Return to the first-use sequence in JBL’s Quick Start Guide and make sure the illustrated two-second hold has been completed. Keep the host’s Bluetooth discovery enabled while waiting for the selection panel. The guide’s extracted text does not expose a separate model-specific manual re-pair or reset sequence, so avoid guessing one; use JBL’s illustrated instructions for the physical control.

You are unsure which entry to select

Select the exact name JBL Live Beam 4. The guide’s “Others” panel explicitly says, “Choose "JBL Live Beam 4" to connect.” Do not substitute a similarly named entry.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The earbuds were paired with two devices

That is within the specified multipoint limit. JBL documents multipoint for up to two devices and describes switching connections among a phone, tablet, and laptop. Use the host’s connection controls to choose the device you want to use, and check its connected status before playback.

You are looking for an app setting instead of Bluetooth pairing

Start with the host’s Bluetooth controls. The JBL Headphones app adds personalization and monitoring features, but the cited basic pairing instructions do not make the app mandatory.

You do not know whether pairing finished

Use the host’s status as the checkpoint: Android should show the accepted connection, Windows should complete the Swift Pair connection after you select Connect, and other hosts should show JBL Live Beam 4 as connected in their Bluetooth list. Only then begin playback or a call.

You want to pair a third device

The manual specifies a maximum of two devices for multipoint. Remove one device from the active two-device arrangement before expecting the earbuds to share connections with another host. The product information supports phone, tablet, and laptop switching, but does not specify a three-device multipoint mode.

What the official instructions do and do not specify

The Quick Start Guide clearly identifies the first-use two-second hold, Android Fast Pair, Windows Swift Pair, the general device-list choice, and the exact product name. It does not provide a complete menu-by-menu procedure for every phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop operating system. It also does not expose enough extracted detail to identify the physical control used for the two-second hold or to prescribe a separate manual reset sequence in prose. Following the illustrated guide and then using the host’s standard Bluetooth list avoids inventing steps that may not match your device.
